OMG...Rush starts MONDAY!!!
Hello Everyone! I just wanted to post this morning and let everyone know that Rush starts at Shippensburg University (Pennsylvania) on Monday Sept 15th!!! Last night (Wednesday) was Sorority Open House. Boy, was I SO nervous trying to think of questions that didn't sound lame. I think I made a fine impression though and I'm so glad I went. Well, like I said...Rush starts Monday and ends on Thursday September 25th. Wish me Luck and feel free to send TIPS to help me!!! Thanks a ton!!! :D

i see a couple of locals on the list. on my campus the locals don't rush with the nationals (the have fall rush but they have competely separate events) - does it also work that way on other campuses?

Thanks for all the support girls. I'm so excited and I can't wait until Monday gets here!!! Is it normal to be nervous?? This is all that I can think about...I'm gonna go crazy before next week!!
Based on my impressions last night at Open House, Phi Sigma Sigma, Alpha Omicron Pi, Delta Zeta, and Alpha Sigma Tau are my top choices. I especially liked Phi Sig. The girls were really nice and I loved talking to them. We only got 10 minutes to talk, but I talked to the Recruitment Chair for most of the time. I honestly think I made a good impression with her...does that help? I mean, does she have more power over bids than someone else or anything like that? That might be a stupid question...but oh well..at least I'll know the answer. Besides just being able to talk easily with the girls at Phi Sig, I felt like there was some kinda connection but I can't really put my finger on it. Anyway, there was definately something there that I didn't feel with all the other houses. I really think I would find a good home with Phi Sig, but I'm still willing to go to as many rush events as i can next week. Who knows...I might find out that I like someone else more and that I'd fit in better there!!! Thanks for all the support...it makes me feel alot better. Someone told me earlier that Ship isn't very competitive. I guess I shouldn't be as nervous as I am...but I can't help it. Any suggestions on how to avoid being so nervous??? |
WOO HOO again to liking AOTT but keep an open mind and just see where recruitment can take you. Its an experience you never forget, so have FUN!!

Glad to see you're keeping an open mind about the houses you like. and of course I'm especially glad to see Phi Sig in your top choices. As for who has voice, I can't really say this is the same in each chapter but after seeing how some of the chapters here in California do it and how we do it they seem to operate on the same lines. In my chapter each sister has a voice and a vote - all are equal, and that seems standard with any chapter. However both the President and Recruitment chair in my chapter do not have a voice or vote unless absolutely needed. I have been at another chapter where the MRC was able to voice her opinion but didn't vote and another one where she voiced and voted. I suggest just getting to know the sisters as much as possible in the short time spans you have with each house. Also, don't forget to check out each National Website and even the Chapters website if they have one (although you've probably already done this) :D The biggest thing of all is to just try to relax and enjoy the whole recruitment process. Hey everyone! I know you're all waiting to hear how things went last night. I could only make it to one rush last night and that was AST. There was like a Luau theme and I met alot of new people. It was alot of fun. AST is definately one of my top three right now. Tonight I think Delta Zeta and Sigma Delta have rushs but I'm not sure what time. I'll keep everyone up to date!

Hey everyone! I just need to update everyone on how rush is going so far. Unfortunately, I've only been to 2 rush parties this week. The first (as I wrote about earlier) was AST. I think from now on, I'm going to use different names for the sororities. I don't wanna jinx anything. Last night I went to a Disney themed rush with 'blue'. I had SO much fun. I enjoyed last nite's SO much more than the first one I went to. Lol-don't hate me...but I need to take AST off my list of top choices. I realized last night that I was trying to hard at AST's party and I should'nt have. At 'blue's party last night, I didn't need to even worry about being nervous because the girls were EXACTLY like me. We got along great and time just flew by. On Monday night, I kept looking at my watch, thinking "when is this going to be OVER?!?!" but last night, the rush was over before I even realized it. When I started thinking about joining, I had certain ideas about each sorority...but I decided to keep an open mind and 'blue' definately took me by surprise. I never thought that the girls were so much fun and I LOVED it last night. This afternoon, 'blue' has another rush at 330. It's another luau themed party. I know I'll have fun. Well, I'll keep everyone up to date on how the week progresses. Thanks for all your tips and comments! Last night I met a girl who definately needs to take a look at this site. She was SO FAKE it just amazed me. She didn't have a mind of her own and she agreed with EVERYTHING one of the sister's said. GOD-I hope she doesn't get invited back. She was just downright ANNOYING me to death. Another thing...one of the sister's made a comment about getting a parking ticket last weekend, but she said she had never gotten a driving ticket. So this girl puts her two cents in and says "well that means you can drive fine, you just can't read". I was like..god, just SHUT up! I'm sure that other girls picked up on her fake attitude too. Oh god, and another thing...she brought up guys/parties. We were standing outside on the house's veranda and the greek house next door (TKE) was bringing up a beer pong table and a keg. Well, one of the sisters outside said something and this girl just pretended to know everything about EVERY guy at TKE...and honestly she just bugged the crap out of me ALL night. Lol, okay girls..sorry about venting but I just REALLY hope the sister's noticed her behavior because I don't think she deserves to be invited back. Well, I need to start getting ready for the Luau rush party. I hope you all are having fun and I hope this afternoon goes well.
