Pittsburgh Boatride

Party with a purpose

by Debbie Norrell
For New Pittsburgh Courier

There is nothing like an Omega Psi Phi party. And when that party is coupled with the Labor Day weekend and a distinct purpose, it’s even better. Omega weekend 2003 began Aug. 29 at The Phase III in Homewood, where the crowd partied until 2 a.m.

Despite a rainy start on Saturday, the "Que B-Out" cookout was an outstanding success at the Hawthorne Grove in Highland Park. More than 200 turned out for food, music and family fun.

On Aug. 31. close to 900 boarded the Majestic and joined the Q brothers for an "Aqua Boogie Affair." The party was on! Deejay Nick Nice kept the crowd on their feet with a mix of old and new school music.

"People of all walks of life came out to have a good time. We pride ourselves that our affairs allow young and old, white collar, blue collar, dog collar and no collar to come together in a safe but fun venue without breaking your wallet. The beautiful thing is that our efforts will go back into the community," said Carlton "Big Daddy" Heywood.

If you attended the trio of events you may have noticed the number of Omega men who traveled from up to five hours with Pittsburgh as their destination. Their mission was "to turn the mutha out" for a good cause.

"One hundred percent of our proceeds supports social action activities and scholarships from the Iota Phi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity" commented event co-chair Joe Hogan. Hogan chaired the event along with Derrick Russell.

Hogan added, "I think this was one of the best boat rides in history. We had so many people attend from out-of-town. Next year we may add a second boat."

Whether one boat or two, the "Q" boat ride was non-stop fun. This year the planning committee had the foresight to hold the "Step Show" early in the evening. As always it was exciting to see these brothers kick and step.
"Bow, wow, wow, yippee yo, yippee yea!

You turned out to be a nice person despite the circumstances of such substandard surroundings. Your smiley definitely doesn't need any shades if its from the "mistake by the lake". What is a Brown?

LMAO!! Doggy, Ideal08 and I both are from Cleveland. I have always wondered what a Brown is. I was told a time ago but forget. :(

babyboy02 10-09-2003 11:57 PM

A Brown

Brown has many definitions relative to Cleveland:

1. One who rushes for 115 yards(William Green) against the 2nd ranked defense in the AFC.
2. One who completes 20 of 25 passes.
3. One who intercepts a bum and returns it 75 yards for a touchdown.
4. One who stays with a bruh from Slippery Rock(I'll only call him Misery) and can rub it in all the way up until 11/24.

On another note.
The bruhs from Cheney are owt. I set Troy owt when he came up for the classic weekend. All of those bruhs are good bruhs. Jason, etc. They gave me the royal treatment.

GO BROWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you drink "pop"? Do you "warsh" you clothes? Do you read Dr. Seuss books in the style of Bone Thugs & Harmony. Why is the Rock& Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland?. Do you tell people that you are from Shaker Heights when you really live down the street from a rusted factory? Cleveland, the town where you have to bring a fire extinguisher with you to go fishing in the lake. What is harder than finding Osama? Being a member of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. As Russell Simmons says......" Thank you, good night and God bless."

No, WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS is a SUBURB of Cleveland. You, my geographically disinclined friend are thinking ogf Warren, Ohio. WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS is BLESSED TO BE UNDER the mayorial leadership of Marcia L. Fudge, past national president of DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, Inc.

Folks in Charlotte know exactly what I mean when I say POP.

:D  :p :o :D

I know peeps from from East St.Lousi but none fron the Lou. Y'all got that country grammar thing going on but they do "warsh" clothes in Cleveland.

CT4. Is Marcia the one that is like 6'2" or something? Everyone else looks like they are standing in a hole next to her or is that Gwen Boyd?

There are no Bruhs on the Browns nor any from my alma mater and they are the Steelers sworn enemy so they gets no love no matter how many nice sorors come from there. However, it was the Bruhs who gave the DAWGPOUND its nickname (thats a fact)

I have never heard folks say WARSH in Cleveland. Soror Gwen Boyd is the tall one.

what up Doggystyle

My favorite Pitt Bruh.. I was gonna call you this weekend before the Pitt/Notre Dame game just to holla. But after the upset, I just decided I'd hit you up later. I've been to ATL a couple of times to see John's alma mater, Mays High, play. I'll problably hit you on the cell in a few minutes Bruh.

*side note* Bruh Steve McNair is the BEST RIGHT NOW IN THE NFL. But the Steelers know that after my Titans put the wood to em again.. yuk yuk yuk...

And as for your Alma Mater... Larry Fitzgerald is the best.. buuuut If you can't stop the run, you can't win in pro or college football (except for that miracle Michigan win over Minnesota this past Friday night)

continuing the hijack...

A Brown is really a who. Cleveland's team was named after Paul Brown, the man who brought Pro football to Ohio. His family still runs/owns the Bengals.

Why hurt me Dawg? Rooting for my squads in any sport is just a death wish. I'm more depressed than Rush Limbaugh without his OxyContin.

I thought that they were named after the color of y'all's lake, lol. Thanks for the info.

babyboy02 10-14-2003 04:03 PM

What is a Brown?

Actually...They were named after the color of the substance they left all over the Steeler's faces after the final gun went off. Not a good week for Pittsburgh yet again. Pitt continues to drop in the polls, The Steelers continue to look horrible, ex-Steeler Kordell is stinking Chicago up. Oh by the way,

BROWNS WIN AGAIN!
BROWNS WIN AGAIN
