Looking for good bars to check out when I go to Vegas. Also, looking for a good place to go for a bachelorette party on a Thursday night.

You are going to have an amazing time. Definetly go to Ghost Bar (Palms) and Studio (MGM Grand). When I went last year, we stayed at NYNY. Most of the hotels on that side of the strip have really cool bars to hang out at and tons of restaurants! My favorites are between the Paris, Venetian, and the Belagio. I want to stay in one of thos the next time I go!

There is an outdoor bar just outside of Harrahs called Carnival Court - they had some really good 80's cover bands there.


Someone told me to do Coyote Ugly in NYNY.

I liked ghost bar a lot. If I had to wait in a line like everyone else I don't know how I'd feel but I was with some girls who sweettalked us in. I think there was a place in the Rio that was really cool too and new. Maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else.

I agree with Rudey! You need some girls to 'sweet talk' you in. The line to Ghost Bar is NUTS.

Coyote Ugly is in NYNY. Again, the lines are nuts, so either get there early or be ready to 'sweet talk.'

You will have a blast there! RA at the Luxor is a great club to go dancing!

If ya want male dancers, Australia's Thunder from Down Under is at the Excalibur.

The Venetian is a beautiful hotel! Great rooms. If you get a room at Aladdin or Paris, get a high floor and make sure it overlooks the Bellagio fountains!

Vegas is a cool place to get married and NO you do NOT have to have Elvis at your wedding.

The place in the Rio that was mentioned earlier is the voodoo lounge. The Palms has Rain also,but I'd say ghost bar is best. Oh and the opinion of Vegas being your favorite city would change quickly if you had to live here everyday.

I think i went to rain also. I honestly didn't like being in Vegas because of the fact that I wasn't with a large group of guys. How the hell do you enjoy this place if you go with a family, as a couple, or with girls??

I blew about a week's worth of my current pre-tax salary on the tables there. I was so trashed I played that damn stupid Chinese poker game. None of the girls I was with did this. None of them thought it'd be funny to get trashed and act all funny. The bars and clubs are fun I guess but that's not why you go to Vegas. You go to vegas for the cheap accomodations, the gamblings, the waitresses in tiny outfits, the mexicans on the street giving you those fliers, the ability to just get down and grimy.

I'm going to Vegas with my girlfriends in December! We just booked the flights today and I'm so excited!

The last time I was in Vegas, my friends and I went to Coyote Ugly in the afternoon to check it out. We met a bouncer and he gave us free VIP passes for later on that evening. We went back and we git to walk right in. We've gotten into the VIP at Baby's by just by asking the doorguys what was going on in there. We got to meet Eminem! :) But once you're in VIP, there are no ins and outs-not even to go to the bathroom!

If you want to go to rumjungle in Mandalay Bay and don't want to pay or wait in line, make dinner reservations for around 9-9:30. They won't kick you out after your meal, so you can stay as it turns into a club. Plus, they have an awesome dessert that is a book of matches, an ashtray, and a "lit" cigar completely made of dark and white chocolate! :D

It's definitely a HUGE advantage if you're a group of girls. Most any door guy in Vegas will let you in for free if you are really nice. Don't try to be supercool or shady. Just be nice and if he's cool, he'll let you in. (Especially if you say you're there for a special occasion like a birthday, bachelorette party, or someone's first time in Vegas)

many hotels are going back toward the nickel slots so there are more chances to just play for fun.

i'm going to vegas december 26th-29th..i'm so excited, i can't wait. i'm a big fan of studio 54..i've always had a good time when i went there. personally i think that rumjungle is overrated..the drinks are way overpriced, its pretty small and you can't bring any drinks onto the dance floor.

in terms of bars, i've heard good things about voodoo lounge, vbar)venetian) and red square (mandalay bay)

my chapter has a tradition of going to Battista's after our depinning ceremony. They serve free red wine with your dinner and we wear the red napkins on our heads.

This is definately the place to go if you want a good example of what Las Vegas used to be.

We never got a chance to hit Battista's. Next time :)
We did have our wedding reception at the Venetian Ristorante on Sahara and Valley View. Great food and had a great time!

The venetian Ristorante is also excellent, and still family run. I actually enjoy the food there better, but since it's off the strip I didn't think many people would know about it.

Where are you staying? I stayed at the MGM when I was there last May and we had a blast. Studio 54 is totally fun, and you guys would probably have a great time going there for a Bachelorette Party. I just saw that Orbitz is having a Las Vegas hotel sale...you should check it out - it might be cheaper than what you are already paying. But anyway, have a great time. Vegas is awesome, and I can't wait to go back. Other things I'd check out would be Madame Touseau Wax Museum, gondola rides in the Venetian, and Mystere.

Make sure you give us a FULL report on your trip when you get back!! :-)

Me, my husband, and 6 of our friends are staying at San Remo. Everyone else that is going to Vegas for the wedding is staying at the Tropicana next door. Four of us are heading out on Wednesday night and everyone else is heading out on Thursday.

I've already been to the Madame Touseau Wax Museum in New York City so we probably won't hit that.

As for the bachelorette party I'm not really sure where we are going yet. I was officially put in charge of it last Friday. There are 14-18 people going out for the bachelorette party on Thursday...I'd like to find some place that is walking distance. Since I've never been there before I'll have to scope things out on Wednesday night and ask for suggestions from my husband.

I'll make sure to bring back a full report. :)

I've been twice....
Once with my family....REALLY REALLY BORING!!!
Once with a fraternity for like a day and a half.....I don't remember much except drinking non stop on the bus ride there, watching ppl puke on the strip and having trouble walking straight, and deciding NOT to go to the strip club (how stupid am I??).....also I remember all cramming into two or three hotel rooms, and best of all, me ditching my date :) LOTS OF FUN...and all I brought along was a medium sized kate spade bag!!
But I would love to go once I'm twenty one and check out all the bars, shows, and have lots of fun (NOT gambling...ick!!)

if ur gonna go to vegas dont worry about the shows or the bars! hit up the bellagio or the mirage and play some high limit hold em!!!!!!!

I'm going on the 19th!!!!! I cannot wait! My friends and I are staying at the Tropicana. If you want something within walking distance, Studio 54 is across the street in the MGM Grand. You should definitely check out Coyote Ugly at New York New York too. It's perfect for bachelorette parties! Tell us ALL about it! :D

Why does time go by so slow when you really want to go some place???

21st birthday!
 

My mom is taking me and 2 of my girlfriends to Vegas for my 21st birthday in January. I'm so excited that my first legal drink will be there while blowing some money on Craps! And Sueali, I would love to come see the Sig Kap house at UNLV! I'll come over to our boards to chat about that though! Any other suggestions for 21st birthday fun?!

Well I got home from Vegas around 7pm and I'm still in one piece. I'll give you the full report tomorrow after I get some much needed sleep. But I will tell you that I got to meet Kiefer Sutherland at the MGM on Saturday night!! :)

Any tips on the weather? Was it freezing or what? I've heard that I should bring lots of sweaters and wear layers because it can get as low as 35 degrees at night! :eek: Did the clubs you went to at least have coat checks? I can't wait to hear all about it! :D I'm leaving Friday after work!!!!!!

Oh girl, have a blast!! I went to Vegas last year during Christmas and it was FREAKIN COLD!!!! Take lots of warm clothing!!! I didn't go to any of the clubs, so I can't tell you about coat checks, but I'm sure they do, the nicer ones any way. Have fun and be sure to tell us all about your trip! :)

I might be going for New Year's. I'll be missing you by about two weeks. Ah!

sorry to say UNLV has still not approved the proposal for greek housing, not even greek dorms. they been talking about it eversince i joined and maybe eversince sueali joined. but if you want to pm me the vegas sig kaps, not being biost and all;) , are the best. we have a really good chapter.

for being cold.....yeah it gets really really cold at night around the 30s. it got so cold that a week ago it SNOWED a suprinsing sight to see in a desert!!!!!

I'm jealous! I want to go back to Vegas. I went in 1998 when the US Jaycees had their national convention there. The Bellagio was just being built and a lot of these other places weren't there yet. We stayed at Bally's and loved it. We didn't do a lot of clubhopping but we went to Studio 54 and had a blast there.

My younger brother is the dayshift boxman (table supervisor) on the dice tables at the Palace Station on Sahara and I-15. Sorry, while he occasionally fills in as floorman, he doesn't have the 'power of the pen' (read: the privilege to issue 'comps' depending on your level of play).

"New shooter coming out... winner, winner front line winner seven... coming out... Yo' leven, front line winner, take the don't's and pay the field... same shooter coming out... six easy six the point... bet the hard way... two craps no come, pay the field... eight easy, bet it hard, Out! Seven out, line away, pay the don'ts and the last come!"

I completely forgot to post the details of my trip. Here is a the story of our trip written by one of my friends...

Wednesday
Waiting for us when we arrived was Mike and Amy, since their flight arrived about 45 minutes before ours. The four of us jumped in a cab and headed around the corner to the Tropicana, our home for the next four nights. After dropping our bags in the room, we headed out to find a bite to eat. We also got together with Patrick's friends from MN (Corey, Ellie, Mike, and Kerry). After scarfing down a couple of tacos from a nearby food court, we headed down the strip. We stopped at a couple casinos along the way, but ended up gambling most of the time at the Aladdin. The ladies had some luck on the nickel slots and brought home a little extra cash. After a little while, we started winding down, so we headed back to the Tropicana. After a little gambling there, Jessi and I decided to crash around 4am PST (since it'd been about 25 hours since we last slept).

Thursday
We pretty much tooled around town gambling and seeing a few sites in the morning. By the early afternoon, we were starting to gather up the troops to start the bachelor & bachelorette festivities. Of course, I'm not going to go into detail, but I can say a couple things. The men skipped dinner and stuck with the liquid diet, and my cell phone came up missing 3/4 of the way through the night. I've got a really good theory on how it disappeared, but you'll have to email me for that story. :-) Side Note: Jen & Dan caught up with us that night, since they couldn't catch a plane until Thursday night. Anyway, the men stumbled into our rooms around 5am PST. I don't remember going to sleep that night, but I did find about $100 in winnings in my pocket the next day...

Friday
The lack of sleep is starting to catch up with us. We slept in quite a bit, but we were still able to gamble a little "in house" before we had to head to rehearsal dinner. Rehearsal dinner was held at the Rainforest Cafe inside of the MGM Grand. We had a great time. After dinner, we went back to the hotel, changed and jumped into a cab. We had the cabbie take us to Fremont St. That was pretty cool, since that was my first Fremont St experience. After watching the overhead lights, we headed over to the Stratosphere. After a little bit of cranky arguing (see first sentence of this paragraph), we went up to the observation deck. Amy, Courtney and Dan decided to ride the Big Shot, and Amy convinced Dan to ride the super scary X Scream. I'll ride just about anything, but that X Scream is NOT on that list! After those thrills, we had our photo taken together as a group. Oh My GOD! Snarf's (Jessi's nickname for the trip) body is missing! She was wearing a green sweater when we stood in front of the green screen. :-)

Saturday
Since all of the girls were in the wedding (besides Jessi), Dan, Jessi & I walked down the strip checking out some of the older casinos like O'Shea's, Harrah's, the Flamingo, and others. After A LOT of walking, we went back to the hotel to get ready for the wedding. On the way to the wedding, we passed Wayne Newton's pad Shenandoah. The wedding was beautiful, and we had a boogied down on the dance floor after dinner. When the reception wrapped up, 27 of us jumped into an Excursion limo and drove around town for a bit. It was a BLAST! After pimpin' around for a while, we were dropped off at the Tropicana to slightly change and get back out to party. We all met back at the MGM stage area/bar for quite a few drinks. The lucky couple (Susan & Patrick) were welcomed on stage and were sung to by the entertainer while they slow danced in front of the huge crowd. We hung out for a while, and then the girls noticed that Kiefer Sutherland was sitting about 10 feet from where we were hanging out. So, the newly married couple and Jessi, Jen & Courtney got their photo taken with him. Pretty cool huh!?! After that, we headed to an Irish pub to switch up the scene and to have some more drinks. We were also there to celebrate Patrick's birthday (actually Sunday). After a while, we all went back to the hotel to get comfortable and head back out to do some gambling "in house".

This is where we went our separate ways...

Sunday
We packed up and headed home to Cleveland.

Sunday (for the rest of the group heading back to Detroit)
We packed up the room, checked our bags, and went to get some McDonald's before we caught our flight. After eating, we went to the airport and waited about 40 minutes to get past the security check (roughly a frickin' million people were there). We boarded the plane with Pizza Hut in hand. The captain came on the loudspeaker and notified us that the flight would only be a little over 3 hours. Thank you tail wind! While kickin' back in our "comfy" seat next to the engine (loud as hell), a middle aged woman was walking down the aisle. She was pale as a ghost and by the time she made it back near us, she started to lose her balance and she stumbled and passed out onto the floor. Luckily, a EMT was sitting a row or two up, and he jumped up and took care of her. The verdict: the woman hadn't eaten in over 24 hours and her blood sugar was so low, she passed out. Nice huh. Anyway, they took good care of her and comped the flight for the EMT for helping out. We arrived at DTW at 8pm. Russ (Rob's mom's new husband) picked us up and took us back to get our car. We were home in Flint around 10pm and were in bed around 11pm.

oh thank you for bumping this up! we were all sitting on the edge of our seats with anticipation!!!
