Best/Worst Stephen King Movies
I'll post mine up when I make up my mind
|
The Green Mile & Shawshank Redemption -- BEST
|
Carrie - all time Stephen King CLASSIC!!!!
Pet Sematary - The book was waaaaay better, IMO. I agree w/CT4 on Shawshank and Green Mile. |
Carrie--without a doubt. (1976)
OK ETA:
Worst Sleepwalkers His books are always better Monkey Shine is a great one!http://www.john-bauer.com/movies.shining.jpg |
Shinning was a great film. I would love to see the Dark Castle be made into a movie. But that would be too hard.
I noticed that King's book either gonna rock or it's gonna suck. Nothing in between. Dreamcatcher sucked. The book is great, the movied sucked. |

I guess that's why "Shawshank" & "Green Mile" made better movies...b/c they weren't all about supernatural/scary/weirdness. Kathy Bates was pure greatness in "Misery." HE DIDN'T GET OUT OF THE COCK-A-DOODIE CAR!!! My daughter's nickname is "Firestarter" because I swear, she could set fire to things with her eyes if I let her get mad enough! |
Shawshank: best
Carrie, Misery: honorable mentions. Dreamcatcher:worst It, The Stand: oy! :( |
BEST: The Green Mile, Carrie (even though it gives me the creeps)
WORST: It, The Stand, Dreamcatcher (just watched it last weekend---IT SUCKED!!!) |
Carrie is awesome, as was The Shining (the original w/ Jack Nicholson--the Steven Weber from Wings version is ok and stays true to the book, but I couldn't get over the fact that it's Steven Weber from Wings :p). The Green Mile was also very good, and I love The Shawshank Redemption even though I haven't read the short story.
Needful Things was probably the most horrendous SK movie ever. ETA: Out of curiosity, I IMDB'd Stephen King. Here's the page with all of his stuff: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/ |
If you thought Dreamcatcher was bad.......watch Thinner.
|
I liked the stand, it, shawshank, and the green mile
|
Misery, Stand By Me, Carrie, Shawshank Redemption, and the Shining.
I remember Christine sacring me a little, too. |
When I was a kid IT scared the crap out of me. I watched it recently though with some sisters and it was just boring! Oh well. IMO Shawshank Redemption is the best, that movie is just freakin' fabulous, one of my absolutel favorites of ALL time! Thinner was horrible too by the way.

How many of those movies did Stephen King actually direct?
Take the Shining for example. Stephen King wrote the book but it was Stanley Kubrick who ended up making the movie that starred Jack Nicholson. The movie did well but Stephen King hated the Stanley Kubrick version so much that years later he made his own version starring Steven Weber from Wings. The Stephen King version sucked. The movies that I didn't like were Longaliers, Tommyknockers, Stand, Rose Red and Storm of the Century. I liked Shawshank, and Green Mile. Both were directed by Frank Darabont. |
Carrie isthe best Stephan King movie. However,my favorite book is Pet Semetary followed by Salems Lot,which wasn't a bad movie either, considering it was a tv movie.
|
The Shining screwed with my head when I was a kid, and it still continues to do so. And I'm talking about the real Jack Nicholson version, not Stephen Weber!
Rose Red is also a favorite. It kinda hits close to home because I actually have a place here in Honolulu that I can't step foot in. The worst Stephen King movie probably has to be "The Langoliers"...it starred Patricia Wettig from thirtysomething and Bronson Pinchot (Balkie Bartakamous from Perfect Strangers) and it was shown on ABC. It's often shown on USA and Sci Fi now. That IMDB site told me a lot of stuff I didn't know...like how he wrote one of my most favorite movies of all time -- Stand By Me! |

Best: The SHINING!!! That movie scares the bejeezus out of me every time!
Honorable mention: Carrie, The Stand (which objectively sucks, but I appreciate it for Molly Ringwald and pure kitsch value) Worst: Thinner is an awful, awful movie Rasberries go to: - The Stephen King version of The Shining. Not only was Steven Weber just not believable, the kid in that movie was NOWHERE near as talented as that original kid. - Sleepwalkers? I think that was the name of the movie- with Alice Krige and Brian Krause? And they're like some form of werecat? And Brian Krause is trying to bang and kill Madchen Amick? That movie is awful |
I forgot all about The Shining and FireStarter. The Shining scared the crap out of me everytime.
I absolutely love FireStarter (Drew Barrymore played the little girl - no?). I would yell out "Burn them bastids!!!". :p :o Creepshow was a doozy, especially the story with the big bugs.  |
The Best: Misery and The Shawshank Redemption
The Worst: Pet Semetary (sp?) http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/wink/smily012.gif |
Carrie was my favorite....."They're all gonna laugh at you!"
The Stand was my second favorite....not GREAT, but it was the first miniseries event of my youth. Roots came out before I was born, and V came out when i was too young to appreciate it. Least favorite..... Cat's Eye. (Wasn't that him?) |

I didn't realize that Salem's Lot was a Stephen King movie. That movie scared the crap out of me. I think that I had to sleep with the light on.
My sisters and I always say, "They're all gonna laugh at you!" just like the mother in the Sissy Spacek movie. Whenever that movie is on, people tell me I look like Carrie. Weird because I don't see it. |
LOL Thinner, how could i foget that piece of garbage...? As bad as it is i think Langoliers takes the cake, King shouldn't have bothered with the cameo, knowing that he saw the script for that piece of garbage doesn't help.

I can't believe I forgot Salem's Lot! That was my first Stephen King movie...I was spending the night at a friends house, we weren't allowed to watch it (it was on cable-and cable was new, if that tells anyone how long ago this was). We snuck into the room & watched it from behind my friend's Dad's chair....scared me so bad, I couldn't sleep for days.

I still can't watch Salem's Lot. When it first came out, I was with a group of friends playing cards. Someone decided we should watch it while we played. It scared me so much I had to sit with my back to the tv as we kept on playing cards.
To this very day, when Salem's Lot comes on tv some wiseass calls me up and says "Want to play cards tonight???" |
I thought Storm of the Century was just plain old AWFUL!!! It dragged on and on and on and it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Plus the guy in it was super creepy.
|
I just read an interview w/Rob Lowe on Eonline, where he says he just did a remake of Salem's Lot...as he put it:
"I just got back from doing a fantastic version of Stephen King's Salem's Lot with Andre Braugher, one of my favorite actors, and Donald Sutherland and Samantha Mathis." Oooooh....cool cast! I hope it doesn't suck. |
