Who was at their kid's initation?
We didn't have a legacy go through the entire time I was in Phi Mu at my chapter -- but then again, I didn't pledge until junior year!
Just wondering -- who out there saw their kid (or family member... I remember a Sigma talking about her mom getting initiated) join the other side? |
this was before i joined, but one of my chapter sisters was an inhouse legacy and her mother was at her initiation and gave her her pin at initiation to wear until she recieved her own
|
One of my sisters had her mom pin her. Her mom was the past president of our Omega Xi (U of Cinci) chapter. It was such a touching moment. :)
|
I was able to see several sets of brothers go through. It was pretty cool to witness. :)
|
We had a legacy whose mom, aunt, and grandma flew down from Washington to be at her initiation. It was really touching to see the generations of sigma kappa's represented
|
While again I have no children, there were several Brothers with Initiates.
One Brother had 2 brothers and two sons. Brother had 2 sons. One Brother had a brother and future son in law. One Brother had a father who is now our Advisor. So, now his son is his Brother! Brother from a different chapter had a son. One Brother had a Brother and will be at LXAAlums Rush this weekend! Damn, I am getting confused!:o |
At my initiation alone, there were two mothers pinning their daughters, one was an in house legacy, so her sister helped too, and then there was another girl who had her older sister come pin her. And on top of that, there were two more legacys in my pledge class whose mother and grandma couldn't make it, lol.
|
At the initiation for the pledge class below me, a girl's mom was supposed to be there, but she "got stuck in traffic" and wasn't going to make it in on time. The mom was in fact already in town and was seated behind her daughter so she wouldn't be seen. When the girl was being pinned, her mom snuck up behind her and surprised her! It was so sweet because the girl was just in tears she was so excited. The same year, another girl's sister came down from Mercer to pin her.

One of the women from my pledge class...Beta Lambda Fall 02...had her mother pin her...The whole room burst into tears just to see the special new bond they had created :)
|
Ok, dammit, my official story is that "I don't care which sororities my daughters join; I just want them to be happy" and I'm sticking to it.
....But, geez, I'd really, really love to pin at least one of them ;) |
We have a triple legacy this year so I'm wondering if her mom, aunt, or grandma will come down for her initiation. I've seen an alumnae be there for her mother's initiation and it was absolutely beautiful!

One of our PC '02 members had her mommy at Initiation - it was really cute... and one of our PC '01 members had both mom and grandma at initiation - I wasn't there, but heard it was great.
My mom is a DZ - I think she's happy that I just found a place I love so much, but I have noticed her looking wistfully at the DZ house when she's on campus! |
One of my pledge sister's biological sister pinned her at initiation!
|
When I was initiated in March, a mom (alumna of the same chapter) was there to pin her daughter. She said it was the same room that they did a candle pass when she got engaged. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

one of the girls who was a year behind me was a legacy. her sister went to school in maine and i think that she may have asked her to come to inititation. her sister told her she had exams or something and that it was not possible. in the mean time, amy was making a plan with our chapter to get picked up at the airport!!! kelly had no idea that she was there. the sisters (including amy) were already in the room when the phis filed in. when kelly saw her sister sitting with the rest of the chapter, she burst into tears and gave her a huge hug. it was sooooo sweet!!!!

We had several sister/in house legacies at initiation, but after all the drama of our 5-generation legacy, she was asked to be initiated at Grand Convention! We was robbed!! :) |
My mom pinned me...it's probably my favorite memory of my mother ever.
|
I don't care if my (future) daughter goes to college on the moon! If she goes Kappa, I'll be there to pin her Key over her heart.
Plus, it'd be cool to see the moon, y'know. Hee... brings new meaning to the term "lunar colonization." |
One of our in house legacies last year was pinned by her biological sister...that was really touching...Also another sister was a legacy through her grandmother who had passed away a few years before...A surprise was that her family sent her grandmother's pin to her diamond sis as a surprise and she was pinned with that pin...

Many moons ago, a young lady in the PC a year behind me was a double legacy-- mom and grandmother. They were both at the initiation. It was really neat to see the three generations at the inititation.
My daughter is now a HS senior who insists she is not going to go through rush. Her first choice school has a KD chapter. I can hope she changes her mind, but alas she has been stubborn since birth, don't see things changing too much when she goes away to school. Should she decide to go through rush, I want her to pick the house where she is comfortable and if it is KD, you can bet that I will be at her inititation!!! DaffyKD |
Okay, I'm happy that my 3 collegiate daughters have gone AOII and Chi O but I want the next one to go Pi Phi! I want to be at her initiation! I want to pin her!
(dancing an impatient dance) |
my mom, one aunt and grandmother were all at my inititation. it just made it that much more special, knowing that i was joining the long tradition of sigma kappa in my family.
|
As long as my future daughters are happy....but I'd love to get the chance to pin at least one!
|
::sighs::
ok, now you all are making me want to go out and have a legacy!!!!!!!!
no no no no no no no babies yet for mandie but when there are........legacies all the way :-D Should they be he's and not she's, it'll be ok, as long as they are Sig Eps (i'm not married nor dating a Sig Ep, but I have loved almost ever Sig Ep I've ever had the pleasure of meeting) Greek Love and Mine, Mandie |
My father made it to my initiation ceremony. It was extremely special because the chapter had asked him to speak a part in it. He also pinned me with his badge that I wore until my own came in.

This is a twist on most of the above posts. Many years ago ZTA installed a very old local as a ZTA chapter at Elon College. All of the alumnae of the local were invited to be initiated if they wished. Several did and one special lady was the mother of a ZTA alumna from the University of Alabama (my alma mater). Without her knowing it, the daughter flew up and pinned her mother! Believe me, there wasn't a dry eye in the chapel.
The mother became very active as a ZTA alumna and eventually became a member of National Council - as well as a very good friend of mine. I was a member of the Installation Committee for that weekend and this is a special Zeta memory for me. |
Aww this kinda makes me wish that SOMEONE in my family was greek, but no of course not that would be my luck lol. But hopefully if my kids go greek and ended pledging the sorority that I finally choose :) hehe I would definitly be there for them. I know from what others have said that it is a very emotional moment.

I had the pleasure and honor of pining my mother back in 1997 when she became of member of my sisterhood through my chapter. I had decided not to be her sponsoring Soror during the membership process so that she could meet other chapter members, but I was on hand to personally pin her with her membership pin at the ceremony.
|
I joined a colony, and one of my sisters found out she was a legacy through her 89 year old grandmother, that she never even knew was in greek life at all. Her grandmother pinned her and it was the cutest thing ever, especailly because it was such a specail day for us because all 50 of us were pinned on the same day just 20 days before our installation! I am almost a legacy, but not quite, my grandmother rushed and pledged Delta Zeta at UCONN, but her longtime boyfriend (my grandfather) got drafted and she had to drop out of school 2 days before she was to get in to marry him so she could go live on the base with him. I never knew anything about this until I told her i recived a bid from DZ, she cried her brains out and told me she regrets that she never was offically in it.
