Catalog Shopping!

Surely I'm not the only person who receives 8.9 catalogs a day, especially as the holiday season starts to loom heavily over the average American checkbook! What I thought might be a good idea is, if you notice something in a catalog that might thrill someone of any GLO, why not share the wealth?

I thought of this while thumbing through Plow & Hearth (1-800-627-1712 or www.plowandhearth.com) and noticing a squirrel on just about every page! Especially cool is the Squirrel ornament which aids in World-Wide Reforestation, something dear to my heart.

Maybe we could all keep an eye out for each other this way!

CatStarESP4 10-07-2003 05:08 AM

I just checked out the catalog online. I saw the squirrel ornament, it is so cute and adorable. I am glad that it is helping a beautiful cause.

Angels

At Cracker Barrel, they have Battenburg Lace Angel lapel pins and book marks for 99 cents! REALLY neat for a Pi Phi.
Silver

GPhiBLtColonel 10-10-2003 02:52 AM

Yes we have clothing etc we can get thru Gamma Phi...

...anyone ever see crescent moons on anything?;) tee hee!

honeychile 10-10-2003 10:58 AM

Mais oui! Alpha Delta Pi maintains our Gift Mart, so when I see something available there & someplace else, I always support the Gift Mart!

The past few years, a collectable brass ornament has been available to Alpha Delta Pi's, with a new one each year. So far, I think there's been the Crest, Memorial Headquarters, Georgia Wesleyan, and .... I'm drawing a blank! But they are beautiful!

WhiteDaisy128 10-10-2003 12:00 PM

DG's have the Anchor Trader! We also just got a new one with all sorts of new cool things! I circled everything I wanted and left it on the coffee table at my dad's house!! :D

The new items are not added, but you can see the old ones here:

AOII has The Emporium for our shopping needs. :)

I love shopping there - when I have the $$! LOL There are high quality items and the ladies are a lot of fun to work with. Sometimes the prices are just a bit (not much) higher than other Greek stores, but I know the money is going to support that which I love so it's worth it to spend a few dollars more!

Two of my sisters & I exchange crescent moon ornaments every Christmas, as we were referred to as "the Luna-ettes" (long story). I'll be sure to let you know when I find this year's batch!

This is the above mentioned squirrel:

"Sales Of These Ornaments Aid In World-Wide Reforestation
These beautiful solid pewter Ornaments, finely detailed front and back, do more than simply look beautiful on your tree. For each one sold, a tree will be planted at a site around the world where reforestation is needed. The Canadian company that casts our heirloom quality ornaments, with satin hanging cords, has exceeded its goal by planting over two million trees."

Cele, I didn't think Gamma Phi had an official store like Anchor Trader, Carnation Collection, etc...I wish we did because those sites are awesome. Whenever I want to buy Gamma Phi stuff I have to order some from one place and some from another and I end up paying $$$ for shipping.

Yeah I'm always liking their stuff and Sorority Specialties. I just wish we had one big store!

TriDeltaGal 10-10-2003 03:00 PM

Tridelta has Delta Shop which is both online and a mail catalog. However, I have looked at my best friend who is a DG's Anchor Trader and you guys have an amazing selection of DG stuff. Delta Shop doesn't even compare... some of the stuff they sell is so wretched like Tridelta Kleenex! Really who would buy that?

CutiePie2000 10-10-2003 03:45 PM

KKG's online shopping is pretty terrific too:
http://www.buykappa.com/

I also think ADPi and AOII have pretty great online shopping. DZ is pretty good too, and of course, DG. :)

Did anyone notice the new Adv at the top of grreeekk chat. Checked their prices and wow, not bad.:)

Member, they help us, we sholuld help them!:D

I do not own stock in the company!;)

carnation 10-10-2003 08:14 PM

You can find jewelry and clothing for just about every sorority at Nature's Jewelry.... I like the hard-copy catalog best but some stuff is online at www.naturesjewelry.com . It's not official Greek stuff but so many of their items are decorated with the symbols--like pink socks with green turtles, tons of ladybug items, items with angels, crescent moons, lilies of the valley, irises, roses, dolphins, you name it!

Go to the website and log in, then go to the GFB Members section and then go to SHOP GFB -- check it out!

I love our stuff! Wait till you see the alum chapter's boutique at Convention :D

I used to get Nature's Jewelry catalogues when I was 17 until I was about 19 or 20. Sometimes I would order some stuff there. I haven't heard from them in years and I thought that they went out of business. I was wrong!!! I saw their website and they have such awesome stuff there. The items are so gorgeous.

The problem with the vendor in the ad is that they are not licensed (i'm guessing they get away with it because they don't market things for individual sororities, they just make the things with whatever you want on them), and therefore our national organizations to not get any money from them (in terms of licensing fees, etc.)

Tom Earp 10-12-2003 02:03 PM

As a guy, yep, I do most of my things by mailings. Hard to find fitted items off of the rack.

I buy all of my clothes from Haband for guys hard to fit. Prices are nice too. Nick nack stuff for my House samething or something else from Signature.

But the only problem is, that you once buy from one, you get mailings from a pot full!:( Ha, some are even the same company, but different name!

honeychile 12-29-2005 11:50 PM

Okay, I didn't techically see these in a catalog, but I found two things that were TriDelta friendly, from Cash's of Ireland (1-800-223-8100)

Dolphin Sweater

Wedgewood Dolphin Cuff Links

Our former next door neighbor is a TriDelta, and has the sweater - it's really sharp!

And for my ADPi sisters (and TriSigmas): Wild Violet Tea Set for One

I have other pieces of this set, it includes the teapot, and is very lovely!

OPhiARen3 12-30-2005 12:38 PM

Anybody know where you can find Raggedy Ann stuff that isn't too country? (OPhiA is officially affiliated with GreekShop.com, where they have a special section for us, but I really just hate the products they have designed ...).

jitterbug13 12-31-2005 12:20 AM

Ren,
That's going to be hard to find Ophia (Raggedy Ann) stuff that doesn't look country.

I'm getting ready to PM you.:)

TigerOwl 12-31-2005 06:21 PM

Raggedy Ann

Check www.anchortrader.com
Their doll is called Hannah.

33girl 12-31-2005 06:28 PM

Is Greekshop.com using Raggedy Ann as affiliated with a sorority? I thought Annie's corporate parents gave the thumbs down on that.

CarolinaDG 12-31-2005 09:21 PM

I would think that there wouldn't be a problem with that, since Anchor trader lists our Hannah dolls as "Raggedy Ann"

Although, interesting since Raggedy Ann is a historically incorrect Hannah doll.

I'll bite - what's the difference?

OK, DG's can correct me if I'm just pulling this out of my butt, but when they first created "Hannah" she was just a little girl doll. For some reason, it converted to Raggedy Ann through the years. I believe, even, that she was blonde at first. Once again, the DG's can correct me if I'm wrong...

*Going to surf the deltagamma.org website for verification*

CarolinaDG 01-02-2006 03:41 PM

All right, found it... The history of Hannah:

ETA: Here's a picture of the original Hannah:

We have Beta Sigma Phi Gifts to handle merchandise for us. Still, I enjoy seeing businesses who have yellow roses, strawberries, and other Beta-friendly things in unexpected places.

Honeychile, I just love that violet tea set. I'm not an ADPi, but violets remind me so much of my late mom, who was a hybridizer of African violets up until her untimely death in 1990. She would have loved it, too.

Thanks for pointing it out!

honeychile 01-02-2006 09:55 PM

The Hannah Doll story is sooo cute!! I had no idea...!

You're welcome, RagtimeRose - and I love your signature!

honeychile 01-30-2006 11:52 PM

The Ross-Simon's online catalog (www.jewelry.ross-simons.com) has a LOT of "greek" type items in their clearance department! It's huge, so I'd suggest that you chose to show 60 items per page or you'll be all night. Among the things I saw were:

-a crystal Penguin
-Killarney Rose(s)
-jeweled lion box
-lilies
-hearts
-butterflies
-a <> diamond of diamonds rings
-a ladybug frame (page 25)
-a sterling urn/vase with lion "door knocker" handles
-turtles
-magnolias
-leopards
-and a lot more that I missed

There's jewelry, china, silver, crystal gift items and more. I tried to select items at fairly reasonable prices (about $9-$500), and they go from Hermes to Mikasa to Waterford to Spode to ??? Some of these pieces are one of a kind, and are absolutely exquisite!
