Believe in Theta

Do ya'all watch the Believe in Theta video? Or is that just something that my chapter did?

I heard the song that goes with it the other day and got all teary-eyed! It made me miss being an active so much! Being an alum just isn't all it's cracked up to be!

sarahgrace 11-06-2003 04:30 PM

I've never heard of this...is it from nationals? Did you show it during recruitment?

Sarah

kiteflyerzl 11-06-2003 04:33 PM

Love that video!!!
We don't use it anymore and I really miss it.

It was developed my headquarters and used for Grand Convention a few years ago.

ThetaGrrl 11-06-2003 05:24 PM

Sarah,

You'll have to ask your ABC or someone if they can get a copy of this video from you chapter- it's this 10 minute or so video that just says all kinds of stuff that makes you want to be in Theta. We watch it on pref night every year, and without fail, I always cry. It is inspirational, and is the best way I've ever seen the idea of sisterhood/sororities explained. Seriously, I can not give it enough praises! I think you can order it from headquarters, but I'm not sure- it's definitly something worth investing in!

loyally,
Andrea

ThetaPam 11-06-2003 06:05 PM

Yeah, they showed it to us on Pref day. Most of the actives started crying, and next year I'm sure I will too!

ThetaPrincess24 11-06-2003 06:18 PM

YES! I too love this video and wish i had my own copy of it to share with my mother, sister, gramma, aunt, and other family members.

We also show this video during our preference rounds even during COB, it's a clincher for us. I cried as a PNM coming through rush watchign that video, and i've cried as an active each time i've seen it :) I dont know how you cant! hahaha

bluefish81 11-07-2003 12:02 AM

I love that song. It's the from Forrest Gump and is called "Forrest Gump Suite." Always make me cry. My chapter has used it in the past, and last year when one of my sorority sisters got married she used it in her wedding.

ThetaGrrl 11-07-2003 02:47 PM

That's so cute that she used it in her wedding! I'm getting married next year, but I think I would get so emotional hearing that song, I would just lose it! It is so pretty, and it totally brings me back to all the pref nights at my house...

wow, I get all teary just thinking about it!! in a good way, though... :)

ThetaPrincess24 11-07-2003 06:43 PM

I actually started thinking about adding that song into my wedding somewhere too one day........so many songs remind me of Theta.........Canon by Patchebel --they played this classical piece as girls come into the preference parties one by one.

Ofcourse the Forrest Gump Suite reminds me of the video--my dad actually listens to this soundtrack frequently in his tahoe and each time it comes on i think of the video and start telling him about it. I think he's sick of me telling him! hahaha

Then there are the fast songs that i wouldnt play at the wedding itself but at the reception: "Blister in the Sun", "Born to Fly," and i dont know why but the Leann Rimes song "I Need You" makes me think of my sisters, as well as "Because you Loved Me"

Other than these when i have babies I'll probably end up singing "There's a kite called a theta kite" as a lullaby.......I've thougth of havign some thetas sing "the theta way" that we sing at our preference at my wedding, but i'm not sure if that is allowed or not (though i dont know why, not everyone that comes through our preferences are pledged as members so we have non-members seeing it)

When my parents adopted my two sisters (finally! legacies), I did this more than I care to admit.

It makes a great lullabye though, since you can repeat it pretty much endlessly.

Luckily, they liked it. Hopefully it'll trigger a positive emotional reaction when they go through rush someday and not put them to sleep. ;)

YES! My chapter has used the "Believe in Theta" video for preference day of recruitment I think all the years I have been here. I remember watching it when I went through recruitment as a freshman 3 years ago...It still brings tears to my eyes when I see it or hear the song. I love the video I would like to have my own copy of it...
There are also a lot of other "Theta" songs out there. My chapter does play "Blister in the Sun" at I think all of our formals and preferences, even gets requested at other frats formals,etc...
One of our fall members is a legacy, her mother was/ is a Theta) and after our initiation ceremony, we have a party with food and singing and such...The entire pledge class got up and sang two songs. One was one they made up to the tune of a Spice Girls Song, it was about Theta and it was pretty cool. The other song they sang was one that the legacy's mother sang to her as a lullaby when she was a baby. It was so sweet and I had never heard it before.

ThetaGrrl 11-10-2003 12:09 PM

I always sing "There's a Kite Called a Theta Kite" to all the little girls I babysit for... I figure someday, somewhere, they'll be in a pref round and hear that song, and think, hey, I know that!!

I've taught my 12 year old sister tons of Theta songs too... and when I was an active, I'd let her spend the night at the house... she used to love it, and all the girls would love it too... I can't wait to be at her initiation someday!!

Janerz222 11-10-2003 12:39 PM

There is a Theta lullaby called Rock-A-Bye. I have sung it to both my son (now 3 1/2) and daughter (just turned 1) - I was using any song I could remember. (For my son, I changed the words a bit "you will date a Theta too", "Theta girls, they're the ones in season")

These are the words as I remember them. . .

Rock a bye, rock a bye my baby
Dream sweet dreams, dreams that someday maybe
You will be a Theta too
Who wears the Black and Gold.

Don't you cry, there is no reason
Theta tears aren't the ones in season
Kappas sigh and Pi Phis cry
'Cause they don't wear the kite

Rock a bye, bye, bye
Theta's kite flies high

Rock a bye, rock a bye my baby
Dream sweet dreams, dreams that someday maybe
You will sing this when you're old
Knittin' little booties out of black and gold

Rock a bye, bye, bye

ThetaPrincess24 11-10-2003 01:07 PM

that sounds awesome!!! what is the tune to the lullaby?

Janerz222 11-10-2003 01:58 PM

I am totally un-musical. It's not a melody I recognize from another source, but let me do some research and see what I can find...

undtheta2000 11-10-2003 04:59 PM

Janerz222-
that is the lullaby I was talking about in my post! The one that one of our fall members was sung by her mother, and the girls sang after initiation...
:)
It is such a pretty song!

I attended a very uplifting founder's day luncheon today with the Louisville Alumnae chapter. I cant agree with the statement that being an alum isnt all it's cracked up to be. I have enjoyed every alum I've met. One has even gotten me involved with alumnae panhellenic activities in the area, one of which I'm excited to be attending next month. Being a Theta alum is much like being a Theta active..........you get out of it what you put into it, and sometimes that means being the first to take inititiative to get the ball rolling :)

YES!!!!!!!! This is one of the very few songs that I still remember :-} other than initiation songs. Love this one. I gotta find out what the Theta Kite song sounds like!

And yes, girls, you SING those Theta songs to little girls and sisters! It will definitely make an impression in their little memories.

Glitter650 02-06-2004 04:36 AM

Hey, sorry to crash your board... but is the video you all are talking about the one that starts out with the girl getting rush flyer and ends with the playing of the forrest gump suite and has the words.... believe in theta flas across the screen at the end ?? There was a link to it in a thread once and I thought it was MARVELOUS if it's the same video...

kiteflyerzl 02-06-2004 08:29 AM

The original video

The original video that came from HQ was only a black background and the words that changed with the music. Some chapters may have edited it into their recruitment videos.
