HOW MANY OF YOU THINK THAT SHE'S GONE WAY TOO FAR, OR IS THERE MORE TO COME http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif GET A GRIP TONI. ALSO WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THAT SNOOZER... GET A GRIP TONI. [/QUOTE] Searching, I didn't see the GRAMMYS. But I did see that WHAMMY of dress that TONI had on. Toni doesn't need to get a grip, BOBBY http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif EARL needs to get a grip... of TONI. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif Personally, I felt TONI was a tad bit overdressed for the occasion. She could have shedded a few layers or two in my opinion http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif . After I saw that dress, I didn't know if I was gonna be able to BREATHE AGAIN. To better provide you with an understanding of how I felt about the dress, let me leave you with a quote from a great man: In the words of Nino Brown, "Yo G Money, I don't know about you, but I'd be looking for the pimples on her boodie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif !" It looked like she was trying to one-up J-Lo.
|
Well I had no objections to Toni's dress. I mean I was gasping for air as I tried not to die of a heart attack! DAMN! She made jennifer look like she was dressed in a three piece suit.
I just wish that women would get off of her though. I mean she's reclaiming her body and saying f*ck everybody else, I'm gonna wear what I want. It's obvious her man doesn't mind. I watched the whole show and he was right there by her side. Ladies, if you were slobbering when you saw D'angelo's "Untitled" or one of those cheesy calenders with black actors in them, then you have no room to judge. I say to each it's own. I'd never strip down to my b-day suit and appear in a music video but in the same breath, I'm not gonna playa hate D'angelo for doing so either. In the immortal words of Nupes everywhere, "Don't hate the player, hate the game". And I'm out. Krimson and Kream, every woman's dream! ------------------ KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC. I was at a campus event yestersay. I came in right about the time Elton and Eminem were singing their duet (but that's another thread).
I can't see the picture. Does anyone have a working URL? |

Thanks Kitten!
Ok, what's the big deal? She is a beautiful woman with a beautiful body! I think she looks alright. I would have picked something different for her because that cut is not flattering for her shape, but it's all good. I thought J. Lo looked beautiful in her nose dive dress. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif That gown was stunning. The material, the cut, the color, the drape...it was all so pretty to me. I guess I'm just liberal when it comes to fashion. I see it as art, not just a way to cover-up. [This message has been edited by Poplife (edited February 22, 2001).] |
Spankee you took the words right out of my mouth! She is just trying to out-do J-Lo's dress from last year.
------------------ Sweet dreams are made of this... |
All that I can say is SCANDALOUS!!!!
Looks like a combination of Lil'Kim and Jennifer Lopez put together. Perhaps they have the same designers. But for some reason...Toni has a way of carrying herself that even as she wears the bare minimum, she still has a bit of class...but I'm not certain if it's class or confidence. I personally wouldn't have selected the dress, but I think that she wore her "gown" well. It seems as if the market appreciates this type of attire. Celebrities are applauded for their skimpy adornments. I was just looking at a TIME magazine article on the fads that Brittney Spears has created (although I think the trend predates her), and the influence it has on youth. Now, I don't think that Toni was thinking about the youngings when she made her outfit selection, but I posit that these outfits condone the current atmosphere of sexual freedom. Whether its by speech or media, popular culture seems to suggest that in light of the crises of STDs, teenage pregnancy, and crimes of passion, that it's okay to perpetuate "looseness." I'm sure that people will not agree with me, but the moment that we began to entertain celebrity gossip, politically-related sex scandals, and the proliferation of pornographic material, there seemed to be a decay in maintaining decorum, feminity/masculinity, and decency. Now, I know I've gone a bit off tangent from the Toni thing. But I think it would be interesting to ponder the relationship between sexual freedom and maintanance of the gender status quo. You know what never ceases to amaze me? Any type of criticism is seen as hating. Women are hating on Toni. Bullsh*t. I don't have a problem with the girl being proud of her body. Ain't nothin' wrong with that. I'm sure if I had the body I wanted, I would wear some sexy stuff, too. However, you don't have to be naked to be sexy. Let me explain it to yall men who think that we are jealous haters. We fight exploitation on the regular. I'm sure we can all count more half-naked women on TV than we can men. Why were we all on D'Angelo's tip?? Because that mess don't happen too often!!! And who knows when it might happen again! Anyway, I digress. We constantly complain about allowing men to exploit us. Then we have women like Toni, Lil' Kim, and the likes, who take us backward instead of forward. Because they take it upon themselves to dress this way, men in the industry think that it's ok to expect women to dress this way. It takes away from our being recognized for our skills and abilities. Just look at the responses of N4L and BE. She got a Grammy. Wasn't neither one of them thinking about her singing skills while she was up on that stage! LOL! I'm not hatin' on yall, but it's true!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif She was there to be recognized for her music and art and talent, and she completely took the focus off of that. That is the problem. We want to be taken seriously. We are not taken seriously when we are looked at like sex symbols ALL THE TIME. Not once in a while. All the time. There is an underlying issue here, please don't think we are jealous haters. We really aren't. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Now, on the other hand. I do commend women that have the confidence to wear stuff like that. So many of us have self-esteem issues and negative body images. But still, come on. Oh, and the game wouldn't exist if the players quit. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Just my .08 . . . |

I think that women should be able to wear what they want, but there is a time and place for everything. Maybe if she was on VH1's Fashion Awards Show, then I'd think, "that's serious". However, she was on the Grammy's. So I'm thinking, "what is going on"? In the past, she has worn some nice dresses and was still sexy. This time around she should have pulled off her sexiness in a different way instead of trying to out-do Jennifer. I'm just afraid of what people "aren't" going to wear next year. It wouldn't surprise me if someone put on body latex and called that an outfit.
This website give a pretty good view of her dress and some others. http://www.instyle.com/instyle/ |
Ok, F it, I am going to get butt naked here at work and post my pic on the web for da ladies. Go to www.BIGWILLIE.com to see me in the buff.
But really ladies come on. I think that some comments on her dress are fair game, but others come across as Katty. Ok newsflash, some women (Not that anyone here on GC is like this) are simply jealous of each other and try to tear each other down. I am sorry but I had to go there. You all know it's true. Any woman should be able to wear whatever she wants. As long as she and her man are cool with it. Plus the fact who can deny that that Toni can sing her azz off. Of course as men we are going to look at her and lust after her. We are men, it's what we do. If she came in here dressed in a suite, I would still want her. I would just be mad becuase it would take me longer to get her clothes off. MN |
hey toni, where are my good curtains???? seriously, i kinda thought the dress was a little over the top. but if i had a body like hers i would probably show a little skin too.

Well we can all have a body like Toni's if you have the money. You know she admitted to having work done and I know it just wasn't the boobs. But that's alright I'll just keep working on my body the right and natural way. I know people want to say if you have the body then show it. I disagree to an extent. I think I have a nice body but as I get older I don't feel comfortable being half naked unless I'm at the pool!! To me, you can show your body off just as well in a nice curve fitting dress as opposed to wearing a strap!! |
i'm sorry ya'll i couldn't make it past Bobby Earl's comments http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
*LMDSTAO* look at this way...someone had to be scandelous...the grammy's were so boring. I thought Madonna was the best part. I for one think that Ms. Braxton is a beautiful Black female. HOWEVER, that dress or whatever you want to call it did not do her justice. If she wanted to wear something that revealing that's cool with me but she could have found something more stylish. It hurts my feelings to even begin to imagine how much sister girl paid for that dress because IMHO it wasn't worth whatever amount she had to dish out. I loved J.Lo's lil' dress from last year because it was stylish. But Toni's little get up looked like something me baby cousin stitched together!
|
On a strictly sexist level, I loved the dress, but reality dictates that she was inappropriately dressed. First, she is talented enough and merits attention based on her singing/songwriting abilities. To dress as she dresses seems to be a cry for attention that she does not feel that she receives through her music. I think that she is selling herself short. And just because you have something nice (in her case, her body) does not mean that you have to flaunt it. I believe that she was trying to one up J-Lo. For the record, its a toss-up.

If Toni feels like giving me a life time(or about 55 minutes) of Devotion, I second that emotion, Nupe. All Toni wanted to do was get some pub out of the deal and she got it! Like any real http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif Nupe knows, it's all about the PUB. Ladies (not all), In the words of the Late Christopher Wallace"Playahaters... Lay on the ground... you've been robbed!" She can sing, regardless of what she is wearing. I think Toni should wear what Toni likes, not what is politically correct for women in order to prevent and fight sexism. Sexism will exist whether she is wearing a bed spread or dental floss to the Grammys. My policy is NO CLOTHES are the BEST CLOTHES! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif "I love me some Her" [This message has been edited by Bobby Earl (edited February 23, 2001).] |
I just want to know what Toni's parents, especially her father, thinks about her attire.
|
When I first looked at this thread, the pic of the dress didn't come up. So,I thought, "Jeez, are they just hating on poor lil' Toni?"
Then I saw the dress. She's a gorgeous woman who should show off her body -- but that dress was just ugly. I know there were a million other dresses, just as revealing, that she could've worn! Asia |
Make me say "Ughhhhhhhh!"
Why are yall hatin' on my girl Toni. The dress was fabulous. She looked like a million bucks. I say if you got it flaunt it! I don't think she was trying to show up J-Lo at all. People realize that these two women live in a world that, more or less, we cannot relate to. It is acceptable in the "high fashion" music industry to dress this way. In fact it is encouraged by the media, by the record companies and by the PUBLIC! Miss Toni's income is based on her public appeal, not just whether we like her music. Do you realize how many men are going to get that album now that they can fantasize with that visual in their heads? Mo'record sales equal mo' money, period. She did not sell her soul to the devil. Besides some of us women love to look beautiful. After all beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All I had to say was " YOU BETTA WORK.....WORK IT GURL!!!!" ------------------ "Don't hate me because I'm BEAUTIFUL" When the EAST is in the house...Oh my GOD!!.....DANGER!!! |
I must say, Toni braxton looked very cheap with my two bath towels and duck tape holding her together. Yes, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Toni is a beautiful woman-HOWEVER, that should not be just cause for you to walk out your house looking like that! SHe has just gone overboard! Ever since I heard she got two of her ribs removed to have a flatter stomach, I was too threw with her! ANd isn't her daddy a preacher??? She talkin' about "he wasn't man enough for me", well with that outfit she had on, she wasn't clothed enough for me!
|
Laugh out loud at most of you.
I have no comment on Toni's dress, one should wear whatever one wears. I just have to agree with IDEAL08 here, why do women always have to be hating because they don't like something on another woman????? It's like DILLLLIO, can't females have an opinion?? Why do we always have to be being "catty/katty"? Can't we not like something just because... without malice or jealousy. Dresses are ugly!!! Clothes can be revealing!!! Some women are fat!!! It's not hate, it's opinion. I'm about sick of men. CAN YOU SAY DOUBLE STANDARD??????? When they sit up and talk about another brother, no shot is heard around the world. Nobody accuses them of being "doggy". GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Okay, I'm off my soap box. Miss. Mocha |

LMAO@everybody!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif
Yes I too was crazy enough to try and open the link! I won't lie to any of you and say I would LOVE to look like Toni did in that dress, but I will say that I wouldn't have worn that dress! LOL. My gonads just aren't big enough. As we've noticed through out the years Toni has always been a woman who loved sexy clothes. When she was a 10 instead of a 4 she still pushed sexiness to it's limits with her hot pants and high splits. Now that she's a size 4 I guess she figures she has a whole lot less to let hang out so why not throw it everyone's faces?lol http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif She can do whatever she wants because she's the one who has to deal with it. NOT US. (Maybe next time she'll opt for two pasties and a leaf) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif LOL [This message has been edited by exquizit (edited February 28, 2001).] |
I agree with Gorgeousnikki on this one. There are models walking the runways of Paris, New York and Milan every day, wearing things the average person just couldn't wear. It's part of the business. The same thing with hair shows, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing those fantasy hairstyles. That's the whole point of high fashion. It isn't supposed to be run-of-the mill, it's supposed to be spectacular.
