Survivor: Pearl Islands

Did anyone catch the first episode? I did. Looks like its going to be a good one. We already see some stealing, back stabbers, and some nudity from the players.

adpialumcsuc 09-19-2003 07:45 PM

I am trying so hard not to watch it but I have admit that I get caught up in and am addicted. That Rupert guy is hysterical with all his stealing. Hopefully this season will be better than the last one. I lost interest on that one.

Dionysus 09-19-2003 07:49 PM

Anyone who disses Tijuana, I will track down your location by IP address and give you a beat down.

PandaOnProzac 09-19-2003 07:52 PM

If I was there I'd like to look around for the other tribe's camp site and steal some more.

The tribes are on two different islands. That would be far too much work.

Hootie 09-19-2003 11:00 PM

I will admit I watched it last night. I couldn't help it...it looked pretty interesting. It was rather amusing that in the first immunity challenge the Morgan Tribe (I think) had three guys do the challenge fully nude...all because one of their cast mate's shorts kept falling down so they figured they wouldn't make him feel embarrased alone.

MeLikey 09-19-2003 11:00 PM

One tribe seems like it has more young people on it... forget the name of the tribe but it has those 2 good looking young guys. I was a hardcore fan of the 1st Survivor and then just didn't really follow the other seasons... for some reason I'd never have time to watch the seasons and then all of a sudden I'll randomly turn on the TV to the season finale. But I'm going to try to watch this one... I think it'd be so cool to be on the show, but I don't think I'd be able to last.

polarpi 09-20-2003 02:14 AM

All right, so I couldn't watch it as it aired last night, but I taped it and watched it this evening (better than watching the last Friday night of reruns ;) )

I cracked up every time they showed the Drake tribe. I'm really rooting for this team to win....I was LMAO when Rupert's stealing the shoes from the other teams life ring....classic!

When the immunity challenge began, I thought the Drake tribe would have no problems, then when Morgan took over I went "Oh no!", and then for Drakek to come back in the last stretch and beat Morgan, I was cheering!

So glad to see Nicole go....way too much of a drama queen to suit my tastes! :p

Hootie 09-20-2003 02:21 AM

None of them claimed being Greek :(

angelic1 09-20-2003 04:33 AM

I havent watched it that much since the first season.. but I will prob tune into this one.. there are two VT grads... Jon and Michelle... neither of them I believe were greek.. but I could be wrong.. they had an article on them in the school paper...

ADPiSAI 09-20-2003 01:16 PM

I'm just glad that this season looks like it will actually be good. I stopped watching last season after the second episode because I couldn't stand most of the people on it.

Rupert - that guy's awesome. The shoe stealing was fantastic, and I love how he showed the young guys up by going out and catching all those other fish after they just got one.

polarpi 09-26-2003 03:20 AM

So excited that Drake Tribe is doing so well....ever since seeing the first episode, it just seemed like Drake had realized the true meaning of teamwork (even though I like the members of the Morgan Tribe, too! :) )

So much drama tonight! Looting, someone wanting to leave, asking for votes for "eviction" - can't think of a better term - surprise (to me) vote....I don't know if I can handle it! :D

mmcat 09-26-2003 08:15 AM

pretty good view last night. don't break rupert's spear, though. he looked like he could have drowned that other guy.

TexasAGD 09-26-2003 05:40 PM

I hope the Morgan tribe wins immunity next week. I feel so bad for them. Osten should have been voted off because he gave up on the team and wanted to take his ass out of the game. Skinny Ryan gave what he had and he is probably stronger than all of the other girls in his tribe.

What I didn't get is why would Osten's cry baby self campaign for others to vote for him then vote for Ryan. Can you not vote for yourself? If he wanted to be gone that bad he should have voted for himself!

They can't vote for themselves.

I've really liked this new season so far. The last few seasons have disappointed me in the first couple of episodes, so I quit watching them.

Chief 10-04-2003 12:13 AM

I would feel sorry for the Morgan tribe because they're getting their asses kicked, but seeing their voting strategy and how they've treated Ryan and Lill, I don't feel bad for them at all. As a tall skinny guy myself, I felt bad for Ryan. He had the spirit, the will to win and work hard, everything--but just because he can't bench 300 pounds they decided he was useless. I also didn't like the way big shot lawyer Andrew would dog him in front of the rest of the tribe.

It's interesting how so far this season, there are several castaways who have gotten almost no screen time. Rupert gets by far the most screen time, but he deserves it. He's one of the most memorable players to ever appear on the show.

So far this is a good season--cool players and great challenges. It will be interesting to see what crazy tricks and twists they have in store this time.

polarpi 10-04-2003 01:09 AM

The radio personalities on the morning radio show I listen to were talking about Survivor said that Rupert seems like he's having fun, it's not a game. It's going to get him far in this game because he lets things roll off of him.

I couldn't believe they voted Lill off over Darrah...Lill gave 110% in challenges as well, and had more of a work ethic and got stuff done (Darrah even admitted that on camera!) Oh well, just goes to show that it must be luck of the draw as to which tribe the Survivors will be on in the beginning.

Does anyone want to speculate on the likelihood of another switcheroo of tribes like the one on the Marquesas when the blue tribe (can't remember the name at the moment) was winning all the challenges over the other tribe (this is the season that Vecepia won :) )

Chief 10-04-2003 11:55 PM

I'm sure they will do some kind of switcheroo--they have done it almost every season since Africa, and the other time they offered everyone the chance to switch (even though no one did). I read that they're planning some kind of huge twist about halfway through, so it has to be something bigger than a simple tribe switch. One crazy thought I had--what if they allow people who were voted out to get back into the game? Only thing is, they'd probably get voted back out again right away.

AXO_MOM_3 10-16-2003 11:26 PM

Anyone still watching this? I think the Drake tribe seriously screwed up last week by throwing the challenge! Is it just me, or does Jeff (host) really dislike John?

I didn't really think of it that way, but now that you mention it....it does seem like Jeff is continuously baiting Jon when Jon mentions something (like the throwing of last week's challenge).

I was sad to see Michelle go....I really liked her, and felt that she was a better person to keep around than Sandra, or even Jon....but I realize they need to keep their tribe strong, so it would likely be a woman leaving, and no one wanted to vote Sandra off because Michelle was supposed to be the decoy for the immunity challenge tonight.

Hoping that Drake will come back and wipe out Morgan next week in both challenges! :)

Chief 10-22-2003 10:04 PM

I've heard that Jeff has said in interviews that he couldn't stand Jon. It will be interesting to see how that continues to unfold. Hopefully Jon will be around for a while, because he's entertaining. Rupert is still the best though.

AXO_MOM_3 10-24-2003 12:14 AM

I love Rupert, and am so glad he survived the vote tonight! Osten needs to get over the animal and bug thing - I mean HELLO...the show IS called Survivor! Did he think he was going to be surviving a posh resort somewhere or what?

ajuhdg 10-24-2003 06:57 AM

I watched it last night too. I love Rupert too, but I don't think that he's gonna win. Trish was on the right track with trying to get him out, but she was thinking of it too early. I hated the last episodes when they were so dumb, and keeping these really powerful people...then the couldn't understand why they got voted out. Anyways, I ramble.

I HATE JON! He's a freaking idiot, and I just want to pull his nappy curls out. I hate how damn cocky he is, especially when he went to go and loot. I would've smacked him! I hope he's next. You know that's who the other tribe will try to get rid of first!

aj

mmcat 10-24-2003 07:18 AM

rupert is the provider though.
get rid of him too early and food becomes an issue.
he's certainly honest.

dzandiloo 10-24-2003 12:21 PM

It's kind of sad, because for the first time in a long time, there is a person on this show who actually deserves to win (Rupert). He has everything it takes to be a real survivor, but in the end, he's going to be booted, unless he can keep Christina & Sandra loyal to him-and the folks from the other tribe don't gang up on him as well. Sean can't be trusted, but he made the right decision last night. Jon needs to walk the plank (sorry). I.HATE.HIM.

I wish Savage had made some parting words after the immunity challenge, like "you can thank Jon for losing this one" since it was his loud mouth that got Savage all riled up & motivated to kick arse. On the other hand-Osten needs to go. Scared of a friggin' pelican? What?

vanda 10-24-2003 01:39 PM

Johnny Fairplay

I have never hated a contestant like I hate Jon. I, too wanted Savage or somebody to just let them know Jon told them he they threw the challenge. The look on his face was priceless when he saw Trish was the one voted out. I really hope he's gone next week. If the other tribe goes to council, I think Osten is a goner.

TexasAGD 10-24-2003 03:49 PM

i think the next survior show after this one should be a "true survivor" where there is no backstabbing, plotting, or scheming. keep everything the same as it has always been: two teams, the challenges, immunity, ect. only difference is that they vote people off without other people's influence. and, if you get caught talking to another player about taking someone out, then you get put up for eviction. last one standing is the survivor.

Awww, but that's no fun! :D

Seriously though, I think it's a great idea in theory, but I'd be curious to see how they could achieve it in actuality.

You said it, sister. I would want to smack him too. I wish that Jon could meet Shi-Ahn, the She Devil from Survivor-Thailand. She would have give him a tongue lashing like he deserves!
I would pay money to see Shi-Ahn:

put annoying Jon:

OHMYGOD! I SO was hoping that Savage would say something too! I though for sure they'd attempt to give them some advice on who to vote out! That would have been so freaking awesome!

YES! OSTEN and JON should be on the next boat out!

I'm normally not a fan of this show, but my mom got me hooked to this seasons. I missed this past Thursdays and I was actually bummed cause I forgot to tape it. I had to laugh at myself cause I never got into the show in the past and now I like this one go figure lol.:p

AXO_MOM_3 10-31-2003 12:23 AM

OK - I missed most of the show tonight! I came in when Morgan was voting wimpy Osten off. I sure hope this guy has a job already cause I'd never hire him to work in my company!
What happened during the first 45 minutes of the show?

TexasAGD 10-31-2003 12:35 AM

basically what happend during the early minutes was that rupert got pissed of how he was being played.

then the twist came. the six people that were booted off from each team came back as a third team, they called themselves the outcast. so, the challege was a 3 team game. the outcast group won. morgan and drake teams had to each vote someone off on todays episode. drake voted off shawn. morgan didnt even vote because osten decided to pull himself off. next week, the outcast group will vote back into the game 2 people who were previously voted of to take shawn and osten's place. pretty interesting so far.

AGDee 10-31-2003 12:49 AM

It just seems to go against the whole "Outwit, Outlast, Outplay" theme of the show. The members of the ghost tribe didn't outlast the others but now they could end up winning the million? Also, they sure looked rested, well fed and clean. How can that compete with tribes who are well into the severe hunger phase, covered from head to toe in bug bites (doesn't that look nasty???), suffering from sleep deprivation, etc.

I'd be ticked if I was a contestant!

Dee

polarpi 10-31-2003 01:59 AM

Why, oh why, why, WHY did Drake keep Jon around???? They're shooting themselves in the foot....there's still at least one more tribe immunity challenge (so it seems) until the "merge", so you get rid of one of your stronger tribemates?!?!?! Are you NUTS?

Osten needed to go. I don't feel sorry for him at all...I mean, this is Survivor....you filled out the application, you made it through the screening process, you were chosen as one of the 16 castaways. Now that you're in the game and things aren't going so well, you're going to say, oh well, I guess the million dollars isn't worth it? What the h*** did you think you were getting yourself into, a Royal Carribean Cruise???? Give me a break. I'm glad Jeff threw Osten's torch onto the ground after Osten had left and told him to "go home" after extinguishing his torch...not even a "you asked for it, you got it".

It'll be interesting to see how the Outcasts' Tribal Council goes next week...I hope Burton and Michelle come back, but it'll be interesting, because I'm sure it's vote for the player you think is the most worthy to go back into the game...besides yourself.

I'm a little confused about the Outlast, Outwit, and Outplay part, too....unless the producers figured that the Outcasts had outwitted the other players maybe by figuring there would be a twist such as this, or they had outplayed the others in a "negative" way that lead to their being voted out of the tribe? I don't know.

ajuhdg 10-31-2003 07:45 AM

I can't believe I'm gonna have to watch another show with 'Jonnyd-pain-in-the-ass' on it! I am in shock that he is still there! However, the only thing that I can think of is that they think that Burton may return to the game. If he goes back to the other tribe and there is a merge, than Shawn already has an in on the other team. Jon has NO ONE...the other tribe hates him!

Plus, I think it's really cool about the 'second chancers'. Jeff said that it was done in 'true pirate fashion', so it fits the rest of the shows theme. I also believe that as early in the game as it is, some cuts are made just because someone has to go. I don't think the three O's are truly tested until after the merge. That's when it becomes a challenge!

aj

AGDee 10-31-2003 08:06 AM

My fear is that everybody wants to keep Jon around because they KNOW they would beat him if they went to the Final 2 with him. In fact, it's almost hard to believe that someone can be that obnoxious naturally. I wonder if his strategy is to be the most hated so that he gets to the final 2!

mmcat 10-31-2003 09:11 AM

just take him out and let him walk the plank....

Ginger 10-31-2003 12:03 PM

I was yelling at the TV when they voted off Shawn instead of Jon too.

Now I wonder... are they (the Outcast) going to be able to choose which tribe the newly returned members go to? As in, are they first going to vote Which Person should go back to Drake, and then have another vote of WhichPerson should go back to Morgan?

The only thing I can think of, is... I think I remember from when Burton got voted off, that he figured out that his buddy Shawn had voted against him (If I'm totally wrong about this, let me know!). If Burton got sent back to Drake, and Shawn was still around, that might have caused some (more) tension within the tribe. Maybe they got rid of Shawn to avoid that (because they seem quite certain Burton is coming back) and figured that at least everyone hates Jon, and he'll probably be voted out soon enough without further splintering the tribe?

(I put too much thought into this)

I think it's interesting though that the Outcast stayed on a relatively similar diet once they returned to the boat, though... I heard an interview with Burton the week after his Episode of Doom aired, and they were asking him all sorts of questions about "So, what was the first thing you ate after you were voted off" etc. He was really evasive about it... and know I know why!
