Britney Spears came out swinging for President Bush on Wednesday during an interview with CNN's Tucker Carlson.

CARLSON: A lot of entertainers have come out against the war in Iraq. Have you?

SPEARS: Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens.

CARLSON: Do you trust this president?

SPEARS: Yes, I do.

Wow....

And she's articulate too. :rolleyes:

i am actually happy with britney's answer. it is nice not to see a celebrity make a show of taking sides for their support of the war.

No joke. I bet all those celebrities against the war were trying to contact their PR reps when we started kickin' Iraqui butt...

uhm, lets think honestly and logically here..chances are britney spears couldn't care less about what the president doesn..she won't give it a second thought after that interview..

however, lets pretend for a minute she actually does have a clue whats going on and actually didn't agree with what the president does or has done in the past.. shes not going to jeopardize whats left of her dwindling career and risk the backlash (ala dixie chicks)

I doubt she has the educational background or willingness to read a newspaper or magazine to make an objective, adult decision on the quality of the President.
I'd be just as hard on her if she said that she didn't trust the president. She just sounds like an idiot.

Which news source should she listen to? Perhaps one of the liberal bastions of objective truth.

Of course we should trust the president and all of our elected officials. Isn't that what a representative republic is all about? We all know that politicians don't lie or distort the truth as a matter of principle. None of us should concern ourselves with the decisions the president is making. Whether or not the majority of voters didn't vote for him doesn't matter- he has the job now and we should just have faith that he knows what he's doing.

Did I SUGGEST a certain point of view? Um, no. :rolleyes: Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass whether or not you read the Utne Reader or National Review, just as long as you can understand and intelligently state your views. I know that either side isn't totally objective (which is why I read BOTH publications), so don't get off on that tangent. :rolleyes:

Maybe I should dumb this down a little bit: I can't imagine her being politically-minded enough to question what the mainstream media--either side--says.

I'm gonna agree with those on here that think her statement was more along the lines of career preservation that political activisim.

I think after the Dixie Chicks fiasco, most entertainers have realized that making throwaway political statements can have a backlash on their careers. I'm not saying that natalie maines was wrong for her opinion, but she's an idiot if she thinks that she can say something like that and her main audience(read: conservative, country music fans) wouldn't have an opinion.

although, seeing as how most of britney's target audience are the HS kids and college kids that were protesting involvement in Iraq, she might have been better served by saying, i trust the president, but, war in iraq is like, wrong man.

Did anyone else see this interview? Britney was smacking on her gum the entire time. Does she have any manners? She also spoke like a little girl! She always wants to be treated as a woman. Maybe she should act like one!

Britney usually doesn't bother me but this interview just got to me. Two of the news anchors were making fun of her chomping down on her gum.

TL, completely agreed. If I, for example, had a medical emergency and my doctors walked in wearing something terribly inappropriate, smacking his/her gum, and saying "um, like, ya know" a lot, I would request transfer to another facility. Sure (I believe) Goethe said"Treat a man as he should be and he will", but if one sees no potential, then why bother? All she'll ever be in my eyes is some two-bit half talent with a penchant for showing skin. If someone does like her, then that's great. But I don't!

Yeah? Not even Arnold and Charlton Heston? ;)

Well, if it means i don't have to hear Babs, Rosie O, or Alec Baldwin, i can make that sacrifice.

OMIGOSH! thank you so much for saying this. I saw that interview and first, what was with the wig? second, what was with the gum smacking on live television. she seemed so young and immature to me. was she high or "nice?"
I could not take her seriously and she was annoying the hell out of me. I am a closet brit fan, but she obviously was not taught how to be interviewed. and i thought her comment on bush was vague and "safe," considering the backlash that the dixie chicks received for giving their honest opinion.

Yeah I think Britney was just fed a line to say - she probably has no idea what is going on in politics....take her little interview at the NFL show. When asked who she was rooting for she said the Jets...but when the crowd started booing her, she changed her answer. I am sure if someone asked her to go into more of an explanation, her little bleached head would explode.

i know. did you notice how the interviewer dumbed down his next question. "um so do you really like pepsi? which kind of pepsi do you like?" i was like "uh, duh. this is making my brain hurt."

Back to the original question.

I trust President Bush...to do what's best for himself and the Republican Party -- not what is necessarily best for me and/or the rest of the country.

By the way, I would say exactly the same thing about Gore.

These guys aren't our friends. They're "born with a silver spoon in their mouth" politicians.

This isn't worth a thread, but I thought it was pretty clever:

"In late January 2003, an old man approached the White House from Lafayette

Actuallly, I thought Clinton did some good and some dumb things during his tenure. That's pretty true of any President, though. Anyway, hope this brought a chuckle.

I read a letter to the editor not long ago that I thought summed up the Clinton vs. Bush arguement beautifully


"During the Clinton years we had one of the lowest unemployment rates in history, the economy was up, he kept us out of major conflict with the exception of Kosovo, and lied to us just like every other president has done since George Washington. Now in the Bush years, the unemployment rate is at an all time high, the economy sucks (the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer), so far we have fought in Afghanistan, Iraq and are now looking at Syria, Liberia, Saudi Arabia and Iran (when will it end?), and like Clinton, Bush has lied to us. Clinton passed laws for the common well being of America - Bush is passing legislation for the common well being of not only his Republican backing, but his own pocket book.

They're showing reruns of The West Wing on Bravo (I think) every night. Going into and out of commercials, they've done these little bumpers which are real happenings from the West Wing.

Last night they had one about the practical joke Clinton (or his staff) played on Bush.

When the Bush team took over, they discovered the "W's" had been removed from the computer keyboards.

Pretty darned funny, I think, given the asture setting.

In one part they discuss Skull and Bones...

I suspected that George Herbert was a Skull... I guess Dubya got his way paid into Skull. But I did not know that Senator Kerry was a Skull...

Maybe 'cuz Dubya was a Skull, he was able to be annouced as the President by the Supreme Court 'cuz some of the Justices are Skulls too, perhaps???
