I've met a lot of folks:

Bill Clinton

Gina1201 10-20-2003 10:45 PM

I forgot I also met Hillary Clinton. She's much shorter in person than she seems. Since she visits Syracuse quite frequently since she's a senator, I met her one day when she was in one of her many offices. Her Syracuse office is one floor up from mine. She was really nice and all the admin staff got to take a pic. Maybe I'll find my pic and post for all to see.

Dove Gal 10-20-2003 11:23 PM

I met Jimmy Jam and Vivica A. Fox at the Indiana Black Expo in 1999, I got a scholarship from them and they were some of the people that they were honoring.

Also this past weekend I had lunch with DJ Jazzy Jeff from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

All 3 of these people are so down to earth.

nachural 10-21-2003 12:02 AM

Now the Scarsdale chicks were so hyped about being in the front row when we sat down they started introducing themselves to everyone..lol.. and asked Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who they were..lol... I said "Duhhhh they only produced Janet's album" And he smiled and winked at me.... hee hee

oooohhh, I LOVE this topic 'cause it brings back some gooood memories!! I met my favorite artist and future husband MAXWELL twice!! The first time I met him was summer 98 (I think it was 98), the day after Embrya came out. I stood in line for EIGHT hours at his album signing (I was a SERIOUS fan back then), and not only did I get photos and an autograph, but I got a HUG!!! And he smells sooooooooo gooooood!!!!!!!!! The second time I met him was at the Puerto Rican Day parade at the beginning of June 99. I had just crossed a few weeks before, and I was already so happy getting ready to stroll in the parade for the first time with all of my sorors. All of a sudden my dean runs over to me, grabs my hand and starts running. She wouldn't tell me what it was, she just led me to a float, and then, there was MAXWELL, chillin on his float, which was waiting to enter the parade on the same block as us. We actually had a conversation with him for a while, which was nice, and I asked him if I could take a picture with him up on his float, but his idiot bodyguards said no. But it was still great to sit there and chat with him since I had been such a big fan for such a long time. I wonder if he's ever coming out with another album? (guess I should stop calling him my husband if I don't stay updated with such vital info lol)

lovelyivy84 10-21-2003 07:55 AM

I literally ran into Paul Newman on 91st and MAdison a while back. Almost walked right into the man, and then after I said "excuse me" turned to the woman who had seen me do it and went- is that who I thought it was????

I don't know if they count as a celebrity, but I've met Cornell West once and Henry Louis (Skip) Gates a number of times.

TonyB06 10-21-2003 08:59 AM

Because I work on a college campus (lots of speaker series and lecture series, etc...) I've been fortunate to meet a lot of newsmakers.

President Clinton (coolest white dude on the planet. period)
President Ford (this guy is not young)
George F. Will (columnist) (kinda kept to himself.)
Jacob Lawrence (artist.) (Regret I'm wasn't up enough on Black art to truly appreciate his talent when he was here)
Bro. John Hope Franklin (Historian) (along with Clinton, truly a highlight for me. The bruhs hosted a nice reception for him.)
60 Minutes' Ed Bradley (the word cool was invented for dude)
Rev. Calvin O. Butts (Kappa)
Rev. Joseph Lowrery (SCLC)
Rev. Al Sharpton
Linda Chavez (fmr. Sect. of Labor)
Sam Donaldson (ABC News)
Cokie Roberts (ABC News)
Pierre Salinger (JFK Press Secretary)
Martin Luther King III

FeeFee 10-21-2003 09:20 AM

Last year I met Hillary Clinton. She was standing on the corner of 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue. She was supporting a candidate who was running for office (forgot what position). I was more fascinated with her than the guy who was running. lol. She was very gracious and shook everyone's hand. Very cool person. :D

LawyerGal 10-21-2003 03:23 PM

I did PR before my current govt. relations assignment. As such we set up all the media opps. and pre-press/tv events before speeches and such. Funny thing is most of these people are really down-to-earth --- it's their pushy HANDLERS, and AIDES that think they're the isht!

Rev. Butts (KAY) gave a tremendous speech. ...I guess Alpha can't have all the talent. :D

Paradise359 10-21-2003 03:56 PM

I'm noticing a trend here....I'm I the only one who hasn't met Hillary Clinton? lol:)

9dstpm 10-21-2003 06:00 PM

When I was in the 7th grade, my best friend and I were asked to present gifts on behalf of our junior high school's student council to George and Barbara Bush. This was in 1988 when he was VP and was running for pres. Our school was one if his campaign stops.

Next, when I was a freshman in high school, Montel Williams came to our school. This was before he got the talk show. He gave the top students in each class like $20 for good grades and the girl who was most likely going to become valedictorian (this program took place at the beginning of the school year) about $100 or so for her achievements. Then he started asking random questions to people in the audience and he called me and when I got my question right, he gave me $10. :D

Junior year, author Clifton Taulbert (Once Upon a Time When Were Colored) came to my school to promote his book. He is from my hometown and he singled me out as a very good writer and read some of my work from our literary magazine (I was the editor that year as well as asst. editor of the newspaper). This really gave me the push to pursue writing a book eventually. I'm working on that now. ;)

I have also met the following people:

Grant Hill and Tamia
Kid Rock
Colleen Dixon (author)
Jason Richardson (basketball player-Golden State)
DL Hugley
Sugar Ray
Prince

I got to tell this story. This past summer, Hubby, Son and I were flying home from Mississippi after my family reunion. We flew out of Memphis and then switched planes in Chicago before returning to Saginaw. Now, sitting at O'Hare waiting for our plane, Hubby thought he saw Cedric the Entertainer. I look at him and I'm like YEAH RIGHT  I told him that he just wanted see some Kappas since he's one. Hubby swore up and down that he saw Ced. I roll my eyes and tell him to take our son to the bathroom before we get on the plane. On the plane Hubby pointed out this man who looked so scruffy and bummy and wearing sunglasses and said that he thought it was Ced. Now we know that Ced is usually so fresh and so clean so I just gave Hubby this look again and settled in for the flight home. We get off the plane and while Hubby took Son to the bathroom again  the scruffy man passes by me and says, "What up, Greek. You wearing that Delta shirt." I look the man in his eyes and it WAS Cedric the Entertainer. I almost fainted dead away at the airport but composed myself enough to get an autograph, introduce him to Hubby and Son, and tell him that my grandmomma and I had a grand old time laughing at him on Comic View and The Steve Harvey Show the night before. It turned out that he was doing a show at the casino. All the way home, Hubby was like I told you so, Nupes know other Nupes, blah, blah, blah. But I shut him up with who got the autograph though?? :p

Sorry this was so long. I have lots of interesting cleb stories.

This doesn't EEEEEVEN count, but I thought it was a funny story.

When I was in high school, I worked for JC Penney (the only one in Columbia and it's in the 'ghetto' mall). Well anyway, these guys were in my dept (I worked in Men's), looking around and I asked them if I could help them. One of the guys was like, "No, we're fine", but then he came over and decided to spark up a conversation. ALLL of the guys looked like scrubs and I wasn't EVEN interested. Now, my homegirls say I can be quite rude at times (who me ?), and like I said...I wasn't trying to hear it. So the first guy asked me if I knew who the picture of the dude on his shirt was. I said, "No...am I supposed to?" So he says, "That's that man right there!" pointing at one of the other guys in the group. So I was like, "...and he is...?" He says, "Trick Daddy". I say, "Who or what is a 'Trick Daddy'?" He's like, "Aww man, forget that!" and ends the conversation really quick and waves me off. So I tell my homegirl about it and she tells me he is this "new" rapper. I didn't get to excited about it at all, I was just like, "Oh well" Don't you know like 2-3 weeks later, the single Nann' came out and I was jamming off of it when I realized "Damn...so that's Trick Daddy!"

That's my jam too! :D

Mz Destiny 10-23-2003 09:59 PM

Being that I interned for a radio station in college, and have had just plain 'ol fortunate timing, I've met quite a few people. Some were good encounters. Some were not-so-great. Here's the rundown:

Brandy
Aaliyah (RIP)
Gerald LeVert
Tony Terry
Keith Sweat
The Whitehead Brothers
K-Ci and Jo Jo
Brian McKnight
Will Smith ("The Fresh Prince"- I went to high school with his cousin)
Bobby Konders (Remember the reggae song "Mack Daddy"?)
Musiq (saw him in the grocery store)
Rahsaan Patterson (R-N-B singer-we were camp counselors together)
Kobe Bryant (went to school with him and his sisters-I kinda keep this on the low now...lol)
Shanice Wilson (one of the sweetest people I've ever met)
Patra (um um um...no comment!)
?uestlove (Also known as Amir Thompson, the drummer with the pick forever in his 'fro from THE ROOTS)-we used to work at a Telemarketing firm together

I recently ran into that fine-as-may-wine Treach and Vinnie from Naughty By Nature at a rest stop on the PA Turnpike.

I've also met quite a few authors including E. Lynn Harris-my favorite author in the whole wide world!

This past weekend I met Sheryl Underwood-the comedienne (she's a soror!)

I've als met a few gospel artists as well.

That's all for now folks...

TonyB06 10-24-2003 09:04 AM

I think Ms. Destiny has taken over first place with the best "I got it like dat, dis who I know" list.

...although honorable mention props go to 9dstpm cause she met Ced-the-entertainer at 30,000 ft. altitude. :)

Senusret I 10-24-2003 10:31 AM

Amerie (college friend)

Aaron McGruder (Had dinner with him after one of his speaking engagements.)

Saw Lil Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri walking around Georgetown. Wasn't impressed. Actually, they walked right past me, and somebody said "That's JD and his new protoge Bow Wow!" I literally said "and?"

Conskeeted7 10-24-2003 12:53 PM

I met DMX at a comedy club. He was slightly offended when I called him "Mister X" to get his attention. BUt I still got the hug and pic I desired.

I had a case of mistaken identity with Gerald Levert. I was backstage at a concert and he said "Alisha?" (which is not my name), came up to me and grabbed me and hugged me. Once the hug was done, he realized I wasn't her and apologized. We laughed for a good 2 minutes.

Halle Berry came to my university. It was early in the morning and she had on very little makeup and she still looked gorgeous.

Musiq Soulchild was out while I was shopping in Philly. He'a a nice guy.

Judge Greg Mathis sat in my row at a concert in Detroit.

bro_strawter 10-24-2003 01:25 PM

Chaka Khan numerous times. We have a good repore I speak with her sister Tammy quite often over the net.

Aretha Franklin - met her at a grocery store in Detroit

Keith Washington - His brother is one of my closest friends Godfather. He invited us to a private after party he had a few years ago. Chaka Khan was there, as well as quite a few other entertainers whom I won't mention. There was some serious drinking going on that night!

Al Gore - I went to Tennessee State. He came on campus for something or nother. I also ran across him a couple times while he was teaching at Fisk

The entire Tennessee Titans football team - year, after year, after year.

Eddie George - as stated before, I've seen the team members all over Nashville. I was in Atlanta awhile back at a bookstore, and guess who walked in.

Christopher Willliams - My cousin (Lorenzo..."Make Love To Me fame) opened at the State Theatre here in Detroit for him. I met him, and his fiancee at that time. Not sure if they ever married.

Mac 10 - we were on the same local record label back in 90-91. This was before he became Mr.T Boz.

Rufus - Chaka's old group

Patti Labelle - at Fishbones

P.Diddy - Let me tell y'all how I met Puff. Some friends and I were riding around in Detroit, and we heard on the radio that Diddy was at the radio station. Well, we new there was only a front and back door at the station, so we waited on him to come out. Sure enough, he came out BLINGING!! He's much darker (skinned) in person.

There's more, but I'm tired of typing.:)

Tony: Ced was scruffy because he didn't want hordes of people coming up to him at the airport. Ced had said that on the news when they interviewed him at his show at the casino. It worked because other than me and my family, only 3 other people recognized him and got autographs.

I have more celebs that I've met:

Jerry Rice
Hi-Five
The Guy from the Outkast video "I Love the Way You Move" who had the umbrella. (I think my youth group girls told me his name is Bentley)

Steve McNair (when he played at Alcorn State. Met him on a tour when I was a senior in high school)

I think that's it..... :D

desirethegreat1 10-28-2003 12:40 AM

Spike Lee: Part of the documentary "Four Little Girls" was filmed next door to my house. Chris amd Maxine McNair ( the parents of Denice McNair) live next door.

pretty edAKAted 11-08-2003 03:25 PM

OMG! I met Steve Urkel in the Mall of Memphis like 7 years ago, and to my disbelief he actually looked cute and quite muscular!! ,

My Cousin and I were just walking the mall when I saw these 4 guys walking with about 10 girls following. I thought it was wierd, then we stopped I looked at my cousin and we were like "hey! that's Stephan!! Ahhhhhhhhh!! so we turned around and went back and said hey! he waived and we were like

That was soooo corny of us to do that!! Sheesh!!

The End.. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :p

blackcoffee 11-10-2003 10:03 PM

Hey all ..... :D ... been a long time huh??

anywho ... since living in NY ... I've seen Paul Mooney a few times ... saw him in Harlem yesterday as a metter of fact .. there were 2 white tourists trying to engage him in conversation & take pictures with their huge lens cameras.
