Hey Alums, got a question about your badge Hi Everybody, I've been an alum for a year now and I really miss wearing my badge. So I was wondering when and were and how often you guys wear your badge? Do you wear it to special occaisions? Office? Office parties? Religious services? Anything? Thanks! ~Allie~ |
I wear my badge everywhere when I have on badge attire. I'm proud of it, so I'm not going to let it sit in my jewelry box gathering dust! |
Unfortunately, the only time I dress up in Badge attire is at Fraternity functions, usually HomeComing and Founders Day!:( |
I wear it to sorority functions and also to work on special days like Founder's Day, Chapter Installation, etc. |

I do, however, have a small lapel pin (Delt Coat of Arms) that I wear whenever I wear coat and tie. |

I totally agree that the world is getting more and more casual. But to me, getting to pin your Badge on your suit is an excellent incentive to dress up! ;) (This is also coming from someone who works in an office environment where there is a frequent need to dress up--and therefore gets to wear her Badge quite often and proudly! :D) |
No, I would never wear my badge with "business casual" attire. I'd go the opposite end of the spectrum and wear it on formal gowns instead ;-) You guys who wear them a lot, do you wear them to work? I mean, are they appropriate in the office? And with or without dangles? When you say you wear them on Founders' Day etc, do you mean you wear them to the Greek ceremony for it, or just to the office on that day? Sorry, I wanna know what other people do, so I can get away with wearing mine more often ;-) I'm also TOTALLY wearing mine on my wedding day. |
I am a teacher, and as many of you know A LOT of teachers dress super casual for work, but I am one of the ones that dresses up every day. I typically wear my badge at least once a week. |
I wear mine to fraternity functions. For the professional world, Sigma Nu has an Alumnus service pin. Looks like this: http://www.mastersofdesign.com/image...limage-745.jpg Maybe, if I'm lucky, my chapter will get me one of these things they're only 29.50:D |

I am one of those teachers that dresses up in suits and dress pants 4 out of 5 days for work. I wear my Quill to work whenever I am dressed appropriately. Now that I have gone back to school and am a graduate student, I don't dress up so often. We are encouraged to dress professionally for the program, so I still end up in Quill attire 2-3 days out of the week. The other days I wear a recognition Quill, my lavaliere, or even a shirt with AxiD on it somewhere. I have never received negative feedback for showing my affiliation, but have occasionally answered polite questions. |
I volunteer, so I get to wear my pin at recruitment for area chapters, events, convention, etc. And of course, you can always wear your badge on NPC badge day and your Founders Day. One of my pledge sisters got married in November, and we wore our pins on our dresses :) |
I'm just curious...At my alma mater, the sororities always wore their badges on Greek Letter Day (once per week). The sisters wore letter sweatshirts or t-shirts with khakis or jeans, and they always had on their badges. From what I've read here, this would be frowned upon. Am I right? On Fridays, the sororities dresses up. I can see the badges then, but I'm curious about the Letter Day attire. LM |

We NEVER wore badge AND letters. Because letters were "casual" and the badge is only to be worn with business attire or better. And also, it was considered bad form to wear two types of letters anyway. Like you never wore letters with a sorority hat, or letters with lettered sweatpants. Or a lettered t-shirt under a lettered sweatshirt. |

I have no problem wearing my badge with "business casual" we do it at convention even. I have one that I wear as a pendant that's les dressy than my original one and I wear it all the time to work. As long as I'm not wearing jeans, I don't have a problem. AND, dressing casual and "looking your best" are not mutually exclusive. I dress casual at work every day, but I still look my best. Now, up here we are, in general, a much more casual society than other areas of the country........ |

badge I dress for teaching. I wear my badge almost every day. I am so proud to be an AOII :D . Silver |

We have orientation for the new students in my program today - I think I'll wear my badge! I'm so glad I saw this thread this morning. |
I wear it for formal events as well as sorority events. I wore it on my wedding day (descretely of course) and wear it to formal award ceremony/dinner/dance things that Intel puts on yearly (when my husband gets an award). But, I also try to stay active as an alum and do things with the chapter as often as possible. |
I haven't worn my badge since college...never really thought about it. I've been saving it in a special place to hopefully pass down to my daughter. I do wear an anchor charm to remind me of my sisters. |

Wear the Badge when you can! Our rules and regs say no patch pockets. Slacks and polo or dress shirt are fine! When I did not have enuff money to put in my pocket, I wore Jeans and a Sweater one time. Caught Hell! I just said screw it, I am going to get my Badge and wear it # 4 said if you are going back to Motel, tell Connie to give you mine! We Both wore our Badges proudly right or wrong! Not proper dress attire, but I did wear it proudly! To say, it seems that Young people do not wear the Letters or Badges on Campus!:( Hello, that is Advertising your beleif in Your Greek Org!:) |

I wear mine several times a week I have it on a pendant and I wear it with nice business casual. |
I haven't worn my in a long while :( I just bought a new one before I came over here too. But I don't have an alumnae group over here and no college stuff so I don't wear the badge. When I move back to the states I am going to join an alumnae group and will wear it w/ pride! |

I wear mine to work and anywhere else that I feel it would have been approitate to wear while in college. I work in a business casual office (no jeans) and my badge is more like a piece of jewerly. Since my name starts with an A most people think that it is my inital but if they ask about it I will tell them. My badge is set with pearl seeds and a diamond so it kind of sets the rules as to where and with what I can wear it. But I am also a girl that wears diamond ear rings with jeans. Go figure... |
My mom used to say about nice jewelry, "It's not doing anyone any good in your jewelry box." She wore all her nice stuff with whatever she felt like, and loved it. life's short. :) |
:( scrubs aren't badge attire so I never get to wear mine :( The last time I wore mine was to a funeral 2 weeks ago....I wish I could wear it more! I love my badge! |

I wear my badge to formal sorority events (meetings, etc.) and any other time where I'm dressing up and it would be appropriate. I wear my AOII signet ring daily. ETA--Ariesrising asked earlier about our thoughts on wearing badges with more casual attire. I have no problem wearing them with nice slacks or casual khaki skirts or such (NOT WITH PARTY OR CLUB WEAR, EVER!) as long as an appropriate top and shoes are worn. No jean shorts or short denim skirts, or workout gear. |

Badge into ring There is a special ring band that you can buy. You pin your badge onto and can wear it as a ring. I saw one when I was an active years ago. Now that i'm an alum I have not been able to find one anywhere. If anyone knows where I can buy one please let my know. I have search almost every store online that sells greek goods. Thanks http://www.albertson.edu/GammaPhi/Member1.gif |

panel ring Phi Mu has what they call a panel ring, which is the black enameled part of the badge only on a band. There is a yellow gold and a silver (which could be white gold, I'm not sure). I have one, which I wear when I look nice, but not something that I'd wear my badge on. I really like it. It gets more use than my badge because I only wear my badge when I'm really dressed up, whereas I wear my ring when I look nice (khakis, etc.) Deb Here's a link to the photo. I hope it works! http://www.phimu.org/store3/default.asp |

Do any of you Phi Mu's have the Diamond Quatrefoil ring sold in your Carnaton Collection? WOW! It's GORGEOUS!!! In response to the original question, I wear my Badge on NPC Badge Day, sometimes to church and to DZ functions. Also, last week I had high tea with three of my girlfriends (two Chi-Os and a Theta) and we all wore badge attire and badges :) |

As a Life Member, I wear that pin and no longer wear the service pin (as I feel the LM pin 'supersedes' it). I'll wear it on days I'm doing some with the fraternity, such as attending a meeting or event. I usually only bring out and wear the badge at more formal occasions, such as banquets or initiation ceremonies (when I'm also wearing a coat/tie. So unless I'm doing something involving the fraternity, I don't usually wear insignia. |
I wear my badge ONLY in badge attire. While in such attire, I have worn my badge to church, political shindigs/fundraisers, weddings, and funerals. On Founders' Day, I make sure to dress up no matter what I am doing that day. I just make sure to be in badge attire. I did wear mine at my wedding. (Since I have the ZTA badge with pearls and sapphires, it was my 'something blue'.) IMO, badges should only be worn when in proper attire. But, once again, that may just be the 'Southern belle' in me.;) |
Does anyone else think this is a regional/geographic thing? I wear my Theta badge to Fraternity events (dressy alumnae events, initiations, college chapter meetings, Convention, Founders Day, etc.). I don't think I have worn it to a non-Theta (or non-Greek) event since college. I don't work currently, but my two previous jobs were extremely casual - first at a high-tech company where if you wore anything other than jeans, your boss would ask where you were interviewing; and then in a cooking school. Don't think the badge would be appropriate or safe on my chef's jacket! I live in N. California, where Greek life just isn't widely considered. |
I think everyone's definition of "badge attire" is different. According to my New Member Guide, badge attire is defined as "when members are dressed nicely and are well groomed". That can vary from region to region. Wearing a polo shirt with a casual skirt may be considered "well groomed" in one part of the continent while in another, one has to be in a suit. Inappropriate clothing, according to the Guide is anything that is "ripped, worn or tattered". I personally wouldn't wear my badge with jeans, sweats, shorts, etc. |
I wear my pin when I'm attending a formal event or I'm on official business at a campus recruiting Seniors into the Alumni Association. |

2004 Badge Day Do all of the NPC members know about International Badge Day on March 1? Sounds like we'll be dressing up! From the NPC web site: 2004 Badge Day The twenty-six member organizations of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) are celebrating International Badge Day, an annual event during which sorority women everywhere honor their Greek affiliations by wearing their badge or letters. International Badge Day is celebrated on March 1, 2004. International Badge Day is co-sponsored by the National Panhellenic Conference and Burr, Patterson and Auld Company, Inc. |

I wear my badge most Monday nights. I try to attend the chapter meetings of the chapter I advise and as Ritual Advisor not wearing my badge would be a no-no! Also I wear it to work on Badge Day (always in March) but I think I will try to remember to wear it on our actual Founders' Day. Of course I will wear it to Founders' Day celebrations & Alumnae Panhellenics luncheons, etc. |
