Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Muslim Groups Demand Apology from Dr. Laura
By Michael Starr New York Post Nov. 20--An Islamic group is demanding that radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger apologize - for calling Muslims "murderers" on her nationally syndicated show. On Monday, a caller asked Schlessinger whether her teenage daughter should accompany her "moral themes" class on a field trip to a local mosque to learn "how Muslims are treated" in America. "This is a class on morals. What is the point of going to a mosque?" Schlessinger asked. "You're joking of course . . . I think you ought to stand up against this class and this teacher. "This is despicable," Schlessinger continued. "You tell [the teacher] you are willing to go to the mosque only if it is one that has done its best to route out terrorists in its midst . . . " Schlessinger then said she was "horrified" that the woman would allow her daughter, a Catholic High School student, to visit the mosque. "I am so sick and tired of all the Arab-American groups whining and complaining about some kind of treatment . . . What culture and what religion were all the murderers of 9/11? "They murdered us," Schlessinger said. "That's the culture you want your daughter to learn about?" "It's very disturbing," Ibrahim Hooper of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) told The Post. "Basically what she does is paint all American Muslims as potential terrorists or supporters of terrorists. "That's a very disturbing attitude coming from someone who's listened to by millions of people each week." Schlessinger did not respond immediately to calls from The Post. |
Why does any one bother listening to that woman. She's INSANE!!!!

Dr. Laura rules ;)

Dr. Phil, Howard Stern, Oprah (remeber the beef incident) I still think she's insane and she gives bad advice |
I think she's an absolute crazy woman.
And on top of that, I am sick to death of this attitude about Muslims - not to defend the extremist ones, or the people responsible for 9/11 - but in all honesty, there are murderers of ALL races and colors. Many serial murderers have been white - does that mean everyone should hate all white people? For heavens sake. |
Re: Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Well I guess when Muslim countries stop sending their prime ministers to give hateful antisemitic speeches, stop funding terrorists and their institutions, stop using undeniable hate speech against Christian and Jewish infidels then maybe people like Dr. Laura will be exposed as empty and hateful - a product of the past.
People should not have something forced on them. Religiously I am not allowed to set foot in any other religious institution. And also nobody should be forced to be more "sensitive". If parents or a child don't agree, then so be it. Accept it. They haven't done anything wrong. -Rudey Quote:

I'm just frightened that people can't trust their own judgement about child rearing and have to ask a radio talk-show host their opinion. I don't think my mom called Paul Harvey and asked if it was a good idea to put me in accelerated classes. :p

She proves there are extremists on both sides. That's all. It's not really irresponsible what she's doing. She's not inciting people towards violence. She's just giving advice after she was asked for it. I don't even see where anyone gets off being offended?
Tolerance doesn't mean that we have to accept everyone. It means we tolerate their existance. Until Schlessinger straps a bomb on her back and goes after a Mosque or says that doing so is a good idea on her show, I don't see what the problem is. |

These days...people are becoming INtolerant of anyone that is actually opinionated and is not afraid to speak up about it. |

This thread is scary. No, tolerance does not mean that you have to tolerate everything, and clearly this woman has a right to pull her daughter from the field trip if she feels that is the right idea -- I'm not arguing that. But deciding that all Muslims are murderers because a handful of them did something atrocious on 9/11 is painting with a pretty wide brush, and the fact that people aren't even questioning that is really scary to me. |

I'm just speaking my mind...just like her. |
Thank you Lady Pi Phi.
It is also my honest opinion that it is never a responsible practice to promote racial intolerance. I personally believe that education about other religions is a wonderful first step toward understanding the world we live in. If you want to think all Muslims are murderers, fine. If I want to think you're seeing the issue with blinders on, that's fine too. |

Rudey,
All I'm trying to say is that it accomplishes absolutely nothing to say that all Muslims are murderers. Because that in and of itself is a lie. Not all Muslims are murderers. Saying that they are promotes racism. When I was in middle school, they took us on exploratory visits to local colleges around the Baltimore area. There was a big fuss because some of the parents refused to allow their children to see the campus of Coppin State, a historically black college. It's the same thing - WHAT does that accomplish? Versus what would be hurt by letting young people see things that are different from what they know or are used to?? And what bad places are you talking about? Where would you have people take them? I've been to the Holocaust museum before. That doesn't mean I hate Germans. And I'm sure many Jewish people have been to the Holocaust museum, or have family who suffered through the Holocaust. Should Jewish people hate ALL Christian people? No. That's ridiculous, and the fact that there is a person spouting off nonsense like that on the radio is, to me, ridiculous. And irresponsible. |

But how would you feel if she had been talking about a black history museum? Would you feel the same way you do now, or would you be mad? |
I know what you said but you also said that people were becoming intolerant of people who speak their mind. I'm not intolerant of her, I just think she's nuts. I don't listen to her anyway, but I'm allowed to think she's crazy. Just like I don't listen to Howard Stern, I can still think he's vulgar.
|
I didn't say all. That's your thinking. But I do think that when an investigative report has to have all mentions of the Saudis blacked out by the President to protect them, that the image is not going to change. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.
The case with the black college is different. That is pure racism in and of itself. What would be the flip side of a black college? It's an institution - not really an exposure to a culture. The Jewish people that do spout off words of hate against all muslims and christians are terrorists as well. So is the case of Christian fundamentalists, Indian nationalists that attack the minority Muslims, etc. In the case of the Holocaust, there can never be anything to make up for it but there can be efforts made to at least mollify the situation which happened. She has every right to be on the radio. I don't see where she even used the word "all". To you is there even a possibility that a culture itself, not the people, could be at fault? -Rudey Quote:

And there is a radical sect of Muslims...those that don't want to believe that are in denial... |
THERE IS A RADICAL SECT OF EVERYONE!!!!!
There are radical whites, blacks, muslims, christians, catholics, etc etc etc. Those who dont want to believe it are in denial. So does that mean we should practice intolerance against everyone?!? That we should prevent our young people from learning about religions, because there are crazies out there who happen to practice murder in the name of that religion? |
"Laura Schlessinger is a sad, angry, emotionally troubled woman. I think she harbors a lot of guilt and bitterness against both her parents and others who have hurt or betrayed her through the years...She always seems angry, uneasy, and uncomfortable. She makes many mistakes in her information, often passes off opinion as fact, and is completely unable to accept even the mildest critical response to anything she does or says. Radio suits her problems very well, for she can vent at an anonymous voice without having to see the damage that she does. I wonder: can that many of her callers verify that she actually helped them with the problem they called about? I have discovered that using insults, degrading comments, ugly, hateful remarks rarely results in someone changing to please me. More often, those things result in hurt feelings, anger, or a decision to ignore what I am saying. I suspect it works pretty much the same way for the more illustrious Laura Schlessinger. She just doesn't care much for the human race. .....More chillingly, does she talk to her son the same way she does her listeners?"
Someone else wrote this on a guestbook, but I think it says what I was trying to say, but couldn't put into words. Dr. Laura is a woman who preaches family values and closesness, but estranged herself from her mother, and let her die alone. Thats not something that a decent, rational person does. |
Look someone sould take her to court (again) or her sponsors.....
The company I worked for years ago (Unilever) was taken to court over statements she made regarding homosexuals, the mentally challenged, and Quebec. Because Unilever was the sponsor of the show at the time (well for Canadian re-broadcast) the company was held legally responsible for in effect sponsoring her views. End result company lost money in court battles, Laura is dropped like a dead skunk by 99% of all sponsors and Canadian broadcasters. PS. I refuse to call her "Dr. Laura", is she a medical doctor? No. Does she have a doctorate? No. |

It has nothing to do with practicing intolerance...and everything to do with having common sense. Why do we insist on being so politically correct that we ignore reality?? |

As long as there are Muslim men and women out there who are not murderers, I will never believe it was the "culture" that did it. People are crazy. People do crazy things in the name of their religion and culture. That doesn't make the culture and religion "bad", "evil", or "sadistic", and it shouldn't prevent people from learning about it. |
Quote:
Maybe there is an sadistic side of Islam that wants to destroy us all, me included. There is nothing I can do about those extremists. I also know and work with many kind, wonderful people who practice the Muslim religion, whose lives have been damaged beyond repair due to ignorant statements like "all Muslims are murderers" and "they want to destroy us all".\ This thread is scary. I quit. |
Quote:
i really wish those kind wonderful muslim people would be more outspoken against those that are giving their religion a bad name. its funny that all those media types like louis farrakhan can do is to continually bash america and Bush....why don't they denounce those that are supposedly taking the Quran out of context?? Yea this thread is scary that people are in denial about the enemy that lives next door. Hey have u seen the movie "the usual suspects" when Keyser says the greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he didn't exist??? Same rationale applies to the Radical Muslims. You forget that the ones that can do us more harm are the ones that live among us... I'm sure everyone thought Mohammad Atta was wonderful and loving too until he rammed some planes into the WTC... Wow...my own views make me take a step back sometimes. Its hard to be so outspoken and opinionated when its not popular...but somebody's gotta do it  |
Quote:
Most people have to take a step back and put things in to context. Love_Spell_6 you can claim that 98% of terrorist attacks are by Muslims... but by that arguement I could claim that 98% of the attacks have also been commited by men, should we therefore blame all men. The same arguement could be made for each party in any conflict.... hell by some of the arguements in this thread it is perfectly valid for Iraqis to hate the US... after all 98% of the attacks on them have been by Americans:rolleyes: This is why I have to agree with pirepresent. |
Quote:
Its funny that the only argument people can come up with is well its not ALL of them.. I don't believe anyone ever said that...but that's what ya wanna hear.. And actually most of their attacks have been amongst each other....Get ya facts straight before you try to dispute an argument. The MIddle East has caused for more turmoil by themselves than we could ever do! I don't believe Dubya has gassed them or dragged them in the public square and beat them about the head....all in the name of Allah. |
Poor Dr. Laura; an educated, white, Jewish woman, with ideas that are often very non-pc. Dangerous! I don't listen to her program, and I'll bet that many of you who have negative views of her don't either. So how do you form your opinion? Why is it wrong for a parent to ask someone for an opinion, regardless of the motive behind the question? What’s wrong with a parent making a parental decision that their child not be exposed to a certain religion or culture? If a parent views a certain religion/culture/ideology as dangerous, their concerns should be acknowledged and addressed by the school/board/district/etc, until the issue is resolved to the parents satisfaction. Speaking out against Islam is simply not pc and that is all that is wrong with it.

Funny is that some people throw out statistic. Is there extremism in Islam, of course there is. But guess what, there are extremism out there, not just islam.
Do you know who not only condone, but also justified apartheid using the bible? A sect of the Christianity, namely the Dutch Reform Church. Does that mean the Dutch Reform Church represent all Christianity? No. Al-Qaeda is based on the teaching of Wahabnism. Many posters does not realized that Islam is not pluralistic. There are many branches, just are there are many branches of Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. louis farrakhan is very poor example of a Muslim because he isn't one. Sure his organizations is called the Nation of Islam, but he believed that there is another prophet after Muhammad, which is a direct contradiction of Islam. My problem is not that people critized radical Islam, but the way people put it, it seems that people have generalized islam. And, as my professor always said, generalization is the first step toward stupidity. |
I'm too lazy to read this whole thread, but if I saw "Dr." Laura on the street, I'd trip her at least. The same goes for Ann Coulter.

I think that the only way for us to stop living in a society of fear is to become educated. Maybe if more parents and their children learn about other religions and how their followers are treated in our society, we'd have less fear and less stereotyping and maybe could move on to have productive discussions that might lead to some kind of understanding. I do think it's a problem for a parent to raise a child so that child is isolated and sheltered from other religions. If a parent views a certain religion/culture/ideology as dangerous, I think that parent should be educated so that she can understand the real belief system of that religion, rather than acting all pissed off at the school for trying to provide an education. Maybe this parent should have sent the kid to a school that only teaches the exact same stuff the parent believes, so that the kid can grow up to be just as closed minded. |
