'Rich Girls'MTVs new Reality Show

'Rich Girls' Reality Show to Debut on MTV
Mon Oct 13, 2:12 PM ET

NEW YORK - Two wealthy young women dash around New York City, mindlessly spending money while TV cameras follow them.

But they're not the notorious Hilton sisters. They're Ally Hilfiger and Jamie Gleicher, the teenage stars of MTV's latest reality series, "Rich Girls."

"We just prance around this damn city like it's, like, our shopping haven," Hilfiger, the daughter of designer Tommy Hilfiger, says in the first episode, scheduled to air at 10:30 p.m. ET Oct. 28.

But she adds, "Just because we're rich doesn't mean that we're not good people."

And her pal Gleicher says she's learned from her privileged life that "money does not buy happiness."

In the premiere, cameras capture them riding in a limousine to shop for prom dresses and going to the upscale Frederic Fekkai salon to have their hair and nails done. Gleicher also debates whether to lose her virginity on prom night.

I saw the commercial for this show last weekend. I figured Ally was Tommy's daughter, but who is the other chick?

nachural 10-14-2003 12:37 PM

Tell me why I just saw this commercial like two mins ago. I dont know who that other girl is but she sure has it too. Shoot I;m looking forward to this show it should be quite interesting.

bettyboop 10-15-2003 01:45 AM

I agree it will be interesting to see how 2 young girls manage the money they receive.

This show premieres on Tuesday evening. I am going to be sitting in front of the tube watching how Tommy's daughter and Leo's daughter spend their father's money. I hear that if you have money, things are not as smooth as one would think. I would like to see if that is true since I think that my life would be easier if I had a few million dollars. These girls have multi-millions and I want to just watch them to see how to do things differently.

snuggles12 10-29-2003 11:46 AM

Who is Jaime's father?

Ally's father is Tommy HIlfiger. I'm not sure who Jaime's father is.

feu_declipse 10-29-2003 12:17 PM

Did anyone watch this show yesterday??
Some of Jaime's comments had me
Why was she in the salon talking about she had to lose her virginity the night before prom becasue it would be too cliche to lose it on prom night?? She also says that if she doesn't, she'll be really upset.

Mind you, I think she's only been dating ole boy for a few weeks.

Meanwhile Ally's wondering what her father would think of her buying a Ralph Lauren dress :)

I'm not sure how interesting this show will be but the first episode was somewhat interesting for a little bit.

Jaime's father Leo is a businessman in New York. He has his hand in several different ventures. There are several prep schools in the area and the only reason I know even one little thing about Jaime is because one of my cousins (who is a younger than those in the class of 2003) is a spoiled little princess with a platinum spoon in her mouth running around in the same little spoiled circles while attending a different school.

(excuse my bitter tirade -- still job searching)

snuggles12 10-29-2003 07:03 PM

Thanks for the info.

Below is a link about the series. Jaime's father founded a company, Innovation Luggage.

"Ally Hilfiger, daughter of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, and Jaime Gleicher, whose father founded Innovation Luggage, brought the idea for this series all about them to MTV executives."

Yeah, I read the little darlings are executive producing the show. Ahh, the opportunities! Level playing filed my @ss!!

RedefinedDiva 10-29-2003 07:20 PM

I doubt that I will watch this show again. I'm not sure if I am "mature" enough to tolerate watching rich little brats whine and complain about having a platinum spoon in their mouths. Here they are saying dumb isht like, "You know, I think clothes should be free. You know, because they are, like, a basic necessity like food and water" or something to that affect. What the funk ever!! If that were the case, Ally wouldn't even be on the show! Note to Ally: Your father makes clothes! If they were free, you would have nothing!

I'm still trying to make it for myself so that my kids don't have to struggle and have hard times like me. I can't watch kids fly to Italy on a whim, buy $10, 000 worth of clothes in one day, ride in limos, yet still seem to bitch and moan about nonsense.

Do I sound too bitter? :D

You don't sound bitter. I'm not particularly interested in this show because I don't particularly like Tommy Hilfiger and don't need to see his spawn/female doppelganger.

I think of Spike Lee's Bamboozled and the sendup of TH as "Timmi Hilln*****."

exquizit 10-30-2003 10:01 AM

I watched this and for thee most part I was BORED. Their voices were bothering me the whole time they were going on and on in an endless chatter. Am I getting old or something? These cows didn't know who Jane Fonda was and wasn't quite clear on jackie O! I guess I'm guilty of watching because I wanted to see what clothes they were buying and to get a good look inside some of the stores. (that's about as close as I'll get to Prada ;) ) But I doubt this will be a show that i'll watch all the time....But I did say the same about Nick and Jessica:rolleyes: and I watch that just to see what bit of stupidity will come out of her mouth next.

I am tellin y'all- this chick is not as dumb as she is playin! Her and the hubby are making some SERIOUS money off of her dumb act.

KnowledgeSeeker 10-30-2003 05:27 PM

JUST TO CLARIFY: Jamie's dad started Samsonite Luggage Company.

Oh my gosh this show is sooooooooooo ridiculous. Although I am fascinated by the way "the other half" lives, these girls are in a nut shell RIDICULOUS.!!!!

They can shop ANYWHERE for all the best, and that's what they chose for PROM DRESSES:( (i guess daddy's sense of style doesn't rub off on everyone!!!;) )

And did ya'll see the preview for next week. Ally talkin about 3 important people told her something really big, 1 being someone she knows the others are 2 psychics. once again i say RIDICULOUS!!!

rho4life 10-30-2003 06:09 PM

not quite chicken

Well, I agree with earlier posts. This is NOT as addictive as Newlyweds. The two positive things I noticed:

1. They were talking to one of the moms and the kids seemed to have a good realtionship with her, so they probably were TOTALLY raised by nannies.

2. They wanted people to share the cost of the limo. At a young age they've realized that people may try to take advantage of them b/c of their money, and they're not letting it happen anymore.

On a catty note..........Some of the clothes they bought just demonstrate that having a pile of money still doesn't mean you'll have good taste.

:)

UpPinkies 10-30-2003 06:25 PM

This is a little off the subject, but.....

Did anyone watch HBO's Born Rich? This film was done by a great great (I think) grandson of the Johnson and Johnson company did a story on several rich kids.

On one hand I would love not to be able to get up and go to work and travel all around the world at a drop of a dime.
But on another hand their lives seemed a little boring (ya, I said it). The Johnson and Johnson kid asked his dad what he should do after graduating from college and his dad told him that he can stay in his studies or even start a rare book collection. WTH??

Yes and with all that money some of them don't have a clue. One kid said he is scared that if he does not wear the proper shoes he thinks he will get cut out of his parents or grandparents will.

I watched Born Rich. I found it to be very intriguing. The only person on the documentary who I did not like was Luke. I have more comments to add later

DELTABRAT 10-30-2003 11:18 PM

Born Rich was halfway decent. I really dug ole boy who was saying something or other about going to the tailor, etc. Obviously I was looking at him and not listening to a word coming out of his mouth.

I did hear him say something about "when he is getting p___y, he is thinking of reading a book, and while he is reading a book, he is thinking of p___y."

Luke was obnoxious and the "I own Grand Central" seemed really "nice." Like he really would rather be doing something else besides just being rich.

I think rish girls need a beatdown. They bother me. Trump's daughter and the other blonde chick talked about shopping all day, but the guys talked about the sheer priviledge of being rich.

I noticed it's all about class vs. money, per se. There are a sh_tload of filthy rich black folks but to do a show. The closest they will get is Lionel Richie's friggin' daughter and her skinny little friend.

Enough. The Johnson and Johnson guys dad seemed real low key, too. We glamorize this sh_t. Money ain't nothing new but overconsumption is...fairly. If these folks had to manage the money, they'd be broke.

Conskeeted7 10-31-2003 02:00 PM

I know that this is the new millenium, but I had a problem with the Jamie girl on MTV cursing and smoking on camera. She's still in high school and it seems like she would just know better than to behave that way. I also was not feeling her on prom night talking about how she wanted to have sex with this guy that she had been dating for 3 weeks!! Then she tried to play it off saying that she didn't want to lose her virginity on prom night  If I were her parents, I'd be very ashamed.

I actually think that her parents couldn't be more proud. They think that the way that their children act is great. If they didn't, they would spent more time trying to make their children more grounded. The kids know academic success and they know the power of charity (tax deductable donations), but they can't seem to deal with real life issues . . . but I guess they don't have to if they don't want to because they are living in a rather sad bubble.

LatinaAlumna 11-03-2003 07:04 PM

Jamie's mother acted like it was "cute" or something that her daughter wanted to lose it. I don't think it's good for MTV to show teens drinking, smoking, and swearing. It's one thing to show college kids, but high schoolers?

I agree. She acted as if her mother wasn't even in the room. My mom and I are close but not where we talked about me wanting to lose my virginity. Her mom didn't help the situation by saying that she thought she might have lost hers in the back of a car.

desirethegreat1 11-04-2003 12:05 AM

I only saw part of one of the episodes of "Rich Girls", so forgive me for not knowing who exactly made this comment.
She calls up her "boyfriend" and was talking to him about sex, them she says something about him not being ready to "go there" yet and she was angry.
One minute they say how cliche' it is to have sex after prom then how they want it so bad.

Ok....Ladies.....I am pretty sure that you would agree with me. Even if I did want sex so bad, I would not put it out there and on National TV at that. Because my parents would beat the crap out of me for not only being stupid, but what we do often reflects onto our families. Or maybe that's just in my house?

vanda 11-04-2003 07:35 PM

Jaime really annoyed me with how many times she said "our limo". It drove me crazy! To be a senior in high school, she looks pretty old.

Mz Destiny 11-05-2003 12:07 AM

I am watching this for the first time right now. I cannot believe ole boy Mike is up here crying cuz he can't spend the night...lol

Mark betta dance!

This is quite comical....

RedefinedDiva 11-05-2003 12:12 AM

Ok, I am watching another episode. I was too lazy to change the channel after "The Real World" went off.

I only have one question: WHAT'S THE FREAKIN' PLOT???
 The show is just "random." This is a waste of airtime. I would rather watch "Doggy Fizzle Televizzle" (so you KNOW this show has GOT to be horrible!)

You know, when I saw the close-ups of her, I was disappointed. She should have soft, smooth skin and it is crinkly like an adult's would be . . . have you ever heard the saying "Black don't crack?" -- this gal is on her way to playing the next leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre -- she needs to stop frowning so much.

The extreme makeup didnt help. There were a few close up shots of both girls that made me actually flinch back from the screen. Dear Lord they are not going to age well!

And while perhaps that fact should not, and would not make a nicer person than me, smile- it really, really does.

exquizit 11-05-2003 11:09 AM

I watched again :o and Micheal's FAKE tears had me CTHU! Brat said Jamie looks like the Joker except her smile is upside down. She was so serious I fell out. She looked at me like

Thier taste in fashion sucks big time!

I was CU too when Michael was crying!! When Ally stood next to her father after graduation, I was CTFU. There teeth are so HUGE!!! They took up like half the screen!! :o These girls have WAY too many probelms to be so young. Especially that Jaime.

GinaD79 11-05-2003 12:32 PM

Pride

Does anyone else feel like Jamie has NO pride at all whatsoever? What was with her following Mike and his GF around? Mike's tears were definitely FAKE! He just didn't wanna ride the bus home! What a buncha babies!

prayerfull 11-25-2003 12:56 PM

Has anyone been watching this show?

Last week's episode was a trip because Tommy Hilfigger took Ally and Jamie to check out his Summer clothing line and critique it. So, these little binches roll up in there and basically dog out everything that the designers worked so hard to put together.

Did y'all see the expressions on the design team's faces as Ally and Jamie were cutting down everything they created.

Yeah, but were they right? I didn't see the epsiode last night, so I can't say, but if the clothes were ugly and they said they were ugly then I ain't mad at 'em.

I have to admit that fashion-wise the two girls, while not MY personal style, do embody the trends- ever since the episode showing Ally wearing ugg boots, I have seen the damn things EVERYWHERE, and the prices on ebay have SKYROCKETED.

I wouldn't ask their opinions on rocket science, but they probably do have some good ideas about fashion.

feu_declipse 11-27-2003 01:28 AM

For some reason, today's episode had me thinking Ally might not be so bad. She didn't even know what couture was until last year, which is not what I expected. I expected her to be Paris hilton-like with more sense maybe. Who knows?? I probably won't catch another episode though. I only watched this one by mistake. But that first one still had me

NaturalDelta 11-28-2003 01:23 AM

nicole ritchie

ok.....
is nicole ritchie adopted? i know lionel's first wife was black, and their daughter doesn't looks like she has a drop of black in her.
also is she the same daughter who was recently arrested for heroine possession???

feu_declipse 11-28-2003 02:00 AM

Yes to both questions. She's adopted and was arrested for heroin possession.

ClassyLady 11-28-2003 08:28 PM

I hate to admit it, but I really like Rich Girls. Boyfriend and I watch it all the time. I must say though, I am pleasantly surprised by these two and had totally unfounded views on what the show would be before I even saw. I was thinking that the girls would be buying $5,000 tank tops every other day. I was surprised when they went shopping at Urban Outfitters (one of my favorite stores). It is a little overpriced, but not out of the reach of most people.

I also liked that they seemed to have more of a worldview than most peopole. It was nice to see them trying to get a fundraiser together for people in Ethiopia.

One thing that I question about this show is how genuine the awarness of their privilege is. It seems like every episode Jaime is talking about how blessed she is and how she doesn't take her money for granted. It comes off as contrived.
