Oh my gosh! I use to have the biggest crush on him! When I was little, I thought I was going to marry him! I can't believe he died.... I wonder what happened.

mullet81 11-19-2003 05:45 PM

OMG he was on seaquest dsv - i loved that show!!! thats so sad!

Lady Pi Phi 11-19-2003 06:03 PM

That's so sad. I also used to have the biggest crush on him.

ThetaGrrl 11-19-2003 06:07 PM

I think it's weird that I haven't seen it in any other papers... he was pretty famous... you'd think it'd be more widespread

breathesgelatin 11-19-2003 06:11 PM

My best friend was so in love with him... He was really popular right at the time we were at the age for BOP and all those other teeny-bopper magazines...

ZTAngel 11-19-2003 06:12 PM

I don't think he's done anything mainstream since Seaquest. I kinda think Hollywood has forgotten him which is why it hasn't become national news.

Unregistered- 11-19-2003 06:16 PM

I had all the BOP and Teen Beat posters of him all over my wall.

So sad. :(

ETA: Stuff I found from the 'Net...

The moderator of seaQuestLinkUp (a yahoo group) called the LA Coronors office to confirm the death of Jonathan Brandis.

This is what he said to us in an email tonight, "I have spoken to the LA Coroner's Office and they've confirmed the following;

The FACTS are that he committed suicide by hanging himself. His friends found him at his apartment on the 12 November 2003.

There is still an ongoing toxicology report which won't be available for about 4 - 6 weeks. "

This is all I know. I have not found any other information on the web about his death.

cash78mere 11-19-2003 06:25 PM

i absolutely loved him when i was like 14. i can't believe he would kill himself. :(

MeLikey 11-19-2003 06:52 PM

One of my co-worker's friends called and told us about it... couldn't believe it. I loved him in Lady Bugs.

Cluey 11-19-2003 11:01 PM

I loved him. I think just about every girl around age 25 loved him at one time or another.

How tragic.

RioLambdaAlum 11-19-2003 11:17 PM

my cousin was in love with him! wonder if i should tell her....

butterfly2001nc 11-20-2003 08:30 AM

i heard this on another board...no idea it was true! :(

i really liked in Fall into Darkness and Ladybugs

how come their hasn't been any news on it?? that's weird!!

smiley21 11-20-2003 09:43 AM

OMG!!! he used to be the object of my fantasies;) i cant believe he is gone!:(

ZTAngel 11-20-2003 09:47 AM

I still can't believe E! hasn't done anything on this. He's not a huge star anymore but I still think a lot of people remember him. Hell, even my boyfriend remembered.
Me: "Honey, Jonathan Brandis died. Me so sad."
Him: "Who the hell is that?"
Me: "He was in Ladybugs."
Him: "Huh?"
Me: "He was on Seaquest and in the movie Sidekicks."
Him: "Ohhhh...that dude."

OrigamiTulip 11-20-2003 09:47 AM

I did not know who he was, but it saddens me to hear of someone taking their own life. My thoughts are with Jonathan's family and friends as they try to come to grips with this.

mullet81 11-20-2003 09:59 AM

let us not forget his wonderful work in the neverending story

that's exactly what i was going to say!

MereMere21 11-20-2003 11:23 AM

oh my gosh! you would think this would have been covered more :( I had the biggest crush on him when I was 14 or 15 I think. How sad

butterfly2001nc 11-20-2003 11:38 AM

they have to know that he died, right? if they have can stories on the guy from Fame and other people like that - out of the spotlight for a long time then J.B. should be no different.

If they don't confirm and do something on this, then they are not true journalists, like they all 'claim' to be.

stupid media! but yet they want to talk about j-lo and ashton and britney and all these other people that we are really sick and tired of hearing about..

ohhhh...so frustrated bout that!!! :(

Munchkin03 11-20-2003 01:53 PM

I've heard too many conflicting things about this--and none from any major news sources--to know whether or not to believe this quite yet. You'd think the LA Times would have it in an obit--even just as a matter of public record.

ZTAngel 11-20-2003 02:10 PM

Maybe this is all just false info?
I was reading about how in the 70's the main character from Leave It to Beaver was supposedly killed in Vietnam. Everyone in America thought he was gone and they were talking about it on news shows.
He's still alive. He did a radio show a few weeks ago and he said that to this day he has to clear up those rumors. He'll tell someone who he is and they'll say, "But, aren't you supposed to be dead?"
Maybe this is the case here?.....
I just find it odd that not even E! has done anything on it. They always report the deaths of actors who many people have never heard of. Many people know of Jonathan Brandis.

FAB*SpiceySpice 11-20-2003 02:40 PM

I am so sad that he died! I can't believe he commmitted suicide, that is so horrible. :( I remember after I watched ladybugs for the first time ever i got the BIGGEST crush on him!!! He was so cute!!! I even thought he was cute in the movie IT even though he stuttered. Wow, I still can't believe this. :(

butterfly2001nc 11-20-2003 02:54 PM

so this is confirmed and we all know it's true? i'm just not believing that no one has said anything about it yet!

:(

ThetaGrrl 11-20-2003 03:59 PM

I have only seen it in the one article I posted the link to. I'm not seeing anything about suicide in it, though, so I'm trying to figure out where everyone is getting that from.

mu_agd 11-20-2003 04:14 PM

i just found another article on his death on zap2it.com

http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|84772|1|,00.html

it's calling the death a possible suicide, but they won't know for sure until the autopsy results come in.

texas*princess 11-20-2003 04:34 PM

 ohmygosh I can't believe it!!! When I was in middle school, my best friend and I had some SERIOUS crushes on him! We watched Seaquest DSV all the time just because he was in it.. and had posters of him all over our rooms. It's terrible he died ... and so young :(

xok85xo 11-20-2003 10:46 PM

i was really sad when i read about this yesterday..i still can't believe that none of the major news sources (or even e! for that matter) reported this..

heres a link i found to an article on zap2it.com

Hootie 11-21-2003 01:46 AM

WoW...where have I been!?!?! I can't believe it wasn't on any of the morning shows or anything!

MareImbrium 11-21-2003 03:25 AM

I remember having a huge crush on him too. I used to cut out all the pictures of him found in those teen magazines. I still have those clippings. Then I read an article about him dating Tatanya Ali, the girl who played the younger daughter on "Fresh Prince of Bel Air." I also remember him having a minor role in that sitcom "Full House" during his younger days.

CNN article

http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/1....ap/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Jonathan Brandis, who from an early age appeared in a string of roles on television, commercials and film, including the starring role in 1991's "The Neverending Story 2: The Next Chapter" and two seasons on Steven Spielberg's "SeaQuest DSV," has died. He was 27.

The county coroner's office is investigating the November 12 death, which was reported by the Los Angeles Police Department as a possible suicide, Lt. Ed Winter of the coroner's Investigations Bureau said Thursday.

The coroner performed an autopsy but the cause of death will not be announced until the results of blood and toxicology tests are returned. The investigation could take as long as four to six weeks.

Police said a friend of Brandis called 911 from the actor's apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report Brandis had attempted suicide. Paramedics transported Brandis to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he died the next day, police Detective Gene Parshall said.

The office of Brandis' agent at Innovative Artists refused to comment.

Brandis started his career in commercials and on television, landing a recurring role on the soap "One Life to Live" at age six. After moving with his family to Los Angeles at age nine, he made guest appearances on such shows as "L.A. Law," "Who's the Boss?" and "Murder, She Wrote."

Other film credits included the Rodney Dangerfield comedy "Ladybugs," and the martial arts comedy "Sidekicks" with Chuck Norris, and a small part in the 2002 film "Hart's War," starring Bruce Willis.

Brandis also starred as crew member Lucas Wolenczek in the underwater sci-fi series "SeaQuest DSV," a role that garnered him a Young Artists Award in 1993 and helped turn him into a teen idol.

Lady Pi Phi 11-21-2003 10:21 AM

I didn't know he was Ride with the Devil (isn't Jewel in that movie?) and Hart's War.
I think I want to rent those tonight.

eta: there was a bit about his death in the free subway newspaper this morning in Toronto.

DWAlphaGam 11-21-2003 11:22 AM

Whoa! I hadn't heard about this. I, too, was a HUGE Jonathan Brandis fan...in fact, I was just talking about him recently and I was wondering where he'd been. I guess now I know. So sad. :(

dzrose93 11-21-2003 11:35 AM

I loved Jonathan Brandis! I know he was famous for other movies, but my favorite was Stephen King's "It" where he played the lead character as a child. I think he was 12.

This is so sad. Reports that I read this morning say that he hung himself, and didn't leave a suicide note. A friend found him on the 11th and called 911.

*edited because my dates were mixed up* :D

This is from the article that I read...

texas*princess 11-21-2003 01:36 PM

Oh!
I thought when you said you heard he died yesterday, you meant literally yesterday (the 20th) :p

Sorry for the confusion... Now that I've gone back and re-read it, it definitely looks that way. My bad! :D

SparkliiQTMTSU 11-21-2003 10:45 PM

OMG this is awful I wish it werent true. Its so sad especially to think the he commited suicide :( I loved him in alot of things I think I have most of the movies he was in and I used to have SeaQuest taped lol. its a tragedy.

Nichole

AXJules 11-21-2003 11:44 PM

This is just so sad to me.
What makes someone kill themselves?? He probably felt worthless, like his career was over, like no one would notice if he died.
The sad thing is, it seems like he was right. :( :( :( and that breaks my heart. He was incredibly talented- but even without that, the idea that ANYONE can feel that way is horrible.
