Is the GC change for the better or the worse?

I have noticed a lot of changes lately on this forum. I am not only talking the new set up but people's attitudes have changed too. Do you think the change in GC was for the better or the worse? And why do you feel that way. No name calling and let keep it clean so we do not up-set anyone. Lets try not to get this thread deleted.

I kinda like it becuase I hate seeing all the political bashing. That was just anoying.

But The system is weird, I guess I am going to have to retrain my brain. :(

People are getting brutal to all hell.

At first I didnt like the set up but now i find it that im not liking the attidues either.

Yours could be included.

Btw, the setup changes and the "attitude changes" are not related.

AXJules 11-14-2003 08:36 PM

I don't think people are getting brutal, I just think there aren't really any good topics (no I'm not saying I've contributed any, relax) and we've lost a few people that made the board fun. I'm not even talking recently, either. Some oldies have stopped coming around b/c of all the bullshit, and those are the people I miss.
I don't know a lot of the new people, and I feel like my friends are taking off, so I don't have a lot of interest in being here anymore.

Reorganizing the boards kind of spreads people out, which can be a good or bad thing. People will get used to it and a whole new crowd will take over. As for right now, I think my crowd is on its way out.

i haven't been here that long so i guess i'm considered a newbie (even though i'm technically a "senior member " :) ) but i've come to realize on this site and others that people have opinions and although you may not like 'em, they're still going to express them. I have fun here, i love reading posts from certain people (librasoul, geeky, fab, and axjules always make me laugh and deltalum seems to put a lot of thought into his posts) and everyone else seems really cool.

as for the new format, at first i was a little turned off by it - but now i like it a lot. i know where everything is and posts i always enjoy responding to don't get pushed to the bottom because of posts i don't care about.

I really like it. The attitudes were already pretty bad, I don't think that's changed any. Well, I guess some people are ill with the changes so that comes out in what they say, but that can happen with anything. So, overall, I think the changes were a good thing to happen.

Peaches-n-Cream 11-14-2003 09:27 PM

A few months ago people complained that this place was boring. Now people are complaining about attitudes. Whenever you get a large group of people together, there will be many opinions and attitudes. You will agree will some, disagree with others, and, if you are anything like me, you will be completely confused by many. :)

i like the splitting of chit chat. i think it makes things more focused. i just wish i can get rid of all of the clicking

juniorgrrl 11-15-2003 04:24 AM

I really don't post that much here anymore, so I have no idea about the "attitudes" and what's going on with that.

But I do have to say this -

I still miss the lightbulbs. I want to go back to Old Skool chit chat with the lightbulbs!

The multiple threads are more time consuming for me - I preferred the "one click shopping" of it.

I enjoy the fact that good threads aren't buried in two seconds. Once you start a thread in most areas, it's gone to page 2 in no time. And after it hits page 2, it's usually gone forever.

I think we'll see way less "bump"'s

OUlioness01 11-15-2003 03:51 PM

i htink i've missed a lot on GC in the past couple months...i don't know whether i like the changes or nor\t.

i do miss how friendly everyone seemed to be on the boards back when i was a newbie though....in the past 5 months or so i thought that GC was starting to get really vicious. That's part of the reason i haven't been around.

Senusret I 11-15-2003 04:52 PM

In terms of attitudes......people definitely seem to be more snippy than they were when i first joined. i do frequently use the ignore feature though. it doesn't work on mods though.

i think splitting chit-chat was a good move. i tend to prefer discussions about entertainment than politics. like it was stated elsewhere, less bumps!

I'm definitely with you on this one. I could hardly stand trying to keep up with a thread when you had to dig through a few pages to even find it again. The more focused general forum is undeniably better in my personal opinion.

MTSUGURL 11-15-2003 11:19 PM

I like not seeing threads that are offensive before you read them just because of the titles. I think that the new set up and the fact that some threads are being deleted is a good thing, for one reason just because this site is accessible to so many people. As for attitudes, I figure they will get better as people get used to changes.

Tom Earp 11-16-2003 12:19 PM

Wow, changing of the threads!

Well, I am the hardest one to concinve and learn new stuff, Old Dawg Trey.

But if many look, there were problems, just look and check how many people are posting on those threads that are having more posts on them. That those actully had less, but have picked up because they are more to the forfront. This might in the long run help more people find out what is needed for them as opposed to a clogged CC Thread.:)

Dionysus 11-16-2003 10:51 PM

This sums it up perfectly

Yes, PUH-lease don't!!!

TechAPhi 11-16-2003 11:48 PM

I use the "ignore" feature way more than I ever did when I first joined. It's a shame because the silly chit-chat is fun, but when people try to be purposely inflammatory, it's a real turn off.

It's a shame, too, because most people are here to have fun conversations, not to be attacked, put down or embarassed when they read posts.

I wish it were possible to ignore entire threads posted by people on your ignore list, now that would be an enhancement!

Just one girl's opinions.

justamom 11-17-2003 03:18 PM

Yes, I too have noticed some "haughty" replies to some threads,
less compassion for some problems, maybe a loss of interest in
certain topics is to blame.

The changes appear to be good.

I think more people-newbies- will feel comfortable posting due to the distribution of topics AND posters. I wonder though if becoming more encompassing will take away some of the closeness many feel.
Soon, a person like me may not recognize newer people and feel awkward responding in a lighthearted way. I guess the best way would be to make the rounds, but with the new set up, I honestly don't think I will have time.

...but I do think it's healthy for GC.

Honeykiss1974 11-17-2003 03:32 PM

I don't think (or hope) the issue was with differring opinions, but with the fact that there were certain posters who CONTINOUSLY and PURPOSELY would turn any discussion into a WWE match - personal attacks, insults and all. Just out of the blue. That mess get very old after a short while.

I'm not talking about serious threads that dealt with racism or sexcism, but basic, simple threads about things like clothing or something like that. That alone was one of the reasons why I stopped frequenting Chit Chat.

On another note:

I like the new set-up, but then again, I like organization, so it flows with me.
