Cingular (?) Sorority Commercial

I just saw a commercial for Cingular Wireless (Could have been Sprint) that had the monotone sounding dude telling a sorority that their nightime minutes now started at 7PM and they all went nuts screaming. I thought it was funny. As far as greek centered commercials go, I though tthis one was pretty lighthearted.

tunatartare 11-11-2003 09:49 PM

Hahaha, I just saw that during Gilmore Girls. It's hilarious. I also liked the fraternity one they made with the picture phone with the guys in the fraternity playing pranks and sending pictures to each other.

OrigamiTulip 11-11-2003 10:04 PM

I just saw it this evening, and thought it was cute.

Honeykiss1974 11-11-2003 10:38 PM

What! Nighttime minutes start at 7pm?

Shoot, I'd go nuts too. :D

cherub 11-11-2003 11:57 PM

I saw the commerial during Gilmore Girls too. My BF and I were chatting during the break and I had to shush him to watch the ad. :D

I enjoyed it.

adduncan 11-12-2003 12:01 AM

It was Sprint.

They used the same Fox-Mulderesque spokesman as in the rest of their campaign.

Definitely good for a giggle.

Yeah its Sprint. I hope that us Sprint customers can get it too and not have to be a new customer....cause minutes starting at 7 would be a great thing for me :)

HOW! Mine don't start until 9, stupid AT&T!

AlphaPhiBubbles 11-12-2003 05:08 AM

yea boo to at&t and minutes starting at 9! Have you guys seen the round table commercial where the rather large spokesman is talking to the fraternity guys about the meaty pizza or something and he's asking if it's better than toga parties and stuff and they say "Yea!" until he asks if it's better than sorority pillow fights and they say no....then the guy goes "yea but you had to think about it" I like that one. hehe

AEPhiSierra 11-12-2003 02:00 PM

sprint also has fraternity and sorority screensavers!! i was so excited when i heard but then I found out they only have a few glo's - and not AEPhi :-(

I am pretty sure you can get Sprint to offer you their new 7 pm nighttime minutes... I can't remember if it is a new Texas or national law, but now you will be able to keep your cell phone number if you switch carriers, so cell phone companies will be trying really hard to keep their customers.

I would recommend just calling up the Sprint rep. and ask them.. if they say it only applies to new customers, tell them some other cell phone company is offering you a really good deal. Usually after that they will bend over backwards to help you out and keep you a customer :)

p.s. the commercials sound cute :)

ETA: It's going to be a federal law.. I just found an article about it here: http://www.msnbc.com/news/992185.asp?0cv=KB20&cp1=1

Yup.

Sprint last year experienced a historic event for a cell phone company. They had a net loss in customers.

In response they have just about the most aggressive retention department in existance.

My advice is to call and threaten to cancel as soon as your Sprint contract runs out. Before doing so, research all other rates in your area and they will make you a deal that will beat all others (or at least be something you'll be happy with). I can confirm that yes, they can give you 7PM N&W minutes. Just tell them that Cingular said they'd give them to you :D

Really? that odd because I'm with Rogers AT&T (it's a Canadian Carrier)... though I'm on an old corporate plan (dont' know HOW I got on it, and I never complained) and if I were to switch plans my night time hours would start at 7 or 8 (depending on the plan).

SparkliiQTMTSU 11-12-2003 09:41 PM

Yeah I might have to try saying Im gonna switch to Cingular lol Even though i know that I wont since I work for the YMCA I get 10% off of my phone bill with Sprint :) so thats neato frito for me It only takes care of taxes but hell thats good enough for me!!

texas*princess 11-13-2003 02:16 AM

glad to hear that worked out for you SparkliiQTMTSU :)

polarpi 11-13-2003 02:32 AM

I just e-mailed Sprint and gave them the schmooze....the whole "we have two phones on the account and just renewed our contract for another two years, and nighttime minutes starting at 7 pm would be wonderful for any customer...Thanks for having such wonderful service for your cutomers...." :D ;)

Hopefully, it'll work! :)

Ginger 11-13-2003 11:42 AM

That commercial is cute :) I've only seen the tail end of it, but I liked it :)

Yall are lucky... I don't even get nighttime minutes... my unlimited minutes run from 12:00am Saturday morning to 12:00am Monday morning. Anything during the week counts towards my "week" minutes.

I don't know what I'd do without nighttime minutes....my plan allows for unlimited nighttime/weekend minutes, so that's good for me to call my sisters back in the Midwest! :)

I could have gotten that today, but it was $4.99 in my local calling area, which is different from my plan area. My plan area is All of Texas, and Louisania. My home calling area is just San Antonio. So it only applies to cingular customers in and around SA. PHUCKING not worth it.

BTW, I am screwd on my minutes for the month. I have 11 business days till my minutes renew and I only have 40 daytime minutes left. How in the hell did I blow through 860 mins so far this plan pd?

I used all 380 of my rollver mins last month. Who have I been talking too?

texas*princess 11-17-2003 02:02 PM

polarpi,
have you recieved a reply from sprint yet?

also, I have FINALLY seen the commercial and it was hilarious :p

GeekyPenguin 11-17-2003 08:50 PM

They have a commercial with fraternity guys now! :p

ShaedyKD 11-18-2003 10:29 AM

I have had Sprint since 2000, and when I called them about the 7PM nighttime minutes they said it would be $5 extra a month. I guess it's a nominal fee, but I have had my service for 3 whole years and they can't even give it to me for free? They did send me an email saying I could get nighttime minutes at 8PM though, and that service is for free so I changed my plan to that. I just hate how they advertise special discounts and rates and then you find in the small print that you are going to end up paying more than you already do!

Yeah, I received a reply and it's the $5 deal for the service. I told my mom (who pays our bill) and she didn't have a problem paying the $5 extra per month per phone, so my nighttime minutes now start at 7 (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! ~ it's so hard to simulate high-pitched screams on a internet chat board ;) )

I've now heard the commercial on the radio as well as seen it on TV...I think it's actually funnier when you're hearing it in the car than watching it at home! :D

Tom Earp 11-18-2003 07:50 PM

Aint Cell Phone Chit amazing!

Well, while I see no damn difference if you can transfer your # to another account what that has to do with anything!

Watch what you doo, they are all going to start comeing down!

Yep, I was told 7:00 pm and then found out it was 9:00 pm. Hell after two bills of 243.00 and 125.00!

MareImbrium 11-24-2003 05:58 PM

Yes the commerial was really funny. Then they did the same type with a fraternity. It was real interesting to see the frat guys all going wild that the nighttime minutes start at 7pm.

I used to have Sprint once but reception was just horrible for me. It was weird because it was either superb in some locations or sucked like hell in others. I just prefer AT & T and I haven't had any complainants with them.

UpPinkies 11-24-2003 10:36 PM

I love this commerical. When the windows break and when the girl point at the clock I crack up.

shadokat 11-25-2003 12:15 AM

By far, one of the funniest sorority/fraternity spoof commercials in a long time, and very light-hearted. I crack up every time I see it!! The girl pointing at the clock and more screaming...hysterical!!

Peaches-n-Cream 11-25-2003 12:25 AM

I finally saw the sorority commercial.

So does Nextel, but not for mine.

texas*princess 12-02-2003 05:20 PM

question for those who have recieved the 7 pm "upgrade" from Sprint

I was thinking about paying the extra $5 for the addition 10 hrs of unlimited talk time w/ Sprint, so I was checking out their website... here's what I found:

Quote:

Night & Weekend Minutes can be used Monday through Friday 7 p.m.—7 a.m., and Friday 7 p.m. through Monday 7 a.m. Calls on your PCS Phone are based on start time.

A two-year PCS Advantage Agreement is required. Night & Weekend Minutes are shared between all phones on a PCS Add-a-PhoneSM account.
As much as I love Sprint, I'm not so sure I want to commit myself to a 2-year contract with them... so for those of you who have already called and got the 7 pm option, did they tell you that you *had* to have a 2 year contract?

Tom Earp 12-02-2003 07:32 PM

Yep Sprinte, My Home Town PC Phone Co!:(

Same Portico of the House!

Out sizing to India and doing away with 6,000 USA JOBS! Each year, just before Christmas, Merry Christmas everyone!

I am not emuried with anyone of them. As I said in earlier post, I was tole 7:00 got a big Friggin bill. Oh no, we do at 9:00.

Cingular!

i do not need a Fuc*ing phone to play games, email, take pictures, dont know how to do it anyway. I just want a damn phone that you can call on and get calls on that dont cost an arm and a leg! Period!

Reminds me of a Grade B-Western. I have a better Deal for you!

In The Ks. and Mo. States that is called Mull Sh#t!

Yep, two year Contracts, I just redid Cingular.

The Moon, The Stars, I should have seen my astrologer!

Sister Havana 12-02-2003 08:35 PM

I saw a fraternity version of that commercial yesterday. Same setup, with the guy sitting there and the screaming...only it was fraternity guys screaming instead of sorority girls. It was funny. :D
