Greek Family Members?

Hey all :)

My (biological) little sister got a bid at Theta this week! She is so excited :) I remember my new member period, and I am jealous that she is about to embark in such an important part of her life.

I was wondering what family members everyone had in GLOs? My other sister is a DPhiE, and I have a cousin who is Sigma Kappa, and another who is Phi Kappa Sigma.

I'm the only social Greek in my family. My brother was in a business fraternity at OSU, but he went inactive.

erniegurl00 10-04-2003 01:47 PM

I originally thought I was the only greek in my family, but then I did some investigating! My uncle was a Pike, two of my cousins were Phi Kappa Tau, and my other cousin was a Phi Mu.

ThetaPrincess24 10-04-2003 05:05 PM

congrats on your sister becoming a Theta!!!!!!!!! :)

My aunt is Zeta Tau Alpha, my Father is Sigma Chi, and my cousins are Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Kappa Tau.

efcheerBB 10-04-2003 05:18 PM

I too am the only greek in my family as far as I know. But with my family, I can never know for sure

sherbertlemons 10-04-2003 05:23 PM

I'm the only Greek in my family, to my knowlege. My little sister's in her sophomore year of hs, though, so hopefully that will change soon.

MeLikey 10-04-2003 05:30 PM

My sister's a Delta Gamma and my cousin's a Kappa Alpha Theta.

Livvy8 10-04-2003 05:36 PM

I'm an Alpha Sigma Alpha and my little brother is a freshman this year and is thinking of going Greek - Kappa Sigma, he hopes....we are the only ones in my family to go to college, maybe we're starting a tradition...

aephi alum 10-04-2003 05:40 PM

As far as social GLOs go, I'm it. My mom went to school overseas, my dad is anti-greek, my husband rushed but didn't find a good fit, and I'm pretty sure no one in his family went greek either.

My husband is a member of a couple of professional fraternities, though.

Rio_Kohitsuji 10-04-2003 07:23 PM

I think I'm the only one to go Greek. Most of my cousins either went to non-greek colleges or the armed services. But, I know my 12 year old neice will be rushing when she reaches college :D

RACooper 10-04-2003 08:31 PM

My little sister is a Gamma Phi Beta

ZHLyreGirl 10-04-2003 10:46 PM

My dad, a Sigma Pi from Loyola, and myself are the only greeks in the family (extened, both sides) that i know of.

KDbutterfly 10-04-2003 10:52 PM

My Dad is a Kappa Sigma, my cousin is a Phi Kappa Psi and my great uncle is a Sigma Nu. I'm hoping that my brother will choose to go greek as well. :D

ADPiSAI 10-04-2003 11:00 PM

I'm the first one. My parents weren't, none of my cousins ever made it through any sort of real university, and I can pretty much guarantee that my aunts and uncles weren't Greek...

Kevin 10-04-2003 11:37 PM

One grandfather was Beta Theta Pi. The other was Sigma Epsilon. My father was Phi Kappa Sigma, my mother was Gamma Phi Beta. My younger brother is Alpha Tau Omega.

Firehouse 10-04-2003 11:49 PM

My father was a Beta Theta Pi. My brother, five uncles, two cousins are all Pikes.

GPhiLlama 10-05-2003 02:02 AM

My dad was in a local business frat at Loyola (yes, heh, I'm going to the same school), one of my cousins is a Phi Psi also at Loyola, and another one of my cousins is a Delta Gamma at LSU, and I forgot what frat her brother is in. I'm the only one of my sibs who's a Greek, though.

PSUSigKap 10-05-2003 03:06 AM

my mother, 2 aunts, grandmother, and great aunt + me are sigma kappas, my uncle is a pi kappa alpha, my father is a theta chi, my grandfather is a delta tau delta, and my little sister is a kappa alpha theta. we're one big fat greek family ;)

lawryn 10-05-2003 11:39 AM

as far as i know i'm the only one to join a sorority, although i do have alot of distant cousins that i know hardly anything about...

DZPrincess2003 10-05-2003 12:53 PM

As far as I know I'm the first Greek in our family as well! Delta Zeta!

Me: Alpha Sigma Alpha
Dad: Pi Kappa Phi
Mom: Delta Gamma
Sister: Delta Zeta
Boyfriend: Sigma Chi
Cousin: Pi Kappa Phi
Cousin: Alpha Sigma Alpha
Cousin: Alpha Sigma Alpha

I love coming from a large, greek family (esp. with so many fellow ASA's!) :)

AXiDMandi 10-05-2003 01:55 PM

So far there's only me in Alpha Xi Delta, one cousin is Alpha Sigma Tau at U of I @ Chicago and another is an Alpha Phi @ Villanova. No fraternity guys yet lol. I'm trying to think but I'm pretty sure none of my aunts or uncles were in anything greek [my moms one of 13]. There are 35 cousins and there aren't that many in college yet so i'm sure there will be plenty more.

CardinalSM 10-05-2003 07:37 PM

Mom: ZTA
Aunt: ZTA
Grandmother: Chi O
Grandmom: AOPi
Great Grandmother: AOPi
Dad: Pike
Uncle: Pike
Grandad: SAE
Granddaddy: Lambda Chi
Great Granddad: SAE

And I found a KA badge in my dad's family things, so somebody on his side was a KA and we haven't figured out who yet. . .

I love coming from a Greek family!

AOIIforever 10-05-2003 07:40 PM

I just found out that my Great Aunt was an AXO, but other than that, its just me, an AOII and my sister, a Sigma Kappa new member.

TechADPI 10-05-2003 07:55 PM

Me: ADPi
Sister-in-law: ADPi
Brother: Theta Chi

and that's all that I know of...

SigK_Bama 10-05-2003 09:14 PM

My husband is a KA and the only greek in his family. I'm the only greek in my family, with the exception of my mom who was in a local sorority called (of all things) Alpha Tau Omega when she was in her small college.:)

AUDeltaGam 10-05-2003 09:34 PM

My aunt is an Alpha Epsilon Phi

IvySpice 10-05-2003 11:27 PM

Not a very Greek family.

My father was a Phi Sigma Delta (a Jewish fraternity that later merged into ZBT).

My cousin is a Chi Omega.

As far as I know, that's it.

ztabchbum 10-06-2003 09:36 AM

Myself and my mother are both ZTA's from the same school. My dad and older brother are both Sigma Nu's - dad went to Mount Union, brother went to TCU. Now, my step mom and all of her 5 brothers and sisters are greek as well but I couldn't even begin to tell you which orginizations because I don't even have the slightest clue. So that makes 9 Greek memebers in my family. The only reason my younger brother isn't greek is because he goes to VMI - BUT funny thing is, Sigma Nu was founded at his school. :) Oh! I also have a step brother that will be heading off to college in a year and I'm betting that he'll go Greek.

Editted to note: My chapter's general advisor is the 13th generation Zeta Tau Alpha in her family - talk about PRIDE! \^^^/

AOTTAdvisor 10-06-2003 10:56 AM

Me:AOTT
Dad:Kappa Sigma
Grandmother:Alpha Phi
Grandfather:SAE
Grandfather:Sigma Chi
Aunt:Sigma Sigma Sigma
Aunt:Chi O
Aunt:Alpha Delta Pi
Cousin:Pi Beta Phi
Cousin:SAE

I guess thats a pretty big extended greek family!

strawberrysismd 10-06-2003 03:07 PM

as far as i know, one of my cousins on my mom's side is the only other greek family member; the thing is, my mom doesn't talk to her sisters, so we don't talk to our cousins, so i don't know too much about it; one of cousins on my dad's side is a sophomore this year at a school in california; when she came out here in may she was talking about rushing and asking me all these questions; i am the only member in my immediate family who is a greek; when i first joined, it was kind of frustrating for me, because my parents and siblings just didn't understand and were not very supportive; but since then, they have seen how important my house is to me and they all support me in it

nhpgator 10-07-2003 11:41 AM

I am an AOII
my sister is an AOII
My grandmother is an AOII
My brother is a Delta Tau Delta
my husband was a PIKE pledge and lived in the house but was never initiated -(not sure how that happened but he played football so i think they just liked having him around??)
My mother in law is a Theta
My father in law is a Kappa Sigma
my aunt is a Chi O
My uncle is a KA
my cousin is a Chi O
my cousin is a Chi O
My cousin is an ADPi
My niece is an ADPi
My cousin is a KA
My cousin is a KA
My unlce is a Sigma Chi
My cousin is a Pi Kappa Phi
my soon-to-be-sister-in-law (is that family??) is a Kappa

these are just the immediate kinda see everyday family - not sure about the rest...

Nikki_DZ 10-07-2003 12:21 PM

My husband is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, and a founding brother of Epsilon Tau Pi (local at University of Dayton).

My godmom/aunt is an AOTT.

That's about it.

etahannah 10-07-2003 12:25 PM

my brother just signed his bid for SAE. i am super exicted for him and that i can add another greek name to my family. Cause i was the only one right now!! i have been pushing greek life to him for about a year now and i am super excited that he found his home and the group of guys that he likes!! yeah for greek life!!

***dances a DG and SAE dance***

MysticCat 10-07-2003 01:08 PM

Me: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
Dad: Kappa Sigma
Mom: went to a non-Greek school
Sister: Phi Mu
Her Husband: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
Brother: not Greek (his wife went to a non-Greek school)
My Wife: Kappa Kappa Gamma
Her Dad: Kappa Sigma
Her Mom: Pi Beta Phi
Her Sister: Zeta Tau Alpha

Add to that a grandfather (no longer living) who was a Beta, an uncle who is a Beta, an uncle who is an Alpha Tau Omega, a cousin who is a Theta and a cousin-in-law who is a Sinfonian.

That's 9 fraternities/sororities altogether, with 3 Sinfonians! And I have the 1880's-era Pike badge that my great-grandfather gave to my great-grandmother when they were "courting."

TexasOphiA 10-09-2003 02:18 AM

My sister is in the same sorority and same chapter as me.
My cousin is a ZTA.
That's all as far as I know

SparkliiQTMTSU 10-09-2003 09:16 PM

Im pretty sure Im the only one in my family that has considered going greek. I dont think that anyone on either side of my family is greek. Oh well. Hopefully my kids will start a new tradition :)

Nichole

socialbutterfly 10-10-2003 12:50 AM

My cousin and I were pledge sisters, a few cousins are Sigma Lambda Gamma, Sigma Lambda Beta, Sigam Chi, Phi Kappa Theta and one Alpha Phi Alpha....I can't think of any one else.....

deadbear80 10-10-2003 01:05 AM

Me--Delta Gamma (Washington U. in St. Louis)
Sister--Chi O (Drake U.--now closed chapter)
Mom--Alpha Epsilon Phi (President at U of Michigan Chapter)
Dad--ZBT (University of Michigan)
Brother-in-law--AEPi (Drake U.--now closed)
Aunt--Alpha Epsilon Phi (Northwestern U.--now closed)
Cousin--ZBT (University of Michigan)
Distant Cousin--Alpha Epsilon Phi (University of Illinois)

I think it's funny how in my immediate family no one has pledged the same sorority/fraternity...
It's also funny to hear my Dad and cousin talk about ZBT stuff, since they're both members of the same chapter--things are DEFINITELY different there than when my dad was in the Chapter:)
