Diets
What diets do you use and has it worked for you? How much did you lose?
|
You should try the water diet. I don't recommend eating anything with it.

Funny but true.

I watch what i eat, beign a diabetic my diet consists of low fat, fat free, sugar free, or reduced sugar items. I also avoid fast food whenever possible and when i cant watch where and what I order. I also am mindful of serving sizes and how much fat and calories are in each serving. Then I never eat pork, and ground beef is extra lean, and I cut excess fat of chicken, and never eat the fat on a steak. I also cook with either olive oil, or fat free Pam cooking spray.....I'm also mindful of ingredients in particularly "hydrogenated" and "partially hydrogenated" oils due to trans fats(fat that is not usually accounted for in the fat content on the labels)
I also drink only skim milk, water, and 100% fruit/vegetable juices.(also again being mindful of serving sizes, except with water). I lost 4 pounds in water when I cut out soft drinks alone in my diet. I also take a multi-vitamin and lots of exercise, and I try to put more physical activity in my day for example, taking teh longer way to class, parking far from the front door of a store, taking the stairs when it's three floors or less(unless i'm feeling fat that day and i'll take all the stairs) etc. |
forgot something
Also, when you eat especially out to eat where they give you larger than normal portions anyway, eat till you arent hungry anymore and not until you are full. Take what's left over with you home and eat it for the next meal or later on then you dont feel guilty about wasting food. PLUS you feel better knowing you didnt pig out and you dont have the "god I feel so fat, why did I eat all that food?" feeling.

The Workout Diet.
It is really cool...
All you have to do is raise your heartrate or an hour a day... by working out (anyway you want). Eat whatever you want at a sensible level. The pounds melt away. I am being 100% serious. |
i just dont supersize my meals
|
I've mostly cut out the really bad stuff like sweets, chips, etc, and I don't eat out too much. I've been doing it for almost 11 months now and I've lost about 20 lbs. I don't stick to it as well as I could, but overall I do. What worked for me the best is I weigh myself every day and write it down. That way, I know if I need to cut back more on a particular day or if I'm ok and can treat myself. This also worked for my husband, who has lost 45 lbs. Good luck!

Although not diabetic I have chosen the sugarfree diet as well. This means no refined sugars and no "white" carbs meaning that I only eat whole wheat breads, brown rice, no white potatoes - only sweet potatoes... It is slow going for about the 1st month then the weight just starts dropping off.
I used sugarbusters as a reference although I am not quote as militant. Also, Suzanne Sommers' sommersizing diet is quite close. So far I have lost about 20 pounds. My goal is another 10, but 15 would be better (would ensure that size 4 I want to get back down to...) |
I'm on the Dance Dance Revolution diet-eating right and playing Dance Dance Revolution. I lost a lot of weight over the summer doing it.
|
I do not eat meat but I do eat seafood. I never go out to fast food places and I dance and work out but I can't lose that last five pounds. I need help.

I hate this thread. It keeps reminding me that I really ought to be dieting!!!!
|
Diets don't work.
You have to modify the way you eat. That might be a matter of choosing smaller portions or cutting down on sugar or whatever, but if you only change how you eat for a limited period of time and then go right back to it after you lose your weight you will gain it all back and then some guaranteed. |
THis is really close to how I eat, except now that I am not trying to lose any more weight I will keep the skin on my chicken thanks! I don't eat dark meat so I don't think it's that bad. I try to get in at least two servings of fish/week- lots of steamed or broiled catfish and salmon. I also supplement a lot with protein shakes- usually two every day at 20g of protein and 100 calories per serving. I avoid juice and milk- mostly water and the occasional Fresca but that's about it. LOTS of whole wheat bread and vegetables.
Of late I have allowed myself bacon as an occasional treat. When I have it I just try to adjust my meals for the rest of the day to account for it. I will have a smaller lunch or sauteed veggies for dinner to make up for it. I posted my workout on another thread, but I get to the gym three times a week minimum- two days of weights and a serious dance class (although I am going to up it to two now- one bellydance and one African). Well you could go the more unhealthy way.......which is what I have been known to do in my past eventhough I was warned and warned by doctors not to......diet pills. I used Xenadrine Ephedra Free, at half the recommended daily dose, along with everythign else I mentioned previously. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. |

Basically what you need to do is start working your body in a different way. It's going to be tough, but that's the only way to drop those last 5 pounds us women complain about. Try different cardio exercises, switch up your weight-lifting routine, and REALLY make an effort to watch what you eat. I'm not a HUGE fan of suppliments, because some of them are scary, but often a suppliment (WHEN USED CORRECTLY) can help. Water is a MUST or else you will be dehydrated....plus if you switch from soda to water you will lose the water weight from the soda. |
I have started eating clean. No processed foods; it is suggested that you do 98% of your grocery shopping on the outskirts of the store (where all of the meats/veggies/fruits are). I eat a lot of lean protein, and five/six meals a day of about 500 calories each. Not really a diet, but it's what I picked up from reading eating hints in Oxygen magazine.

Thanks everyone! :)

My husband quit drinking pop completely and he has lost 35 pounds since May.

After an Atkins crash-and-burn experience (gained it back as fast as I lost it when I slipped and ate a tiny amount of carbs) I decided it was time to get serious about loosing weight for the wedding. I joined Weight Watchers last week. I've lost 5 lbs since starting.
It's retarded easy. You get X points a day. Figure out how many points foods are worth, use your points. You also get 35 flex points to use over the week. Nothing is forbidden; its all in how you want to "spend" your points It's basically focusing on portion control and filling up on veggies (which are zero point) foods. I'm 5 lbs lighter and I had pizza for dinner twice last week. Sounds good to me :) |
I've been doing Atkins these past few weeks, and doing pretty well on it.
Some of the important points of Atkins are: - You must drink your water. - You must exercise. - You must eat your allotted carbs. It's lowcarb, not no-carb. - You must accept that you're going to be eating lowcarb for the rest of your life (the maintenance plan). Atkins is a way of life, not a quick-fix diet. But that's really not so different from lowfat, or low-calorie, or WW, etc. No matter what plan you choose, if you start stuffing your face with the "wrong" things, you're going to gain the weight back. If you only have a few pounds to lose, though, I would suggest instead just cutting out simple sugars and white flour, cutting down on your portion sizes, and getting out and exercising. For a lot of people, that does the trick. |
This might sound ridiculous, but when I was in a similar situation (trying to lose just a few pounds), I ate regularly but always left some of my meal on my plate - I think I got the idea from some prescription diet pill, but if you leave a little of your meal (i.e. eat slowly and stop eating when you're full!) it really does add up and make a huge difference.

i totally agree with some of the things you said, but let's face it moderation is the key, combined with diet and exercise and of course drinking lots of water. I've tried to limit my intake of fatty foods-but still splurge now and then. I actually have gotten into working out mid morning after class and then I eat healthy the rest of the day. My fav is the new BK chicken baguette, only 4 grams of fat-leaving me feeling without the least bit of guilt:) LOVE IT!
|
I used to eat 3 pizzas a day
...I would eat large "meat lovers" pizzas for evey meal. No... I am kidding... But I realized I couldn't stuff food down my throat like that and stay fit and trim! So I learned moderation and exercise. Guess what, it works... I still eat a "meat lovers" pizza every once and a while, when Kip Winger pays me a visit, and I am just fine.

i have stopped eatting so much because it was hurting my wallet. i dont have a job so my parents give me money and i was spending almost 500 bucks a month on food. mostly eatting out. but i went to the store and bought a bunch of frozen dinners for like 50 bucks and they last me a month. |
Re: Re: I used to eat 3 pizzas a day
I live in NYC. 500 bucks/month for food is still excessive. What the heck were you buying?
I lost weight when I learned to cook. That was instrumental. Quote:

I used to eat out all but one night, that stuff kills the wallet. And more so when you have a GF. At any rate, 500$ a month is not outrageous. Most people don't live off of chicken breasts. Steaks are expensive, there's been plenty of times when I went shopping for the week and I spent over 150$ for the week. And it was more so when I was on a high Protein diet to help gain muscle mass. but, I do agree though, going shopping for food for the week saves you TONS of $$$ compared to eating out every night.
