A Possible Howard Dean - Wesley Clark Ticket?

Gen. Clark Reportedly Is Asked to Join Dean

By Jim VandeHei and Dan Balz

Thursday, September 11, 2003; Page A01

Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean has asked retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark to join his campaign, if the former NATO commander does not jump into the race himself next week, and the two men discussed the vice presidency at a weekend meeting in California, sources familiar with the discussions said.

Clark, in a telephone interview yesterday, said he did not want to comment about the private meeting. Asked about reports that the two men had discussed a wide range of issues, including endorsing Dean, joining the campaign, possible roles in a Dean administration and the vice presidency, he said only, "It was a complete tour of the horizon."

I agree. I think he's a great candidate.

Dean-Clark has my vote in 2004

Munchkin03 09-12-2003 10:27 AM

I've read about him, he would be a great addition to the race--a candidate with actual military experience!

Politics not your subject of choice?

Anyway, I think they would make for a great campaign team. The more I read about Dean the more I like the man. He's my top choice among the Democratic headliners.

Yeah true that. It's been forever that we've seen a politician be upfront with his views, and not try to word them so as not to offend any potential voters. That's how it should work, if you disagree with someone don't vote for them, and if you do then vote for them. Talking out of both sides of your mouth might save some voters that don't agree with you from voting against you, but at the same time you make it hard for people who would agree with you to vote for you, because they don't know for sure what your views are. I don't know Dean-Clark views on everything, but at least they seem honest enough to tell me their views and not try to apoligize or explain away issues like everyone else does.

ZTAngel 09-12-2003 02:58 PM

I'm so excited to see a political candidate who speaks so candidly about their views. After reading the TIME article about Dean about a month ago, I've been on the "Dean Bandwagon". :)

bethany1982 09-12-2003 03:14 PM

I respect Howard Dean. He is one of the few liberals who is not afraid to admit what he is. Howard Dean is a liberal. That makes him wrong on the issues and wrong for America... FLAME AWAY... LOL!

moe.ron 09-12-2003 03:16 PM

it's too tempting, must not go to the dark side.

Yea, because conservative is the way to go lolol.....

In the years when more gay people are being open about their sexuality, let's ban gay marriages! It's a losing battle, woo woo!

CatStarESP4 09-12-2003 05:48 PM

I just don't see that ticket happening!

Are you serious?

I never understood why "liberal" has ever been seen as a dirty word in America. I'm happy to call myself a liberal, although even "liberals" like Dean aren't liberal enough for me.

I am serious. I admire Dean for standing by his liberal convictions, when so many pretend to be something that they are not. I don't agree with much of what he stands for (especially his health care and education policies), but I have no problem giving him a little admiration. I'm not here to flame Dean, I truly admire him.

I'm liberal too. Don't know "how" liberal though.

=Valkyrie is all about the woo woo.

I am probably too liberal for Dean as well, but I just can come to see myself giving my vote to lieberman. I mean that man wants to censor everything from music to television talk shows.

I also don't agree with the recent attacks Dean has received from his fellow Democrats.

KSig RC 09-13-2003 01:44 AM

I would prefer a ticket of Howard Dean and Wesley Willis. Yay America!

moe.ron 09-13-2003 09:18 AM

Here is what a neo-conservative said about the Oklahoma City bombing, albeit she is way out there:

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building." -Ann Coulter

I'm sure Wesley would have gone for it, but he died about two weeks ago. :(

I am one of those people who is probably too liberal for Dean. :) I'm holding any and all opinions on the election--other than the fact that I like Clark because he is a strong proponent of two of my pet interests--until the Green Party candidate comes out.

Ann Coulter can lick my boots. My only regret is that she wasn't in the Murrah Building. (take this tongue in cheek!)

RACooper 09-13-2003 12:11 PM

If I was an American I'd vote on a ticket that included Clark... respect a lot of the observations and comments that he has made regarding foreign policy. He doesn't paint in the same black and white simple language as the Bush.... he seems to take a more even aproach and generally seems to be very intelligent when he is forced to defend his comments.

As the should the Ann Coulter quote. Bill Clinton probably said it best concerning these "tongue in cheek comments"....

"You know the one thing that's wrong with this country? Everyone gets a chance to have their fair say."
President Bill Clinton addressing the people of Philadelphia, May 28, 1993 in the Courtyard, City Hall, Philadelphia, PA. (Someone in the audience who disagreed voiced an opinion, and that was Clinton's response.)

Damn Bill of Rights!

Tongue in cheek of course!

Actually, I am political, but I doubt ticket will work or happen. Dean is too confident that he'll get the ticket, but it's too early to tell. I rather take a wait and see approach.

Ann has a history of doing this kind of stuff. But she also doesn't pay attention. Look at this statement she made:

"On the basis of their recent pronouncements, the position of the Democratic Party seems to be that Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) did not hit us on 9/11, but Halliburton did." -Ann Coulter

I thought it was Bin Laden, the CIA pretty much agreed that Hussein has nothing to do with 9/11

Edited to add: I read that Clark will anounced his intention sometime this week. Gonna be an interesting time.

So did Clinton... I have more, but why offend the liberal faction of GC.

moe.ron 09-14-2003 11:39 AM

Why do you always use Bill Clinton? I didn't support him. But if you want it that way.

I accept your debate for Bill Clinton vs. Ann Coulter. I'll start a new thread.

bethany1982 09-14-2003 12:29 PM

"Former NATO commander Wesley Clark today said he would decide soon about seeking the Democrat nomination for president, and would not take the No. 2 spot on the ticket - for now."

"There's only one decision to make: Run for president or stay in private business," he told CNN.

Good call, Mr. Clark.

Rudey 09-14-2003 03:25 PM

Here is why "liberal" is a dirty word. It is a word I easily associate with people who complain and get upset and are willing to insult others who don't agree with them (somehow neglecting the fact that being open-minded does not mean someone else is stupid). They are the kind of people who never come up with solutions and the solutions they try to back are faulty beyond repair. Dean represents that. Dean can talk about how Saddam is bad and Iraq needs to be dealt with, but Dean sure can't talk his way out of a peanut when it comes to exactly how we should deal with it.

And at the end of the day, they're all just dirty politicians who ride you and use you. Do you really think Dean would be talking like this if he knew it didn't appeal to a certain voter? If you don't think so then maybe you should read about how different he is as of late

-Rudey
--Oh and liberal girls tend to have gross curly hair. I'm not about that.

Bill Clinton is the easiest target. I could give anyone a list of left-wingers far worse than Clinton, but it's just so easy to make fun of Slick Willie!

moe.ron 09-14-2003 03:38 PM

You get your nutcases on both side of the wings.

bethany1982 09-14-2003 03:41 PM

Darn, I agree with Rudey....

damasa 09-16-2003 01:21 PM

Scratch it, Clark has decided to run himself.

Good call, Mr. Clark.

I saw an interview with Clark this morning, and he said he would not consider running for VP - it was President all the way.

It will be interesting; Dean has raised around 2-3x as much as the next nearest Democrat, but Clark will take away votes from each opponent, plus he already has supporters raising money for him.
