Hello Pi Phis...

I checked out the highest bidder so far on that auction and that person looks like he/she only cares about making a quick buck (I checked the previous auctions). As of right now it's at $51.00, and I'd hate to see this in non Pi Phi hands.

Let's hope that cotter@oaktree.net is a Pi Phi!

Thanks, y'all. I can tell by the user names that our national office has made a bid on it so I'll just hope. The booklet doesn't look familiar so I don't know what all it's got; our books didn't have any secrets in them, only blanks, because Pi Phis were supposed to hand down the secrets by word of mouth only.

AOPis had a secret manual up for bid last week and my daugher, who is her chapter's rituals chairman, is hoping hard that it didn't have anything in it.

amycat412 05-21-2001 09:08 PM

this one is insane! $790! I hope hope hope the bidder is a pi phi, would be sad to see a pin, especially one so old (circa 1890's) go to a non pi phi.

I don't understand why anyone (unless non-Greek) would want the manual or know the secrets of another fraternity/sorority...That's so disrespectful!

Wine&Blue 06-16-2001 07:48 PM

I agree piphigirl. Why would any non-pi phi's be interested in this? What would you possibly have to gain by knowing this info?

erniegurl00 07-10-2001 11:51 PM

I just checked out Ebay. There is a ton of Pi Phi stuff on there! There is another pin up for bid. If I had the money I'd buy it. It would be great if these items could stay in Pi Phi hands!

Pin on ebay

Anyone know if central office bids on pins on ebay? There is a NICE one on ebay right now... I wish I had the cash to rescue it!!

Ooooo, I saw that, it's exquisite. Our national office does watch ebay but I think they only step in if there's an item of historical significance. There's some name they always use when they bid--they put it in the Arrow a year ago and I've forgotten it but would recognize it and back off a bid if I saw it.

People in my chapter tended to get their birthstone in their pins--so gorgeous!

TrojanGirl 07-16-2002 10:23 PM

Oh I WISH I could aford that! If it doesn't go over $75, I might try, but I doubt it!

I once contacted CO about a pin on ebay and got a reply saying all they really do is try to let the family of the person know that their badge is up for sale. If they tried to bid on every pin they'd go broke! (unless...we start a donations fund specifically to purchasing pins? wonder if this would work...doubt it, since most of us can't even pay our alum dues)

I think if a Pi Phi bought the pledge pin (which would be great and I would buy it if I wasn't so poor and I didn't have to pay in US dollars), but it should be sent to Headquarters. We obviously don't know what chaoter it was from so Headquarters would be the best place to send it.

Pins for sale on Ebay

In case anyone has extra money they would like to spend on pins, check out ebay. As of 3 March 2003, there were 3 pins for sale, ranging in prices from $100 to $200+.

I would hate for these pins to be in non-Pi Phi hands. :(

One with seed pearls

One with emeralds and seed pearls

One with opals and seed pearls

Lady Pi Phi 03-10-2003 04:18 PM

Well bidding has stopped on those items. I wish I had extra money to throw around.
I just hope those pins did go to Pi Phi's.
It is a shame if they did not.

FuzzieAlum 03-10-2003 05:04 PM

Well, two went to TyOregon, who is a collector. Sorry!

carnation 03-10-2003 05:25 PM

Tyoregon says his wife and daughter are Pi Phis--he registered on GC awhile back. I just hope it's true.

nucutiepie 03-10-2003 07:56 PM

ohhh those badges are soooo beautiful! I can only hope they are in good, Pi Beta Phi affiliated hands

You should check the Alpha Phi forum the thread about the unusual Ahlpha Phi pin. They say Ty Oregon's daugter and mother were Alpha Phi's. lol

There's a plain gold Pi Phi badge on ebay right here -- right now it's only $11!

Ebay Listings!

I stole this topic off of another forum, but I think they made a good point. On ebay, many times you will find our sorority badge on sale. I think we should do soemthing to stop non-members from buying them. I know I have sat there sometimes outbidding people I know arent Pi phi's just so the badge isnt in their hands. Many of the people who sell these badges are not members themselves and I know a number of my sisters have asked a few to turn them into headquarters. Most of them dont care and are in it for the money. They know that if you get a sister bidding on this pin, they will spend as much as possible to keep it out of the hands of non-members which means mroe money for them. I dont know how many of you go on ebay or would like to help in stopping this, but I know I do it all the time. Sometimes they sell badges on there for as cheap as 9 dollars. Other times they sell them on there for 150 dollars. I talked to headquarters and they said occasionally they have someone on there that tries to buy up as many of the badges they can find. SO if you ever see someone with the name of piphiarchivist on there, then you know that they are workign for headquarters. Well everyone, let me know how you feeel, any ideas, or just whatever.

PPL&M,
Candace

Lady Pi Phi 04-24-2003 04:25 PM

I wish I had the disposable income to be able to to that. If I did, I would pick them up left right and centre. I might even keep one for myself (they are so beautiful:) ) Unfortunately I don't have the money. Even if I could buy the cheaper ones (like the ones around 9 dollars) with the exchange rate it would be like 1, 000, 000 dollars Canadian (okay I'm slightly exaggerating). But it would be nice if the Pi Phi's could band together and save our pins.

A Very Old Pin

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11145

This is a link to a beautiful pi beta phi pin on ebay. I am very curious as to the background of this pin. I have NEVER seen anything like it and I can imagine it is very very old. Anyone with ANY info please let me know as I love to learn the history of these old pins.

Thanks a lot,
MLK

kellbell 05-06-2003 11:36 PM

Wow! That is beautiful! If I had the $ I would def buy it! I just hope it ends up in a Pi Phi's hands!

angelic1 05-08-2003 02:16 AM

It is the name, chapter and initiation date of the original owner. I'm not sure exactly when badges stopped having names engraved on them... I know some of my friends moms had names on theirs (initiation dates in the 60s) but mine did not... I was initiated in 79

carnation 05-12-2003 08:02 PM

I was initiated in 1973 and mine only has my number on it.

Badge on ebay

Sorry to crash, saw a Pi Phi bage on ebay.

It's Item number: 3619540392

dakareng 07-25-2003 03:07 PM

I checked.... it's a plain badge (the one you get when you are initiated) and it's been sold.

bgsarah 08-04-2003 11:26 PM

another

dakareng 08-12-2003 03:50 PM

This badge varies slightly from the jeweled badges now available through our jeweler in that the tip is also encrusted. Most badges currently just have a jeweled shaft (and would cost a lot more than the current bid)

Lady Pi Phi 08-12-2003 08:46 PM

The Pi Phi badge that is attached to the Sigma Nu badge is very interesting.

I'm curious as to why they would be attached?

dakareng 08-15-2003 08:36 PM

Yes, having the badges attached would mean that it had belonged to a Pi Phi who married a Sigma Nu. I suppose they could have been dating, but traditionally you don't attach the badges until after marriage
