New Member Class Names

OK if you "name" your New Member Classes in Greek letters, what is your current New Member Class' name?

ZTA at Winthrop is on Beta Beta and our next new member class is Beta Gamma.

ETA: My New Member class name is Alpha Omega. I rushed and was initiated in the Fall of 2001.

Rio_Kohitsuji 11-27-2003 08:55 PM

Well, if my calculations are correct (we have lost A LOT of history of time) my pledge class should be technically by Beta Tau.

Even though we're 32 years old we've not been able to pull many classes. Good ole Rio just loooooooooves banning the Greek system from have pledge classes...

HotDamnImAPhiMu 11-27-2003 08:59 PM

I think Phi Mu at VCU just initated Alpha Delta.

I was a Chi Class girl. :D

AEPhiSierra 11-27-2003 09:14 PM

Psi is our current new member class. I am a Sigma.

That1LoudChick 11-27-2003 09:14 PM

My class was the last one initiated and we're the Alpha Alphas! Next semester we're taking in the Alpha Betas! Woo!

astroAPhi 11-27-2003 09:50 PM

I'm part of the Omega class, and we just initiated Beta Zeta this semester. (Note, we followed Alpha Phi's house naming convention, so there was no Alpha Alpha, Alpha Beta, etc. We skipped directly from Omega to Beta Alpha.)

Buttonz 11-27-2003 09:58 PM

I am a AG This semster was the AD

GeekyPenguin 11-27-2003 10:20 PM

I'm a BX, this last semester was Beta Omega. This is, of course, ignoring our 102 years a local. :)

AlphaPhiBubbles 11-27-2003 11:47 PM

Woo I am also an Alpha Gamma! The newest class for my old chapter (new chapter doesn't use greek letters) is Alpha Eta

MTSUGURL 11-28-2003 01:12 AM

I'm a X girl. :)

DeltaSigStan 11-28-2003 01:41 AM

Damn, I guess I'm the oldest so far.

Delta Iota

The current class is Delta Mu.

kappaloo 11-28-2003 01:45 AM

Our latest class was class PI.
I think our NM chair bought Pie for their initation sleepover. :)

ETA: (and I'm Xi class)

Zetagymnast 11-28-2003 03:26 AM

My line was the Lambda Line and our line that will start in the Spring will be the Mu Line.

sugar and spice 11-28-2003 04:15 AM

After 106 years of existence, my chapter lost out on the class name thing -- I suppose the Zeta Theta Eta Pi pledge class thing got a little tiring. :D I wonder what we would be on if we had kept track for all these years, though.

I heard that at least the NPC sororities were trying to move away from pledge class names -- does anybody know anything about this?

I don't know if its a NPC thing or not, but we aren't supposed to. I'm a Nu and we were told to stop naming our classes after mine. Our alum however still keep track in their alum chapter. So if a newer sister wanted to find out what class she would be, if we did continue naming, they could find out from certain alum ;) or perhaps for example if they knew my class they could just go through the alphabet. which.....

sssssh don't tell but but our Fall '03 group would be the sigma class

AlphaPhiBubbles 11-28-2003 05:24 AM

Yea I think NPC is really discouraging it because it insinuates order and might cause hazing or something from older members? i'm not quite sure how it all works out...but i know my new chapter doesn't do it at all and my old chapter has been told to stop. I don't see what the big deal is cuz no matter what "fall 2003" is still younger than "fall 1985" which is the same as "Omega class" being older than "Alpha Zeta" and whatnot.....whatever.

TigerLilly 11-28-2003 11:45 AM

I was Iota class for PSP (my AXiD chapter doesn't name classes). We just inducted our Mu class.
We're still a young chapter -- 5 1/2 years old!

UDZETA 11-28-2003 11:51 AM

My new member class was Alpha Delta, and the newest is Alpha Eta.

oceanphi01 11-28-2003 11:53 AM

I was the Beta Alpha class. Yeay Tootie Frooties!!!!

aephi alum 11-28-2003 01:18 PM

My chapter's spring new member class will be the Pi new member class.

I was part of the Alpha new member class (chapter founders).

Senusret I 11-28-2003 01:19 PM

My APO chapter didn't name our pledge classes; we numbered them.

I was on Line 87. The most recent pledge class was Fall 2003 - Line 96. (That means my five year anniversary is next year.)

My APhiA chapter uses neither greek letters nor numbers....I was just on the Spring 2003 line.

AlphaXi4983 11-28-2003 02:28 PM

we use the greek letters....

i was in the Psi class - i pledged in spring 2002

we just initated the Alpha Beta class earlier this month :)

DolphinChicaDDD 11-28-2003 05:45 PM

ALPHA CLASS- WHOO-HOO FOUNDERS!!
We just initiated Gamma Class, which upset some of us, because we were the Gamma Class of our local sorority.

But, nevertheless, we are excited to finally get to DELTA!!!

Lady Pi Phi 11-28-2003 05:48 PM

I was pledge class Tau. I believe we had just initiated pledge class Chi.

FAUNikki 11-28-2003 06:28 PM

We are not supposed to use Pledge Classes, but we do it for our own knowledge.
I am the Alpha Mu class. Our next ladies (during the spring) will be Alpha Omicron.
My chapter was founded in 1991.
It's weird because there is another sorority on campus who was founded same month and year as us and they just did their Omega Class.
We have a much shorter new member period, so that is probably why.

33girl 11-28-2003 07:23 PM

We never named our classes, even before NPC started discouraging it - we were just Fall 89 or Spring 92 or whatever. Easier to remember. :) Bloomsburg and I think Ship use "20th pledge class" and so on - I could never remember that.

If hazing due to seniority is a problem I don't think it will go away just by getting rid of saying "the Alpha Beta pledge class."

Lady Pi Phi 11-28-2003 08:04 PM

We don't use the class names, it's more of a way to remember how many classes we have had.

GeekyPenguin 11-28-2003 09:08 PM

We were talking about this at our Regional Leadership Conference and a lot of us were agreeing how easy it is to refer to classes by name - "OK, Beta Psi's housing payments are due in January, anybody from Beta Chi who hasn't paid their building fund yet is overdue and will be assesed, etc, etc, etc." I see no problem with doing this and for a chapter like ours it's much easier than saying "Juniors, seniors, sophomores, etc" because hardly anyone joins as a freshman.

33,

Lock Haven uses the semester and the year for pledge class namings. I don't like the Greek letters.

honeychile 11-30-2003 12:56 AM

I have honestly never heard of this practice!! The big thing we had was our Initiation number.

mommag2 11-30-2003 05:07 AM

My chapter is only a year old so I'm part of Beta class (Spring 03) and we just crossed over Gamma class. Can't wait for Delta class.

TexasOphiA 11-30-2003 10:09 PM

we activate lambda class on friday! (we have only been on campus since 98). We were the first on campus :-)

I don't understand why they won't allow naming of the new member classes. Can someone explain it to me? Also, what is the difference between a old chapter and a new chapter?

I think that AlphaPhiBubbles joined Alpha Phi at one school and then transferred to another school and joined the A Phi chapter there.

efcheerBB 12-01-2003 12:08 PM

I am a proud Alpha Lambda (Fall 2002). We recently initated our Alpha Nu class. They are cute and call themselves *The Nu-bies* :)

Elena

gamma_girl52 12-01-2003 02:02 PM

I am a founder so I crossed on the ALPHA line :D in Spring 1998 so I'm celebrating 5 years as a Gamma Sig.

Our next line in Spring 2004 will be Nu Line.

Hey, I wanted to know if you were a founder how come you crossed a line? In my sorority, our founders weren't on a line it was after them that the first line crossed. It is probably different in your sorority but I was just wondering.

Sister Havana 12-01-2003 02:53 PM

In Alpha Phi Omega, pledge classes are named for an alumni brother who's done a lot for the fraternity. Fall pledge classes have a national namesake and spring pledge classes (at least in our chapter) have a local namesake. I think that's a cool tradition....what an honor!

I pledged in Fall 1993, in the Earle Herbert pledge class. The current pledge class is the Ray Hancock pledge class.

Here's a list of all the national namesakes since 1946.

My line was the first to cross at my school. Even though I'm a founder I still was on one (my DP was from a different chapter) anyway--I had a pledge process and all of that. All of the founders of my chapter came from Beta-Epsilon lines (that covers Spring '98-Spring 2000). We are all conidered founders because we all pledged/crossed over while we were still a colony. The lines after that (Zeta-present) would be like what you described.

Most sororities do it like how you said, but Gamma Sigs are weird :p When I was DP at one of our newest colonies I did the same thing--they are Alpha Line at that school. Hope that cleared it up a little bit.

shadokat 12-01-2003 04:13 PM

I was in the Eta NM class, but they're up to Delta Delta now (naming as D Phi E does, with single letters, then Delta Alpha, etc.). Yes 33 girl, at Bloom ASA does theirs with numbers....they are up to 48th now I think! The locals use that number system as well...
