Has Hell Frozen Over??? (Baseball)
The Chicago Cubs are claiming first place in their division with just 4 games left, and the Boston Red Sox are also posed to capture the American League Wild Card.
My question: Has hell frozen over??? Discuss. |
GO RED SOX! :) :)
|
when chicago plays boston in the world series, then this statement will be true...
BUT TOO BAD SINCE THE S.F. GIANTS WILL BE PLAYIN THE OAKLAND A'S IN THE "BATTLE OF THE BAY 2" |
I agree with Champ, up to his prediction.
Hell will freeze over if it's the Cubs and Sox in the Series. But it ain't gonna happen cuz i'm feelin the Braves this year(if my stros don't pull it out and get in) Kitso KS 361 |
Come on you guys....following the logic of "It only happens once every 100 years..." ITS GOTTA BE MY CUBBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.
And there is no team that deserves it more.....or has less of a chance of it ever happening again:D |

Add to that the annoying crowd at the games that knows nothing about baseball and thinks the stadium is just a large lincoln park bar. I love going to games in Wrigley Field, and the crowd is a lot nicer than the jackasses at US Cellular, but really, let's not kid ourselves - people are there for the beer and then for the Cubby Bear after. -Rudey --The Red Sox are busy giving head to each other so I don't care much for them. |

I actually agree with the above, cannot stand ppl who are like, Yeah I went to the game and got wasted.......granted I've done that before but I really was there to see the game. All in all though, Wrigley has heart. It's what makes lil kids want to grow up and be ball players, its what makes dads want to take their sons to the game. Wrigley's got an authentic feel to it that I wouldn't trade for the world....especially since my other option is to get mugged at a White Sox game across the street from Cabrini Green. |
K I"m rereading my post and also meant to say this----
I realize we're not as talented as some other teams. But I think that people have shortsighted what the Cubs have accomplished this year due to an 'easy' schedule. Sure, the recent teams were beneficial, but we played hard teams in the beginning. All the games count, and if we sucked this year like we have before, we wouldn't be standing in the #1 spot right now. |

I think we could repeat it yet again!

No No No, you all have it all wrong. The Yankees are winning it all this year! I mean really, they need to get back on track.

As a Padres fan, I don't know what it's like to regularly be in the hunt for a pennant.
But, if Boston can take out the Yanks.........I'll be smiling from ear to ear. |

Go Red Sox!! |

San Francisco will take out the Braves. Sorry, Kitso, but I have to agree with Gary Sheffield's statement in the Newspaper: they don't a sense of urgency. they're stuck in a rut where winning a Division Title is good enough for them. As for the Cubs, they have a decent shot. White Sox WILL NOT make it past the Division series. Until my Indians get back to the top: GO TWINS!!!!!! |

The Sox have hit the ball well all year, but...
Not going to be their year. The AL race is wide open, and I'm going to have to go with my team, the NEW YORK YANKEES (and once again, any of you all who think I'm a bandwagon jumper are wrong - I was a fan during the Andy Hawkins/Steve Balboni days) Not sure about the NL - the Braves are very good but I don't know about their pitching; the Giants lineup is just too weak, and who knows who else will be there. Collin (one of maybe 5 die-hard Yankee fans in Boston) |

GO GIANTS !!! |

I wouldn't take a single position player on that team who hasn't hit 70 homers over any analogous player on the red sox . . . or the yankees, for that matter (yes, their lineup has to be considered weaker than the sox at this point). Think about it - boone over alfonso? easy - soriano over durham? easy - posada over the skeleton formerly known as benito? easy easy easy - the giants do NOT hit well enough. They do throw the ball - but they lose to the Marlins in a short series (they won't score in ProP). The Sox have a very real chance to knock off the yankees if the bullpen gets hot. If Kim acts like BK Kim circa 2001 . . . well then, it will be yanks in 5 jjust like in 99. The Fish or the Braves will play the Sox or the Yanks, though - the other teams are keeping the dugouts warm. |

2003 Power Rankings: Week 24 Rank Team Rec. Comment 1 Giants 93-57 We have a strong feeling that this is the year for Barry Bonds and Co. Mark it down: Giants will be the ones holding a parade come late October ... ESPN.COM No one really believed they would make it last year, but they did. Granted, they didn't win,but they played their hearts out and will do it again this time. The Giants are an amazing 21-5 in games decided in the final at-bat. They make the key hits when they count. Barry is one of the best to ever play the game, but he can't do it alone. This team plays well TOGETHER and everyone of them makes an outstanding contribution (even the reserves). Sure, as individuals, they might not seem like powerhouses or big name stars, but together, they have proven to be pretty much untouchable. They were only ever in second place in the NL West for less than a day. All I can do is believe in my team, enjoy the post season, and cheer them on all the way. :D |
I hate all Yankee fans. I hope Boston destroys you guys.
With that said, the Giants are the best team in the league. They will destroy everyone in the NL and most likely face the Yanks. |

It's great to have faith in your team - I have faith and hope that the Yankees will pull out another one. However, I also realize that in a short series, the Red Sox could out-muscle the Yanks and win it (and it pains me GREATLY to say that). Should be a fun October if nothing else. Collin |
GO ROYALS!!
I'm going to watch them take the Chi-Sox tommorow at the K!!! |
As an addition to this thread - who do you think will win the individual awards? Here's my guess (more on who deserves it than who will get it):
AL MVP: Brett Boone. He's kept the M's lineup going, even while Ichiro has struggled. He does it all - hits, hits for clutch, plays very good defense, even runs well. Nomar and Frank Thomas have been very good, but I'd give it to Boone. NL MVP: Barry Bonds. He's carried that lineup, without him they just aren't the same. Pujols (my preseason pick) has been amazing, but take Bonds out of the Giants lineup and they're a completely different team. AL Rookie of the Year: Rocco Baldelli. Matsui has been great, but he's NOT A ROOKIE. After playing all that time in Japan, he's a bona fide vet. Baldelli has been the very good at his first shot in the bigs playing on an awful Tigers team. Jody Gerut has had a good year too, but I'd vote for Baldelli. NL Rookie of the Year: Brandon Webb. He's helped carry the Arizona rotation while Randy and Curt were hurt. He's been consistently solid all year, he gets my vote. AL Cy Young: Roy Halladay. The Blue Jays are out of contention, but he's been sick, no doubt in my mind he should win it. Pedro and Esteban Loaiza have had very good years, but Halladay has been the best. NL Cy Young: Mark Prior and Eric Gagne (tie). You can't ignore what either of these guys has done this season. Prior has been overpowering as a starter, Gagne has been unreal as a reliever. I truly think they should share the award, but I'm guessing Gagne will get it. Those are my picks...we'll see. Collin |
Will all the Red Sox fans please just shutup? Honestly your team sucks...your city sucks. You are all inferior and have a complex that wicked sucks. You make lewd statements about Yankee players when you know your players are giving head for pocket change after games.
-Rudey --That is wicked all so go pak yo cah in southie or something. Yeah! |

Go Royals too!!! Even though they are eliminated, I am overjoyed over their year. Hell really would've frozen over if the Red Sox, Cubbies, and Royals all made the playoffs.
And now for my picks - AL MVP: Has to be A-Rod. No player is anywhere near him in terms of his value to the team. Texas would be in the same boat with the Tigers (even though they aren't far off) without A-Rod. And he's had an "off" year this year. NL MVP: Bonds. No question whatsoever. Pujols is close, but he has Rolen and Edmonds with him. Bonds is the Giants. AL Cy Young: I will also go with Halladay (as I predicted at the beginning of the season). AL Cy Young: Have to go with Gagne for being automatic this year (except for Hammerin' Hank at the All Star Game!). Al ROY: I still think Matsui will win in because of the fact that he plays everyday for the Yankees. He may not be as good as Baldelli, but still. NL ROY: Dontrelle Wills fo sho. No one saw him on the radar screen this year and he is a definite phenom. |

AL MVP : should be A-Rod . . . but I'd bet it's either Boone or Tejada (dark horse, been soooo hot) NL MVP : uh, Bonds? Who else? AL Rook : gotta be my boy Angel Berroa - just look at the numbers! the kid's sick NL Rook : Brandon Webb - might have been cy if he'd played all year AL Cy : should be Pedro by the digits, but Halladay will win b/c W-L is more important to voters NL Cy : again - should be Gagne, but Ortiz wins on record PS - Prior wins the next 5 cy youngs, unless wood takes one |

Yankees are still the favorites b/c they pitch better than anyone, but the Sox have passed them at the plate |
