'Tis the Season!

I loved reading the 'All I want for Chritsmas thread' so I was wondering what are you all getting the special people in your life for Christmas?

:D

Mom- I got her a DVD/VCR combo.Lord knows it'll take till next
year for her to figure out how to use it..lol
I usually get her some new perfume too haven't looked for
it yet though!

Dad- Is a golf-aholic so something in that theme...lol
And an Izod sweater..lol.. For real i swear he still has some
from the 70's...lol

Sister- She is in need of a big girl watch I am pricing some DKNY
ones she likes mine so i may get her the same one. maybe
some gold earrings she is always losing her earrings.

Guy friend-Still don't know either cologne or another Kenneth
Cole watch! he also like Fossil so maybe....

Goddaughter #1- She'll be 13 in Jan. 04 and the clothing out
there is RIDICULOUS! So I try to stay away from that
stuff..lol.. Although last year I got her an Aeropostle sweater
and she fell out so maybe a few more of their things. She is
in love with Hello Kitty and she is a cheerleader so a few
things re: that as well

Goddaughter #2- A Savings bond, clothing and some Dora & Bob
the builder stuff

My cat-She was bad all year so nothing but coal! OK OK a lil catnip!

So who's on your list???

:D

TonyB06 11-25-2003 10:45 AM

yall crazy, so I'll ask

can I slightly amend the question...

how do you make sure what you give someone in a relatively new dating situation isn't taken the wrong way or sends the wrong signal.

situation: I've got a friend that's been dating a really nice person for about 3-4 months now; it's not exclusive but both people are comfortable and enjoying things. I got, errrh, I mean my friend has enough sense to not go out there buying jewelery for Christmas, but he is a "top-shelf" kinda guy and wants to represent, with the gift, what the last few months have been about.

...what does my friend buy for a gift (suggestions)? What do sistahs expect in this sort of circumstance? What would you give the dude in that scenario?

sorry for the hijack, LawyerGal.

lol. ;)

Does she like being pampered? Get her a day of beauty or a half day of beauty at a nice salon. Manicures and Pedicures always make my day.

LawyerGal - Mr Toocute and I are going low key this year. Only children ( people under 15) are getting gifts this year. I'm getting something special for my parents but I have no idea what it will be.

nikki1920 11-25-2003 11:57 AM

I cosign on the pampering day. A gift certificate to her favorite store also works.

FeeFee 11-25-2003 12:36 PM

Momma FeeFee - She wanted some sweaters, but I went on ahead and bought her a new robe, pajamas, and slippers. She need those items more than anything else. I might go back and get her a sweater anyway. She's been really good to me and Lil FeeFee, so it's only fair that I do right by her. :)

Lil FeeFee - I owe her a bangle (I accidently broke the one I bought her 2 years ago). A new pair of earrings, a few outfits (she is soo picky y'all it ain't even funny - but she knows how to coooordinate!!! :p ). Between G-Ma and Daddy, she'll have her fill of toys. Mind you, her b-day is three months later in March.

Mr. FeeFee - I don't know if he is still going to be Mr. FeeFee by the time Christmas rolls around (long story :( )

My Sister - Probably a perfume set or a handbag.

I have to buy gifts for about 6 co-workers (we have a birthday and Christmas exchange deal going on which works pretty well).

Tony - Gift certificates are a God-send!!!!! You CANNOT go wrong.

I co-sign as well. That shows that you are..I mean your friend is (;)) thinking about her mental state. You, err...your friend will earn a LOOOOTTTT of cool points with that one! :D

sorry for the hijack, LawyerGal.

TO first answer LawyerGal's questions:

My neices, nephews, godchildren (total of 13 kids)...GIFT CERTIFICATES. Traditionally, I HATE gift certificates unless it is for a specific thing (like a massage) because to me it takes no thought. I am totally destressing from Christmas this year so they all get gift certificates. Amount will be based on age, but no one is getting more that $50.

Hubby and I are trying to deemphasize gift giving to each other during Christmas to make sure we focus on the right things, but we may get a tread mill or redo our kitchen floors (trying to decide between hardwoods and tile, but I know that linoleum (sp?) has got to go!)

Mother in Law is easy...she loves this particular kind of china so we'll probably get her a piece of that. Considering we paid for her to go on a very nice trip recently she shouldn't expect anything!

My parents. I'll probably get him cologne, mom will get books.

That's it!

Tony, while I love being pampered, I would not go with the mani pedi gift. You ...I mean your friend... ;) wants her to be able to look back in 5, 10 years and say remember when you gave me this. My suggestions:
If she is a reader, get her a really nice coffee table book
If she has a "signature scent" get her a gift basket of lotion, power, etc. so she can layer.
Think something that you can do together as well...like a nice picnic basket. Offer to take her on a picnic to "break it in"
Luxurious items like a cashmere wrap, leather, fur lined gloves are nice but don't say "call your girlfriends and start picking out your wedding dress!" :D

Remember, for me at least, it's really about the thought that is behind the gift, not the amount of the gift. The gift that says I know you and thought about your likes/dislikes mean more than some expensive bauble. My brother in law bought all of his girlfriends NICE diamond earrings one year. I'm sure they all (there were 3) who thought that meant they were the one. Little did they know he went to the store and said "gimme 3 of them".

TonyB06 11-25-2003 01:25 PM

So since so far nobody has hit on these 2 lower-tier tickets to the Cavaliers game to see LeBron, I'm guessin' she might not think that was the move to make, huh? :D

But seriously,ya'll are bringing good suggestions, more than I, ahem, my boy, had come up with so far. (and I do apprecite the ideas, I'm learning from this). Eclipse, her personality seems closest to what you've indicated; always trynin' to see the deeper emotional meaning behind stuh....but then that's why she hangin' out with my boy, ain't it :p

the female mind... a mysterious yet compelling place, ain't it?

AKA2D '91 12-05-2003 11:19 AM

Mother- A DVD player, Burberry Perfume, and tennis shoes-what do you pick up for someone who has almost EVERYTHING?

Nieces: Books/ magazine subscriptions. My youngest niece calls my mother EVERY Tuesday to read to her. She just turned 6 and I think that's sooooo cute. :) I'll also get her a bunch of Hello Kitty stuff. My oldest niece- hair care items (bows, headbands, hats); CDs

Nephew: Spider-Man, Hulk action figures, learning activities. He's 3 1/2. He wants whatever his sisters have. :o

Sister: Gift certificate for make-up etc. (um her b-day is 12/21 so she gets a 2-for-2 deal) :p

Bro-N-Law: shirt/tie/socks

Myself: A purse! :D DVDs, CDs, whatever else I see that I want! I've already received 4 new tires for the car, a tune-up, and oil change so I'm somewhat satisfied.... and ready to hit the road during the holidays :D ;)

For my Crew (Sorors): I purchased all of us the SAME Pink and Green Ornament. It will serve as a keepsake. :D

That's all I've thought of for now. I'll decide what I'll get the other peeps in my life before Dec. 20th.

CrimsonAngel2001 12-05-2003 06:09 PM

Mommy- Dooney and Bourke Bag, leather jacket and a spa day

niece- porcelain tea party set and books

nephew- autographed carmelo jersey and books

baby nephew- blocks and books

sister- spa certificate

brother in law- giftcard

So...what did you decide to get?

Still thinkin'. Besides I like to live on the edge; you know, take it down to the wire --I have elbowed my share of oldladypeople in the department store on Dec. 24, (that's a joke...mostly) :p

Also, I went "CIA" and called her best friend and asked her to snoop around in conversation to give me a better sense also. Between the GC peeps and the counter-intelligence operation, I'll work sumthin' out.

...it ain't quite as easy as the 8, 4 year old. A half-hour in Toys R Us --black Barbie section-- and you good to go. ;)

I'm giving you an applause, this was a conversation between my friends the other evening about whether or not you buy your children dolls that LOOK like them. I don't think I am racist, as some of my friends called me, but I don't think a non-black doll will ever cross the threshold of my future house as a plaything for my future kidpeople.

As for the topic at hand...

My auntie had to convince me not to be hateful towards mom-dukes and husband this year and to go in with her on a gift.

For them I'm going in on some kind of special damn coffeemaker, that in addition to several other functions, brews a cup at a time.

Nana will be getting a tennis bracelet

The friend whose name I drew will be getting a gift certificate to Vicky's, what she asks for EVERY year.

No manperson to buy for :(, but I was planning on getting P-Diddy a nice watch, as he left his favorite one here...and I didn't like it anyway.

I'm going to get myself a day at the spa, complete with massage, pedicure, facial, manicure, etc. I really need this the more I think about it. :D

Hey Eclipse,

It was funny readin' this again! :D "My friend" seriously contemplated the Day-Spa option (but couldn't get enough background info since it's in another city) but ended up going with the perfume option, J-Lo's Still?

Boring, I know, but plans called for more expressions, but said friend started "trippin'", so I had to do some lightweight re-assessing ;). Thanks for asking. If memory serves, your hubby was from Cincinnati, right? I'm going to assume he got plenty of Bengals football gear from the Mrs., right?? :D

AKA2D '91 02-05-2004 03:37 PM

If you don't mind me asking, how did she start "tripping"?

LOL No Bengals gear this year, but since he is so geeked about Marvin Lewis I did promise him that if the Bengals ever make it to the division championship (or heaven forbid!) the Super Bowl he could go. Not that I'm really worried about that....;)

AKA2D '91 11-16-2004 10:46 AM

Angelicqt716 11-17-2004 05:33 PM

Mom: she wants the "if ur happy n u know it" eeyore. So that, and probably a lane bryant gift card

Dad: I don't even know. He hasn't said anything he wanted. Maybe some dvd's or something.

My someone special: An xbox, controller, and some games. Maybe a nice shirt or something.

My kitten: probably another boyfriend since her's ran away last night:(

To my friend: Undecided. I'll make something work for her.

LawyerGal1908 11-17-2004 09:27 PM

WOW!

If that wasn't the fastest year EVERRRRR...... :D

I am at a lost on everyone this year except dear old Dad. I got a catalogue from... I think Red envelope and they have this nice golf club suitcase thing that holds a full set of clubs, a grooming kit and has a zip up section where you can hang shirts & pants... I may get him that!

Oh and our Chapter is doing Secret Santa Soror so I got to do some shopping for her and my Line sisters... Lawdie the list is getting longer I better get crackin'! l:eek:

Schmeer 11-22-2004 07:10 PM

Can you believe it's that time again?

Mom - pretty jewelry . . . prob earrings.

Dad - something to do with golf. You can't go wrong in that department.

Bro - ipod. He's going to love it - I take mine EVERYWHERE.

Friends - this one is hard. Anyone have any suggestions on what's the hot gift this year? I don't want to do the gift certificate thing again.

Nieces/Nephews - these plushy toys called bedbuggs. Super cute and there's a set of different personalities, so they can get a whole family :)

But most importantly, I still have no idea what I WANT. eek.

sigirl 11-23-2004 04:10 PM

I'll be getting a digital camera and some cam accessories for my parents. At this point I don't have a clue as to what I'll be getting my friends. I haven't done gift cards before, so that'll be a good option if I can't think of anything else. Has anyone ever used an American Express gift card?

What are bedbuggs, Schmeer? They sound cute... and if they're affordable maybe I can buy some to take care of the little tykes in the fam.

I've been given an American Express gift card before. They are just like a debit card and can be used anywhere that accepts the AmEx credit card.

sigirl 11-23-2004 07:23 PM

Thanks, skeeliteful! I might give some as gifts this year.

OrangeMoon 11-29-2004 02:40 PM

Mom- Coach purse since she will not purchase one for herself

Dad-Clothes I am so tired of seeing him in that bathrob

Brothers-NOTHING well maybe I will get them giftcards

Manfriend-iPod ~goodness I hope those things go on sale soon

God Daughter-clothing

Schmeer 11-29-2004 03:41 PM

Sigirl - I'm definitely asking for a digital camera for Xmas . . . all my friends have them and I can't wait to have my own!

The bedbuggs are totally affordable . . . I think they're like 6 bucks and if you get the full set you get the 5th bugg for free. I just looked at their website and all the different buggs have their own voices and personalities. I really think the kiddies in my fam are going to love these.

And if anyone you know is from Pittsburg, they even have a Pittsbug that's decked out in Pittsburg sports stuff!

sigirl 11-29-2004 06:05 PM

Thanks, Schmeer. That sounds like a good buy. I actually have a friend going to school in Pittsburgh... perfect! :)

Schmeer 11-30-2004 07:21 PM

Great! I just ordered mine and can't wait for them to get here! I wish I had more friends in Pittsburgh, but I've broken down and gotten one for myself that I can attach to my computer. Couldn't resist.:D

Jaggergirl 12-13-2004 04:33 PM

oh man. I have no idea what to get my boyfriend for Christmas. I feel like such a slacker this year. Usually I have this all figured out by Thanksgiving so now I'm in a panic! I'm thinking about tickets to some event in town - but will that come off as too "here's what I want to do?"

Schmeer, have you gotten your bed buggs yet? Those look so cute!

Gyrl7 12-13-2004 08:02 PM

Lemmeeee see

Mama Gyrl7- will get a whole new wardrobe. Since she lost so much weight, I get tired of her taking in her clothes. I guess that's hint enough to buy her a few new outfits.

Mr. Gyrl7 - Well since he's in Iraq, he told me to hold on to my special gift for him until he comes back, but he did request a care package. And mine will be given to me by his sister.

My Brother - He always has been hard to shop for, so this year maybe I will get him some tickets for two to a play or something or some money.

Gyrl 7's Bosslady - We usually go out to lunch once or twice a week, so each year I always had her pick out her gift but I always told her it was for my friend and each year she fell for it. So I guess we'll see what she picks out for herself this year.

GYRL7'S GIFT - MY MAMA'S DOCTA ON A BED OF 200+ COUNT SHEETS.........:D ;)

A Louis Vuitton Bag
2 pair of boots
2 pair of shoes
2 Jazz CD's
Some Paloma Picasso Perfume, Fendi Perfume,
Some workout clothes
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT GIFT OUTSIDE OF MY MAMA DOCTA.....A DOUBLE EXPRESSO/COFFEE MAKER.

Didja get that Santa huh, huh, huh???:p

Steeltrap 12-13-2004 08:08 PM

Mom: A TK designer purse.
Sister: Maybe some fancy cookbooks.
Nephew: Golf.
Line sister's son: Toys or books.
Line sister's newborn daughter: Clothes, of course.
:)
Me: I get money, so maybe I buy a Hermes agenda for myself.;)

sigirl 12-14-2004 07:31 PM

I finally bought that digital camera for my parents... it looks so cool and has lots of neat features. Now I want one for myself -- not good. I'll have to save up for it -- but who knows... maybe my parents are thinking a digital camera will be a great gift for me! That would be awesome. =)

Jaggergirl, I think the bed buggs are too cute! I ordered a Pittsbugg for a friend and can't wait to get it. As for your boyfriend's gift, maybe you can get some tickets to an event for him and tell him to "take a buddy." (?) =P

Schmeer 12-16-2004 01:06 PM

So I got the buggs in the mail yesterday! They're cuter in person than the pics online - if that's even possible :) The Pittsbug is def my favorite -- too bad I'm not a die hard fan of Pittsburgh sports, but I still think the little guy is cute. I played around last night and put it on my shirt with it's velcro mouth. Ha!
