Omicron Delta Kappa
 

Is anybody out there a member of Omicron Delta Kappa? I got tapped at my chapter's Eleusinia and I am so excited! Our first meeting is tomorrow!~ What does your ODK circle do at yall's campus (heheh I said Yall!)? Here at APSU, it is a real honor... but I don't think they actually DO anything! :p

hah hah! i know what you mean virginia - it's a SERIOUS honor at apsu but i don't think we really do anything either (everybody is too damn busy with all of their other organizations!)

I got my letter in the mail last week. I was asked to apply by staff members in the Leadership Office here at UNCC. We get inducted in December.

It's a pretty big honor at Pitt... out of 14K or so of undergrads, i think it averages about 30 a semester get in. I was initiated fall semester junior year, the first time I was eligible to apply.

They don't do anything much at my school. The only people who ever do anything are the officers, and the main thing they do is cosponsor the Homecoming King and Queen election.

I was in ODK and my oldest daughter was tapped last week!:D

Neither chapter does much except when it comes time to tap new members.

I got tapped two weeks ago, and was initiated yesterday! We had a little scavenger hunt (my ODK hazing:lol:!!!) on Friday night.

ODK is really new on the Nebraska - Lincoln campus, having only been created 5 years ago. So it's not quite the honor that it probably is elsewhere. Here they only take members in during the fall, so I was lucky enough to get in on my first semester of eligibility. There are 17 of us new members. So I think it's becoming a bigger honor as more people become aware of it. I like the fact that it's not totally dominated by Greeks yet, (I think we still make up the majority of my new member class.)

Some of the things they do is to recognize an outstanding sophomore leader on campus, and they also host several roundtables about controversial issues once a semester. Other than that I don't know.

Hey marissa!!! I'm glad you told me we don't actually do anything... I was really wondering if maybe we did and I just missed that memo!

Okay, What is ODK, is it like Order of Omega, A greek honor society

ODK was founded at Washington and Lee University, my institution.

It is a Greek honor society for anyone (social Greeks or no) who demonstrates leadership and academic excellence.

I am in ODK, and when I was at Vanderbilt, it was a big honor. I believe there were 8 in my class.

Hmm...I guess it's not a big deal here at UNCC since we get a letter and don't get initiated until December. I guess I wasn't really "tapped" but I may get surprised as these coming weeks passed.;)

yah we've got a monthly meeting and sometimes i think that they try to plan a volunteer activity or something but nothing major...

Is anyone thinking about going to the ODK national Convention? I guess it's in February, and my circle is trying to get at least 3 people to go? I'm not sure I want to go, but if I get to meet som GCers I'd think about it...

I asked the faculty secretary about convention and she said she wants to go but is not sure if it is going to happen for us or not.

At your schools, how do they pick who to tap (or whatever) into ODK? At mine I *think* you have to fill out an application, and then I don't know what they do from there. Do they do that at your schools, or do they use some other way to pick? I might apply next year; I have a few sorority sisters in it now.

At UNCC, you fill out an application, then the current members of ODK have meeting and discuss each potential member and ask around about each potential letter then send you an acceptance or rejection letter. This happens in early October with Induction for New Members being in December

I was supposed to be inducted into ODK tonight....but the weather here sucks and I couldn't make it since I had to drive forever to get there. I'm so mad at myself for not being there....:(

Wait a minute...I think I got a letter inviting me to join this last year when I was a senior. But I threw the letter away 'cause I thought it was some sort of honor society for another college that they sent me by mistake...ooooooops... :D

I was just tapped tonight. So this means kddani will be from the same circle. Or part of the same circle or whatever. Kinda cool. Dani does ODK seriously do nothing but homecoming? Sounds kinda boring, maybe I'll have to shake some stuff up. ;)

They seriously do jack. After initiation, I never even went to a single meeting. The only meeting I even remember there being was to elect officers, I couldn't go for whatever reason.

Oh, and you'll get newletters, credit card and donation solicitations from them for the rest of your life ;)

Just to clarify, ODK is a national leadership honor society. It has nothing to do with being a member of a social GLO. Congrats to all the new ODKs out there! :)

I got tapped for ODK last week.... I get "initiated" into the Alpha Circle in January. :)
