Al Sharpton to Host 'Saturday Night Live'
33 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Democrat Al Sharpton, whose one-liners and pointed rhetoric have added laughs to the presidential campaign, will host "Saturday Night Live (news - Y! TV)" next month.

Sharpton will host the Dec. 6 show, which also will feature Pink as the musical guest. It could be a natural fit for the preacher, who often uses humor to promote his long-shot candidacy and is known to crack up his rivals during debates.

"He said he was actually — for the first time — nervous," said Sharpton spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger.

Other political figures who have appeared on the show include Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, Jesse Jackson and former Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites).

Although none of Sharpton's rivals for the Democratic nomination have been on, at least three have been depicted. Actors playing John Kerry (news - web sites), John Edwards and Joe Lieberman (news - web sites) courted a real Gore for the vice presidency during Gore's appearance on the show last year.

Babyperson Harry Letterman born

Letterman, Girlfriend Have Baby Boy
Nov 4, 7:51 PM EST

Associated Press

David Letterman is a daddy.

Letterman's girlfriend, Regina Lasko, delivered a baby boy late Monday night. He weighed in at 9 pounds, 11 inches and is 21 inches long, Letterman announced on his show Tuesday night.

"I could never imagine ever being a part of something that turned out this beautiful," Letterman said, according to a transcript from "Late Show," which is taped earlier in the day.

Letterman, 56, said the baby — his first child — is named after his father, Harry Joseph Letterman, who died at 57.

"So God bless dad and God bless Harry," Letterman said.

The talk show host joked: "I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have done this. First thing I took him home and dangled him over the balcony," a reference to pop star Michael Jackson briefly dangling one of his children over a balcony.

Bandleader Paul Shaffer had filled in for Letterman as host of the "Late Show" Monday night when Lasko went into labor. Tom Keaney, spokesman for Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, said he didn't know where the baby was born.

The show Tuesday night included a Top Ten list of reason's why Letterman was excited to be a father. The No. 1 reason: There is now tangible evidence that I have had sex.

4-1-1 ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 3RD, 2003

Last week was not a good one for singer Lionel Richie. Lionel's second wife, Diane, has filed for divorce. Diane has reportedly taken up with a plastic surgeon from Argentina. Lionel and Diane were married for seven years and they have two children ages 9 and 5. Diane cited "irreconcilable differences" in her divorce papers. Sources say the marriage has been on the rocks for a while as Lionel struggles to get his career back on track. He has not had a hit in years. Back in the 80's Lionel could do no wrong. He had the magic touch with the hit songs and awards. Lionel was on top of the world and then he made headlines when it was revealed he was cheating on his first wife, his childhood sweetheart, Brenda Richie. Lionel had started having an affair with Diane and Brenda found out about. Brenda beat up Lionel and Diane, and the beat down made headlines around the world. Lionel soon divorced Brenda and married Diane. Lionel and Diane are now going to battle it out over his fortune and a $40 million Beverly Hills mansion. Lionel has also been dealing with his troubled older daughter. Nicole Richie was busted for heroin possession earlier this year and she has been ordered to go into rehab. Next month, you can check out Nicole on the Fox reality series, Real Life. The show is about rich girls who are forced to live on a farm. The show was shot before she was sentenced. Nicole is the adopted daughter of Lionel and his first wife, Brenda. Nicole is a hard partying girl who is known as a wild child on the party circuit.

Think you know everything about Whitney Houston? Well get ready for a new unauthorized biography on Whitney...her transition from "Pop Princess" to "Pothead." The book talks about her close relationship with former top aide, Robyn Crawford. Were Whitney and Robyn lovers? James Robert Parish wrote the book and he says Whitney's public persona was just a creation by mentor, Clive Davis. He says she was not the sweet innocent prom girl he created and that the truth came out when she married Bobby Brown. In the book he compares Whitney to another substance-abused diva, the late Judy Garland. Parish says he thinks Whitney will make a comeback and reclaim her career. Whitney will be releasing a holiday album next month. One of the cuts includes a duet she does with her daughter, Bobbi Christina. The song is a remake of "The Little Drummer Boy."

The latest issue of Playboy Magazine talks about the murder of Jam Master J. Jam Master Jay, of the rap group Run DMC, died in a shooting a year ago and his killer has not been caught. The Playboy article claims Jay was murdered in a drug deal gone bad. They claim Jay was involved in arranging drug deals and he owed his supplier money. According to the article when Jay couldn't come up with $200,000, he was murdered. Jay's family has denied this claim and they have hired a private detective to solve the case.

Rock icon David Bowie and his wife, supermodel Iman, have been named the new spokespeople for Tommy Hilfiger Fashions.

So how close are Nicole Kidman and rocker Lenny Kravitz? The newly engaged couple is close to buying a $21 million, five story, 21-room New York townhouse. Nicole is currently starring in the movie The Human Stain with Sir Anthony Hopkins'.

Director Spike Lee is having problems on the set of his new movie, She Loves Me. Spikes wants to work with certain actors, but they don't want to work with him. Rosario Dawson starred in two of Spike's movies He Got Game and The 25th Hour, but she opted to do an Oliver Stone movie instead. Spike was furious because he helped to put her on the map. Tony Award winning actor Jeffrey Wright also dropped out of the movie after clashing with Spike. Rapper/actor Mos Def also pulled out of the movie. Could it be Spikes attitude?

There will be no Jinx for Halle Berry. Halle was supposed to star in the James Bond inspired movie based on her popular character in the Bond movie Die Another Day, but producers decided to shelve the project.

Mariah Carey is now being managed by Benny Medina. Benny is the media mogul who made Jennifer Lopez a star, and now he is gearing up to take Mariah Carey to another level. The first thing he had Mariah do was ditch her plans to write a tell-all biography. Benny told her she has more living to do before she decides to do that. Benny was able to get movie deals, clothing lines and numerous endorsements for J-Lo. Can he do the same for Mariah? Mariah's got the voice but at times she comes across like a nutcase.

P. Diddy Is Named Athlete of the Week
36 minutes ago

INDIANAPOLIS - Perhaps Sean "P. Diddy" Combs should consider running full-time.

USA Track & Field selected the 34-year-old hip-hop mogul as its Athlete of the Week Tuesday after he completed the New York City Marathon and raised $2 million for charity.

Combs, running in his first marathon, completed the race in 4 hours, 14 minutes, 54 seconds Sunday. He trained two months for the race and ran with an injured right knee.

Major donors to Combs' cause included New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, rapper Jay-Z, Ben Affleck (news) and Jennifer Lopez (news).

Combs plans to split the money among New York City's public school system, the Children's Hope Foundation and Daddy's House Social Programs, which are two children's advocate groups.

"We set a bar and we crushed that bar," Combs said. "This is just a start. This wasn't a publicity stunt."

MONTEL CAUGHT WITH WEED: Airports are just not celebrity-friendly.

Montel
(Nov. 6, 2003) *It's been recently discovered that motivational speaker and television talk show host Montel Williams has succumbed to the evil demon weed.
Of all places, Williams came through Detroit Metropolitan Airport with his stash and was fined $100 by authorities.

The Detroit News reported that Williams, who has multiple sclerosis, has been prescribed medicinal marijuana for treatment of the disease.

"He has prescriptions for many different medications for MS," a statement on his behalf read. "One of the medications he has been prescribed to alleviate his chronic pain is medical marijuana."

Monday night, the 47-year-old talk show host-actor paid the fine and left Michigan.

P.S. I have always believed that Lionel looked like a horse of course. :p

They were talking about Montel on the Doug Banks show this morning. What I don't understand is this: If having a prescription for 'medicinal' marijuana legitimizes it, why did he still have to pay the fine? :confused:

BASICALLY!!!

~ Actor Dondre Whitfield (“Hidden Hills”), who seems to have a new series on television every seasonLOLOLOLOL, has landed a role in Vivica A. Fox’s "Beauty Shop." The film, which also stars Darrin Dewitt Henson (“Soul Food”), Kym E. Whitley (“Deliver Us From Eva”), Monica Calhoun (“The Brothers”) and Garrett Morris (“Martin”), is currently shooting in Baltimore. Whitfield will play a smooth-talking hairdresser and ladies man in the comedy, which was written and is being directed by Mark Brown. Vivica has ditched the weave and opted for a flattering, short, Halle Berry-like cut in the movie.

Can’t Say Names: I hear that a Hollywood comedienne recently walked off of the set of the movie she is starring in because the producer’s money was funny. Sources say that the Hollywood bigwig who was financing said entertainer’s film was bouncing checks bigger than basketballs. I’m told the comedienne told Mr. Megabucks that until he could pay with cash, she wouldn’t be back. Me thinks Mo'nique

There are rumors circulating that a certain neo-soul singer is talking retirement. Said singer is said to be tired of the music business and wants to pursue other ventures. I guess only time will tell if her next release, which is scheduled to bow early next year, sees the light of day.
Just don't say JILL SCOTT and I will be cool.

~~~ Things That Make You Say Hmmm!?!: Looks like “All Of Us” star LisaRaye McCoy’s memory isn’t too smooth. Yesterday, New York Daily News columnist Lloyd Grove ran an item that mentioned that the actress had griped to Sister 2 Sister magazine editor-in-chief Jamie Foster Brown about King magazine bumping her from the cover for singer Mya.
"I did a hell of a shoot with them. At the last minute, they put Mya on the cover. I had turned down Smooth [magazine] because I was doing King,” said LisaRaye in the interview.
Well, I just happen to be Smooth’s entertainment editor and recall things a little differently. I can unequivocally say that LisaRaye at no point ever turned Smooth down. We never even extended an offer to her to be in the magazine. Her people contacted us! We were actually negotiating a Beyonce Knowles cover with the film studio responsible for “The Fighting Temptations.” At the last minute, that cover didn’t materialize and LisaRaye’s camp called begging for the cover since King ditched her. The timing worked out for both parties, and we ran with it.
That issue came out in September and featured my controversial interview with LisaRaye complaining that she was sick of being seen as a Hollywood home wrecker. In case you didn’t catch that article, LisaRaye discussed having been romantically linked to both single and married men like Michael Jordan, Jalen Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Gary Payton of the L.A. Lakers, among others.
"I wish I would have caught [Jordan] before [his wife] Juanita's ass did! [Rose] made it known that he liked me and wanted to date me. But to me, that doesn't mean anything,” she said. “Me and [Iverson] ain't ever been together. I guess people just want to link me up with all of the damn athletes huh? They want to put me with all of the people that got some money, but let them be available though!"
I just hope her recollection of those relationships is better than this whole magazine cover issue. LOLOLOLOLOLOL
MORE ABOUT PRINCE
Pious Prince: My friend C.J., a columnist in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune, is the one who broke the hilarious story about the artist known again as Prince and his recent door-knocking Jehovah’s Witness pitching. A bunch of outlets picked up on the story, including Rush & Molloy of the New York Daily News, and failed to credit C.J. For those who missed the story or didn’t hear me report it on the Doug Banks Morning Show, I’ll recap it for you.
A few weeks back, Prince was out proselytizing for Jehovah's Witnesses on a Sunday afternoon in a town called Eden Prairie, Minn. Prince visited a woman, who preferred to be identified only as Rochelle, said, "Door bell rings. My husband runs upstairs and says, 'Prince is at the door!' I said, 'No way.' " Even though this was an inopportune time, they let in the man who introduced himself at "Prince Nelson" and another man.” She was speaking of famed bassist Larry Graham of Graham Central Station.
"This is Sunday at about 2 p.m. And it's the night of Yom Kippur,” remembered Rochelle. “My first thought is 'Cool, cool, cool. He wants to use my house for a set. I'm glad! Demolish the whole thing! Start over!' Then they start in on this Jehovah's Witnesses stuff. I said, 'You know what? You've walked into a Jewish household, and this is not something I'm interested in.' He says, ‘Can I just finish?’ Then the other guy, Larry Graham, gets out his little Bible and starts reading scriptures about being Jewish and the land of Israel. They stayed for about 25 minutes. Left us a pamphlet."
Prince didn’t offer any autographs or anything. “He was very kind,” Rochelle added. “We watched him leave. Outside is a big black truck with a woman, long dark hair, in the front seat and they left." The woman met the general description of Prince's supposed wife, Manuella. Rochelle seemed perplexed that Prince didn't seem to stop at any other houses in her neighborhood. "They go door-to-door. Walking. He wasn't walking. He was driving. It was so bizarre. You would have just laughed," she said.
Rochelle also admitted that the perfect esprit d'escalier came after Prince left. "If I showed up at Paisley [Park], would you let me in your front door to talk about Judaism," she pondered.
Just when C.J. was done reporting on Symbolina, as she calls the flamboyant singer, she was bombarded with e-mails and calls from Jehovah's Witnesses who explained why Prince visited a house in Eden Prairie, then got in an automobile and left. They explained that Prince was probably visiting an address that had been missed earlier. "Well, looking at your picture, I'm going, 'Cute,'" said a caller named Greg. "Please remember that Prince is just the messenger trying to give out information, along with Mr. [Larry] Graham. Apparently you thought it was funny. I don't get it, but you should get this: God does not like ugly, and he's not too crazy about cute, either. Check yourself."
If God doesn’t like ugly, I wonder what he thinks of Prince writing that song “Billy Jack B!tch” about C.J.?
(Nov. 4, 2003) Meet Blondielocks: Former “Living Single” and “Facts of Life” star Kim Fields is making the transition from Hollywood actress to recording artist. Though Kim and her blond dreadlocks and Bohemian-sheik attire fit perfectly into the whole neo-soul movement, singing isn’t her medium of choice. Kim has instead opted for spoken word, the ever-growing genre becoming increasingly popular with shows like HBO’s “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry.”
Last week, the bright-smiled actress had a listening party for her latest spoken word release, “Smooth Is Spoken Here,” at the Top Room of the Marina City Club in Marina Del Rey, Calif. Kim performed at the sexy affair and was joined by acclaimed jazz musician Najee. Spoken word artist CoCo Brown also performed, as did “Cosby” kid Malcolm-Jamal Warner who strummed his bass and delivered poetry of his own. Among the others who attended the intimate party included former “A Different World” star Dawnn Lewis, theater actress Maia Madison, Kim’s younger sister, actress Alexis Fields, and “Entertainment Tonight” producer Monica Moore.
The inspiration for this spoken word meets jazz collection came only about two months ago for Kim. “I was in IKEA actually, and I was like, ‘I really love smooth jazz, and I really love the consistency of the audience in smooth jazz. I love that they’re grown folks and that they really support that genre,’” giggled Kim. To convince me, she pulled out her IKEA brochure where she began jotting down lyrics to her first piece and brainstorming concepts for the CD in the store.
This music venture has taken Kim, whose musical nickname is Blondielocks, from the comforts of a controlled television studio audience and placed her in front of live concert crowds. This year Kim has been regularly appearing on the jazz festival circuit, performing in lounges, and even appeared at the Essence Music Festival and on the Tom Joyner Morning Show Cruise. “I’m connecting with the audience on a different level,” explained Kim, as we sat outdoors at Priscilla’s, a coffeehouse in Burbank, Calif. “It’s a different medium. With doing spoken word, I‘m not a character. I‘m very much me. It‘s probably the most naked that I‘ve been and the most purist sense of me. It‘s very revealing.”
While music is her outlet of choice for the moment, Kim hasn’t abandoned Hollywood. The seasoned actress and director can not only be heard on the single “Mocha Soul” by the group Impromp2, she also appears in and directed the accompanying music video.
Music is in Kim’s blood. Her mother is veteran actress Chip Fields (“Good Times”/“Living Single“) is a consultant on shows like “The Parkers,” as well as a musician herself. “Mom plays piano by ear. I don’t play by ear, but like her, I can hear it,” said Kim. “Because I am able to hear it, I can completely articulate to a musician or a producer what it is I am hearing. The feel of this, the harmony here, or just under or over. It’s fun for them that I am not fully in their lingo and that they’re playing things that they wouldn’t normally play.”
While Kim can hear music, she doesn’t play a single instrument. But she wouldn’t be herself if she allowed a little issue like that stifle her creativity. “I said to the two producers on this project, Earl and Gary, ‘I want to do this particular song all by myself.’ It’s called “Being Your Woman.” I wanted them to just engineer,” laughed Kim. The actress actually played the track for me in my car before we left Priscilla’s, and her lack of musicianship in no way hindered the message she attempted to convey.
Though it seems that actors always want to be musicians, and vice versa, Kim feels quite at home in her new genre. “I don’t feel like a fish out of water. I don’t feel like a foreigner, and I don’t feel like some celebrity that’s trying to do this now because it’s the trend. It’s something that is definitely from deep within, and it’s just another place that I am sharing from,” said Kim. “Just like when I am acting, certainly some of the things that I put into characters come from different places within me that I am choosing to share to create and breathe life into this character. It’s the same thing [with the music].”
One of Kim’s driving forces to continue on her musical journey has been the encouragement of musicians like Najee. “Musicians whom I really respect and admire and love, [and] their interest and desire to work on the project has been one of the biggest compliments to me. I’m coming into their world, and I’m being embraced. That’s a great feeling,” she smiled.
In addition to promoting “Smooth Is Spoken Here,” Kim is already readying her next release called “Uninhibited.” It’s hip-hop, it’s jazz, it’s R&B, and it’s neo-soul, and all the music that we all love. I got a tribute to Doug E. Fresh, there’s some stuff that’s political, some stuff that’s sensual, and some stuff that’s just fun,” shared Kim.
I couldn’t let Kim leave without asking her why she didn’t appear in the film “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.” “The main thing was availability. But also, in general, I truly, truly shy away from anything that deals with ‘former child star.’ There are certain images that I am not going to escape no matter how hard I try. I’ve played a killer. I’ve played a mouthy storeowner who gets shot. I’ve played the sassy, single gal in the city, and I’ve played a widowed mom. I’ve done a lot and people respond to all of it, but they’ll say, ‘But you’ll always be Tootie.’ People think, ’Oh she hates the “Facts of Life” and don’t call her Tootie.’ It’s not that I hate it. My God, it was a part of my life, too, for nine years of me growing up. The best example I could give would be, if you had that aunt, that grandma, grandpa, uncle or whoever that gave you whatever your nickname was as a child. Now you’re a grown-ass man and might have four kids, a degree [and] two houses. You’re grown, and yet when you go home, you’re still lil’ so-and-so. I’ve moved on. I guess I am just a little leery of anything that might take me backwards,” she concluded.
For information on how to purchase Kim’s CDs, her concert dates, or where she may be popping up next on television, visit her online at http://www.KimFields.net
Arrested Development's Name Claim
Fri Nov 7,12:30 AM ET Add Entertainment - E! Online to My Yahoo!
By Lia Haberman
Arrested Development is:
And the answer is to be determined in court.
Pioneering hip-hop ensemble Arrested Development has filed a trademark-infringement suit against Fox claiming ownership of the moniker, which the network is using for one of its new series.
Filed October 16 in Georgia's DeKalb County Superior Court, the suit claims that use of the name by Fox is "not only confusing to the public but also has the potential to significantly dilute what thename means to our fans."
In a statement, AD frontman Todd "Speech" Thomas added, "Fox has no more right to use Arrested Development for its show than a band would have to name itself after one of Fox's sitcoms."
In its defense, the network invoked its First Amendment right to use the title that it calls "a commonplace expression as well as an established psychological condition that reflect the central theme of the series," said a statement released on Wednesday.
Arrested Development "is wholly different from and has nothing whatsoever to do with the musicians using the same name," continued the statement.
Both parties are on a fact-finding mission before they present their arguments at a preliminary relief hearing.
Fox was involved in a similar source of litigation in the early '90s when the rock group Living Colour filed suit and ultimately settled its case against the network for use of their name for the show In Living Color.
Arrested Development, the series, comes from the brain trust of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. The critically embraced dysfunctional family sitcom, which airs Sunday nights, stars Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor and Portia de Rossi. The show debuted last week to 8 million viewers, making it Nielsens' 66th-ranked show.
Also named in the suit are Howard and Grazer's shingle, Imagine Films Entertainment Inc., and New World Communications of Atlanta Inc.
Arrested Development, the two-time Grammy winning collective, released the hugely successful debut album, 3 Years, 5 Months, and 2 Days in the Life Of, in 1992 with such socially conscious hit singles "Tennessee," "People Everyday" and "Mr. Wendal."
Follow-up albums failed to recapture the success of its first release and the group split up in 1995. Arrested Development reunited last year and is working on a new album, titled Among the Trees, scheduled for release in early 2004.
Kim SINGING? Does anyone remember her ode to Michael Jackson, "Dear Michael"? She even had the nerve to perform it on Soul Train in the EARLY 80s or LATE 70s. :eek:
Ummmmmm, keep one of your hustles, Kim. :o
I wonder if the NEO soul singer is India Arie? :confused:
Okay, are they saying that Chip Fields, her mother, was an actress on both "Good Times" and "Living Single"? If so, what part did she play? :confused:
I remember her taking that ironing cord to Penny. That's embedded in my memory. I remember Penny pleading " Please Mama, don't, I'll be good". One of the best episodes. That's right up there with "Damn, Damn, Damn."
See, now I'm having flashbacks of that episode. :(
Another Rapper Shooting
They just refuse to grow up...
Rapper Tray Deee Arrested in California
Sun Nov 9, 9:34 AM ET
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Rapper Tray Deee, a member of the hip-hop group Tha Eastsidaz, was in custody Saturday after being arrested for allegedly shooting at people outside of a business, police said.
No one was injured and the 37-year-old rapper, whose given name is Tray Muhammad, was arrested at his Fontana home Friday several hours after the alleged shooting, said Officer Jana Blair of the Long Beach Police Department.
He was booked for felony assault with a deadly weapon and was being held in the city jail with bail set at $50,000.
There was little information on the shooting's circumstances, Blair said.
"Someone fired a handgun in the direction of individuals in front of an establishment. Someone identified him as a possible suspect," she said.
An investigation was underway and detectives expected to present evidence Wednesday to the Los Angeles district attorney's office, which will decide if charges should be filed.
Muhammad formed Tha Eastsidaz with rappers Snoop Dogg and Goldie Loc. The group has released two albums.
Lil' Kim Live$ Large!
At 4-foot-11, rapper Lil' Kim (nee' Kimberly Jones) is short on height--but big on luxury. The diminutive diva's jaw-dropping indulgences are detailed in the VH1 special The Fabulous Life of: Lil' Kim.
To match her collection of over 100 fur coats (including a $120,000 full-length chinchilla), Kim has 10 mink cellphone cases at $300 each.
Kim's manicurist charges up to $5,000 a day to wrap her tips in shredded $100 bills.
Kim's diamond bling includes $19,000 dog tags and a 12-carat $150,000 ring.
During a one-day shopping spree in Japan, Kim dropped $40,000 on clothes --and Barbie dolls.
Her white convertible Mercedes -- tricked out with imported leather, hand-applied logos and five TV monitors -- cost $135,000, plus an estimated $20,000 for the extras.
I'm speechless - wrap her nails in shredded $100 bills???????? Why do people act so crazy. She could give that money to me or a charity and she won't miss it.
And how is she still so rich if she spends her money so quickly? I don't think any of her albums did phenomenally well but I might be wrong.
And 5 monitors in a convertible? - 2 for the people in front (which is dangerous), 2 for the backseat riders, and then the 5th for what? - the trunk?? the hood?? where else would you put one:confused:
c'est vraiment fou
es la vida loca
OK...That's freaking wasteful.:mad: :mad: :mad: How about giving back to your community? How about putting that money back in the 'hood that you came from?
Maybe P Diddy needs to teach her a few things about giving back.
I was really disappointed that the media made an issue of Montel Williams and his prescription. It is a known fact that the man is dealing with a chronic illness, but they are making it seem like he was just a random guy trying to smoke weed on vacation. I'd be really hurt if I were him.
Kim Fields is actually really good in her spoken word performances. I'm not sure of her singing, but she'd do well with the spoken word.
Rapper Who Cannibalized Roommate Gets Life Sentence
POSTED: 10:25 PM PST November 7, 2003
COMPTON, Calif. -- An aspiring rapper convicted of killing his roommate and eating part of her lung was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the district attorney's office said.
Superior Court Judge Jack Morgan also imposed a consecutive life sentence on Antron Singleton, 27, convicted in June of murder and aggravated mayhem for the April 2002 slaying of Tynisha Ysais.
Ysais, a mother of two, was found stabbed to death in the southeast Los Angeles apartment she shared with Singleton. Testimony showed that the 21-year-old woman's chest had been cut open and her right lung, which had been removed, appeared chewed and torn.
Singleton, whose stage name was Big Lurch, was arrested after he was spotted walking naked on a street with his mouth, chest and abdomen covered in blood. He had recently moved from Texas to Los Angeles and was recording a rap album.
Singleton had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and his lawyer, Milton Grimes, argued his client was in a psychotic state induced by the drug PCP at the time of the murder. The court, however, ruled in September that Singleton's drug use at the time of the crime did not diminish his responsibility for it.
