Newsy Stuff
Sometimes, little things happen to each of us, and we really don't have a place to tell anyone. I thought it might be nice if we could do that here, especially if it's something you only want to share with your sisters, not the whole GC crowd. But no ritual! ;)
I had a major triumph today. Being very fair, a redhead, and a former life guard, I had a skin cancer removed 18 months ago. I AM CLEAN!! I will still have to be checked every year (instead of 6 months, woo hoo!), and have another "probably nothing" biopsy to undergo, but I feel as if a 200 pound weight is off of my shoulders!! Praise the Lord!! |
Honey, as the daughter of a redhead, I know what you are going through! Congrats! I know it is a huge weight lifted off your shoulders.
And remember--- SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN! |
Thank you!! There was a poster of a baby girl with the face of an old woman, saying something about how badly your skin can be damaged by the age of 18. I carry a Neutragena facial sunblock in my purse ALL of the time! It's one thing to have a little "divot" on my back; it would be quite another thing if it was on my nose!
It doesn't help that there's melanoma in my family - at least 4 generations that I know of. This whole episode has really made me wake up and smell the sunscreen! :) |
Yay!!! I'm so glad to hear the good news honeychile!!!!
|
So glad that everything's turning out for the better, Honey! :)
Good news report for me of the day: I scored over a 100% on my Marriage and the Family Exam and my stats exam for today was pushed back until Monday, yay! :) |

Congratulations sisters on all of your accomplishments and triumphs!!!:)
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week! -Ryan |
5K Run for the Cure
A friend of mine, a Tri-Delta Alumna from Cal State Long Beach, experienced a breast cancer scare in 2001, and now she is running in a 5K to support the Komen Foundation.
Please pass this link on to those who might contribute, andwe can help my friend Rita raise money to run for a cure for this disease. http://www.active.com/donations/fun...key=Ritas5kRace Thank you! |
honeychile:
Wonderful news. I've actually been through exactly the same thing myself and so far I'm also clear. Thank God. However, I cannot say enough about sunblock: need it, wear it, live it, love it! Thanks for sharing such good news with your sisters. violets |

Other bit of news...I got fitted for contacts last week and have been struggling to get them in (scared to death to touch my eye!) I was fianlly able to get them in today, so I've been wearing them since about 11 this morning and it's so wonderful to not have to have glasses on 24-7 :D |

I had LASIK done two years ago - one of the best moves I've ever made in my life! The deciding factor was when I got up in the middle of the night in a hotel (I travel in preparation for my future career), walked smack into a wall and broke my orbital bone! It is pure heaven to get up and SEE!!!! :) |
I got a soft lens....getting them in was pretty difficult (as are getting them out), but I kept commenting today about how odd it was to not be wearing glasses :)
I have to go back and see the doctor tomorrow after I've been wearing them for 4+ hours....I have an astigmatism on one of my eyes, and he's hoping that he won't need to do anything more than the contacts I got. |
polarpi, what brand did you get? i have an astigmatism too, but i think i'm allergic to the brand i have now, or something... i'm trying to see what my other options are.
|
Honestly, I don't know what brand they are. These were actually supposed to be my "trial" pair before the doc ordered my real lenses, but today, I lost one of the contacts....I had to go in, and they're ordering a replacement lens, but now these are going to be my permanent ones, and I can't wear them until I get the replacement lens which we don't know when it'll be in...yippee

I'm always sorry to hear that someone else has gone through the worry etc of skin cancer, but I'm SO glad that you've gotten the "all clear" too!! |
Thank you honeychile. Yes I'm always glad I'm in "the clear" but every summer I have to explain to people why I never, ever have a tan. Small price really. And yes, this year has been chock full of family commitments. That's why I love coming to GC, it's such a different place, where people show so much enthusiasm for their organizations and for Greek Life in general. I find GC a pretty positive place, which is something I value. And of course the ADPi board is by far my favorite! :)
|
This is kind of ADPi-Random, so I thought I would just post it here:
I got my first Adelphean !!!! Yippee!!!! It's great!:) ETA: My chapter is also mentioned in it!!! On pg. 38 it talks a little bit about our trip to the Ronald McDonald House, and our sister who competed in the Miss Texas pagent! |
The adelphean is awesome, isn't it! I anxiously await each one to see whats happening with my sisters. Oh how I wish it was monthly....
|
Too Good....
Just had to bump this one...
Can't let it be buried! Let's keep this post alive!:D |
Hey guys...just a quick favor to ask of everyone....I'm in a Greek Bible Study w/ some of the sororities on campus here at UNO and one of the girls has been in the hospital for the last week. The doctors still don't know what's wrong w/ her, and in my history, when it takes this long to find out what's wrong, it's never good. So, if any of you are religious...or even if you aren't, please pray for her....we need all the support that we can get! I'll keep you updated with any new news that comes up! Thanks in advance!
Pi Love |
I'll definitely have her in my prayers... I hope everything's ok...
|
I got an A on my management exam!!! :)
|
I attended an open house event last week for NYU Stern MBA On the road in LA... they did a drawing for an application fee waiver and I WON!!!
:) $175 saved! Also, I get to meet the ladies of Upsilon and Alpha Theta in two weeks-- I am spending the weekend at their campuses for a couple of ADPi events!I can't wait to meet the two chapters and the area alumnae! Go Washington ADPi's! :) |
Prayers to your friend, UNLADPI, sincerely.
Way to go, texas*princess!! Adpiucf, that's wonderful about winning the waiver!! Have you ever been to Washington State before? It's beautiful!! I do wish I had been able to stop in at UoW's house when I was in Seattle so much, but never got a chance to do so. Lucky you!! |
Leaving tomorrow to visit family and friends and SISTERS back in Indiana for a week (yay, no school! :D)
So thrilled to get the opportunity to visit with some of my sisters, at least for a day or so (and get to spend time with my <> sis!!!) |
the Gamma Upsilon chapter won (Sigma Chi's) Derby Days!!!!
There is no official word yet on how much we won for the Ronald McDonald House, but every bit counts! :) :) |

That is definitely reason to celebrate- great grades!:D

My (much) older brother was ordained as a pastor today!! This has been a long & arduous journey, for him AND his wife. He's been a short term missionary for years (Guatamala, England, Scotland, mostly) but this is seriously an answer to prayer! I'm SO proud of him!!!
(but if he starts preaching at me, I'll remind him that I can take him down in leg wrestling! :D ) |
Well as some of you may have guessed by another post by me I just got a great new job. It's a HUGE increase in pay, there are more days off, better benefits, better hours and the people seem AWESOME unlike my current place of employment ( see job resignation). So this has really been a huge Early Christmas present. I am so excited to start. My 1st day is Nov 17 !
|
I am really excited...so I thought this would be the place to post it...I just got my scores for the General GREs...(SATs on steroids)...and I did what I thought I would on verbal...I got average...but I got 70th percentile on quantitative...and on the essay part I got a 5 out of 6...the last score is what makes me most excited...I am a physics and astronomy major...so writing has never been one of my favorite things...so doing as well as I did makes me so happy....
|
YIPPEE!!!!!
|
I went to see John Mayer in concert recently. It was the first concert I've been to in a LOOOOOONNNNGGGG time & it was a blast!!!:D

It was a great concert! You can tell he's young when he talks in between songs- he didn't make too much sense. We didn't care for his "banter" but his guitar playing & singing were excellent.
I don't think I could sit through a Willie Nelson concert, but I'm glad you can- it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, doesn't it? Sisters don't always have to agree- we just have to respect each other's choices!;) |

Latest update on the weight loss front (unofficial total)....89 pounds lost after five months since the surgery! :D |
Polarpi, that's fantastic!!!!!! Do you feel healthier, livlier, and dare I say, sexier? ;) Gosh, I'm thrilled for you!!
This may sound odd, but I know SO many people who have gagged at the thought of a Willie Nelson concert - until they got there! He's one of the few musicians who can cross almost any barrier with one song or another. I guess I should confess that, on another message board, Willie is my avatar! :D |
