Anyone getting the Lord of the Rings, The TWo Towers Tonight?

Please do not call me a nerd, but I am really excited about the Two Towers coming out on DVD tonight! I am a fan of the Tolkein books, and love his other literature as well. I know that it isn't the coolest thing to talk about at the house, but I was hoping their were some other fans out there.

Lady Pi Phi 08-25-2003 04:14 PM

I totally forgot that was coming out today. I better go and get tonight. I've been looking forward to this since the movie was out in theatres.

I don't think you're a nerd, and if you are I guess I am one too. :D

I haven't read the books yet. I just started reading The Hobbit. But I absolutely love the movies, and I can't wait till Return of The King.

FarFromHome 08-25-2003 04:16 PM

I think it comes out omorrow guys... Unless you mean midnight? I guess there are places to buy it at midnight if they stay open. I am reading the books too. Read the Hobbit, reading the first volume (Fellowship...) right now. I am excited.

Lady Pi Phi 08-25-2003 04:53 PM

Oh you're right, it is tomorrow. Some places might have it for sale at midnight, but I haven't heard about any.

MeLikey 08-25-2003 07:41 PM

Thanks for reminding me! I'm going to get it, I love Gollum!

AZ-AlphaXi 08-25-2003 07:50 PM

I reserved and paid for a copy for my husband's birthday which was in JUNE. I expect he'll be at the store first thing tomorrow to pick it up.

UGAnchora 08-25-2003 11:01 PM

My roomie is going to Walmart at mid night! you should see our room...she loves Frodo/Elijah Wood while I'm all about Orlando Bloom. She has a ton of posters all over the place...she saw "Fellowship..." 19 TIMES IN THE THEATRE! ANd Owns the regular DVD of it and Extended version. Crazy times.

TechAPhi 08-26-2003 04:49 AM

Is it ok to admit that I -- and some friends -- stood in line until midnight to buy The Two Towers?

:)

Edited to change HTML to vB code

browncat 08-26-2003 01:52 PM

If you were scared to admit that, check this out...

I had the DVD pre-ordered, it is currently in the mail on the way to my house, it will most likely get here today, YET I still went out and bought it last night at midnight. Waste of money???? NO, b/c I will give the other as a gift to a cousn or something @ X-Mas. I will also buy the Extended Edition when it comes out in November. Did you all see the trailer for ROTK? The Behind-the-Scenes footage was great. It is so funny to see Pippen, Merry, Frodo, Sam and the rest out of character.

TechAPhi 08-26-2003 02:04 PM

LotR rules!

(Giggling @ browncat)

I love the books and movies so much that I can understand it!

Re: RotK. I didn't watch the previews for RotK yet. I am not sure I want to -- I think I want to be surprised (this may all change when my resolve wears down and my curiosity gets the best of me. My resolve is already breaking down...)

I did see the previews for the extended release. I was happy to see that they were putting in Faramir's encounter with Boromir in the boat. And the Ent draughts! And Sam and Frodo's scaling of the sheer cliffs on Emyn Muil! The extended release is going to be AWESOME!

TechAPhi 08-26-2003 02:11 PM

Also on the subject of RotK. I am desperately awaiting the turret scene -- I am so afraid they are going to mess it up! I think it is one of the most beautiful scenes ever written.

DeltaSig 08-26-2003 03:22 PM

Got it.

Just got the DVD ready to go home pop it in and get me some popcorn to go with that flick. Excited if you can't tell.

Lady Pi Phi 08-26-2003 06:22 PM

I bought the DVD this afternoon and I just finished watching it. Great movie. I am so excited for Return of The King.

Schmeer 08-27-2003 11:39 AM

I bought mine first thing yesterday...OMG so great..and yes browncat it was funny to see them all as their normal selves. Obviously, watched the movie and loved it of course. BUT the ROTK preview and the EE preview gave me goosebumps....and seeing them made me realize that I must a) by the EE and b) go to the theaters for the special release of the EEs and watch them on the big screen for the first time!

White_Chocolate 08-27-2003 12:07 PM

personally, this trilogy is up there with being one of the greatest movies ever

i loved the ents scene. . .they were so cute.. .and when they talked aobut going to Isengarde to wreak havoc and not caring if they died, i started crying AGAIN. . .

boy started making fun of me and saying 'chill, it's just some trees' (yes, we're talking again)
to me, it's so much more than that especially when i drive past forests that they cut down to make room for housing developments. . .
i get really sensitive and want to chain myself to a tree

Lady Pi Phi 08-27-2003 05:10 PM

I just watched the preview of Return of The King. I can't wait till it comes out. The Lord of the Rings is fast becoming my favourite movie(s) of all time.

ImDaChamp 08-27-2003 11:11 PM

yah...i went to walmart at 12:01am to pick it up so i can be one of the first people around...

:p

rotk is gonna be bad ass

lovelyivy84 08-28-2003 02:14 AM

I ended up buying the DVDs for the regular version and the extended version last time out.

This time I am just waiting for the extended DVD. I know I'll be buying it anyway.

I thought the Ents were the weakest part of the movie personally. Davey and Goliath anyone? I don't know that it could have been done any other way, but it just stuck out like a sore thumb from the rest of the unbelievably visually stimulating film.

I saw int he paper that they are going to have double features showing BOTH extended versions before the release of RotK later this year. That is damn near 8 hours of movie, and while yes I personally would sit through it ALL, I don't know if I believe the theatres will do it...

They just better let me bring my chinese food in, that's all I'm sayin....

New Line Cinema announced it will re-release extended versions of the first two Lord of the Rings movies worldwide just two weeks before the Dec. 17 release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Variety reports the studio plans to release the 208-minute long Fellowship of the Ring Dec. 5 on 100-150 screens in the top 10 U.S. markets, with one cinema in other cities showing the special extended editions. The 214-minute long The Two Towers, meanwhile, will unspool in theaters the week of Dec. 12, leading up to a worldwide daylong marathon Dec. 16, during which all three films will be shown back-to-back. Exhibitor guidelines call for a 3 p.m. showing of Fellowship, followed by a 7 p.m. screening of Two Towers and then an 11 p.m. screening of Return of the King which will carry over into Dec. 17 -- the day of its global release. Advanced ticket sales are scheduled to begin in late September or early October on exhibitor Web sites and movie ticketing sites.

i am so there :)

TechAPhi 08-28-2003 03:41 AM

I broke down and watched the Return of the King preview. I was so happy to see some of the little bits from the book that they could easily have left out (like Pippen's conversation with Gandalf at the window of their room in Minas Tirith).

I can't wait!

AlphaXi4983 08-30-2003 12:08 AM

i was gonna go get it at midnight, but the best buy by me didnt do the midnight thing. but my mommy is super sweet and went up to target at like 7:30am and got it for me :) she did the same thing when harry potter 5 came out... im a nerd, i know...

browncat 09-08-2003 01:57 PM

I knew you would break down!!! It is okay though, the anticipation is what makes it fun. I agree, I think the scene w/ the hobbits scaling the cliff is unbelievable. I am very excited about the EE. I am getting the collectors edition EE, not for the statues or anything, but just because it seems like I might as well get the display box and everything.

I used to go to this theater that would let you bring ANY food you wanted into the theater. You could show up with a roasted turkey and they would let you bring it in!! It closed though, unfortunately. That is where I would like to see the theater EE's!!

Cloud9 09-08-2003 03:04 PM

You.

Don't.

Under-

STAAAAAAAAND my obsession with LOTR!!! Yes, like a drug addict hungers for sweet, sweet crack, I am haunted by an insatiable hunger for all that is Frodo! Alas, I am ass poor right now, but soon(oh yes, sooon) I shall obtain a copy of the Twin Towers DVD. And when that triple release comes out, you best believe I will be setting aside my day to worship at the local Tolkien Temple(also known as Loews Cineplex)

Can I just say though, for my fellow closet LOTR dorks(I know you're out there, don't lie!), I dunno HOW the hell they are going to fit everything that happens in the last book in this movie, there's a whole bunch of shit that goes down! In the last movie they ended pretty early, there's some major things that were still left! Anyways, I'm soooooo excited for Return of the King, what I've been hearing is that this last movie will blow the other two away! Ok, I have to pause my gushing, I'm going to give myself a stroke, hahaha

lovelyivy84 09-08-2003 04:15 PM

By all means gush!

I love hearing about people who actually read books. Too many of us give it up as soon as we leave college, and thus have nothing more interesting than our favorite sports team to discuss.

I am determined to hold out for the Two Towers extended DVD.

awesome  . i think the movies are some of the greatests ive ever seen. ive read all three books and yer right about alot left to fit in. i think the movie is going to be around 3.5 hours.

since you are strapped for cash, i'd suggest you WAIT to buy the two towers extra edition DVD being released in november. it's about 25 bucks and it's going to have an extra 40 minutes of MOVIE footage...haha it's awesome and i cant wait for it.

in the EE dvd, they have a scene with boromir on top of a building shouting "this city has been reclaimed for gondor"...man it was hot.

Schmeer 09-09-2003 11:58 AM

you have another LOTR fan here....gugh away

though seriously...how many times have you guys watched The Two Towers dvd already.....I have watched it 5 count that FIVE times...and i love it still.

krazy 09-11-2003 05:42 PM

I lost count...

You may have seen it fives times, but I know I have watched it more than that, counting the 3 times I went to the theater. I am soo excited for the Gift set to come out in November. Not only for all the extra footage and added scenes, but also for the Gollum disc and statue that we will get. I love Gollum!!! He is kind of creepy at the same time though. They are just great movies.

That's me too. My kids gave the extended version of FotR for Christmas last year, and I imagine I'll get the exended version of TT this year.

Meanwhile, there's Blockbuster.

krazy 09-16-2003 02:43 PM

TRUE...

But here is what I finally realized. It costs like $4.95 each time it is rented at Blockbuster, not to mention the $2.99 late fee that always seems to be added to my movies. So, I just buy the movies that I know I will like, b/c they are offered so much cheaper these days. I got my Two Towers for like $9.00. I will get my Extended for like $9 or $10 I bet. It is just worth it to me.

Schmeer 09-24-2003 02:00 PM

THere is also a rebate if you have bought the first one that you get with the second one!!

its like 5 bucks..but still

and., btw i have now seen it 8 times

krazy 09-26-2003 04:23 PM

wanted you to know...

If you get the gift set w/ the gollum statue, it is a $10 rebate. I saw this on another site. I believe it is legit. Time to go watch it again.......LOL.

Schmeer 10-02-2003 03:48 PM

You mean the gift set with this statue:

TigerLilly 10-02-2003 04:30 PM

I am such the LOTR addict. I first read the books when I was about 10, and have read them over and over so many times...it's my favorite book! (I read books over and over again, I'm weird like that.) Love the movies too, but I'm a bit of a purist and get mad when things have been changed to be different from in the books.
I'm in Germany for the year, and I'll still be going to see ROTK as soon as it comes out -- the local theater is showing all three back-to-back. I'm assuming it'll be in English with subtitles...in German would be interesting, though.
Ooooh, getting excited! Can't wait!

Imthachamp 10-02-2003 05:13 PM

the statues are awesome. i got the two with the FOTR...it costs about 70 bucks though :(
