Socials/Exchanges

Alrighty, I don't think that we have a socials thread yet... What kind of socials does your chapter have? Which ones do you like best?

We just had a Graffitti Party with Lambda Theta Phi last night. We had a blast!!! We also played "Anything for Money." Basically we just paired one brother with one sister, and they had to work as a team to make as much money as possible. There are some really not so "pc" things that people do for money!

Another social we had was Mai Tai (my tie) with Sigma Alpha Epsilon. It was fun, but could have been better. There was about 40 brothers from like 3 different schools... And like 10 sisters! Most of the brothers kicked it outside, not even trying to participate in the activities. I think with a lil bit more planning, and more attendance on our part, it would have been a lot better!

Tell me what's worked for you...

LITP~Beth :D

MooseGirl 06-08-2002 09:27 PM

our socials have been dying out....we had a graffitti party 2 yrs ago (or at least what we call it.....everyone takes turns writing messages on each others shirts)

we have "around the world" with sigma Chi....every room features different theme (starting with bon voyage) with diff beverages and food and games of course.

But that's about it really, other than just plain old socials...

So what do you do at the Mai Tai social/ our girls are always looking for ideas :)

SapphireSphinx9 06-08-2002 11:31 PM

At the Mai Tai, we had all the guys bring a tie. We cut the ties in half and put one half in one bag, and the other in another bag. The everyone picks a tie... Girls from one bag, guys from another. And then you pair off. We did quirky lil games like egg toss and that pass the orange game.

I've heard of some parties where they don't cut up the tie. What they do there, is the girl picks a tie, and the guy who's tie it is, is her partner. They're then tied together for the whole night... Meaning they have to do everything together. (donno about this one... might have to try it out to see how it works...)

But that's basically it. Just another way to pair up the peeps.

Our graffitti party was the white tee shirts with markers type, that you were talking about. It was so much fun!

Anyways, hope that helped you out.

Mixers...

My favorite is Eat Me, Lay me....

Every girl gets a candy necklace, and every guy gets a lay. The guys eat the candy and the last guy to eat your last peice of candy, lays you... It's fun to have guys nibbling on your neck.

There's bondage, where you get tied to a guy, and the last couple to break up gets a prize.

Here's some others:
80's
Beach
Screwed
Pimp and Ho
Pajama Exchange

I can't think of any more right now..... if I do, i'll post more....

Beth's post reminded me of one...

Donuts and Daiquiris....

The morning of our homecoming parade, we go somewhere (usually the frat. we do the float with) and eat donuts and drink daiquiris....

Its a lot of fun... if the alcohol gets there on time, right Ali!!;) ;) ;)

mixer/exchange ideas

We have some exchanges coming up and I'm looking for some new ideas for themes or things to do. :) We've done things like, going to Baseball games, white trash wedding, graffiti, oscars night, 80s Hair Bands, Kidnap n' Ransom, and we're going to try this new idea... Tacos and Tequila that I've heard about... it just sounds fun ;) What does everyone else do?

Hey MSPhiSig,

I think I spoke to one of your sisters the other day via IM on AOL. anyway, besides going to baseball games have you thought of participating in a softball game. We just had a softball game and barbecue with one of the fraternities on campus. Each team was co-ed to even them out. The guys provided the meat and barbecued and the women provided all the other food. I really enjoyed myself with this social and hope the chapter will do more soon.

Hey, Greek 101 is now doing screenprinting with glow in the dark ink. I was thinking something like...

So Much for the After-Glow

(but is it too trashy... I was thinking of it as our theme for divisional... or something glowing for divisional so if you have any thoughts on that...)

i'm currently pushing for us to do a luau
we have tons of beach stuff leftover from our 'come, swim with the dolphins' theme from rush

we did a playaz ball(or thug love) mixer with TKE

Hi

For the grab a date and crush party do you have to register those or are those just considered non-registered functions? Because I thougt the grab a date mixer would be cool but I'm not sure if we could have one at my school without registering, but how can you register something where you don't know who your dates would be? See what we have to go through at my school

Annice, I don't know what you mean by registered or non-registered... Can you explain that one???

Thanks!

annice22 01-23-2003 08:40 PM

Hi Sapphirespinx

A register mixer is when you turn in paper work stating the time, place, and with whom the mixer is with. We also have to turn in a guest list. A non-registered mixer is when you have a mixer with with out registering it with IFC.

We have to register our mixers a week in advance. Which is a pain sometimes.

Valentine's social

We're having a Valentine's Day social with a fraternity we don't know all that well (I know them, but most of my sisters had their first introduction to them less than a week ago due to some hard work by myself and another sister). Problem is, we're not really sure what we should do. We're thinking of a pot luck (they claim they can cook. I have yet to see any evidence of this. Their fridge is a notorious haven for uneaten Kraft Dinner). Does anyone have any ideas for games that I can suggest to our social (she asked me for suggestions on this.)
If you could give details, that'd be great...we don't have a big greek system so sometimes when I read suggestions for activities I 'm kind of like, "um....what is that, exactly......?" PM me if it gets too long for a post....
Thanks guys!

Jadey28 02-03-2003 06:53 AM

Remember the MTV gameshow Singled Out? That would be a cute game to play at a Valentine social. Or the Dating Game or anything along those lines. Anything that allows your sisters to get to know the boys should go over just fine. I can't think of anything else, but I will post if I do. Good luck :)

White_Chocolate 02-03-2003 10:04 AM

You could always do a Crush Dance
You let the guys do a scavenger hunt to figure out which girl is their 'date' for the evening
The scavenger hunt could apply for the girls as well

PhiSigStrawbery 05-11-2003 09:28 PM

Social Themes

I am one of my chapter's social chairs and I am going to be doing a casino theme with one of the fraternities on my campus...has anyone used this theme before and do they have any suggestions for it? Thank you.:D

White_Chocolate 05-12-2003 05:31 PM

give us some idea of what you want to happen
do you want decorations?
do you want actual games?
or do you just want to do a Vegas theme?
what is the plan and i can try to help?

PhiSigStrawbery 05-15-2003 02:37 PM

I kind of want a vegas theme...I want decorations and game ideas...like poker, blackjack, but I am not a big gambler so I dunno of any other fun games (people love slots, but those cost a lot of money so we wont be able to get that)...what other games don't cost much money, I'm gonna give this budget $75 total with food (chips and drinks). EVERYTHING! lol

White_Chocolate 05-15-2003 04:07 PM

sounds like you got a good plan
are you having someone dress up and walk around with 'drinks'
are you designating dealers?
are you giving out those plastic chips?

PhiSigStrawbery 05-15-2003 11:59 PM

Casino Night

I haven't thought of having people give out drinks...but I am having dealers and plastic chips.

White_Chocolate 05-16-2003 08:54 AM

well, you don't have to go all out
are you giving out prizes?

PhiSigStrawbery 05-17-2003 01:35 AM

i think so or the top two people who get the most amount of points from the winnings they have will recieve a cool prize

PhiSigStrawbery 08-27-2003 11:10 PM

Social Themes

I am trying to think of cute and unique social ideas to do...one fraternity wants to do a Halloween social with nuts and bolts being our ice breaker, which is fine...but I dunno what else to do...another fraternity we are having a Casino theme social I thought about where we will play poker, blackjack, etc., and another we are having a Sports theme social where we will pair up our sororoity and fraternity together and plit it fairlt in half, same amount of boys and girls on each team and play like touch football or flag, and basketball, volleyball...But, we have 4 other fraternities...no idea what to do with them...help!!!

Jadey28 08-28-2003 02:34 AM

See if you can do a search on this topic over all the boards. There are some really good ideas, especially on the Social Board (under the general forum). My favorite social that I attended was the Superhero social where you dressed as your favorite superhero. It was fun!

White_Chocolate 08-28-2003 10:37 AM

for the love of macaroni and cheese, please don't do the 'thug' or 'ghetto' social

kristiepss 08-31-2003 07:03 PM

Themes in the past

The cutest social we had was the pajama themed social. All the girls dressed up in comfy pajama pants, tank tops, and slippers (and a few even brought teddies) and the guys were in sweats and shirts. It was a cool idea, because we didn't have to worry about being all dressed up.:)

Jadey28 09-04-2003 03:27 PM

Tonight, we're having a Toga Party! I know, it's so typical, but I know we're going to have a blast! (When I say "we" I am referring to the chapter I advise and my boyfriend's fraternity). I bought all types of stuff to decorate my toga. Vine-like things and grapes...ohh, it's going to be fun!!!! :D

SapphireSphinx9 10-14-2003 03:05 AM

Socials and exchanges???

Ok, so I know I've asked someone this question before... But I don't remember the answer. :p

What's the difference between socials and exchanges??? Are they the same, just have two different names??? Yeah, just kinda confused about that.

I have a question, how did the toga party go? We are thinking of having one with a fraternaty at our campus so i was just wondering if you had any tips or ideas. Can you get togas already made?

The toga party went really well. You can purchase pre-made togas (basically Halloween costumes), but it's so much easier to make your own. You just wrap a flat sheet around you like you would a towel when you get out of the shower. Pin it at the intersecting spot and toss the remainder over your shoulder. I cut my sheet in half so it would fit me. (I used a twin sheet). Then I got vine-like stuff from the craft store, made a headpiece and wrapped some up my leg so I looked like a Greek Goddess! There also was a lot of participation at this social, so I think it's a great idea!

Oh, and colored or themed sheets are much more interesting than boring white sheets.

whit_co 10-24-2003 10:35 PM

the pikes at our school always throw a toga party. they have always been a blast. when we made our togas we did it as a sisterhood event the week before, and everyone came up with different themed togas, one was dorthy, someone had a school girl toga, i made a 70's toga. but instead of using sheets we went to walmart and bought material. it was really fun!!

Exchanges are only with the members in the same chapter. So the Iota Gammas recently had an exchange with the brothers of Phi Delta Theta from the UCI chapter. Btw, we all went out to Dave & Buster's for a late lunch/early dinner and then played video games afterwards. We had a nice turn out. I can't wait to see the pictures.

Socials can be for any Phi Sig with another Greek organization. Something like that..hehe.

Could you give us some ideas as to what you normally do so we don't give you all teh same old advice?

phi sig angel 04-12-2004 02:57 PM

Hi Jenny,
Our big annual social is done at Halloween time. We usually do it with the same fraternity, kind of a tradition. It is called Heaven and Hell. We usually do it in a two story house so the girls can decorate the top as heaven and the boys can decorate the bottom as hell. Each organization provides food, beverages, and decorations for their room. It is pretty fun. Plus, it's a costume party, so you have built-in conversation.

I know this was already mentioned for sunshine, but it always lifts up our girls spirits. We give each member a paper with all the ladies names on it, and they have to write something nice about that person. We try to make it non-superficial by saying you can't use words such as nice, cute, ext. you have to really think about what this person offers as a sister and let her know that you appreciate her.

Hope this helps some.

Hugs,
Suzanne

Mixers

So, I am on the social committee here at Gannon, and we were looking for ideas for mixers with other fraternities (sororities)....

They don't have to be party ideas... they could be, but non-alcoholic ones like a philanthropy day have been suggested

annice22 02-08-2005 10:49 AM

Thetagammachica check out the social forum, there are tons of questions and ideas there.

Here's a few ideas since the superbowl is over you can have a sports theme mixer, a Valentine Day Dance party for seniors, toy drive for children in hospitals or less fortunate children.

Don't forget to check out the social forum.
