Stupid Alarm Clock Stories
Does anyone else have stupid alarm clock stories?
The other night, my husband thought that he heard the alarm clock go off (I seriously doubt it did!) He got the whole family up, insisting that we were running late, and about 20 minutes later--as we were running around crazily-- one of the kids said, "Why does my watch say 3:50?" LOL!!! It WAS 3:50!!! We all gratefully fell back into bed. |
Last year I had a really important presentation at 8 in the morning. As I was setting my alarm clock the night before, I jokingly remarked to my roommate that I hoped the ghost in the room next door (who likes to play tricks) didn't mess with my alarm clock and make me late. Well, guess what...my alarm clock didn't go off even though I had it turned on with the correct time set and everything! That sucked...
|
My ex had a HORRID time with his alarm clock (mostly I think it was the user...ha ha ha). So I went to this store like a Sharper Image. I bought him this new, state-of-the-art type alarm clock that will NEVER shut off. Like if you unplug it, it will remember what the time should be, what your settings were...etc. So even if the power goes out and comes back on, it is still set! I shoulda taken it with me when I left  :p
|
When I was in grad school, one very tough professor made a statement the day before the final...that if anyone was late for the exam, they would miss the art slides and that was 30% of the test. (So obviously, the best you could do on the exam if you missed the slides was a 70!) Well, I had never been late to class, but I got so freaked out that my alarm would malfunction that I couldn't go to sleep!
P.S. Happy ending to the story -- I did well on the exam! |
My dad's alarm clock just went off and it's 3:40 am. YAWN!!
|
My alarm clock is good for exactly one thing: waking my husband up. :p
|
My freshman year, I spilled soda all over my alarm clock. Surprisingly, it still works. The snooze button will get stuck every once in a while but that's it.
The other day I was at the boyfriend's and I set the alarm clock for 7am so I could be up for work. Yawn. I didn't realize that I accidently set it for 7pm. Around 7:55, I randomly woke up and realized that I had to be at work in 5 minutes. That was hell. Another time, his alarm clock never went off. It was set correctly and everything. I ended up missing a quiz I had in class that day. |
i remember i woke and looked at the clock- i thought it said 4:30 a.m. so i jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. while i was in there, i realized that the clock didnt say 4:30. so i went back to the clock and it said 1:30. dont know how i misread that but i was sure happy to get back in bed.

CLASSIC!! LMAO My first year teaching, I did not have a car so I used to walk to work. Some mornings I got up earlier to stop at the Kroger on the way to work. Well one Sunday night I set my alarm for 5:00a.m. The next morning I got up and was THE FIRST to arrive to work even before the custodians so I sat outside in the dark. Well when I got inside FINALLY, it said 5:30a.m. I had set my clock up an hour so when I got up it was really 4:00a.m.  :o :o :o |
A few years back, I worked for a company where I was on travel. Every Monday at 8am, I caught a flight out of Boston to where I was working, and every Thursday I flew home. I lived in an apartment that was about a 10min taxi ride from Logan Airport. I would pack and lay out my clothes Sunday night, so I could wake up at 6, shower, dress, grab a bite to eat, and head to the airport.
Like I said, my alarm clock is good only for waking my husband up. So one Monday morning, I was lying in bed half-awake, punching my snooze bar every 7 minutes and otherwise just lying there dozing. Around 7am my husband shook me awake. Him: "It's seven o'clock." Me: "So what?" Him: "You have to catch a flight at eight." Me: <words that cannot be repeated in polite company> I have never moved so fast in my life... but I made my flight. :D |
Once I was in summer school and had a test the next morning, so I made sure to set it for 7:00 (the test was at 8 but it took me nearly half an hour to get there!) and then hopped in bed around 10, having studied for about 30 minutes in final preparation. Well, the next morning I woke up feeling strangely refreshed and I thought it strange that I was up before my alarm. I looked at the clock and it was blinking 4:00-something. Then I checked my cell phone...it was 9:40! Ack!! Later I found out Alabama Power was doing line work starting early that morning and knocked out my damn electricity. My prof was not to thrilled but did let me make it up.

Interestingly enough, I had an alarm clock moment this morning.
It went off at 7am as scheduled, but I decided I could use another 30 minutes to sleep. So, I set it for 7:30. But I forgot to turn the alarm back ON. I woke up at 8am and freaking out. I ended up calling in to work to cancel my 2 hour shift this morning because by the time I could make it there, it would be half over. |
My alarm is so loud you jump when it goes off. Well once a couple years ago, apparently I was in one of those dead sleeps and happened to be close to the edge of my bed(my dog had taken over and pushed her feet out) and when the alarm went off I jumped and fell out of my bed into the floor....rude awakening. :)
|
Freshman Year of College I had an 8am class. I slept through my alarm so many times that I had to buy two more alarm clocks and put them all around my room to make it to class on time. I still ended up with the most absences in the class.
|
i have this really loud really annoying singing alarm clock.
during fall recruitment in 2002 one of my sisters decided to play with it rihgt before house tours started and it went off in the middle of house tours. it was funny....i was giving a house tour and no one could find me or figure out how to turn it off. no one ever played with that alarm clock again. |
Once I flew to Asia from South Africa, Hong Kong to be exact. Stupid me, I forgot to change my watch. hong Kong is about 7 hours ahead of South Africa. NOrmally I get up at around 6:30 in the morning. But the first day in Hong kong, I got up at 1:30 PM, which sucks cause I missed my 9 am meeting.

Last year I was bringing one of my friends to SigEp's formal as a date for one of GPBoy's brothers, since he had no game and knew no girls. I had to drive to Madison (about an hour away) to pick her up, then drive back to Platteville, where she was going to sleep (she had Relay for Life the night before) and then I was going to go to Dubuque with one of the other Gamma Phis to get our hair/nails/etc done.
I had a nightmare that week that I was going to sleep through my alarm and miss picking her up and ruin Lee's senior banquet. I had three alarm clocks set! My cell phone goes off at 6 a.m. I turn it off. My Palm goes off at 6:15. I turn it off. I'm supposed to hear my real alarm go off at 6:30, and it never did...I woke up at 7:30, when I was supposed to be IN MADISON at 8. I have never showered and driven so fast in my life. We ended up only being able to get our hair done, but we did get the joy of running into Lee and his family (who never liked me) in the mall in DBQ while we waited for our hair appointments, while I was looking quite charming in sweats and a very very tired face. I have another alarm clock story relating to Daylight Savings Time, but it is not board appropriate. |
I admit it. I signed up all the guys i didn't like in another fraternity up for wake up calls at 4AM during finals week, repeating every 4 minutes for 4 hours.

Sophomore year, my roommate and I were sleeping on a Sunday morning... and we were woken up by our next door neighbors' (in the dorm) alarm clock. It was set so that the radio would come on... well, my roommate's bed was next to the wall of their room so it bothered here the most so she got up and knocked on their door. There was no answer and she kept knocking... so she wrote a message on their dry erase board saying that it was rude and to please turn off their alarm the next time. Well, later that night, our door was a little open and we heard our neighbors come back and they were like, look at this. They apparently were away for the weekend and that's why they didn't turn their alarm off... then they got mad because my roommate had left that message on their door. Haha... and next semester they both went Greek too.

Alarm clock story
This summer, I woke up and realized that the power had gone off in the middle of the night. I raced to get ready and drove the 45 minutes to school. I grabbed my book bag and raced to class. I was 5-7 minutes late, and I was HORRIFIED to see that not ONE of my students had waited for me. I left a note on my classroom door that I was in my office, and that no student had waited. I called my mom to comfort me, "Mom, I was late, just a few minutes and NOT ONE of my students waited for me!" My mom replied, "Late for what, dear? Your class does start for another hour!" I had left home at 4:45 am.....
Good grief! Silver |
My alarm clock amuses me more than it does others. My alarm clock (through necessity) is loud enough to wake the dead. It is important to note that I am a heavy sleeper and sometimes not even ice water would wake me up. I have the unique ability to shut of my alarm clock (placed ACROSS the room) while still sleeping. This has caused me to be late for countless classes and days student teaching. I also am capable of hitting snooze (again in my sleep) for hours upon end . . . not so humourous to roomates but pretty darn amusing to me when they tell me about it later. I'm seriously considering the possiblity that I may have sleep apnea like my father . . .

Last year, we were bored so we decided to design a prank for a brother that slept on his room loft (instead of in the cold airs). We collected a bunch of alarm clocks, set them up in different time, and randomly hid them all over his room.
Then the next day, I met the crankiest man in the universe, with his puffy eyes, LOL :D I wonder why ... ;) |
Emily, you could get a bed-shaker alarm. They are made for the hearing impaired. A hotel where I worked had them available for guests, so I'm not sure where you could get one or how much they are.
|
I have a Bose cd player/alarm clock thing and it gets increasingly louder as it goes off. Well, I have it set it for the loudest volume possible so there is just no possible way I can sleep through it. Lately though I've been forgetting to turn it off when I go to sleep at the boy's house and today I got a note from our house manager asking me to please remember to turn it off when I go to shack. Very embarassing!! :o

Somewhat related... but back in my days when I was defending freedom in the U.S. Air Farce as A1C AlphaSigOU the base I was stationed at was pretty close to the front lines of the Cold War, and we almost always had regular 'Salty Nation' basewide alerts.
Almost always around 4:00 in the morning the 'Giant Voice' speakers throughout the base began playing the William Tell Overture (aka the 'Lone Ranger' theme) in between pauses where a voice would repeat "BASE RECALL, BASE RECALL... ALL PERSONNEL REPORT TO YOUR DUTY SECTIONS IMMEDIATELY!" Grab your chem warfare gear and head on down to the chow hall... after a while we got tired of the alarm and took our time getting to our duty section, which royally p*ssed off the powers that be. One time there was one guy in another dorm who played a prank and played the recall tune at full blast on his barracks blaster stereo... how he wasn't lynched I don't know. To this day I can't listen to the William Tell Overture without remembering that! ;) |
My mom has an alarm clock that sounds like birds when it goes off. One morning she got up before her alarm and got in the shower. She claims she thought "what a wonderful day, the birds are singing" and some other snow-white crap. Then she realized it was her alarm. I still tease her about that one.

i just lived a stupid alarm clock story last night. i am up right now cause i had to wake up at 4:15 a.m. i wake up thinking that i woke up before the alarm, so i turn them ( i have two) off. i am halfway out the bed when i look at the clock and it is 3 a.m.
but i also had dreams last night that i was waking up at 1 and 2 a.m. thinking it was time to get up. so maybe that incident when i woke up at 3 a.m. was a dream too. i dont know!! i am so confused!!....and tired!:( |
Lately, I have had all these dreams about being in church. DH and I have talked about finding a new church in this area, but have done nothing further. (We are believers, but not real church-goers). I thought the guilt was getting to me. I mentioned it to DH and he said he'd been having the same dreams.
After about two weeks, I finally figure out that his alarm was softly playing an evangelical Christian station. We would hear the loud beep-beep-beep and DH would hit snooze. When he hit snooze, the radio would take over. We would go back to sleep and dream we were in church. Does it count as going to church if you're there in your dreams?;) |

It's funny I should run into this thread today. My stupid cell alarm went off this morning and I jumped and hit my head on the wall adjacent to my bed. Yeah, I need a tylonal or two

Excellent! |
last night, i had a dream that i was riding in the car with my bf. we were just talking to each other when i kept hearing this beeping sound. my bf asked 'what is that sound?'
i said that is just my alarm clock going off. oh crap i need to wake up!!. that is when i really did wake up. i hate when my dreams are being interfeared by the outside world. |
Glad I am not the only one whose alarm clock occasionally doesn't go off, even when set correctly. I am mystified as to why that happens. Needless to say, my bosses weren't too thrilled when that happened, since I'd easily sleep an hour or so after I was supposed to be up. When it's absolutely vital that I get up right away and I can't risk my alarm clock not going off, I set my cell phone alarm clock as well, for about five minutes after my normal wake-up time. That's saved me a couple times.
I have my alarm clock radio volume really, really loud as well. But I too have been known to hit snooze in my sleep. And sometimes the alarm goes off and I just incorporate whatever's going on on the radio in my dream! (Sometimes what I hear on the radio will be on a TV in my dreams, the other night I dreamed I was listening to the station on a Walkman while in Las Vegas and was amazed I could pick it up so clearly out there, since it is a Chicago station! :D) My dog has figured out how to turn my clock radio on and off. These days of unemployment, I set my alarm to coincide with the start of one of my favorite radio shows and usually lie there and listen til the first commercial break. As soon as the alarm goes off, Barney walks from wherever he is on the bed (or jumps on the bed if he wasn't there already) onto my pillow, crowds my head off and starts licking my face. If he really wants out right away, he'll stand up with his back paws on the bed and front paws on the nightstand, and hit the off button on the radio...then continue licking my face til I get up to let him out. (There is no snooze button on Barney! ;) ) A couple times he's needed out earlier than my alarm's gone off, and when licking my face hasn't worked, he'll do the same thing and hit the ON button. You should see how pleased with himself he is when he does these things. :D |
I have a crazy alarm clock story...
My boyfriend went to Vegas a few weeks ago for a friends stag. He set his alarm for 6am, thursday morning, to get up and get ready to go to the airport. Well I guess he didn't turn it off, because friday morning (my day off from school), I was rudely awakend by the alarm clock. So I turn it off - or so I thought. Saturday morning at 6am the alarm goes off. So I turn it off - again, and turn down the volume too, just in case it didn't turn off properly. I went to a wedding that saturday and didn't get home and to bed until about 3am - at 6am a load buzzing, screeching noise wakes me up - the alarm clock again... and I couldn't turn it off - so here I am moving the bed around at 6am (the outlet is behind the bed), and I was p'd off. But now I can look back on it and laugh... |
I have so many stupid alarm clock stories....
The best one was when I was living in the ASA house and my alarm went off...I sleep on the top bunk and then was my mini-fridge and then was my dresser with my TV on top and my alarm clock on top of that. If I leaned over the edge of the bed I could reach my alarm clock to hit snooze, but just barely. So ane morning, I was reaching over and lost my balance...I fell forward and grabbed onto the front bar of the bed, ended up doing a flip and landing on my butt...one of my sisters who heard the noise came to see what happened and I was laughing to hard to tell her...needless to say, I won the "You Quack Me Up" award that week.... Another one was...you know that dream that it's the first day of school and your alarm doesn't go off??? Happened to me Sr. Year of highschool...I made it by third period... And one more...my freshman year, the drumline did NOT like my roommate, so they snuck in and set both our cell phone alarms, both computer alarms, my alarm clock (which had dual alarms) and her alarm clock to go off about every hour all night the night before we had to go to St. Louis for a big exhibition.... |
I have a couple of crazy alarm clock stories..
I few years back I had been out really late at the bars and then my friends house that by the time I got home I only had an hour to sleep before I had to get ready for work. I took a quick nap and then got ready. That night after I got home from work I decided to take another nap before I was going out again. My boss called at 8:00pm to see what I was doing and I thought it was 8am in the morning so I quickly hung up the phone and starting getting ready for work. It wasn't until she called me back and asked why I hung up that I realized it was 8pm. I told her it was a good thing that it was night because I was about to throw away my alarm clock. The alarm clock that my husband and I currently have is a little on the quiet side for me. He hates it because it never wakes me up just him. |
My brother thought it would be funny to get me a spongebob alarm clock for whatever holiday it was that i got a present. we set the time to go off at 4:00 because it was like 3:55 pm and we wanted to see the alarm clock work. It sings the spongebob themesong. I kinda forgot about it and that night... at 4 AM, I was startled by the captian singing "who lives in a pineapple under the sea???" since it was 4 am i didn't know what the hell i was doing. first i couldn't find the clock. then the off switch is really small so i couldn't find that until the song pretty much ended. this is why i can't wake up to LOUD noises. they freak me out. spongebob now sits on my dresser... silenced.
|
i am the lightest sleeper! i dont even need an alarm clock to wake me up, bc chances are i'll be up already! it sucks!! only one time have i slept "through" my alarm, and that was bc it was never set and i had gone to bed only three hours earlier. but i still ended up "waking" up randommly, bc thats how in-tune my dang conscience is to the time! i wish i could sleep like a normal person... sometimes i think i am always on the brink of conciousness when im sleeping, not actually asleep.
|
lol i just remembered this pig alarm clock that my best friends mom had gotten her for christmas- (she was obsessed with pigs) it was pretty big and it wore glasses with like these crazy demented eyes that would move- and when it went off- it would be like "OINK OINK OINK" a million times and the legs would move too.... well for some reason we had NO idea how to turn the freakin thing off- and we couldn't find the batteries inside of it- so finally after it going off at weird bizarre hours- we hid it in the linen closet under a whole bunch of towels- one night i was staying over and it was mad early in the morning- i was in the bathroom mnding my own business when out of no where i heard "OINK OINK OINK" and all this rustling in the closet- i freaked out! i totally forgot the thing even existed and i screamed at first- and then i realized what it was- everyone came rushing in and was like whats wrong/???? i was like uh yea your alarm clock scared me....
p.s. the thing finally died a few months ago.... |

My brother has that stupid alarm clock. It drives me nuts cause even if I'm downstairs sleeping the thing will still wake me up. Spong bob in the morning is just not my idea of a wake up call. |
