Arizona State University 45: (Quota +1)

GeekyPenguin 09-04-2003 09:58 AM

updated with some more news :)

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-04-2003 10:58 AM

We got quota or quota plus at Arizona. I got the info from the alumna (AXiD, I think) on here, but forget what she said.

GeekyPenguin 09-07-2003 10:28 PM

*bump*

Do we know what chapters are rushing now? I know Gamma Omega starts this week and my girls are going to do awesome - we actually have lots of girls already interested, including some BWOC. :) Gamma is also currently rushing - and it seems like Kappa, Omicron, Beta Eta, Omega and some of the other Midwest chapters should be too.

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-07-2003 10:37 PM

Xi (U of ID) and Beta Sigma (WA State) just finished (but I haven't gotten a response from their PCD about results) Lambda (U of WA) starts next Sunday, Zeta Alpha (Eastern WA) should be starting soon and Alpha Lambda (Univ of BC) starts next weekend as well. Delta Eta (UC-Irvine) has a thread in the rush forum and I think it's another that starts next week.

My chapter (Gamma Epsilon) does deferred rush in the spring.

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-09-2003 02:46 PM

Xi (Univ of ID) - 26 new women (quota)
Beta Sigma (WA State) - 33 new women (quota)

GeekyPenguin 09-10-2003 03:47 PM

Gamma Omega (Wisconsin - Platteville) and Gamma Gamma (Wisconsin - Milwaukee) are rushing/getting ready for rush.

From what I've heard, things are going really well at Gamma Omega, which is just what we need there rgiht now. :)

California chapter recruitment dates

Here's what I could find for recruitment dates for almost all the California chapters. September should be a fun month of getting awesome new members in California!

Gamma Eta (CSU Long Beach) is from Sept. 12-17

Delta Chi (CSU Sacramento) is from Sept. 12-16

Alpha Iota (UCLA) is from Sept. 22-29

Epsilon Gamma (U. of San Diego) can't find any info.

Epsilon Kappa (CSU Chico) was Sept. 5-9 (any word?!)

Epsilon Nu (Chapman) can't find any info.

Zeta Theta (Pepperdine) is from Sept. 24-29

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-10-2003 08:23 PM

UC-Irvine (Delta Eta): September 26-29 and a GCer's rushing

GeekyPenguin 09-10-2003 10:00 PM

I am so excited for all the California rush threads to start - you know we are going to do well out there! :)

AAgammagirl 09-10-2003 11:56 PM

i was in the rush forum, getting all excited b/c i saw a thread about UC-Davis...and we don't have a chapter there!!!
i think that must be the only school in california that doesn't!!
lol.
yes, i have heard that we ROCK in CA.
good luck to all our chapters everywhere!!
2 more days til rush starts at Alpha Omega- London, ON.
i have heard 180 girls are going thru, there are 6 sororities on campus. this is a really great # of girls (it may seem like peanuts to other chapters though).
i can't wait. i have never been to a school that has so many girls rushing. they told me it was from 9am-6pm and i thought they were joking and...they aren't. wow. i am sure to learn to appreciate those chapters that have that long of a recruitment process.
i'll be sure to keep you updated!:D

Now all we need are some Gamma Phi NMs on GC! :D

My alma mater - Southern Cal -- got 53; quota was 55. They did two snap bids as soon as forma rush ended from what I hear...

Probably should put an asterisk by Southern Cal listing -- my friend who is chapter advisor said the bids were not really snap bids, they were COB because they were done a few days after rush officially ended -- I would hate for a Non Gamma Pi to read THIS THREAD AND HAVE A COW!

I will not! There will be no cows in our forum unless they come from me, since I am the only Wisconsin Gamma Phi in here. ;) They made quota, and that is all that matters to me! Plus I am sure all the girls are "cute" and "sweet" and "brilliant" so we should be a-ok. ;)

gphiangel624 09-12-2003 09:10 PM

Kathleen, you're so cute. I think we have a right to be biased in our own chapter's forum... but that's just me!

AAgammagirl, thanks for the compliments! Yes, we have some really strong chapters out here in California, and a lot of them, too! So I'm dying for some GC PNMs to be from California and I hope they're just lurking around before starting their threads! Probably won't happen, but I really, really hope there's at least 1 GC PNM going to UCR!

Mmmmm.... Real California Cheese

Sorry Kathleen, but I'll never go for that stuff from Wisconsin! It's all about the "happy cows" cheese!

ROTFLMAO

I never thought of it as "hippie" cheese... but that cracks me up...

GeekyPenguin 09-18-2003 12:00 AM

Bump with a new result! :)

Pref at Gamma Omega is tomorrow, I'm going back along with our PCD. :)

GeekyPenguin 09-19-2003 12:49 AM

Gamma Omega extended 8 bids tonight, so assuming all the ladies accept, we'd have a group of 9 (COB from last semester). I'm thrilled with all the girls they not and hope they choose to accept! :)

Also, the food at Platteville is so bad it made me sick, so now I am going to bed. :(

gphiangel624 09-24-2003 02:41 AM

Yay, rush starts two weeks from Friday! I know that's still a long time, but I'm excited to see it from the alum perspective! I've been on the PNM, active and recruitment counselor side, as well as all compiling all the old release figures for my old job, but now I get to see it from the alum side, too!

Just a side note, our Pres. and MEVP met a TON of girls at move-in on the 20th and it takes a lot to get the two of them excited about rush lately (such a difficult year for both). All I hear from friends is that the girls are (once again) talking all about Gamma Phi and how they want to rush! And we have 2 legacies coming through so far! I'm stoked...

Ok, had to get that out... I knew you guys would understand. :)

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-24-2003 05:35 PM

Good Luck!

kateshort 09-26-2003 07:32 PM

Hi, Ladies! I was cruising Valpo's GPhiB chapter webpage the other day, and they listed 5 new members from informal fall recruitment.

Congrats!

chantillylace55 09-27-2003 09:10 PM

USD has deferred recruitment in the spring... someone on here said something about not finding info on it.... SDSUs rush just ended and i think we did really really well there... i heard it was the first time they had 100% retention after the first day and i was to say that they had over 85% retention the second day... anyway i heard they had an AMAZING rush and im sure they made quota... ill figure out the exect numbers and post them..
xoxo chantillylace

RiverShell 09-29-2003 04:13 PM

Hey girls!
I'm a GphiB at UC Santa Cruz and our rush starts today! We're planning to take 22 NMs.

You east-coast girls should come check out our Californian chapters! They are great and because we have so many, it makes for the best road trips!

Love ya all, Shannon

NeonPi 09-29-2003 06:08 PM

U of Toronto

Just crashing with some great news...

Your U of Toronto (Alpha Alpha) chapter did a great job this year, getting quota of 7 last Monday (all groups made quota, with 3 groups getting plus 1).

Also kudos to Bernadette Mesina (AA), who is the Panhellenic President! She is a pleasure to work with!

Cheers!
Shala Berry
Panhellenic Adviser
U of Toronto

gphiangel624 09-29-2003 09:15 PM

So less than 2 weeks until recruitment starts at UCR! I'm stoked because my girls are looking great- they're out on campus and around the community all the time, sporting letters and shirts, there were a TON of them at the Welcome Week block party (I think only 3 of six chapters had booths, all were next to each other, and there were a lot of PNMs around that area), and the freshman boys have been telling my friends who are RAs/fraternity boys/GDIs that Gamma Phi is the chapter all the freshman girls are talking about... So I'm stoked for rush to start so I can see it again from another angle!

Sorry, just got a little excited there! :-)

AAgammagirl 10-03-2003 09:22 AM

hey everyone-
i have some Canadian FR news to report.
UWO (Alpha Omega)- 11
University of Toronto (Alpha Alpha)- 7 (quota)
i haven't heard how UBC did (and i think they're done now) or McGill (not sure when FR is for them).
i'm so glad to hear that all of our chapters are doing well!!
:D

GeekyPenguin 10-03-2003 09:36 AM

Thanks for the Canadian results! I'm still waiting to hear on the UW-Milwaukee and UW-Oshkosh chapters.

AAgammagirl 10-10-2003 12:06 AM

hey ladies-
UBC got 17 from FR (quota was 18)
i still haven't heard about Alpha Tau- McGill Univ.- Montreal, Quebec.
also, can you change Western Ontario to London, Ontario. People may better understand where the chapter is then.
oh- what do you guys think about the possible (but very unlikely) expansion at Ole Miss?
Do we only do 1 expansion/year? is that why we wouldn't go there? (of course b/c of the $$ too).
any other results? i wonder how the Beta chapter did? (U of Mich- Ann Arbor)

SmartBlondeGPhB 10-10-2003 01:15 AM

It sounds like Ole Miss is highly unlikey to be expanding, but money might be an issue for us expanding there. The amount of local alumnae support would be another. At a school like Ole Miss which is SO heaped in southern Greek tradition, we would definitely have our work cut out for us and it would be an uphill battle from day one.

As far as I know there is not any rule that says only one expansion per year. It should all just depend on the school in question.

Right - expanding at two Wisconsin state schools would be easy. Expanding in Texas and South Carolina at the same time would not be. I know "back in the day" when we chartered, there were several chapters that chartered within a year of each other.

gphiangel624 10-12-2003 11:14 PM

FINALLY- RECRUITMENT STARTS!

Hey guys!

Recruitment has finally started at UC Riverside. Here's the info as of today (sorry I haven't posted earlier, but my home computer is down so I'm using my best friend's):

6 sororities:
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Alpha Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Sigma Kappa

Total is 70, most chapters are around 40-50 right now.

Recruitment Schedule:
Open House- Saturday, Oct.11 (PNMs go to 6 houses)
Philanthropy Day- Sunday, Oct.12 (PNMs go to max of 4 houses)
Preference Night- Monday, Oct. 13 (PNMs go to max of 2 houses)
Bid Day- Tuesday, Oct.14

Tentatively, quota is 29. Panhellenic hasn't decided if that's definite yet, but it will be in the high-20s. 192 PNMs applied for rush, about 10 have dropped so far.

On a chapter note, the Gamma Phis look awesome! Our girls have been working so hard and the rooms have looked amazing for both Open House and Phil. Day so far! Out of about 150 invites, we had arund 140 girls visit the houses today (about 5-6 had church-related stuff and couldn't make it today, will probably go to Pref).

I'll let you guys know how things go!

Carol

GeekyPenguin 10-13-2003 12:06 AM

Good luck to your chapter, Carol! Are you helping out with recruitment?

Also, on a slight tangent - the other day I was watching the Travel Channel and they went to Riverside and all I could think of was your cheer "I'm a little Gamma Phi, Delta Lambda, Riverside!"

gphiangel624 10-14-2003 01:29 AM

Kathleen, why on earth would the travel channel want to go to Riverside?! jk Funny that you thought of that though...

Yeah, I'm helping with recruitment and it's a lot of fun. Tonight was Pref Night and we had quite a bit of alum support, so it was nice. We had a 68% return rate for Pref night (the usual), and about 20 girls in each party (there are 3 parties, but the PNMs only go to two... we do it because of fire hazard reasons). A lot of the PNMs left with teary eyes and they were extremely touched with the ceremony which went well in each party. One girl told her recruitment counselors that she messed up on her ranking card this morning and didn't mean to regret Gamma Phi, so she was in tears outside during the party and her best friend was inside the party, bawling as well. I guess she missed one of her parties because of it, but is most likely not going to sign a pref card at all in case we COB.

Quota has been set at 23 as of tonight, but who knows if they'll change it again. They always do stuff like that. My former boss is the "Greek advisor" and asked me tonight if I'd like to run recruitment next year. I told him I'd think about it- that's a huge responsibility.

Wish the girls luck! Bid Day is tomorrow!

Carol

gphiangel624 10-14-2003 03:48 AM

Just to add, I found out the results at the University of California, Irvine tonight (if you'd like to post them Kathleen!).

The Delta Eta chapter took 29 new members, and quota was 29. Yay- we did it again!
