This has been discussed in the Mods Forum, now I'm putting it out there for everyone

The question is, did you learn the song 'Fifty Nifty United States' as a child and as a result can you rattle off the names of the states in alpabetical order?

I did, and I can

CarolinaCutie 10-18-2003 12:41 PM

Yup, I can do it right now.

AlphaGam1019 10-18-2003 12:49 PM

Yep! Know the song (and the States).

Hootie 10-18-2003 05:36 PM

Yeah, we actually had a school performance and sang that song. Helped me remember the states in alphabetical order. Now if only they had a song with all the states and their capitals!:p

SilverTurtle 10-18-2003 05:36 PM

Don't know the song, but can name the 50 states. In jr. high we had these sayings.. sort of song like but not really... for EVERY country in the world. Divided up into Central/S. America & Europe & Africa & etc. I don't remember those, and a lot of countries have changed since then.

bethany1982 10-18-2003 05:37 PM

Now I can't get this song out of my head.

SmartBlondeGPhB 10-18-2003 08:13 PM

GPhiLlama 10-18-2003 11:37 PM

Yeah. I remember that song. And it's running through my head. Thanks a lot, ya'll!

absolutuscchick 10-19-2003 12:06 AM

my sister had to learn this song in grade school so it sounds super familiar but I've never learned it before

ZTAMich 10-19-2003 09:27 AM

I learned the states just by memorization but did learn the song soon after. My 5th grade teacher told us that he had to recite them all and the capitals I think in order to graduate to 6th grade. And in geographical order. Eek!

Peaches-n-Cream 10-19-2003 11:28 PM

I don't know this song, but I learned the Preamble to the Constitution from Schoolhouse Rock. Does that count?

chideltjen 10-19-2003 11:35 PM

man i thought i was the only one involved in a choir that had to sing that song. nice to know i am not alone.

did you all do the presidents song too?

My sister bought the Schoolhouse Rock tapes for my daughters and they are so impressed that I know the words to most of those songs! For one brief, shining moment I was actually cool in their eyes :)

lifesaver 10-20-2003 03:08 AM

I remember the song too. 5th grade. Can still do it too. Really fast too. Amazing bar trick.

Except we sang;
"North, South, East, West"
"Texas is the Greatest State......"
