San Diego Area GC Gathering

Okay, so while talking in the thread about meeting someone from GC, I threw out the idea of organizing a gathering of GCers from the San Diego area. I'd love to meet more of you that are here in the best place to live! :)

What would work for you (where should we meet, what should we do, when should we plan on meeting, etc.)? Use this thread to start throwing out ideas, and hopefully we can get some concrete plans together to meet up with one another sometime soon!

josh8o 11-08-2003 04:53 PM

oh hell yes!!!!!
i have been waiting for this....i am down for whatever, whenever. but may i suggest that a bar should be involved!

gphiangel624 11-08-2003 11:17 PM

I'm not from the San Diego area, but I'm only about an hour or so away! I'd love to do something if someone is going to make plans! Keep me updated!

We should decide on a general area first: North/South, Coastal/Inland. Mission Valley/Fashion Valley, RB/PQ/Poway, PB, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Del Mar?

polarpi 11-09-2003 01:11 AM

How about centrally located, since it sounds like we can pull people from up north, closer to the city itself, I'm up in Ramona, etc.?

So maybe the Mira Mesa/RB/Carmel Mountain area?

phisigduchesscv 11-09-2003 01:42 AM

HI There,

Depending on the day and time (weekends best) I might be able to make it down from Los Angeles. What about sometime during winter break from classes.

Carolyn

polarpi 11-09-2003 02:59 AM

Meeting during winter break would work for those of us living in the area, but others who go to school in the area might be going home for the holidays and stuff like that. I'm not ruling it out, just bringing up the possibility of people not being able to come if it's over the holiday break.

Right now I'm going to a community college, so I actually have close to a month off from school for break during the holidays, but I don't know what you all think.

Any other suggestions? :)

navane 11-09-2003 03:06 AM

As I said in the other thread, I'm all for a GC meet-up in San Diego! I'm centrally located in Clairemont; so I'm good to go for most county areas. :)

How about somewhere in Mission Valley/Fashion Valley? For example, Trophy's Sports Grill and Bar in Hazard Center. Or, maybe we can go to The Old Town Mexican Cafe in Old Town....something like that.

Since I don't drink alcohol, I'm personally not keen on going to a flat out bar or nightclub. If everyone decides to go to a nightclub, then I'll probably stop by for 5 minutes to say hello and then go home. Sorry. :( If everyone is intent on having a party hardy GC gathering, then can I suggest starting out at someplace like Uno Chicago Pizzeria on Mission Blvd. in Pacific Beach? That way, we can have a fun place to hang out to start with; then, people who want to bar hop can carry on down Garnet Ave.

I'm really busy for the next two months' worth of weekends, but I think I can manage any weekday except for Tuesday evenings. I hang out with friends every Tuesday; plus, I am *not* going to miss watching "24"! :p Weekends are sorta bad for me right now but individual days may be available depending on when everyone wants to meet.

.....Kelly :)

DeltaSigStan 11-09-2003 03:31 AM

Well, since I drink alcohol, and I am right now......

I don't really know how to end that.

Why did I find that so damn funny?:D

I too am centrally located so most locations are cool with me. And as far as weekday/weeknight I'm cool with either as long as it's not too early on a weeknight due to traffic after work.

Since I'm always open to a good drink, any restaurant with a bar sounds good to me. ;)

One vote each so far.

PandaOnProzac 11-09-2003 06:45 AM

I say somewhere close to RB since I live there.

polarpi 11-09-2003 09:14 PM

In all honesty, anywhere we decide on meeting is fine with me. I'd probably be with navane...I don't personally drink, so if there's something else *plus* alcohol, I'd be fine. Meeting for food is always a good thing! :)

josh8o 11-10-2003 12:37 AM

what about dave and busters in mission valley, or the waterfront (old school bar and kinda restruant with the best burgers) downtown, or anywhere in pb, or sunshine and co in ob....i am down for whatever, as long as it is a fun environment.

oh, and i schedule class around happy hour, so timing is not a problem!

polarpi 11-10-2003 01:46 AM

I was actually thinking about Dave and Buster's when I first even thought about the idea about trying to get a San Diego get-together organized :)

I'm free basically any night except Thursday nights, and if we meet on a day when I had classes earlier, I can always go hang out with the grandparents until it's time to leave and meet up with all of you....so I guess I'm saying that I'm pretty much open to anytime that works for the majority of you! :)

PandaOnProzac 11-10-2003 04:41 AM

I'm still 20 so Dave and Busters has to be earlier.

It's a restaurant, do they not let people under 21 in after a certain time? I've only heard rumors of restaurants doing that but only have seen it done if it's actually a night club in the evening. Like a lot of the bars downtown.

DeltaSigStan 11-10-2003 10:34 PM

Yeah. They don't let anyone under 21 past like 8 or 10 or something.

Yeah, I don't see that very often; but it is done. I remember that happening at TGIFriday's before.

I was thinking I've heard Friday's does it but have never actually witnessed Friday's doing it. But then again, the only Friday's I've ever been at late enough to matter is the one in LJ and they'd be crazy to lock out the majority of their business.

-

I think if we do Mission/Fashion Valley area we should to Dave and Busters. If during the week, starting between 6 and 8pm. If on the weekend somewhere between 3 and 5pm.

If we're going to do to RB, I think the Elephant Bar because it's right off the freeway and easy to find. Otherwise if we're thinking north, I'd say Chilli's at Scripps Poway (again, easy to find for people not familiar with the area) or one of the restaurants in Carmel Mountain.

josh8o 11-29-2003 01:24 AM

hey we still gonna do this? we should hit up dave and busters in mission valley this friday like for happy hour...everyone game??

polarpi 11-29-2003 02:36 AM

I'm pretty sure I'm in....don't think I have anything on any calendar for that day, but I'll check and get back to you all...if it's a go for Friday (the 5th of December), what time should we meet up?

navane 11-30-2003 12:47 AM

I think I'm good for Friday. There is a chance I may have to be somewhere Friday night, but the person in charge hasn't e-mail me yet. :p

I don't know what time happy hour is at D&B. Plus, it has to be at a time Panda can go w/o there being a 21 rule. At any rate, I'm pretty much good to go! Can someone post a time please?

:)

polarpi 11-30-2003 02:30 AM

According to Dave and Busters' National Website:
Guests under the age of 21 (legal drinking age) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (a person 25 years of age or older who agrees to be responsible for the conduct and safety of the underage guests). Our N. Bethesda and Philadelphia locations enforce a year-round 11 p.m. curfew for guests under the age of 21.

Going to the information about the San Diego location, all I could find were the normal hours of operation for Fridays ~ 11:30 am - 2:00 am, so if anyone knows specific times under 21ers need to be out of there or anything, please post it! :)

HBADPi 12-01-2003 01:33 AM

I'd love to come down but I just wanted to check what the official time frame was. I'd have to drive down from the LA area and depending on when you guys wanted to call it quits I'd have to figure out when to leave and whether or not I should stay the night, etc.

If you wanted to just stay the night, I could probably set you up at my Grandma's house! :) She'd love the company and I could stay the night there as well...it's closer to D & B's than my house!

PandaOnProzac 12-01-2003 05:45 AM

I can't make it if it's December 5th. Finals is the next week.

DeltaSigStan 12-01-2003 12:41 PM

Why don't ya'll just kick it at Frat Row one night? It's only 5 minutes away from where we wanted to meet in the first place (D & B), and it'll save me and Josh some time lol.

HBADPi 12-01-2003 03:54 PM

But we saw each other at UCLA. Dude, talk about drunk discoveries. Of course it would be at an In N Out BUrger Joint lol.

navane 12-01-2003 09:54 PM

Ok, I've never been to Dave and Buster's so I don't know what time is ok or not. But since we need to get this set-up, I'm just going to have to take a guess. I hope this is ok with everyone.

When: Friday, December 5th
Where: Dave and Buster's Mission Valley
Time: 7pm until whenever

Please state whether or not you're going. Thanks!

.....Kelly :)

SoCalGirl 12-01-2003 11:12 PM

I move for a date change to the 12th. Just cause the 5th is only a few days away. The 12th will give everyone more time to check their schedules. :D

polarpi 12-02-2003 01:39 AM

Friday nights in general are pretty good for me. If we move it to the 12th, will those of you with finals next week be able to come, or will you be heading off for winter vacation?

The only ones that sounded like they'd be going if we had it this Friday were josh8o, navane, and myself, so a date change might work a little better, but I don't want to make the decision for anyone else. Imput from anyone else? :)

HBADPi 12-02-2003 01:03 PM

Sadly guys looks like I'm going to have to miss this get together. I thought my final was next Thursday, turns out its next Tuesday. I'm going back to Boston for christmas break on the 12th so looks like I wont be able to make it.

Have fun and maybe we can plan another one later (maybe in the summer when the weather's nice and we can make it a beach day :) ).

DeltaSigStan 12-02-2003 03:29 PM

We're doing something with Alpha Xi Delta this Friday, so I guess no dice for me :( .

navane 12-02-2003 05:17 PM

Okkk....seeeeeeeee I knew we were taking too long to decide. :)

Who can go on the 12th?

Eh? Alpha Xi Delta? I don't recall there being a chapter at SDSU. I think the closest chapter is at CSUSM, right? Is that the group you're talking about?
