What do you love most about .....

Hello everyone. (Before I post this question, I want everyone to know I'm a very serious sisterfriend and I mean no disrespect, I'm just starting a new topic.)

What do you love most about your organization? I've noticed the happy and satisfied look and every member's face that I've encountered, and I just wanted to hear about the more personal, positive aspects that you guys can share comfortably. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I love the fact that there are many of us are a part of something that is truly RARE.
We may not always AGREE on everything, but the FACT still remains, we are still one of EHTEL'S girls! We are ALL SISTERS!

I love this organization because of the bond that I share with my Sorors. I have many friends and family members, whom I am very close, yet when one of them also is MY SOROR, I cannot begin to describe what that is like. It is MORE than JUST being a friend, cousin, etc. It is something so POWERFUL, that noone can understand unless she, too, is a Soror.

Finally, I love how the organization continues to BLAZE TRAILS 92, almost 93 years after its conception. Sorors are continuing "service to all mankind" ALL over the world in the name of ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED via activities, programs, donations, services, etc!

NOW, WHY WOULD SORORS NOT LOOK SATISFIED OR HAPPY?

exquizit 11-20-2000 11:18 PM

LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif I never expected them to be unhappy or unsatisfied! I love that answer! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

This is close to impossible for me to answer, but I'll try. There are just SO many things to love about our sisterhood, I'll try to keep it brief! I think that the first thing is the sisterhood itself. So sincere, and so rare. It's beautiful, so much so, my eyes are tearing as I type this. The next thing is the impact we have on the community, simply by existing. Imagine if we did absolutely nothing (I know it's hard, but try! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ). Simply allowing our Black youth to see professional women who look like them is such a great step and helps lift their hopes and self-esteem. Now add in the "service to all mankind," WHEW!!! We truly are Blazing Trails. I think that Soror AKA2D'91 said it best, "It is something so POWERFUL, that no one can understand unless she, too, is a Soror." Aah, I Love my A-K-A, I love it, I love it, I LOVE it!!!!!

I agree with everything my sorors have said. However, I also take comfort in the fact that AKA stands on her own and continues to grow stronger. She commands attention and people take notice. Her beauty, grace, and sophistication are unsurpassable. Constantly BLAZING NEW TRAILS, she is the epitome of sisterhood and service to all mankind.

I agree with the positive aspects my sorors touched on, however what I truly love about our beautiful sisterhood is the fact that we represent the full spectrum of the African-American female, all shades, shapes and sizes Alpha Kappa Alpha women are so diverse it is wonderful to see that diversity work for a common bond, of service to all mankind.

I like this topic Sisterfriend http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

The thing that I like most about being an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman is refreshing myself on history and reliving what it means to wear the pearls.

Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha,
It is always a joy to feel the love that you have for your sisterhood. It is that feeling that keeps sisterfriends like myself continuing to strive for AKA. I know that one day I too will be able to express my love for AKA as a member. And when that day comes OH what a day it will be!! Continue the excellent work you do on behalf of her and in this season of Thanksgiving be grateful for the opportunity to be part of something sooo great and so highly sought after. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Much love to all,
Kisses

PositivelyAKA 11-22-2000 01:36 AM

i like this topic http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif what i love most about AKA is the sisterhood that i share with sorors all over the world. its an immediate connection that is generally so sincere. second i love that i get to serve my community in the name of God first and then AKA. i tell you picking up trash on the side of the road is alot more fun when singing songs with the sorors http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif, its true you don't need to be greek to do service, but when the sorors of AKA serve people take notice despite the negative comments or stereotypes that some still want to connect us with.

This is NOT what is meant by "not conceited, just convinced."

I love the colors Pink and Green ...
Okay I am just joking, but really I love to walk into a room filled with Sorors wearing Pink and Green, and I love when I step into that same place knowing we are about to commence the business of Alpha Kappa Alpha.

AKA is a part of my personal and business life. I love to be walking on the street in say Disney World (mind you I am from NYC) and have a Soror say hello and then we start to chat. And then to enjoy that same love when you meet someone at work that is also a Soror, which I just had the pleasure of doing!!
It is the instant comradery that I enjoy, it is the Networking, and the sister that you biologically may not have or are not too close to, also it is having a friend there all the time no matter where you are. It is meeting a Soror on the internet and then visiting her home town and she inviting you into her home and taking you to church with her. It is making plans with a Soror you have never met, to share a hotel room with her. It is also having a person that is real with you, telling you when you need to leave that 0 (zero) in your life. Now all of these things, except sharing a hotel room with someone you don't know can exists through high-school friends, but I have found them in the Alpha Kappa Alpha women that I have met ... and I have enjoyed every minute of my 2 years in this GRAND sorority. And believe you me, I can go on and on about her.
One last thing is AKA is a learning experience and it is nice to learn along with other caring women that have the same goals for the organization.

So, I turned this into that is what AKA is to me but that is why I love her so much and that is why I always smile and wave to my pink and green sisters, oh and all Greek get a similar kind of love .... don't ask why....you have to be in it to understand.

snazzylady 11-23-2000 08:05 AM

I love the sisterhood
I love being with my sorors and just talking with them while sharing in community activities. I love going to conferences and seeing all those women who are determined to help make a change in someones life. I love meeting sorors and finding those common bonds. It's a fellowship sincere and rare that truly does spur it's members to victory.

I just love A-K-A!!

Are you new to Greekchat? We (Sorors et. al.) would love for you to introduce yourself. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

AKA_Monet 11-24-2000 08:33 PM

OKAY!!! There are many things I looovvvvveee about my Salmon Pink and Apple Green. But I gotta admit it, you just get too much love from the bruhs when you walk around in a different city and they recognize that you are an AKA! At least that's what I've constantly encountered when I'm nalia'ed out...

And it's funny 'cuz just like there are women who "jock" a brotha 'cuz of his colors, there are also men, that only want to speak to you 'cuz of your affiliations!!!

I have to admit it, most of my sorors got it goin' on and hookin' it up and bruhs know thissss--Especially when they are serioussss...

Ideal08 05-01-2003 08:32 AM

ttt...

Oh the things you find... lovely thread... what do our new GC Sorors think? :)

mela3 05-01-2003 12:48 PM

My my, ideal this is a lovely thread!!!
I love Alpha Kappa Alpha for so many reasons. Dearest to my heart though is sisterhood. You can travel all over the world trying to meet people who have values, ideals, dreams, motivations, and expectations similar to yours. All I have to do to find this is to meet a soror. Sorors have a bond. This bond allows me to meet people, people i've never met before, who understand and accept me just the way i am. I know when I met Soror ideal08, I felt like we clicked. I felt as if we were on the same page and I could share my hopes and dreams with her. I feel this same feeling when I met other sorors. This is what make me so happy to be a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
