Zta@usf

I hope to be part of ZTA's colonization at USF in Tampa. I received an email a couple weeks ago stating that reps will be on campus the first week of September for any other USF women that are interested. The email said they would be giving information out about events and even though they didn't state were to find the reps on campus, they did say it would not be hard to spot them. I'm very excited and I can't wait til ZTA gets here!

AUDeltaGam 08-23-2003 08:21 PM

I was a part of the Delta Gamma colony at my school and it was one of the best experiences ever! You would get to be a part of making traditons that will last for years! If you have any questions, let me know!!

usfBROOKEusf 08-23-2003 08:33 PM

That is the very reason why I am holding out for ZTA. I think it is so exciting to be able to start traditions with this chapter that will continue for years. Hopefully ZTA will choose me as well.

GMUBunny 08-23-2003 09:13 PM

We would be lucky to have you as a sister. Good luck!!!

ZLAM,
Meghan

Thank you so much, you are too kind! By the way, I see you like the Simpsons....best quote ever:

ZTAMich 08-23-2003 09:30 PM

Have a great time. Good luck with the colonization process. Great to see a Florida story on GreekChat!! I will also echo Megan's comment that we would be so lucky to have you as our sister!!

ZTA is a fantastic sorority! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

usfBROOKEusf 08-23-2003 10:19 PM

Thank you for all the support.

The only thing I am worried about is my age. I am ranked as a senior because I have taken summer school for the past two years but I still have two years left of school because I changed my major. Not to mention that rushing was not an option for me during my earlier years because of family finances. However, I personally worked a part time job and saved enough money up to join a sorority because it is something I've been wanting to do since sophomore year. I am trying to be realistic and not get my hopes up too high. On the other hand, my age could be a benefit to a new colony that does not have any older members. I can help the freshman out because I have been around the block. I can tell them where to get the best texbook prices and what professors to avoid, or what not to eat from the cafeteria, things like that.

What do you guys think about this situation? I appreciate any honest answers given.

AZ-AlphaXi 08-23-2003 10:25 PM

When a colony is being organized, the organizers usually love to have older women and upper classmen apply. The colony needs to start out with a diversity of classes as well as older members to look to for leadership. So I'd say that is in your favor. Good luck ... keep us updated, please!!

WhiteDaisy128 08-23-2003 10:29 PM

I was a colonizing member of my chapter too. You should not have a problem because of class rank, especially if you tell them that you have two more years. They want to fill the classes in and not have it totally bottom heavy. Seniors that will be graduating will even be considered - even though not too many. Take a senior, add one year, and you have an instant alumn for your chapter...

Being a part of a colony is a TON of work, but it's so worth it! The traditions you start will be carried on for the rest of the chapters future!!

usfBROOKEusf 08-23-2003 10:37 PM

So many girls that rushed the pre-existing sororities here told me that a colony is hard work, but I'm all for it. Since I won't get a full four years of collegiate membership, I want to be as involved as possible. I am going to run for an office if I am extended membership! So I am praying.

usfBROOKEusf 08-23-2003 10:39 PM

oh, and I will definitely keep you all updated on what's going on.

WhiteDaisy128 08-23-2003 10:47 PM

Hehe! You sound so much like me! It makes me giddy! Here was my colony rush thread:

http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showth...threadid=23956

You can see the general process (for DG at least)...even has a little ZTA spirit in it, my mom had breast cancer at the time (ZTA's philanthropy is the Breast Cancer Foundation).

usfBROOKEusf 08-23-2003 11:44 PM

We do have a lot in common. I am glad you got to share that experience with your mother. My own mother had a breast cancer scare a year ago. While she wasn't diagnosed, it scared the day lights out of me and made me think about a lot of things. (Which is probably another reason why I feel an affection for ZTA.) You and your mother are both extremely strong women who are lucky to have each other.

On a lighter note, I noticed that we are both Elementary Education majors! Thank you for the thread, it gave me a good morale boost. Sorry this strayed off topic!

mmcat 08-24-2003 12:08 AM

go for it....it sounds like a possible perfect fit.
just let them know....what we already know....how good a soul you are....
good good luck.

curlygirly 08-24-2003 02:22 AM

another colony in FL

Last year DZ colonized at UF.... You may want to read up a bit on their success story.

UF56 is one of the founding sisters, so you may want to talk to her about it all.

Jill1228 08-24-2003 02:49 AM

I feel ya! I had a BC scare in February 2000. I was lucky and was not diagnosed. The Komen Org has always been a soft spot for me and it will ALWAYS be a soft spot

Good luck in pursing ZETA

Good luck Brooke! I have a good feeling about you and ZTA. :) Call it instinct...but I just have a good feeling.

PS Mr Amycat went to USF, he has nothing but good things to say about it and the greek system there.

ShaedyKD 08-24-2003 02:17 PM

Brooke,
If you have any questions about ZTA at USF, please come into the Greek Life Office (Lower Level of the Marshall Center). We have fliers and contact information that we can give you. I'm on Panhellenice Executive Board and any of us would be happy to help!

Greek Love,
Shae

usfBROOKEusf 08-24-2003 03:58 PM

Thanks!!! I tried calling but no one was ever there. I will come in Monday afternoon before my first class.

ZetaLuvBunny 08-24-2003 07:01 PM

Good luck, Brooke! Yay for the new ZTA colony! :D

breathesgelatin 08-24-2003 09:37 PM

Keep us updated! :)

radioZTA 08-25-2003 03:36 PM

A friend of mine helped colonize a Zeta chapter in Virginia back in the '70's. She said it was hard work but also one of the most rewarding things she has ever done.

Best wishes to you!

UBCSororityGirl 08-25-2003 04:28 PM

Please post any and all thoughts on the process of rushing a colonizing chapter Brooke! We're having Kappa Alpha Theta colonize at UBC this fall (sooner than thought, so way exciting) and we want all the info we can get from your perspective!

And thanks for the link to your rush thread WhiteDaisy128, I know it wasn't meant for me specifically, but it felt like it was because it explained a lot to me!

Best of luck, just keep thinking positive thoughts and believing in yourself and what you will bring to the organization, that's how I got through one of the most stressful, fun, and rewarding times in my life.

AUDeltaGam 08-25-2003 05:32 PM

AU DG colony!

Here's my rush thread for when I went through colony recruitment for Delta Gamma! If you have any questions, let me know!

Yeah and Good Luck!

sherbertlemons 09-03-2003 11:58 PM

Good luck! I too am a charter member of my chapter. It's a lot of work, just like everyone else said, but really worth it.

I also have to mention that ZTA has a really strong presence in Florida and wonderful chapters across the state. (I go to UCF, btw.) You can't go wrong.

usfBROOKEusf 09-04-2003 10:54 AM

Thanks for all the support everybody! Here's the schedule, since I know you are curious.

September 15th- Interviews start (I think they go all week though)

September 16th- ZTA Open House 7 pm

September 17th- Stomp Out Breast Cancer Philanthropy Event 7 pm

September 18th- Pref. Ceremony (invit. only) 7pm

Unfortunately, I have class til 8 pm on the 16th, but ZTA said it would be ok if I miss the open house. Hopefully it won't hurt me.

UF56 09-04-2003 10:58 AM

It shouldnt....as CurlyGirly mentioned I was a founding sister at of DZ at UF....and we had a week long of events and I was only able to attend my interview and prefs. I do suggest you getting a rec, we had over 500 people interview for 154 spots and I was told it did factor in. On a side note being in a colony is great because you are starting it yourselves and get to make it the way you want.

usfBROOKEusf 09-04-2003 03:23 PM

RECS?....HEEEELP

Yeah, I was really really worried about that. Unfortunately, no one in my family was greek or know of anyone that was/is Greek. And even worse, there is no one I know from ZTA! I was kinda hoping reqs wouldn't be as important with the colony situation, but I think I'm wrong. What should I do!!?? (Getting distraught as I'm typing!!!!)

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-04-2003 03:49 PM

One of these lovely FL women can probably put you in touch with the Tampa Alumnae Panhellenic (I'm guessing there's one) who could probably find someone to write you a rec. Zeta may even have a local alumna you could connect with to get one. I'm not sure how their process works.......

usfBROOKEusf 09-15-2003 02:05 PM
