Bethany's Rush at University of West Georgia

I have been reading all the posts on GC for about 2 months now, but finally decided to do my own rush thread. Rush starts Wednesday August 27th and goes through Monday September 1st. I'm a sophmore and this is my second year rushing, I didn't get a bid last year. Rush at West Georgia is VERY, VERY competitive. Does anybody have any good advice so that I can hopefully find my home?

rainbowbrightCS 08-21-2003 11:52 PM

Oh I will be rushing at UWG next year. I was told that UWG is not that competive, but maybe I was misinformed. That are so far about 150s girl signed up for rush

Did you try to COB?

I can't wait to hear about your rush.

bethany@uwg 08-21-2003 11:57 PM

Yeah there are only 6 chaptes though and they will probably only pledge about 12-15 new members each.

honeychile 08-22-2003 12:40 AM

Good luck to both of y'all!

What chapters are at UWGA?

bethany@uwg 08-22-2003 12:42 AM

Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Xi Delta
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Delta
Phi Mu

MeLikey 08-22-2003 02:07 AM

Good luck! The best advice is to keep reading these boards-- I really wish I had found greekchat before I went through recruitment, it would have been so helpful!

carnation 08-22-2003 06:51 AM

Bethany, they won't know before rush how many they'll take. They'll decide quota probably before the last parties by taking the number of girls left and dividing it by 6. Quota in past years has been at least in the twenties.

mmcat 08-22-2003 08:06 AM

just relax, look well, and wear comfortable shoes.
and ditto everyone else's advice.
good good luck.

MoonStar17 08-22-2003 08:51 AM

YAY!!!

Good Luck!

Keep a smile on your face and be yourself....be relaxed, get a good nights sleep the night before and go in with an open mind, open to the possiblility of ALL the organizations....dont let others opinions sway you in any way :)

Keep us posted!!

Greek LOVE ;)

bethany@uwg 08-22-2003 09:44 AM

Thank yal so much for the support! I really appreciate it. I promise when rush starts I will keep yal posted.

bethany@uwg 08-22-2003 10:09 AM

Oh and how much impact do recs have on chapters? I got one from my cousin who is an alum to Phi Mu and one from a friend of the family who was a Kappa Delta.

AOII_LB93 08-22-2003 11:08 AM

Recs totally depend on the school that you are attending. At my school we barely ever get them, but I know there are schools where it's absolutely necessary.

Dolphingirl14 08-22-2003 12:47 PM

Good Luck! I'm sure you'll find the chapter that is right for you! I can't wait to hear about your rush experience! ;)

AGDLynn 08-22-2003 06:42 PM

Last year, quota was 24, I believe. As of last night (8/21), there were 141 or was it 144 pnms to sign up. Today is the deadline!!!

I can't answer the question about recs because each organization is different.

When I went through rush (yea it was still rush, lol) in the early 70's, all the parties were in the school rooms. Now all parties except pref are on the halls. I doubt I even saw the inside of the AGD hall until I accepted by bid, lol. All these many years later, the dorm is pretty much the same, lol..just better interior decorators in each sorority, lol!;) :D

I don't want to cause any trouble for anyone so whatever you post here, I won't share with anyone.

bethany@uwg 08-25-2003 07:40 PM

Hey AGDLynn, have you heard any final numbers of PNMs for recruitment?

AGDLynn 08-25-2003 07:48 PM

Sorry, no, but I would guess it would be a few more since, not matter the event, there are those that sign up at the last minute ;) Then, again, on the flip side, there are usually a few that signed up that decide not to show up at all, lol.

USChica06 08-25-2003 10:07 PM

Good Luck Bethany!!!!! (When I saw the title of this thread I thought honey started a rush thread for me and just didn't tell me about it.) I hope you find your home! Have a great time and keep us posted! And remember! You have the coolest name in the world!

GPhiBLtColonel 08-26-2003 01:47 AM

Good luck in rush and be sure to tell us all the JUICY details!!

I chatted with AGDLynn at our 3rd annual Alum Panhel dessert reception here in Peachtree City yesterday (Sunday) and I know she is getting ready to help her girls out! We had a Feng Shui presentation too - done by one of our ZTA members who's been a Feng shui consultant for nearly a decade -- so maybe Lynn is getting the AGD dorm all feng shui'ed - lol!

We have ALOT of our alum Panhel members from West GA. I think we did two recs for girls from Fayette & Coweta counties going to West GA. Bethany, where is your hometown, if that is not being too nosy....

:)

Buttonz 08-26-2003 02:17 AM

Good luck!

bethany1982 08-26-2003 03:38 AM

Good luck. I can't wait to read more.

bethany@uwg 08-26-2003 09:01 PM

My hometown is in Bowdon, GA about 10 minutes away from campus. Orientation is tomorrow night and I'm getting a bit nervous, but I've been going to the tanning bed religiously and got my french manicure and pedicure this afternoon.

KappaKittyCat 08-26-2003 09:47 PM

<hijack>

WTF is a French pedicure? They don't do that freaky white tip thing to your toes, too, do they?

That's exactly what they are. French pedicures are very nice. I got one recently (my first!), and it just looked so good that I think I'll only get those now. Red just doesn't look as nice anymore. But they are common enough in the Northeast, and I assumed they had them everywhere. Maybe it's an east coast thing???

I think they look great and they're very popular here in Missouri! :D

KappaKittyCat 08-26-2003 09:55 PM

For all I know they do have them here. Sorry, I'm kind of a purist. I don't even wear makeup.

Please let me keep my Sorority Girl Card! :p

bethany@uwg 08-26-2003 10:04 PM

The good thing about a french pedicure is that they look classy and they match everything.

polarpi 08-26-2003 10:22 PM

Bethany,
Good luck with your recruitment. We would all be proud to have you as a fellow sorority woman, whether you are a sorority sister or a Greek woman sister :)

Chris

bethany@uwg 08-28-2003 06:06 PM

Well last night was orientation and I had a great time. My recruitment counselor is so sweet. Tonight is Round 1 open parties, but I don't know who I will go to until I get there. Please be thinking about me and wish me good luck because I am soooooooooo nervous!

Dolphingirl14 08-28-2003 06:08 PM

Good luck Bethany! I'll cross my fingers for you! I'm sure you'll have a great time. Don't be too nervous! ;)

bethany@uwg 08-29-2003 09:30 AM

OK so Iwent to my first round of parties last night and had a great time. I'm going to call the houses by colors.

Red=I got to talk to about 4 different girls at this party. They were all really nice and we had a lot to talk about, but something just didn't feel right.

Yellow=I talked to one girl the whole time and we had a blast. She gave me a lot of information and we talked the whole time, never a silent moment. I could see myself here.

White=Me and this girl totally clicked. We were both the same, just easy going and like to have fun. The whole time she kept telling me how easy I was to talk to. I really loved it here. This is by far my first choice so far.

Tonight I go to Pink, Blue, and Green. Wish me luck! I feel so good about rush. now!!!!!!

rainbowbrightCS 08-29-2003 10:03 AM

wow, sunds like you had a great night. I hope you find your home this year. I can't wait to find out how tonight goes.

Best of luck

Chris
