When You Have Kids . . .

For all of those childless Greek colleagues out there, what do you want to name your kids when and if you want to have them?

Mine will be named:

Elisabeth Anne (after my mom) and
Frankie Jean (after my 2 grandmas)

rainbowbrightCS 09-25-2003 10:00 PM

I plan on adopting, so I will name my children after Christian virtues and something from their bological(sp) family...

example.
Hope Jade, Jade from Asia if I adopt a little Asian girl.

All I want is girls.

After years of interviewing & people watching, I can honestly say that I have yet to meet someone named after a Christian virtue who personified that virtue! One of the biggest liars I've met is named Honor, I have never met a Gay, Joy, or Sunny who was the least bit cheerful, and don't even get me started about the Prudence I've met!!

And yet, I prefer that type of name myself....

AlphaSigOU 09-25-2003 10:48 PM

No wife, no kids in the picture right this minute. If I do marry and have kids, maybe Ian Fleming after my favorite author if it's a boy. I'll leave it to the wife to name it if it's a girl.

MeLikey 09-25-2003 11:14 PM

For girls, I like Chloe, Mandy, Lindsey, Crystal, Vanessa, Veronica

For boys, I like Dillon, Jason, Zack, Travis

Nikki_DZ 09-25-2003 11:20 PM

Well, since our little DZ or Phi Mu Alpha legacy is due March 18th, this is a hot topic around the house.

For a girl:
Teagan Rose

For a boy:
Liam Joseph

Right now we're just combining the names and referring to the baby as Te-am. Hopefully we'll find out the sex on October 30th *crosses fingers*.

For I girl I'd love Katherine Ingrid. (Yes, I am just dorky enough to name a child after Katherine Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman.) I also like Shirley, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Anne as names.

For a boy I like Isaac, Scott, Benjamin, Charlie, and Michael.

MareImbrium 09-26-2003 02:49 AM

I love the following names:

Girls: Serena, Rowena, Elizabeth, Kayla

Boys: Sebastian, Christopher, Nicholas

http://www.notwithoutmyhandbag.com/babynames/

"The following is a catalog of naming questions and suggestions posted on several different baby naming bulletin boards going back as far as early 2001. All entries are left unedited except for length.

As you will see, some parents-to-be have gone so far into the realm of baby-obsession they have lost track of the real, adult world. Their view is so skewed their only concerns are a) making their child "unique" and b) trying to keep the kid from being teased, often with terrible results.

Steel yourself, take a few deep breaths, and read."

ZTAngel 09-26-2003 09:44 AM

My boyfriend and I have already decided on this name for our daughter:

Andrea Arlene

She'll be named after his father who passed away this year (Andrew) and my aunt (Arlene) who passed away a year ago.

If we have more than one daughter, these are the names I like:

Brinly (or just Brinn)
Heather
Kate
Cassandra (Cassie)
Erin

Boys names:

Matthew
Dylan
Daniel

Munchkin03 09-26-2003 10:00 AM

Wow, am I the only person who doesn't think of this stuff?

My boyfriend and I have been together for a long time, and will probably be married within the next two to three years. Children, however, are a long way off. I still like being a baby myself! :)

honeychile 09-26-2003 10:36 AM

My generation is the very first in my family that doesn't have a John or a William in it, so I would want to name my son

John-William and use one of the family last names for the middle name (probably Hunter).

For a girl, I love the names Tabitha and Laura Lee.

For the record, Mr. honeychile (who shocked me that he even thought about this!) would want a son named after him, as he's the fourth (James Joseph), and a girl named either Jenna or Jillian.

The babies I miscarried but still had dedicated are Priscilla and Jacob.

White_Chocolate 09-26-2003 11:07 AM

that's hard

Girls
Riley Kamil
Carson Emma

Boys
Jude Emerson
Jax Spencer
Dillon

I have a long list but those are my favorite

Update:
My brothers have taken my interesting names for their kids
Keagan Rashelle (girl)
Scout Elisabeth (girl)
Conner Maxwell (boy)
Kai Brooke (girl)

Soon to be born:
Pheonix Colton
Nava Prynne
Dallas Caanan

Hugo and Yuli were overruled by my sister-in-law's parents

Shortly after my fiance and I became serious, we talked extremely hypothetically about baby names. I was shocked when he told me that he had his son's name picked out: Jonas. Luckily, ;) I like it too, and I think if we have a son, he will probably be

Jonas Alan

Girls names are harder... maybe because I have an "unusual" name I like the very classic names for girls.... Katherine, Mary, Elizabeth, etc. I'm leaning towards "E" names right now... Elizabeth, Eleanor, etc (that's not one of the names, hehe). I'd probably call her Ellie.

VIOLETGRL24 09-26-2003 04:22 PM

Girls:
Jordan, Ryan, Brooke, Brynn and Blake

Boys:
Brent, Michael, Preston ( my dad's name), Curtis and Frazier( my mom's madien name)

LXAAlum 09-26-2003 04:25 PM

Well, I hope these qualify, since I fall in the HAD, not have kids category - we have three:

Jared Patrick: Wanted a good strong Irish/Biblical name

Geoffrey Ian: More Irish!

TracyAnn Josephine: Middle name in honor of my grandmother, who died giving birth to my mother.

Good kids, all three - now 10, 8, and 2 respectively.

Before kids: "Life with kids will be a nightmare, our lives will change forever"

After kids: "Life with kids is an absolute blessing, our lives have changed, and I wouln't have it any other way."

AOTTAdvisor 09-26-2003 04:29 PM

Okay, I like the following names(and I LOVE names!)

Girls:

Meaghan
Gail
Lenora
Bailey
Tyler
Scottie
Wesley

I REALLY like guys names for girls! Am I weird??

sigmagrrl 09-26-2003 05:04 PM

I was actually thinking about this this morning....SPOOOKY!

juniorgrrl 09-26-2003 05:11 PM

For Girls:

Elisabeth
Caroline
Amélie

For boys:

Robert Bruce (after my father who died in 1994)
Evan

FI's sister-in-law is due in November and she's naming the baby Liam Christopher. No one seems to care that the name is the word "mail" spelled backwards. Thank god its not a girl, she was going to name it Lola. Sounds like a stripper!

polarpi 09-26-2003 05:20 PM

Names I like (now, only if the eventual Mr. Polar likes them too! :D):

Boys: Kevin, Ethan, Caleb
Girls: Rebecca, Marissa, Megan

dzandiloo 09-26-2003 05:23 PM

I have a Brian Patrick and Anna Corinne (not to be confused with Anna Karenina...). I'm done, but it I had anymore, I'd like to name a boy Cooper and a girl Cambley (after my college roomie). But like I said...I'm done reproducing, so those names will not be used by me!

smiley21 09-26-2003 05:23 PM

for girls, i like:

cadence michelle
alexandra nicole
alicia nicole
(i used to love the name 'ashton' for a girl, but due to a certain person who i cannot stand, i dont like that name anymore)

for boys:
hunter michael
or named after my husband

SSS1365 09-26-2003 05:41 PM

I'm a long way from having kids, I hope, but if we ever have a girl, I want to name her Olivia Adelle... Olivia because I think it's a beautiful name, and Adelle after my fiance's mom (her middle name).

I always had liked the name Isabel previously, but my future brother-in-law and his wife named their daugher Annabelle, and the names are just too similar :)

I have no idea what I would name a boy.

CatStarESP4 09-26-2003 05:44 PM

If and when I have them I will probably name them the following:

Miranda Ilysia (pronounced Ileesya)
Ivy Mariposa
Charlotte Emily
Ryan (haven't got the middle name figured out yet)
Future Hubby's namesake

http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili...e/ylinfant.gif

blueGBI 09-26-2003 06:13 PM

If I have kids (its in the really long term future) I would name them one of these collection of names;

Girls:
Ivory
Katrina
Natasha
Amelie
Viola (for my grandmom)
Monique
Dominique
Aimee

I like the for all to have the middle name of Michelle.

Boys:

Jacque
Richard
Kevin
Jamir
Gerald (for my Daddy :p )
Michael
Tarik

However, Ive been told by the fam that there will be no names of the Boomqueshia Tamareisha/Quantar Tyshon As'hole variety when I name my kids. (Like I would ever give them names like those anyway :p )

Tom Earp 09-26-2003 06:31 PM

Never had Kids, did not want kids! Thank god I did not have kids!

I have enough with the Kids on GC and The Chapter!

If did:

Butt one

Butt two

Butt three!

Why would I want more than one butt head?

aggieAXO 09-26-2003 09:30 PM

MereMere21 09-26-2003 10:25 PM

ok as soon as you and your significant other find out you are going to have a child all of YOUR names will be thrown out the window!

oh I hated her in high school or that was your husband's ex's name

or

that was what my ex named his son or he was such an ass in high school

Thats how I ended up with a son named Noah :D

The 1st thing my husband said when I told him we were having another baby was "shit we have to name another one!?!"

TriDeltaGal 09-27-2003 02:35 AM

I have to agree with Ginger as we must be "unusual" for liking traditional names. It is probably because my parents named me like the most popular name in 1981 and consequenly my two best friends are named the SAME name! No joke...it was not fun in high school walking down the halls together or cheerleading next to one another! Someone would call one of us and we all would turn...everyone thought it was hilarious except us!

For girls I like:
Caroline
Grace
Charlotte
Anne
Emily
Lauren

For Boys:
Andrew
Benjamin
Thomas
Michael

Oh, do I hear you on that one! My name is Tracy, just like a large number of other females born around 1966-1969. There were tons of Tracys (and every other conceivable spelling) in my high school and even in my DZ alumnae chapter three out of the five of us on Exec Board last year were named, you guessed it, Tracy! (usually referred to as "The Tracys" as in "Ask one of The Tracys if you have any questions)

BTW, TriDeltaGal, I love the classic names also. I even have a Caroline of my own :)

Totally true. I had names picked out since high school, Anna was my mom's name-she died when I was 15 & I still had to fight tooth and nail to get my husband to agree (he hated the name-thought it was too old fashioned). So I let him pick our son's name (with my approval), and we agreed Anna Corinne would be called "Cori"...but when she was born, his mother insisted on calling her Anna, and all of my friends did the same, so he lost out. (*evil laugh*).

Ethan Xavier
or
Dustin Xavier

Girls
Jolynn Ranee

Did anyone see the SATC rerun last night where a friend of the quad stole Charlotte's secret baby name? I can so see that happening! Sad, but weirdly true :o
