Rush @ a commuter school
Orignally I wanted to put up a rush thread how it is done at my school...a commuter school with only three groups going through formal rush, to give a diffrent prespective on rush. The fact taht there is an AEPhi sister from my school on GC made me rethink this. I'm not going to post details but I will let you girls know how rush goes. Sierra, if you want to post anything from your end without giving details your more then welcomed to :)
Here is the rush schedule: 9/9 Club Fair 9/16 Back to School Bash 9/18 IGC Rush Fair 9/18 Info Section 9/22 1st Rush Party 9/23 2nd Rush Party 9/25 3rd Rush Party 9/29 Pref. Night 9/30 Bid Day I wasn't about to be at the club fair due to the fact that it was primary day and I was working the poll sites (great money btw), but I heard from several sisters that it went pretty well. I know they met a girl that I had talked with throughout the summer and a few of the sisters already knew, and they met of on the girls cousins. I wish I was there but there is more to come. I will also be missing the first rush party because of class (I rather be there for pref night). Rush shirts just came in and I get to pick mine up on Monday! (the other group besides for AEPhi is A Xi D) :D :D |

I know how rush can be at a commuter school...sometimes you have to go a different route than other universities or colleges do, so I'll be rooting for ya! Let us know how it goes! |
well i would love to contribute more to this thread but between being Chapter President and serving on Panhel E-board my life has been completely taken over by rush. i will try to post if i get the chance. i will only be missing one rush party and bid day so i should bascically be on top of things.
after convention i discovered how completely different commuter school rush is and i would think non-commuters would definitely be interested in hearing about it. there are difference that many of them often can't imagine. |
Having gone through rush on the initiated sister side at both a commuter school and a larger greek school, I can definatley say there is a huge difference (we only had 3 NPC sororities as well) between the two....mostly just based on numbers of girls participating and the intensity of the events (the amount of time spent perfecting parties) but that was just at my school......your school sounds not-so-commuter with all those events.

I'm missing one rush party also (stupid Monday night class) and missing class for Pref night (I have to!!)

Last night was the NPC Info Session! We had only four PNM's show up! :( Maybe because of the weather we were supposed to have? :confused: I guess we will see what will hapen at the first rush party Monday night!

Most of my sisters, and most of the greeks in genral, do have part or full time jobs, and we are all able to blance our time. One thing you learn is time mangemnt. At first it may seem like alot, andthere are times when it's hard (like during rush) but most of us are able ot balance the three

Is anyone around here a Phi Mu at a mostly commuter school? I am, and was just curious about how things are done with not only rush but other events also. Just to see if there are certain things we could do differently. :)

rush is finally in full swing - the first rush party is today!! and buttonz i wouldn't stress about the info session. ignoring the fact that we were suppose to have a hurricane it usually has the poorest attendance. we have it because the locals usually have something over the weekend and we want them to meet some of our girls and learn the benefits of national before they party with the locals over the weekend. i am sure attendance will improve - i called and emailed a bunch of people over the weekend for Panhel.

Well, I wasn't at the first rush party, but I heard it went pretty well. I'm goign to foucus on talking bout the second party because I was there :). I think that in total there were only 10-11 girls there, which worries me. Quota isn't set until pref night, but it looks like it's going to be about 3 or 4 :(. Our theme was lulu, and it worked pretty good. We did an icebreaker and then explained things like our anti-hazing polciy, dues, etc. The favors were cute like bears w/hula skirts and blue and yellow lei's. The bears and a foam heart saying SDT taged to them (like how the put a price tag to a shirt) kinda simlair to the TY beanie babies (I miss those!! LOL). I have two rush crushes so far :)
*edited to add* There were a fewfacest aht I hoped to see (friends of mine that saidthey might htink about rushing) and they weren't there so I guess they decided not to rush :( |
Quick update: Quota is set at four.....Pref night is Monday night. I already took care of ordering the flowers, and we went last ngith to pick up some stuff for it. By now, every girl should have got a phone call telling her who she is going to....we invited 9 out of 12 girls!....Including all 3 of my rush crushes! (Yes, I'm up to 3)

IN my POv , as a rushee at my commuter school (BC) i found rush to be fun and a learning experience for me.. i went to all the rush parties i could and learned as much as i could. I finally made my mind whre i wanted to go and it was to nationals. I went to the parties was a lil shy and thought maybe hmm cuz im shy i wont get a bid.. by the 3rd party i was actually comfy and had high esteem i might get a bid and i had my mind of who iwanted to go with if i get a pref invite back :) .. im still waiting on a reply back and boy is it nerve rackin :eek: but i hope i get a invite cuz if i dont i would sure be upset and not kno what to do in the end cuz this is something i really want and had my hopes up for :( :confused:

I can't wait until Monday night...hopefully all the girls we invited to pref night will come! And we might have some of the SDT CSI sisters there also (at least that's what I heard)!

I actually rushed for nationals at brooklyn college and wasnt picked for preference night it kinda hurts but what cna i do im stuck on whatto do now cuz i was really confident id get a call or email back :mad: :( so what shoudl i do now? i dont even kno what went wrong i felt i clicked with the girls :mad: any suggestions?

first...try to calm yourself. secondly...call your greek life folks on monday and find out if anyone is informally rushing or cobing. from earlier posts, it appears this might be a possibility.
thirdly...see if there might now be something else you want to get involved with for right now. let you meet more folks and get busy. but above all, just relax and let things play out. |

a Deep apology
hi guys,
i just want to apoligize for my big temper tantrum :).. im so deeply sorry on my part it was just that i was very hurt and upset and im a very go getum person or whatever those people are called who strive to get what they want and when it dont go as planned i do get very upset. what hurt the most was i wasnt called back to any of my top 3 choices and it hurt. My top choice is actually the sorority on this chat forum who started the thread( yes I loved SDT and was hoping theyd choose me) see i said it :) :eek: . At brooklyn you have to have 3 choices and since sdt ddint give me a bid for pref night i did get hurt. I am not gonan say my top 2 choices cuz that was a split vote and one of those choices is actually on this thread too:eek: . So i was wondering if even if i was cut for pref night am i still eligible for COB or the next formal at our school for thursday or is there a policy whre its cut once cut again going on? Just wondering?:confused: :) :cool: |

Daisy...she had to drop formal rush cus she had class and wasn't able to make it to pref :( but thats what COB is for! :)
A huge shout out to the DD chapter of SDT for coming to pref night! You girls are awsome and I'm proud to call you my sisters! Pref night went awsome! :)!! Out of the 8 girls we invited back, 7 came...the one that didn't didn't show up to any parties last night at all.... However, we didn't get any of my rush crushes :( (not including the girl that had to drop formal rush), but we got 3 amazing girls. No one made quota, which was set at four (There were two more girls that were invited back to pref night..the girl that didn't show up and anthor girl {too long of a story to get into what happened with her} ....we got 3, same with AEPhi and A Xi D got 2. Every girl got there top choice, which is awsome for the NM's! We are going to be COBing like crazy, we already have a COB event in the works for later this week, and hopefully we will extent some bid cards and add 2-3 more girls to an awsome pledge class! http://www.spacespider.net/emo/grin10.gif |

Correction....AEPhi did make quota with four girls! Congrats girls :).
We are going out to dinner tonight with the NM's...Daisy, I spoke with the girl you know, she is meeting us tonight to sign her bid card! That will give us 4 NM's with a COB event planned for later this week! I will let you all know how the COB event goes. |
We have four bid cards back, and we have a fifth out that we will probably get back, signed, tomorrow! We are going to have an awsome pledge class. We took them out to dinner tonight.....they are awsome! It makes it that much better that I'm there pledge mom! :D :D :D :D :D

i am finally posting my update. we made quota - YAY! - and i love the 4 new members we got. :D now the time to work on COB begins. the inter-greek council is holding another rush fair on thursday which is great b/c the original igc rush fair was practically dead because we were suppose to get a hurricane that day!! hopefully we'll get a few names there to cob! we're also having a party on saturday which we promoted like maniacs so maybe we'll get some people through that and even if we don't it will be a great chance to celebrate with the 4 great we have!
its so funny at the pref night i was like finally i get to breathe again but then realized today, we still have to do cob. rush never really ends!! :eek: |

FOr some reason I can never make it to an IGC rush fair...the first one becauseI was working the elections and this one because I am working! :( Maybe I'll see if I can get some time off...but that would probably be betterspent in the doc's officecus I don't feel well :(!
