Rappers Nelly, Lil' Kim Win at Source Awards
Tue Oct 14, 3:11 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo! MIAMI (Reuters) - Legendary St. Louis rapper Nelly was named male solo artist of the year on Monday night at Hip-Hop's annual gala, The Source Awards 2003, while the diminutive diva, Lil' Kim, took top solo honors in the female category. Lil' Jon and the East Side Boyz were named best group of the year in a music genre that grew up in the urban streets of the United States but now regularly heads the U.S. billboards Top Ten and embraces millions of fans around the world. Fighting an image of drive-by shootings and gang warfare, Hip-Hop has moved on from pure music to become a multibillion-dollar industry dictating fashion trends and street cred. The Album of the Year award, and Single of the Year award for a male solo artist, were handed down for "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," and "In Da Club," by controversial rapper 50 Cent, a newcomer to mainstream success but a veteran of street shootings and stabbings. The Source Awards, launched in 1991 by Hip-Hop music magazine The Source, began behind schedule and under tight security in downtown Miami. Not all of the 22 award categories were announced before the show the show ended early on Tuesday. It was taped to be broadcast next month. The winners announced were as follows: Artist of the Year -- Male Solo -- Nelly Artist of the Year -- Female Solo -- Lil' Kim Artist of the Year -- Group -- Lil' Jon and the East Side Boyz Album of the Year -- 50 Cent -- "Get Rich or Die Tryin"' (Label: Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) Single of the Year -- Male Solo Artist -- 50 Cent -- "In Da Club" (Producer: Dr Dre) Single of the Year -- Group -- Clipse -- "Grindin"' (Producer: Neptunes) Single of the Year -- Collaboration (Two or more artists on single track) -- Bone Crusher feat, TI and Killer Mike -- "Neva Scared" (Producer: A. Johnson) R&B/Rap Collaboration of the Year -- "Thug Lovin"' -- Ja Rule feat, Bobby Brown (news) (Producer: C-Santana) Video of the Year -- "I Don't Give a #%!" -- Lil' Jon and the East Side Boyz feat, Mystikal & Krayzie Bone (Director: Gil Green) Producer of the Year -- The Neptunes Dancehall-Reggae Album of the Year -- Sean Paul -- "Dutty Rock" (Label: VP/Atlantic) International Album of the Year -- Kaos -- "Exit" (Label: Astralworks) Canada Best Acting in a Movie by a Rapper -- Cam'Ron -- "Paid in Full" (Character Rico) Categories that were not immediately announced included Single of the Year for a Female Solo Artist, R&B Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year and Live Performer of the Year. |

The second picture looks like Ice Cube and his Westside Connection (Mack-10 and W.C.). My only question is WHO is the chick in the last pic? Is that Lil' Mo? |
Lawd those outfits are ugly!
Just because it was expensive DOESN't mean it's elegant or classy. Neeeeeeeeeew ass money rappers should learn this! |
I see that Benzino has managed to nominate himself once again:rolleyes:
|
Some of those pictures look a hot mess.
|
Did anyone watch it last night?
I missed it but all the radio shoes are talking about it. I heard Pink Pimp suits, big guns and drug transactins on stage.

HC Bonecrusher and this other big guy had on NO SHIRTS?!? :o  HC I could see butt crack? HC NOT cute? HC it looked like they were doing a dance that I called the fat man stomp? HC at the end there were 2 girls kissing on stage, a la Madonna and Britney? HC they took it to a DIFFERENT level, ? HC at the end there were too many pimps on stage including one in a plaid pimp suit? HC Farnsworth J. Bentley was on stage singing "Get Low"? |
My comments on the Source Awards:
LisaRaye: OK now...there comes a time in our lives when we must realize that we are over 33 years of age and we can no longer roll with our wanna-be gangsta princess ways. LisaRaye needs to comprehend this concept. She's too dang old to be standing on stage...lookin' like she's auditioning for one of her co-host Treach's gangsta porn videos. Juelz and Santana's "Dip Set" performance: I never really heard the track before, but thought it had a good beat and moved the crowd. I was trippin' of the big gun that was brought on stage and the other guy taking it from the guy who was holding it and pointing it out at the audience. Lil Kim: She won over Missy Elliot....WTF. She still looks a mess. Nelly: NOT IMPRESSED with the chicks dancing with towels. Then...they took them towels off and had the AUDACITY to be wearing some nasty pink & green outfits. Ewwwww. I took that personally. Then, of course, my husband turned to me and says..."look - are those your sorors up there dancing".....I THINK NOT. |

Prayerful, did you smack your husbandperson upside his head for asking you if those women were your sisters??? And yes, LisaRaye is too darn old to be looking like that. She is definitely trying to hold on to her Ghetto Card. |
I saw it. I was CTFU the WHOLE dayum time.
When the "Dip Set" did their thing..."Habibi got it.." LOL But did they really have to do the whole "transaction" thing on stage? Trina looked a mess. And "Da Band"...they were alright. I always wonder though if Sara ever gets pissed at her role. All she does now is strut around and sing the hook. :( However I was crunk when the DUUURRTY SOUTH got up on stage and did their thing...I was not surprised to see the stage grow from 8 to 800 :p One thing though. Bonecrusher DO NOT take off your shirt anymore!! It's gross!! And those two strippers kissin each other...ugh! |

Those pictures . . . those people . . . it looks like a modern day minstrel show. http://www.kurts-smilies.de/nono2.gif

I must admit I was down right embarrassed at the ways of some of our black people. Why was Trick on stage showing off his Ankle bracelet like it's the hot new thing?
Why does Cam'Ron rocked the pink sooooooo hard? Don't get me wrong pink is a beautful color, but dang man...... Was it just me or were the performances like extra short? I'm from the south and I love dirty south music, so of course my favorite part of the show was the last performance besides them nasty strippers on stage kissing.. Oh one more question.....Has anyone noticed that one of the guys from Ying Yan twins has a deformed hand or are my eyes just playing tricks on me? |
Quote:
Your eyes are not playing tricks on you...his hand is deformed. When they first hit the scene he would always hold a towel (or something). |
WOW
I tried really hard to watch it, but I couldn't watch the whole thing. Some of them had nevvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvver worked w/ a telepromter before. During the part I did see, someone came up to collect an "award" and dropped his flask and picks it up and looks at it like it's his long lost twin. Whatever happened to network censors? I know it's viacom, but come on!
|
Quote:
Oh okay. I guess I never noticed that he always had a towel in his hand when they first came on the scence. I guess he is now comfortabe with showing it off. |
Is Jaheim REALLLLLLYYYYYYYY GAY?
:o  |

TTT because i saw this tonight on BET.
that dirty south "performance" almost made me ashamed to be southern born and bred. but, i'm TEXAS baby!! for that reason, i was only disgusted and not ashamed of bone crusher and his fat friend's naked bellies. ugh!!! they looked like they were 3 years pregnant!!!! * oh, and not only is there a deformed hand in ying yang, but one of them has a short leg or something too. he doesn't walk straight because of it. * you know, if camron stopped with the rap thing (since he really aint that good at it anyway) he could be a really nice model for, say, ralph lauren or something. ja rule's performance was kind of sad. but, i'm rooting for him though. i like the new song with r. kelly. i'm not even going to touch the strippers kissing thing... except to say  |
