So I'm Watching Telletubbies

And u know what, it's freaking me out.

Optimist Prime 09-11-2003 10:17 AM

dude, chill out.

tinydancer 09-11-2003 10:25 AM

HAHA!! I watch them every morning when I am getting ready for work!!

(ok I work in an elementary school and have the Tubbies all over my office too)

Kristin AGD 09-11-2003 10:30 AM

When my daughter was an infant the Teletubbies were the only reason I was able to get ready for work. It must be the colors and the babble. She was addicted from 3 months old until she was about three. :)

MereMere21 09-11-2003 10:32 AM

yeah right now Elmo is entertaining my son so I can catch up on emails and news

about the hundrenth time you have heard the Elmo World's song you pretty much want to rip your ears off so you won't have to hear it again......but whatever keeps the kids happy!

Lil' Hannah 09-11-2003 12:26 PM

have you been engaging in any mind altering substances?

Hootie 09-11-2003 12:37 PM

The Green one freaks me out the most! I dunno what it is, but I just wanna close my eyes and cry!

Po?

tinydancer 09-11-2003 12:47 PM

Po=red one
Laa-Laa=yellow one
Dipsy=green one
Tinky Winky=purple one

I know you were dying to know that........;)

MysticCat 09-11-2003 01:02 PM

I've always regarded it child abuse to expose a child to Teletubbies or Barney. The few times my kids did watch them, my wife and I had to be far, far away from the tv.

moe.ron 09-11-2003 01:14 PM

La la freaks me out man.

MareImbrium 09-11-2003 01:42 PM

LOL. I remember watching the show as I was flipping through channels during a summer break and I just got hooked on the show. I couldn't believe it. They're kinda cute in a way, although you really can't figure out what the heck they are! And you all know the supposed theory that the sign on Tinky Winky's (the purple one) head is a symbol for being a homosexual. *shrug* I don't know who came up with that one. I always enjoyed how they said good bye to the sun and how all the teletubbies go "Eh oh!" or something.

That was the Rev. Jerry Fallwell of Lynchberg, VA. He controls that entire city. Basically he's a nut job, but he's a relgious nutjob so in VA that = power. We also have Pat Robertson, the guy who prayed that the Supreme Court justices would die because they legalized sodomy.

I always thought this was hilarious. It was about the time my daughter watched these. And there is an episode where Tinky Winky tries to get Dipsy to wear a skirt, and Dipsy runs away....:D
I just looked at as my daughter learning tolerance at an early age. :p

Once in a while, Po says something in Chinese..... I read it in TIME magazine or something like that.

Po -
The smallest of the four and is also the naughtiest. She is always riding on her scooter, and singing Padi, Padi, Padi, Padi Po (Chinese for quick, quick, quick, quick). Often spills her tubby custard or doesn't get any out of the machine after the others have got theirs. Shows that she's upset by stamping her feet. Often likes to do the opposite to her Tubbie colleagues, either for the humour element, or just to be bloody awkward. In one show, after Tinky Winky, Dipsy and Laa Laa had been scared off by a spider in a Little Miss Muffet re-creation, Po shouted "Po frighten pider way". And frighten the spider away, she did. She also counts to three in Chinese (ya, yi, sah).

Kristin AGD 09-11-2003 03:46 PM

We have the original Po doll that was recalled because people were mis-interpreting her. :p

Hootie 09-11-2003 04:14 PM

Not to offend anyone but did they ever decide which one was gay? or was that just what people wanted to think?

AlphaGamDiva 09-11-2003 04:19 PM

again! again!

No! :D

I am hoping that these are sex-less little creatures, so a sexual identity would be a mute point. But if one were going to be gay, it would be Tinky Winky. ;)

BirthaBlue4 09-11-2003 05:20 PM

Well, being a Teletubbie conniseur (I have a 2 1/2 year old, this is what I know:

Have you ever wondered at the slight coloring differences in their faces? I read an article in the USA TOday way back when the Teletubbies first came to the US, and Dipsy is supposed to emulate a Black Tubby, and Po is supposed to be Asian, and I can't remember what Tinky Winky and Laa Laa are supposed to be.

They are NOT sexless creatures. Tinky Winky and Dipsy are male (they are first in the line up incidentally) and Laa Laa and Po are girls. They refer to each respectively as him and her.

Tinky Winky IS suspect. He carries around a red purse (not only seemingly gay, but a poor fashion choice, since TW is purple).

That's about all I know. I was personally perturbed by the baby in the sun the first time I saw it. My daughter likes them, but not as much anymore. She discovered Dora the Explorer and Blue's Clue's, her shows of choice nowadays.

I wasn't refering to their gender. I was just hoping that teletubbies don't have sex :D .

LOL! I used to watch the Tubbies all the time. Freshman year in college I had the Laa-Laa and Po dolls and a poster in my room. There's something oddly soothing about them.

this is the thing that REALLY freaks me out. I hope no one ever puts it on while I am enjoying an adult beverage.

ZTAMich 09-11-2003 08:56 PM

I love my Po! Each of my sisters and I have a telletubbie. Mom too. :) 4 crazy telletubbies and 4 crazy girls in our family!

smiley21 09-11-2003 09:18 PM

i cant handle telletubbies. then again 'sleeping beauty' still gives me nightmares. no offensive to those who like that movie, but i think it came staight from the devil himself. anyway, i am getting away from the point- telletubbies is just plain freaky. i think the creators had a few screws loose upstairs.

I feel your pain. We have 3 Elmo tapes and my son (18 months old) will watch them over and over and over. He knows them by heart...but you know what...he can count!
