Disappearing Acts
Has anyone else heard that the Terry McMillan book "Disappearing Acts" was being made into a movie or is this just my wishful thinking? Anyway, I could've sworn I heard that somewhere and that Wesley Snipes may be cast as "Frankie".

I haven't heard anything about it, but I'll keep my ears open and my eyes in the pages of magazines. Speaking of movies, in the recent issue of Essence there was a section dedicated to upcoming movies with black actors and actresses. I'm looking forward to "Big Mama" with Nia Long and Martin Lawrence. I've seen that one advertised on television. If anyone has seen any good movies lately, let us know.

tickledpink,
I heard the same thing. I can't remember who was supposed to play Zora, but I think John Singleton was directing. I just hope they don't change the story line like they did with Waiting to Exhale. I personally can't see Wesley playing Franklin either. Franklin was supposed to be this big, fine, construction worker and Wesley's like what.....5'2"?!?!?!?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Hello Ladies, I haven't posted in a while, but I thought I would drop this info so that we can all support Black film/television/entertainment. Also, I happen to think that Disappearing Acts is McMillan's best book. Anyway, I think that they're making an HBO with Sanaa Lathan as the main character. I saw a preview on HBO, during one of their specials on HBO Oringinal movies. By the way has anyone been watching The Corner? I haven't, and I've heard mixed reviews.

I've been halfway watching "The Corner," and why I haven't committed suicide from depression, I don't know! Seriously, that piece is soooooooooooo, hmmm...well, such the typical gritty, urban drama, with the usual suspects as characters. It's really depressing me.
I don't know about yall, but dang, those are a lot of people walking around the hood in broad daylight with no jobs! I know it's crucial here in Chicago too, but folks ain't just getting their stroll on in the middle of the day in droves like that! DG |
DG, I agree with you. Deeeeeepressing! The actors on THE CORNER are good because I have to say, they convince me every time I watch them that they are junkies. I'm just waiting for the "happy" ending. Am I fooling myself?

Thanks for responding everyone. I can't see Wesley Snipes as Frankie either. Blair Underwood would have a better personna (and appeal I might add http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif). I've been watching The Corner and it is depressing, but I'm hooked now (bad choice of words....). I haven't heard about Big Mama, but I'll definately keep my ears open.

Am I the only Soror that has never heard of "The Corner"?
What day, time, & station? |
Catwoman, you are not alone. I haven't heard of it either.

Hi All http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
The Corner is an HBO miniseries that details the life of an African American family in a less than desirable atmosphere. The original parts (6) air on HBO at 9:00 on Sundays. (They also repeat it a lot during the week.) I agree with DiscoGoddess, it is very depressing, but it is pretty deep, and I think it honestly shows a lot of struggles that African American families in these types of atmospheres go through. ZetaAce, that's 9:00 p.m. Central Time. It's on at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. It is an excellence show if you can stand to watch them shooting up. Charles Dutton is the director. I've read some articles on the show, and it appears that there will not be a happy ending. As you all probably know, the 3 main characters are real people. I hope they do a kinda "where they are now" at the end of the series since it is based on events from 1993. I am looking forward to reading the book that it was based on.

Eclipse, thanks for the clarification. The funniest thing is, I live in the Eastern Time Zone, LOL!
|
Well Serenity, I guess there wasn't exactly a happy ending after all, but it wasn't all bad either.

Tickledpink, *sigh* I know.....
BUT HEY! Gotta give it to Tyrica. She has done A LOT for herself and her son. She truly turned out differently than I thought she would. I cried when Gary died. Yeah.....I was feeling it. I'm glad I watched the entire series. It was worth it. ------------------ Sincerity, Loyalty, Unity |

I enjoyed the character...Zora....I was definitely feeling her.
I would not mine watching this movie in its entirety....I sort of forgot alot. I read that book during the Gulf War. Keep us posted. Deja |
I loved that book ... and yes - Wesley is playing him. I saw the preview on HBO yesterday. It really doesn't seem fitting. Morris Chestnut would be good for that role I think.
|
Woooooooo! I loved that book too. Definitely her best. I just hope they don't mess this book up like they did Waiting to Exhale. The sisters in the movie seemed so weak and pitiful. When I read it they seemed like they had everything going for them except their love lives. Anyway, did I hear somebody say Morris?!?! I LOVE that man. How dare he get married without me. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif He would have been great for that role. Sanaa Lathan was great in Love and Basketball. I loved that movie. I laughed, cried, danced....that was really good. Did you all know that they are an item in real life?
Ok, ok, I am getting carried away. Is this coming on HBO? ------------------ We will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of your friends. - Martin L. King Jr. |
Hey ladies! If I'm not mistaken, I did read in Vibe/The Source that Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps are on their way to the altar. Maybe I read wrong but I'm 95% sure that they're together. Just a lil' note on my behalf.
PS Even though they co-starred in Love and Basketball together and it may seem awkard, I believe it's true!! |
I apologize for the typo, that should be "awkward". http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Oooooooh,... I saw the preview for this last night. It's coming in December!
|
On HBO?
I guess I have to call my provider to add HBO. I just took it off after Sex and the City went off. |
Yes, it's coming to HBO.
|
I got rid of HBO too, but I know people who still have it. Please keep me posted on dates so I can be in front of the tube! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
