I know...that's sounds kinda bootleggish. Hell, it is BET though. They'll probably stretch it into a 3-hour show too! :D

Questions404 11-11-2003 10:03 AM

When is it going to end?

Vibe Awards, Source Awards, BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards . . . all of them, the same awards, the same people, the same mess, the same gawdy clothes, the same shout-outs . . . ugh!! I won't be watching. BET/UPN = same thing.

CTFU. CTFU. CTFU. But I agree with the rolleyes. I kind of doubt that being a "video vixen" requires any sort of acting talent.

One of the video vixens (LaShonte Heckard) is my cousin. Not trying to sound bias but she’s an honor student in college and she’s also in the military. Tae is a sweet and intelligent young lady who has a lot of respect for herself (trust me my uncle doesn’t play). Not only was she in the Busta video she was also featured in both of Dru Hill’s latest videos.

Exactly! I will NOT be watching this! I refuse to watch shows where sistas choose to shake a little a#$ for some cash! Why do we tune in to see this garbage?? THis is going to cause many other misdirected young girls to wan't to be video ho's!

I thought the Council of Presidents were supposed to be boycotting BET (that's all of the BGLO presidents if you don't know) What happened to that??

CrimsonTide4 11-20-2003 11:28 AM

The AWARDS are not on BET; they are on UPN.

maybe it'll start a lil something like this....

UHH First and foremost I'd like to thank God...because without him none of this would be possible

I wanna thank the producers for allowing me to be a positive role model for all the young women out there

Questions404 11-20-2003 12:35 PM

Of course, she is going to start off thanking God and then she is going to thank her parents and all of the people that helped her get to the pinnacle of the video world. Pathetic.

50 Cent Cashes in at First Vibe Awards

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - 50 Cent scored three awards at the inaugural Vibe Awards Thursday night, receiving statuettes for artist of the year, dopest album ("Get Rich or Die Tryin"') and hottest hook ("In Da Club").

The rapper headed a winners' circle that included double honorees Beyonce Knowles (news) and Jay-Z. The ceremony, which took place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, airs Friday night as a two-hour special on UPN, hosted by Queen Latifah. Beyonce was named most stylish, while she and Jay-Z earned kudos for coolest collaboration ("Crazy in Love"). Jay-Z also received the TuBig Award. One of the evening's four special presentations, the award honors the legacy of late rappers Tupac Shakur (news) and Biggie "The Notorious B.I.G." Smalls.

Pharrell Williams, who led the field with five nominations, took home the tightest team players award for his work with partner Chad Hugo in N*E*R*D and the Neptunes. Winner of the "next" award for new artists was Joe Budden, while Missy Elliott claimed reelest video with "Work It." The one-time-only VX Award went to Russell Simmons in recognition of his pioneering efforts in hip-hop.

Among the performers were OutKast, Chingy with Ludacris, Mary J. Blige (news) with Eve, 50 Cent and G-Unit, Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz, Loon, Alicia Keys (news) and R. Kelly. Adding to the show's non-traditional vibe were mini fashion shows spotlighting designs by Enyce, Ecko, Phat Farm/Baby Phat and Sean Jean.

The Vibe magazine editorial staff determined nominations; a panel of music journalists and entertainment executives selected the winners for every category except the "next" award, which was chosen by online voting.

I hope that your cousin wins. I think that she is really pretty. I recall both videos and she didn't have her T & A hanging out in either. That's ALWAYS a plus. She has my vote. The rest of them can go and sit down somewhere.

1. A.J. Johnson is really cut! I may need to cop that workout DVD that she has out. It is amazing that all of these women no longer look like the "typical" 30+ year old. I know that she is up there in age. Regina King looks nice also.

2. What the HAYLE does 3LW have on?

3. Kimora Lee Simmons is my girl.

4. Diddy will ALWAYS win the fashion award HANDS DOWN!

5. Eve looks like a bootleg majorette in that outfit. Her fashion sense is horrible most of the time.

6. Andre 3000 DEFINITELY deserves to play the role of Jimi Hendrix. He has that look down pat.

7. Shanice doesn't have to do anything else besides bust out all of Flex's babies, huh? They look happy. They seem to be the real thing, like Will and Jada.

COSIGN on all your comments RD!! Isn't this like Flex and Shanice's third kid??? I watched the awards (I know don't say it) but the local UPN channel here was messing up the transmission so I missed the first 15 minutes, including the Andre 3000 performance. I really liked Mary's performance, although they could have done without Eve, as well as Alicia's.

Erratic 11-22-2003 03:02 PM

Only saw a coupla minutes of the show, but I'm looking at these pix and I have a few comments...

Now, HOW in the WORLD did these girls look inthe mirror and think to themselves, "Hey, we look GREAT?" They need to fire their fashion consultant, cuz these outfits are GARBAGE!!
http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com...0031121jpg.jpg

And A.J Johnson is looking great, but it's a lil' much for me, personally.

Queen L looks beautiful, I think

WTH??? I mean, I like both their music, and I think they're both talented young ladies, but the outfit choices are "funky", to say the least!

Aww, black love...Isn't it great?? They look so happy!!

OK, guys, I'm sorry if this took too much space!

I'm not really big on AJ's look. I don't know, maybe I expect for her to still look the way she did when my cousin went to school with her or when she came back to her alma mater to lead master classes or attend other events. I don't think it is an age thing either; there are several stars who have embraced this fitness pageant look (push-up bra tops, low-rider pants, dyed hair). I guess I just prefer a more natural, softer look.

I am a complete fitness fanatic and I still have to agree. I say this because although she looks "health" meaning she probably eats "right," exercises, etc., I can't help but think it also looks fake. Looking at her face, I see the LL Cool J syndrome/Vivica Fox (I still stand by my assertion that he has had work done IN ADDITI)N to the weight loss). She looks like she had work done. She was on her way in Baby Boy to the ultra buff/fit look but she has really done a lot. Abs look good, though.

They really caught Mary at the wrong time! With the belly over the belt. Not saying there is anything wrong with a roll, I got like three of them myself.

I agree. I thought he had too. I think I mentioned that in a post when his video for "Love You Better" came out. Looks like her (AJ) nose has gone under the knife.

Queen Latifah looks very nice, although her gear is a lil' bit peasant/rocker chick for me. I'm glad that she looks a solid 14-16 or so. I can relate.

Thanks RD. She was worried about my Grandmothers reaction to the Busta Video (the Jacuzzi scene) but after my Grandmother was like "all they showed was your back" she was ok. She didn't win. The lady from Jay-Z's "Excuse Me Miss" won. Thinking back she didn't have all her T & A hanging out either.

Not that I am in favor of someone winning an award for "appearing" in a video, but i have to make one point. Some of these women did not shake anything in the video. They were just the female featured.
