Please pray for a Chi Omega sister

Hi everyone. I got some sad news today. My step-mom's favorite neice (a Chi-O at U. of S. Carolina) had a seizure of some kind yesterday and probably won't make it due to loss of oxygen to her brain. Without going into too much detail there was a delay in 911 call and a problem with the traec in the ambulance. She did NOT try to commit suicide and they aren't sure what caused this. The sad part is had it not been for the 911 delay, she would be better off now. Her father died of cancer in Jan of 02 and the family has had a difficult time since. I thought I would post this b/c I knew I could reach a lot of people in a short amount of time. Please say a prayer for Erin Hudson if you can. Thank you.

Actually I'm not sure she was full time at school anymore. Since her father was so sick with cancer she had to quit school and was there to help him. She is still a chi-o, of course, i just don't know if she was taking classes this semester or whatnot. Like I said, they've had a difficult time. Thank you guys so much for your prayers. It really means a lot.

JohnsDGsweethrt 09-09-2003 03:28 AM

A ? for the chi-os

Can you Chi-Os tell me. Isn't yall's flower the white carnation? I was thinking about sending Erin a bouquet to the hospital. I sponsored Erin when she went through rush. She was an in-house legacy to Chi-O and I know for sure her sister will be there at the hospital as well. I only ask but I didn't know if the white flowers would be appropriate. I feel certain her sister would "get it" so to speak but I don't want anyone else thinking "well b/c these are white they must be for the funeral" or some crap. Hell I don't even know if there is a certain type of flowers for funerals either. I am just praying so much right now. I wish I could be with her. I live overseas. We just moved here in March and since then my Grandfather has had a stroke and now this. I apologize I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party I just feel helpless and it frustrates me :(

MelodyCat 09-09-2003 08:00 AM

I wouldn't consider white flowers to be funeral flowers. If you really don't feel comfortable sending white, then maybe you could send a cardinal and straw bouquet?

Erin, her family, and her Chi-O sisters are all in my prayers.

honeychile 09-09-2003 08:31 AM

The bouquet of carnations seems to be a lovely idea to me!

My prayers for a complete recovery, and for peace for both her family and her Chi Omega family.

xo_kathy 09-09-2003 09:35 AM

Yes, our flower is the white carnation. Maybe a red and yellow bouquet with some white carnations in it would be nice? Thanks you for the kind thoughts and for the information as well.

I made a phone call and found out where you can send notes of encouragement and sympathy if you would like:

BrownEyedGirl thanks so much. But I found out Erin wasn't enrolled in school this semster and isn't an Active sister of her chapter currently all though she is still a member of the sorority so I'm not sure if her family etc would get the letters. The most current news as of Tuesday is that they are going to do a test which uses some type of dye to see how much blood flow is going to the brain. After they see the results of that test they will then have to make the decision to take her off the respirator. I can't imagine having to make that choice and all of this saddens me so much. I will keep yall updated on the news I hear today. Thanks again

JohnsDGsweethrt 09-10-2003 08:38 AM

I just called home and they pronounced Erin dead sometime yesterday. The test showed no blood flow to the brain. Erin is an organ donor and I can only assume they did whatever means necessary or whatever they do to preserve her organs. Even though this saddens me greatly at least through organ donation she can in a sense live on through other people. I rejoice in knowning that she is with her father and my mother in heaven. Our parents met while my mom and her dad were getting chemo for kidney cancer back in 95. Erin's mom introduced Jean (her sister and my step-mom) to my Dad some months after my mother's death. This is just such a shock to me. I've never known anyone around my age to die and I suppose most people think that death is something gennerally that doesn't happen to too many young people. I'm sorry I know I'm not making any sense right now. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. If you could continue to pray for the Hudson family I would be forever greatful. Thank you

Melanie

Melanie, my sincerest sympathy - to you, to Erin's family, to the Chi Omega family, and everyone else who is touched by such a loss. Having lost a sorority sister while I was in school, I can understand the depth of the pain. God bless each of you.

Tom Earp 09-10-2003 09:35 AM

Life is so precious, especially for someone to be lost so young.

My Heartfelt sorrow and best of wishes go out to her family and the members of Chi Omega.

The tear that falls from the eye shows the love for one of our fellow Greeks.

JohnsDGsweethrt 09-10-2003 09:40 AM

tom thank you so much. I often quite literally don't understand your posts. lol. not that i'm stupid sometimes i just don't get them. lol. i think you speak in code. i got that one loud and clear. thank you

greeklawgirl 09-10-2003 11:33 AM

My deepest condolences to you, her family, and her Chi Omega sisters. What a horrible tragedy, but God bless Erin for being an organ donor. Hopefully, her generosity will mean that some family somewhere will not have to experience the pain you are enduring right now. My thoughts and prayers. :(
