Have y'all tried Boca???

A good friend of mine recommended Boca Burgers to me a while ago and I never tried them. Well, I decided to pick some up at the grocery store, along with some Boca Italian Sausages. I tried one of the Italian Sausages and MAN--it was the bomb!!! I think I'm going to be hooked!!! I haven't tried the Boca Burgers yet (I got Roasted Onion), but I bet they're just as good.

Have y'all had 'em?

darling1 10-02-2003 07:30 AM

Don't Like 'em

I have tried them but I like Garden Burgers better..umm. My hubby loves Boca Burgers. He swears by them!!!

lovelyivy84 10-02-2003 08:54 AM

I am with you on the Boca burgers!

Thos things are great tasting AND full of fiber!

toocute 10-02-2003 09:27 AM

YUMMY

Yes Boca burgers are the BOMB and with Weight Watchers they are only 1-2 points each.

FeeFee 10-02-2003 10:47 AM

Lemme find out I have to go looking for these Boca burgers. :)

Gurl...put those puppies on a one point hamburger bun (Wonder Light) and you have a 2-3 point SAMMICH. Pair it with some BAKED french fries (2 pts) HEAVEN.

recentASAalum 10-02-2003 02:31 PM

not to crash your board... but.... I'm a vegetarian and I love boca burgers... get the cheesburger kind or the original kind and throw them on the grill or the George Foreman... put a piece of cheese on top and you can hardly tell they aren't real meat!!! don't put them in the microwave like it says you can in the box!!! they are disgusting!!!

BirthaBlue4 10-02-2003 04:53 PM

You might also wanna try Morningside Farms, their veggie burgers are like that. They have breakfast patties (fake sausages) that are SOOOOOOOOO good. I'm nota vegetarian, and I love them. These and Garden Burgers are the best. Boca's are ok, but they have an odd twange. Morningstar has one called Grillers and Grillers Prime, taste like a burger, for real. Those and the Spicy Black Bean, are the best. You can substitute the Spicy Black Bean (not that spicy) in Mexican, and you wouldn't know the difference.

Wonderful1908 10-02-2003 05:05 PM

I have had Boca Burgers and they are pretty good but recentASAalum is right, they taste way better if you DO NOT put them in the microwave. Once you put all your garnishes and condiments on them they are great!

Prissfit1908 10-02-2003 05:33 PM

The burgers are good, but...

Have you guys tried the "corn dogs"? I think Morningstar makes them... They are yummy and no one would ever guess they're meatless. I eat meat, but it's something about the concept of regular hot dogs that I just CANNOT wrap my brain around. I don't do mystery meat!

Morningstar also makes really great "chicken wings"... They taste like chicken, and they are nice and spicy. I was a vegetarian for a year, so I investigated lots of meat substitutes... ;)

BirthaBlue4 10-02-2003 07:44 PM

Yeah, I forgot about the chicken wings. They are good too. Oh, and the pizza taste SOOOO real. Morningstar makes them too.

Been a Vegetarian for 7 years...

If you take the Boca's and lightly sautee them with some onions and the Hain's Vegetarian Brown sauce and add some rice or mashed potatoes, mmmm, mmmm good...

If you take Morningstar Farms (a Kellogg's company) round sausages, and take the firm tofu with fresh salsa and pico de gallo sauce, cilantro and Tofurella, both the cheddar and the mozzarella, you've got like a western omelette type of deal... Good breakfast in the morning. Too bad my husband is allergic to raw tomatoes...

If you get the Veggitino's meatballs or Yves' meatball--you've got spaghetti and meatballs...

If you grill the Gardenburger's Riblet---hmmmmm good...

If you take the baked tofu and skewer it with fresh veggies... then grill it...

If, if, if...

I am getting good at adapting recipes...

The thing is, all the Vegetarian faux meats are not truly vegan, until they specify. Yves, Loma Linda, Worthington Farms, Veggie (something) and Nature's (something) make vegan style foods.

Some of the Chinese and Indian foods are vegan. And if you goto the Asian markets, they really sell the vegan vegetarian stuff.

Morningstar, Boca and Gardenburger puts cheese, milk products and eggs in their vegetarian preps... But if you all don't have a problem with it, then hey... Welcome to the Veggie Delite World!!!

Dang... I put mine in the microwave! I didn't know. And I still thought they were good! So I KNOW when I do them on my grill they are going to be OFF THE CHAINS!!!

I saw the Morningside stuff, but I missed the sausage pattie thingies. And I was looking for turkey sausage or something. I'm going to have to try those, too.

PrettyKitty 10-03-2003 11:30 AM

You know I really appreciate how Burger King has come up for vegetarians...to have a veggie burger on the menu....Although I am soooo addicted to the morningstar farms breakfast items that I wish one fast food chain would do the same for breakfast.....what a wonderful morning it would be!

Sistermadly 10-03-2003 12:00 PM

People on Weight Watchers swear by them, but I've never bought them. Maybe I should give them a try.

LOL. I still mainly eat meat, but...has anyone tried a "tofurkey?" It's tofu flavored to resemble turkey and it tastes decent. My sister made it for my nephew's (now former, thank goodness  ) GF last Thanksgiving. I had some of it, and it wasn't too bad.

Let's not get it twisted, lol, I LOVE meat. I'm just trying to introduce some alternatives to my pallet.

IvySpice 10-05-2003 10:56 PM

Morningstar Farms also makes EXCELLENT "chik'n patties." They are just like fried chicken patties, but made of soy protein. You can't make them in the microwave; you just stick them in the toaster oven till they're crispy. Put that on a bun with your toppings -- lettuce & tomato, honey mustard sauce, ketchup, whatever. It's a great meal and doesn't have all the saturated fat of real chicken patties.

Sugar_N_Spice 10-06-2003 03:58 AM

My sister is a vegan, and she turned me on the Morning Star and the Boca Burgers, along wwith lots of other stuff (soy milk, tofu, etc.) some years ago...I love them, and am trying to wean myself off of meat completely (I still eat chicken, fish, turkey, and seafood, but I haven't eaten red meat or pork for over 9 years).

I really like the Boca Burgers, and well as Morning Star's hot wings...

SIAsensacion 10-06-2003 11:05 AM

When i saw this board i just HAAAAD to reply.
I absolutely LOVE boca burgers!!!! When I was at home in the US this summer, I ate them almost every day for lunch. I know most people on this board have said not to microwave them, but I still thought they tasted good in the microwave and maintained more of their juices. If you pair up the boca burger with a slice of the vegetarian cheese (can't remember the brand name, but its made out of soy instead of dairy and comes in individually wrapped slices, pepper jack is my favorite flavor) and some kc masterpiece BBQ sauce on a toasted wheat bun (or 2 slices of bread since I almost never had buns lol) then they are soooooo good. I don't know about plain microwaved boca burgers, but I know with cheese and bbq sauce they were sooooooooooo good.

mmmmmmmmm this is making me hungry! i miss boca burgers soooo much!! but they are $10 a box in China at the western supermarkets, and I refuuuuuuuuuuuse to pay that much, so I guess I'll have to wait until June.

Also, I saw someone say something about Chinese food on this board, so I just wanted to say this as a warning: vegetarianism is almost unheard of in China, and most Chinese dishes (at least in China) are NOT vegetarian, even if they seem to be. The same utensils/dishes/pots/pans are used to cook everything, and a lot of times there is meat flavoring in "vegetable" dishes, so just be careful when it comes to Chinese food.

I tried them...

I like Morningstar Farm's or Worthington Farm's...

Loma Linda's takes time to acquire the taste of theirs.

But my favorites are as I mentioned above.

I have and I don't care for them that much.

I do love the Boca burgers (Cheeseburger and Garlic)

kiml122 10-08-2003 07:44 AM

Ok, after reading Ideal's post about Boca Burgers and seeing everyone's response I finally had to breakdown and buy some. I use to see these in the market all the time but would always pass by them. Well I got some yesterday, and I must say they were off the chain. I didn't read the post about not putting them in the microwave, and it still tasted very good. I'm not saying I will try all that soy stuff, but the burgers were fantastic.

I agree. The BK veggie burger is grotesque. Surprisingly, McDonald's  veggie burger is so yummy. I eat them all the time.

It's taste like a Boca burger to me. Expensive though. The same price as a quarter pounder.

When did McDonald's get veggie burgers?????

And I LOVE some meat, but veggie burgers are good too without the extra fat.

pretty edAKAted 10-11-2003 12:26 PM

I had a boca sub sandwich from Blimpies'. The only reason I tried it was because where I live, we get free coupons in the mail every month to try the restaurants around our area. Might I add... it was MMMmmmmmmmmm Good!!:)

Also during that week I pretended I was a vegetarian and ate no meat whatsoever and lost 7 lbs!! hooray for me!!:D

Ideal08 11-14-2003 03:49 PM

I LOVE the Boca Smoked Sausages!!! Tastes JUST like kielbasa!!

9dstpm 11-15-2003 02:03 AM

Hubby and I love the Boca Spicy Chicken as well as the breakfast sausages. We always end up fussing over who ate the last one and didn't buy anymore. :)

ClassyLady 11-17-2003 10:35 AM

I just bought some of the All-American grilled burgers last night based on this thread. I'll weigh in on Boca after I try them. I had planned to cook them up for lunch today but, of course, I bought burgers and no buns and I don't think white bread is going to do it.

Conskeeted7 11-17-2003 06:46 PM

I think Morningstar Farms is much more flavorful than Boca...just a few more spices or whatever. My mom got me started on them and now I can't get enough!!

Soror, so far I've only tasted the sausage patties and links and the pizza. I like the sausage patties the best. The links are just aight. But those patties were ON POINT!!

Conskeeted7 11-17-2003 06:56 PM

Soror Ideal, The sausage patties are good, but you've got to try the chicken patties also. They have plain and parmesean. Both of them are pretty good. I'm not too big on the pizza either, but that chicken is something serious!!

Soror, I know this is going to sound crazy, lol, I realize that. I don't think I could bring myself to eat the chicken patties. I don't like REAL chicken patties cuz it never looks like real chicken. I haven't had one since college. So I don't know about eating soy chicken, anyway. I've thought about it at the store, but I can't bring myself to buy them. Maybe one day, one day. :) Just the patties or the buffalo thingies, too? Would you recommend those, too?

This stuff comes in pretty handy. I only ate meat twice last week. So far this week, I did have some chicken yesterday. I want to see how my system acts without the meat.

Conskeeted7 11-17-2003 07:11 PM

You'd be surprised how well your body will adapt to less meat intake. I actually get full easier and faster when I eat the veggie substitutes. I'm not completely veggie, but those substitutes are a regular part of my diet.

Now, the wing dings are just okay to me. Nobody can compete with Friday's or BW3's in my book. So, morningstar didn't have a fightintg chance. But they are edible, don't get me wrong. Just don't expect Friday's when you nibble on the meatless wings.

Yeah, the patties look strange, but my mom made them for me one day when I was starving and she could've served me an old shoe and I think it would have looked good...so that's how I got started.....whatever it takes..lol
