Non-Drinkers?

.

Dionysus 09-29-2003 07:47 PM

I do drink on occasion, but I don't get drunk...ok maybe like once or twice.

honeychile 09-29-2003 09:20 PM

I'm not exactly a non-drinker, but it doesn't hold the allure for me that it once did. I'm supposed to be drinking a glass of wine every other day for a study in which I'm involved, and I have to leave a note for myself!

MereMere21 09-29-2003 09:24 PM

I remember drinking......and I remember not remembering drinking......I do know that I have no idea why I drank for so long, so thats why I don't anymore. I would drink for one night and have a migraine for 3 days - not worth it!

lawryn 09-29-2003 09:50 PM

i dont drink i got alcohol poisoning the first time i ever drank and started having seizures and i really didnt even drink that much....let's just say i learned my lesson :( and i figured out i cant really hold my alcohol and since then i'm a sipper i cant really finish anything :) which is strange in my family cause they are big drinkers

AGDee 09-29-2003 10:38 PM

I don't drink in general. Perhaps a glass of wine occasionally, but that's it. Since being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, I found that any drink makes my Crohn's flare up horribly. When I tell most people that I'm doing fine and the only trigger I have is alcohol, some say "Oh my gosh, that's awful", but to me, it's not a big deal. It's just not something I need to do, ever.

Mr. KR doesn't drink alcohol of any kind, nor coffee, nor soda. The only things he drinks are fruit juice and water. He just doesn't like the taste of the other stuff.

That's fine with me except it would be nice to split a bottle of wine sometimes when we go out for dinner.

ucfcutie 09-29-2003 11:46 PM

I would say that I am a social drinker! I do know my limits...

AlphaSigOU 09-30-2003 12:31 AM

Back in my younger days I could go out and get trashed on a regular basis. After a few incidents caused by getting wasted (no DUIs, thank you) I don't drink as much as I used to. I'll have the occasional beer, wine or mixed drink, but I know my limits.

Antinaris 09-30-2003 06:04 AM

I'm not a big drinker... Sometimes in the end of day I like drinking a glass of good wine... It contains many vitamins...

navane 09-30-2003 06:20 AM

I'm like you, Ariesrising, I don't even like the taste of alcohol. To me, beer tastes like rotten grain (which it is) and wine tastes like cough syrup or something. I can sort of handle champagne and cider....but only in small amounts. At least they taste "decent enough."

HOWEVER, I have a much more personal reason for not drinking any alcohol at all - I lost my mother to alcoholism 4 and a half years ago. I have to say it really sucks to lose a mother that way - especially since she had called up a recovery home to enroll literally a couple hours before she died. Even if I liked the taste of alcohol (which I don't) I don't want to drink it lest I find myself in the same position. After all, research has shown a genetic link for alcoholism. To me, any health benefits alcohol may provide are not worth the risk.

Most people are pretty cool with my not drinking alcohol. Those who press me to drink and ask me why I'm "not any fun" are quickly silenced once I finally give in and explain my reasons.

To each his own I suppose.

I drink very infrequently (dinner with the family, night out with the girls) and I have never been drunk. I hate beer and I don't do shots. I pretty much only have wine or mixed drinks.

Optimist Prime 09-30-2003 10:19 AM

I don't drink. Bad liver.

GeekyPenguin 09-30-2003 11:27 AM

I don't drink very often because there is a long history of alcoholism in my family. I discovered freshman year that I can drink far too much without anything happening so now I try to limit myself. I did drink at a wedding this weekend, but I just had some champagne, wine coolers, and Smirnoff - I try not to drink the hard stuff after an incident my freshman year when I made blue UV vomit. :p

sueali 09-30-2003 12:29 PM

i don't drink either, I used to drink but stopped when I was a sophomore in college. I don't like the taste, plus I am a very small person and it doens't take much to get me drunk, and being drunk is really not appealing. My dad is a recovered alcoholic and I hate it when my boyfriend drinks too much, which he doesn't do very often since he knows it really bothers me.

smiley21 09-30-2003 12:33 PM

i dont drink cause well i dont want to. i used to drink the light stuff like wine coolers and strawberry daquiris. but now i just have no interest in drinking. people can drink all they want around me but it does sway me one bit. i hate the thought of getting drunk. i know i dont have to be drunk, but i just dont want to be in that position. people think that i am strange cause i am 21 and not at the bars. but i couldnt care less.

I get hammered every time my friends and I go out.:D Those sauer-apple martinis go down so easily. I can slam an apple martini in less than 5 seconds.

tunatartare 09-30-2003 04:15 PM

I used to drink a lot, but now I can't have any alcohol at all because of my heart. :( I also can't have any caffeine either, which sucks majorly especially since chocolate has caffeine in it.

I really enjoy getting tanked after a long week on friday, even if i have to work saturday. I just don't see the point in drinking casually, from a health reason - might as well get destroyed if you're gonna drink.

I'll have to remember it. The last time i passed out in some field of 3 foot growth, i couldn't help but think how comfortable it was all by myself in god's wilderness....I think that's how adam stumbled on the garden of eden.

cashmoney 09-30-2003 06:01 PM

I've passed out in the grass a few times. And I can't even begin to count the number of times I got tanked and couldn't remember shiiiiiit from the night before. There's been a few times where I didn't even remember what went on all week, I was on Zanex all week.

Kevin 09-30-2003 07:26 PM

I was a non-drinker from 9/1 through 9/28.

I'm not a drinker at all.....my sisters saw me drink three times so far, and one was at formal. My date tried to get me drunk, but it didn't work (I wouldn't let him LOL). I just don't enjoy it

MareImbrium 10-02-2003 04:11 AM

Ick. I cannot take alcohol very well in any shape or form. It's not a pretty sight and I've realized that. So I don't drink anymore, not even the tiniest drop. Although I do remember one time, I went to a communion service. The pastor said one side was grape juice and the other side was wine. I didn't know he was serious so I just stood in the wine line. Lo and behold! It was wine!!! UGGGGH. It tasted horrible! Oh my gosh. Couldn't get rid of the after taste..haha. Anyway looks like I'll always be the designated driver.

MareImbrium 10-02-2003 04:13 AM

Furthemore, I don't know how people can stand the taste of alcohol! I tried whiskey (Crown Royal) and ewwwwwwwwwwww. Is it a taste you just get used to or what? I'm fine with mixed drinks but all the straight stuff I absolutely cannot stand the taste.
