Yes! I LOVE Forensic Files, i Detective, the System, Dominic Dunne's show, HBO Autopsy, Monk...I love all that. I've been hooked on Forensic Files and extemely interesting in Court TV for the past year or so. I even followed the Chante Mallard case everyday on CourtTV.

I was listening to a popular local radio show this morning and a commercial came on advertising tonight's episode of Forensic Files. I wasn't even paying attention until I heard "horseshoe with a lightening bolt going through it"...I was like  A friend of mine heard the same thing and called me earlier today. This should be interesting.

I am a junkie for all those shows, and I saw the preview last night, and yes I saw the brand. It is an Omega brand with a lighting bolt going through it.

I love all of these types of shows...however, have you noticed that about 90% of the victims are causian females? I know good and well that they are NOT 90% of the general population OR 90% of the murder victims OR murder is not their leading cause of death so....WHY are the cases skewed in this manner?!

50 cents to the GC'er with the correct answer...

First I love those shows and Law and Order!!! My own $19.08 on the question.

Most victims of murder are at the hands of not only a male but a male of their (the victims) ethnic background. Of course as with any thing in life there are excepetions to the rules. With that in mind most caucasian women are obviously killed by caucasian men, most non-caucasian women who are murdered are usually stabbed or shot by an assailant that is familiar to the victim and has committed the crime leaving OBVIOUS evidence since most non-minority murders are not premeditated. These shows are geared at catching people in ways unimaginable such as a hair follicles or the print of ones shoe track or the fiber from a coat worn by 3% of the population, you get the point. So most non-caucasian female murders that are solved (which would have to be a pre-requisite to be on these shows) were solved by obvious evidence or have not been solved at all. So the requirments which would have to be 1) a solved murder (think about how many non-caucasian women are murdered each year and thier cases go on unsolved) 2) a murdered who tried to conceal the evidence and 3) The resources and man power into investigating a murder. So basically in my mind caucasian female murders are probably commited by assailants who are more likely to conceal evidence and caucasian female murders are probably more of an "importance" in these forensic labs.

FeeFee 09-04-2003 09:21 AM

Did anyone watch the show? What happened? Whodunit????

:(

NOWorNEVER 09-04-2003 10:06 AM

Spr99_Diva was right. It wasn't the guy who was an Omega.
This recent college graduate, Hope, had a job at either ABC or NBS in the newsroom. She and her young son lived in apartment complex. They say she was smart, focused, etc. so when she didn't show up to work and didn't answer her phone, they checked on her. She was found stabbed to death in her bedroom. There were knives everywhere and blood on a piece of broken glass. Witnesses said they saw a man running from Hope's apartment the night before with greek symbols. So, they arrested the guy, who turned out to be Hope's exboyfriend, but his DNA didn't match the blood found at the crime scene. The police talked to everyone in the apartment complex and nothing. They tried to match the DNA found to someone in this DNA database. But they were unsuccessful. Like, a year or so later, they did it again...this time more advance, or something like that. And this time it matched to a guy who had been arrested for rape who lived in the apartment complex at the time. His name didn't come up the first time and no one suspected him because he was only 16 at the time of Hope's murder. Anyways, he said he didnt do it, but the DNA matched. The only nagging thing was they still don't know why the man with Omega symbol was running from her apartment the night before. The kid who did it was sentenced to death.

FeeFee 09-04-2003 10:19 AM

Thanks NoworNever. :D

treblk 09-04-2003 11:31 AM

the sad thing about the show is that the Que's name is ruined for live. I felt bad for him.

Yeah, I felt bad for him because stuff like that stays with you forever. :(

Spr99_Diva 09-04-2003 12:07 PM

Yeah but the questions still remain:

1) Why was the Omega running from her apartment?

2) Why was he not wearing a shirt?

I am glad that DNA was available at the time of his arrest because like everyone said, if it wasn't for the DNA evidence, the Omega wouldn't have definitely been accused.

I've heard this story on Lifetime's Final Justice. They did a piece on Hope's mother and her trying to get the international DNA database set up.

Did they not speculate that he went to her house and found her dead, locked the door (that didn't make any sense to me) and ran away. Now they said he hopped into a car and sped away..where did the car come from?
Who what he with?
and how come they never interviewed the kid?

BabyBlue91 09-04-2003 02:08 PM

I went to Court TV's web site and then I looked for the woman's name. Rest assured the perpetrator was not Greek -- in fact, he was only 16 when he committed the crime. Sad, sad.

ladeia 09-04-2003 03:36 PM

I try to watch all of Forenisc Files, The System, City Confidental, Autospy (1-9), America Undercover. My all time favs are Law and Order (new and old) but especially SVU!! If I can watch it undistrubed, ahhhh...

WenD08 09-04-2003 04:23 PM

i think the reason they didn't interview the real killer was b/c he didn't fit the "profile". as far as the ex, i think they speculated that he did walk in, see his ex lying on the floor murdered, ran, then drove away but for what purpose? they didn't charge him w/anything after the real killer was caught and convicted so the speculation was just that. it was quite understandable (but not right, mind you) that the ex ran from the scene since the victim told at least one person that this man was physically abusive, as was reported last night.
i love this kinda stuff. maybe in my next life i'll be an attorney:D

Ok, I watched for the first time Law and Order when I was on vacation, and I am hooked. I don't watch it in primetime, but I watch all the reruns that come on TNT and USA. Well on Memorial Day they had a L&O marathon...14 hours. I watched starting at 10am, and the last episode went off at midnight...I was loving it.

treblk 09-05-2003 10:49 AM

I had a Soror who worked around the corner from me and her office had a t.v. in the conference room and every afternoon at 1p.m. EST, I would be there with them for Law & Order rerun. :D
But she since no longer works there, my Law & Order lunch are over!!:(

mccoyred 09-05-2003 05:28 PM

I hadn't thought about the whole solved vs unsolved and ethnic background thing however my thought process was on the emotional pull that the victims' background has on the process!

I watch ALL of the shows! My daughter watches them with me because she wants to be a Forensic Pathologist. I love watching those shows. Sometimes, I can't believe how stupid some of these people are. Why do you kill someone for money? You won't be able to spend it because you always get caught! Another thing, anytime a spouse kills another spouse, 9 times out of 10 it was the spouse that did it. I did see the one where they put the man in jail because they said he killed his wife, but they exhumed her body twice and it turned out that she had a very rare heart condition. I did say 9 times out of 10, didn't I? Everyone have a blessed day. Remember those who perished 2 years ago today.
