*~*~Kara's Official Rush Story~*~*
Hey, my name's Kara and I've been looking at the site for a while now and everyone here seems so nice and helpful. Well I am an incoming freshman at the University of Washington and I decided that I really want to rush. Rush starts on the 14th with orientation. I am so excited but so nervous, I just hope that I can find a great house and they will want me too! So I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi!
PS I edited the title from "i'm new and rushing soon" to "*~*~Kara's Official Rush Story~*~*" because rush starts today! |
Welcome, what chapters are on your campus. I know sigma kappa has a chapter there, there chapter house is supposed to be really cool (someday I want to go and visit). Good luck on recruitment.
|
There are 16 houses...
Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Delta Pi Alpha Gamma Delta Alpha Phi Alpha Xi Delta Chi Omega Delta Delta Delta Delta Gamma Delta Zeta Gamma Phi Beta Kappa Alpha Theta Kappa Delta Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Sigma Kappa Zeta Tau Alpha In april they had this thing called greek weekend where i got to spend the weekend in one of the houses and go through a mock recruitment activity. anyway i met the girls in Gamma Phi Beta and they seemed really nice and down to earth. Just keep an open mind , have fun most importantly and be yourself; ask yourself one ? (besides being or looking tired) can you be sister with the ladies in that particular GLO as you visit and chat w/ the sisters. The veterans will fill in the gaps I didn't cover. p.s. sorry this is worded ackward. |
Good Luck Kara!!! :D
|
Good luck Kara! I hope you find your home!
|
Good Luck with rush.
|
Best of luck with your recruitment...I don't know particularly about what the chapters are like at your university, but the national organizations represented there are all wonderful...any one of them would be a great choice...just follow your heart, and be yourself! :)

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right in my home town! I have been waiting for someone to go UW. I didn't go there, but I'm a WA native and my dad's an alum so my blood still runs a little purple and gold. Good Luck and have fun. And yeah for Gamma Phi. Yes, I'm biased but from what I know all of the houses are very good. You should have no trouble finding a great house. |
Best of luck to you - have a GREAT time!
|
Hi Kara!
I'm glad to see that you are going through recruitment at UW. I was lucky enough to meet many of my ZTA sisters from there over the summer. They are a great group of women, any girl would be lucky to have them as sisters! You have a lot of strong chapters to choose from, I don't envy your position! Good luck with recruitment, I can't wait to read your story! |
Welcome to GreekChat, Kara, and the very best of luck during Rush!!
It's been a couple years since I've been to WSU, but the campus always looks so beautiful!! Of course, I love Washington so I may be biased! :) Be sure to let us know how things are going for you! |
I believe it's a more competitive system than some others (not like southern rush of course).
|
Good luck and have fun!
|
Good Luck! Yay a West Coast recruitment!
|
Maybe now Gamma Phi Beta will finally get a GC pledge!;) None here so far this fall.....
Good luck Kara! |
Thats cool, yeah i really hope the Gamma phi beta girls really like me. I am so afraid that I won't get any invites after the first few events, but i think i am just freaking myself out. I haven't even met the girls from each house yet, so I don't know which one i like the best. Hopefully I can find one that i feel really comfortable in!
|
Good luck in finding your home!
|
Just relax, be yourself and keep an open mind about all of the houses on campus.
And most of all, have fun! And be sure to keep us updated........ |
Best of luck!!!
|
Good luck at recruitment! You're going to have a blast and you have a great attitude, so don't worry! As for getting to know more girls, out of 16 houses I'm sure you'll find a few that make you feel welcome, if not all of them. I met some of my sisters from UW at Convention last year and we clicked really well- they're a great group of girls, I'd have to agree!
Good luck and hope you have a great time at recruitment! |
You have many stellar organizations to choose from! Best of luck to you!!
|

Hey Kara!
Finally, someone who is going to rush at the University of Washington! Don't be nervous at all--I'm sure that you will have an amazing time. My rush experience last year at UW was incredible. I personally am really excited for rush because I'm moving back into my sorority soon to begin Work Week! Anyway, good luck with rush! All the sororities at UW are great, and I'm sure you won't have a problem finding a fantastic home here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! |

The Sigma Kappa house is gorgeous!
I love the staircase. |
yes, I got to go in the sigma kappa house durring greek weekend and it was so beautiful on the inside and outside!
|
Woo hoo! A rush in the Northwest! I've met some of the KD's at UW, and they are awesome girls. Rush up there is competitive compared to other west coast schools, but it's still very laid back in many ways. Greek Life there is very exciting and there's a lot of campus support. Have an amazing time! Follow your heart and you will find your home.
|
good good luck...enjoy the ride.

1 week to go!
:D Yay! A week from today is my orientation for rush where I get to meet my r.c. and the 30+ girls in my group. I am so excited and I got all my outfits planned out so now all I gotta do is wait. And I was wondering what are some good questions to ask them just incase I am talking to a girl and we get the "awkward silence"? Whenever I get nervous I can't think of anything to say so I need some back up questions incase this happens if you know what i mean.
All the people that I have talked to say that every year just about 98% of all the people rushing get bids. So with 16 sororities at the UW does that sound correct? That seems like a pretty high number and makes me feel a lot better about the whole thing. So is anyone familier with rush at UW and know if thats right or if they are just saying that to us to encourage us? Well thanks so much for all of you encouragement you guys!! I will be sure to keep you updated on everything that happens!:) |
We're rooting for you!!!!
Good luck!!!! You have a great experience ahead of you, just make sure to wear comfy shoes as you will be doing a fair amount of walking. We have had a gorgeous summer in Seattle, last year it was sunny and beautiful of preference day, hope that the sun shines on you this year in more ways than one!
Growing up in Seattle most of my friends went to UW, and most went different houses ( Gamma Phi, AGD, ZTA, ADPi, Chi O, Pi Phi, and KD) and all were amazing groups with a ton to offer. So enjoy the ride and enjoy touring all of those gorgeous old houses -- they are really something! Anyone seen the inside of the KD house since the big time remodel??? I've driven by, it looks amazing from the outside...lucky girls:) |
Questions to ask during recruitment
All sororities have some kind of philanthropy (community service) that they support, so you can always feel free to ask about their national philanthropy and what they support locally.
|
you can also ask simple get to know you questions beyond the typical small talk. You can ask them questions about what kind of music they like, what kind of movies they like, what if any intramural sports they participate in, things like that. The sisters are just as hard trying to find common ground and connections with the PNM's just as much as the PNM's are with the sisters. In fact my chapter during rush tries it's best to ask the PNMs questions about their hobbies and interests as much and as soon as they can to try to step out of the same conversations that teh PNMs have experienced at every other chapter they have visited. (and apparently this is starting to work for us as we got more PNMs accepting our invitations for pref than any other chapter on campus, and we got quota plus 3). Other than that, i wouldnt worry too much about "awkward silences" as it may be her first time rushing on the other side as well, so dont always look at that as a bad thing :) good luck with rush!!!!!
