Just got to work (early = overtime :D) and I heard thanks to Knowledge on Russ Parr that $1 million worth of marijuana was delivered to Universal Records in the past week. Forget which day. $1 MILLION!!?!?!?

They also reported what ace celeb dish reporter Afrochic uncovered earlier this week regarding Scottie Pippen who Ideal calls Alice the Goon. . .I got to thinking, WHY NOW?!!!?!?! Whitewater was about what 5 years ago. Scottie -- does he even still play?!?! All you called to ask for was $500?!!?!? You own salons NOW. When did your first salon open??!?! You have VIDEOS and you have never ever ever showed them to anyone?!?!?!?

(Aug. 21, 2003) *Disney's "That's So Raven" star, Raven as in Raven Symone, has beat out Ashanti for the lead role in the Warner Brothers remake of "Sparkle."

The 17-year-old actress/singer will walk in big shoes when she plays the youngest sister in the the new version of the 1976 drama about a Supremes-like group of singing sisters. The role was originally played by Irene Cara.

For those that remember, the singing siblings initially encounter success, but that's when the drama began. And for that reason alone, only a strong actress/actress would qualify. Sorry Ashanti. Not this time.

The new version will keep the Curtis Mayfield penned songs from the original and Raven, who has just completed an album for Disney, will do her own singing in the film.

On another note, Michael Elliot, from "Like Mike," has been brought in to rewrite the script written by E. Lynn Harris

Yup, I heard that this morning as well. Wendy Williams reported here on my local radio station.

Scottie -- does he even still play?!?!

Yup, he sure does, he just went back to the Chicago Bulls after paying for the Portland Trailblazers for the last few years.

glad raven beat out ashanti. i can't stand that broad and i don't think she would have done the role justice.

i like raven. she is funny and a pretty decent actress. i am guilty of watching the disney channel (dropping my head in shame). i like "that's so raven" and i liked that movie "the cheetah girls"...i think raven will do a great job, and she has a decent voice.

wonder who will play "sista"?

The 17-year-old actress/singer...

i KNOW raven isn't that young! I think she is like 19, 20 - maybe even 21. I'm trying to think back to how old i was during the cosby years. It seems like "olivia" was but a few years younger than i was (i'll be 25 next week).

Soror don't feel bad. I too love the Disney Channel . I am a bit time kid at heart. I just saw the Cheetah Girls the other night and though it was full on cheesey, it was a cute movie. I even think the girls from 3LW were ok.

Cop on 'Queer Eye' in Trouble With Boss

Not sure if this should go here cuz it's "news" or the thread it self? So Mods move if you have to :D

NEW YORK (AP) - Chalk up another convert for the Fab Five.

A Port Authority police officer, who went on television for a makeover courtesy of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," is in no trouble with his bosses.

"Our police superintendent watched the show and enjoyed it thoroughly," Pasquale DiFulco, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said on Thursday.

Officer John Verdi, 29, went on the Bravo network show in hopes of changing his image with the help of the show's five gay consultants. While touring his Staten Island apartment, style gurus Thom Filicia and Carson Kressley tried on Verdi's uniform shirt.

The Daily News reported Thursday that Port Authority officials said Verdi didn't get clearance to say he was a police officer on television, and that he shouldn't have let a civilian wear his uniform.

But DiFulco said it's OK with the Port Authority for its cops to be stylish when it's off the clock. "The officer did this on his own time. We have no issue with this."

On the show, the style team took Verdi to have a pedicure, gave his pale feet a spray tan and taught him how to cook a quiche for his vegetarian girlfriend.

"It was good entertainment," Port Authority Police Benevolent Association President Gus Danese told the News. "What he did, he did on his own time. He didn't portray the Port Authority in a bad light. It was harmless."

The episode is scheduled to be re-aired on NBC on Thursday at 10 p.m.

Girl I don't really get into Disney but I like "Thats's So Raven" its actually a pretty good show on Saturdays. There are times I am like that isn't quite the reaction I would expect from you typical AA family .;) ;) , but I still like the show!
It's funny what yall said about Ashanti. I asked my class today who was overrated? They were like Ashanti she can't dance or sing. God forbid they ever see those pictures of her.

I love "That's So Raven!" I do think that she tends to overact sometimes, though....

Breaking news....

As just reported on the Atlanta local news, the King of R&B himself, Mr. Bobby Brown is in jail again. He was picked up in a Alpharetta (a northern suburb where he and Whit-less have a house) resturant for parole voilations in DeKalb County.

Poor Booby....I mean Bobby...

eta:
An Alpharetta police office was just interviewed and he said Bobby did not seem suprised. Turns out that the management in the resturant turned them in. They were having a "cozy dinner" and the manger called the po-lice and said "Hey, Ain't ch-all lookin' for Bobby Brown? Well he's here!!" (Dang, how cold can you be? Seems like it was a nice resturant, wonder if they paid the bill? Remind me never to go there if I have outstanding warrents! LOL) Anyway, said officer mentioned that while Bobby was calm Whitney "verbally indicated her displeasure with the matter." and that "she was quite vocal." It was funny the way he was discribing it. And the cop was a brother too, which made it funnier

FREE BOBBY BROWN!! FREE BOBBY BROWN!! NO JUSTICE! NO PEACE!!

OF course they replayed the infamous "It wasn't really that much marijauna. It was like a joint or something!" statement that Bobby made when he got out of jail in DeKalb County the LAST time! This is really cracking me up.....

Simpson: Cash Helped Murder Acquittal
Mon Aug 25, 8:30 AM ET

LOS ANGELES - O.J. Simpson (news) says that without the money to pay for a "dream team" of lawyers, he would not have been acquitted of murder charges.

In an interview with Playboy magazine nine years after his trial, Simpson repeatedly vowed he was innocent of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman.

"I didn't commit the crime. That is why I got off," he said. "I feel in my heart that I got off because I was innocent. But I don't know if I could have proven my innocence if I didn't have the money. And that's a shame. Yes, it is a shame that in this country it costs so much to get good representation."

In the wide-ranging interview published in the current issue of the magazine, Simpson also disclosed that after his acquittal he smoked marijuana in order to get to sleep.

"My drug of choice now is Vioxx," said Simpson, who suffers from arthritis. "When I got out of jail, I kind of appreciated pot more than I ever had in my life."

Simpson was acquitted of murder charges in the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife and Goldman. A civil jury later held Simpson liable for the killings and ordered him to pay the victims' survivors $33.5 million.

What this article fails to mention is a quote in the interview about Ohhhjjj and women. He said that it's like he's emanating Spanish fly because so many women are attracted to him. Gag me.

Wendy Williams and Star Jones

I was listening to Wendy Williams yesterday and she said that Star Jones will be having gastric bypass surgery. Has anyone else heard this?

I'm not sure how reputable this site is, but it did have more information.

Star Jones to Follow Al Roker to Operating Room

http://www.newyorkish.com/051903/starjones.jpg

Star Jones, the TV personality and spokeswoman for Payless shoes, will meet with doctors at Lenox Hill this week to discuss gastric bypass surgery, an operation that attracted widespread attention after Al Roker underwent the procedure last year. "Yes, it's a serious medical procedure," said Jones, "but at 350 pounds, it's something I'm willing to consider." Jones said she would be meeting with Dr. Marina Kurian, an obesity expert at Lenox Hill who operated on Roker. "Star is morbidly obese and other weight-loss techniques have clearly not worked," said Dr. Kurian. "It's time to consider a more aggressive course of action," she explained. Although Jones has said in the past that she is comfortable with her weight, she confirmed that executives at Payless have expressed concern about her ballooning figure. "Her look is becoming increasingly unappealing," said John Haugh, Chief Marketing Officer for Payless when asked whether Payless intended to keep Jones on board as the company's spokesperson. "Her weight is troubling and, to make matters worse, we know for a fact that she hasn't been wearing Payless shoes to any of her public appearances," Haugh said. But it's Jones' weight that seems to be of the most concern. "It's getting to the point where we're having trouble filming commercials with Star and getting her entire body in the frame," Haugh confessed. "The production company thinks a new wide-angle lens might help, but we think Star should bear some responsibility for losing weight," he said.

Maybe it's just me...but that whole 'confession' of John Haugh sounds like a HOAX! Why would he say something like that? Wide angle lens? This doesn't sound too credible to me. "We know for a fact that she hasn't been wearing Payless shoes...." Smells like a fresh pot of BULLISHT!!

maybe she is indeed having the procedure done but i don't believe this article is legit, esp. those quotes from john haugh. if he really made those statements and ms. jones or any of those people read them, it wouldn't be her weight they would need to worry about.

MJ is having a party!

Jacko Opens Neverland
Aug 26, 2:47 PM EST

Associated Press

Like a real-life Willy Wonka, pop star Michael Jackson has announced plans to temporarily open his carnival-style Neverland Ranch estate to 500 guests.

The invitation-only event, set for Sept. 13, is a one-time-only gathering, complete with dinner, magicians, games and a tractor-trailer full of stuffed animals, according to Jackson publicist Stuart Backerman.

Tickets for two people cost $5,000, with $1,000 from each sale being divided among three charities, he added. Jackson will keep the rest — Backerman said it would pay for the costs of the party.

Jackson's Neverland Ranch, located in Santa Barbara County, includes an amusement park with bumper cars, a merry-go-round and Ferris wheel.

Guests would also receive a "goodie bag" worth about $1,000 and an original painting by Brazilian artist Romero Britto.

Backerman said 250 tickets will go on sale, potentially worth $1.25 million. The maximum $250,000 charitable donation will be split between the Make-A-Wish Foundation for sick children; Oneness, dedicated to erasing racism through art and music; and E Ai Como E Que Fica, a Rio de Janeiro group that provides food, clothing and medical care to impoverished children.

Jackson's former financial advisers settled a lawsuit against him in June that suggested he was overburdened with debt and near bankruptcy. That has led to speculation that the Neverland property, recently assessed at $12.3 million, would be placed on the market.

4-1-1 ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 25, 2003

Get ready for a shrinking star! Star Jones is ready to lose weight. Star is one of the popular co-hosts of the ABC Show The View and she is going to get gastric bypass surgery. This is the popular weight loss surgery that helped Today Show “Weather Guy” Al Roker and singer Carnie Wilson lose over a 100 pounds each. Barbara Walters has been trying to get Star to lose weight for years and now that Star is going to do it, Barbara is going to feature her in an ABC Special.

Who needs Jennifer Lopez when you can have three new “divas?” Benny Medina, the man who is credited with making Jennifer a star, was fired over the summer by J-Lo and now he has moved on to work his magic on singers Brandy, Mya and Mariah Carey. All three women want to reinvent themselves. This should be interesting with Mariah Carey because she can’t stand Jennifer Lopez and she has always envied her career. As for Brandy and Mya, Mya is boring, who cares? Brandy should be interesting now that she has dumped her husband. She is ready to spread her wings. Maybe that’s why she is dating singer Tyreese.

Singer Peabo Bryson owes the “tax man.” Last week was very embarrassing for the 52-year-old singer. Peabo owes the IRS $1.2 million and when he failed to pay them, they showed up at his Atlanta mansion and took all the belongings out. Peabo was standing outside in his pajamas and there was nothing he could do.

Prince is up to his old antics. At a recent show in California, Prince refused to speak or sing. Occasionally he would play the piano and the guitar, but he basically stayed on the side of the stage watching the band play. Needless to say, the crowd was not pleased and they started booing. Prince just flashed a peace sign and retreated to the VIP area of the club

Michael Jackson is mad at the makers of Scary Movie three. Michael is threatening to sue the makers of the film if the Michael Jackson look a like that is in the film uses a child sex joke.

Mary J Blige’s New CD love & Life comes out next Tuesday and Mary has been opening up about her life. Mary says she is on a new path and she is in charge of her career. Mary says she was robbed by her former management. She also said a lot of her friends preferred he drunk Mary, the drugged Mary, the Mary who didn’t know the Lord. Mary says her fiance made her give up drinking. Mary is looking to get married next year.

Tavis Smily is returning to TV. Starting in January Tavis will be hosting a late night show on PBS. The show will be a blend of news and pop culture.

Bobby Brown to Spend 9 More Days in Jail

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Bobby Brown will serve nine more days in jail after being arrested for allegedly violating his probation from an earlier drunken driving conviction, a judge ruled on Wednesday.

The jail time will be followed by 60 days of house arrest, DeKalb County State Court Judge Wayne Purdom decided.

During the hearing, the singer told the judge: "I apologize for being back in your court and taking your time. I have no reason, I am a human being."

Brown, 33, was ordered to undergo another drug assessment and sentenced to a total of 14 days in the DeKalb County Jail. But the judge credited Brown for the five days he's already spent behind bars since his arrest Friday.

His wife, Whitney Houston, arrived halfway through the hearing and sat two rows behind Brown, answering a cell phone call during defense attorney Maurice Bennett's presentation. Afterward, the Grammy-winning singer and actress told reporters that she told Brown to "stay strong, baby."

Brown, a former member of New Edition whose solo hits include "My Prerogative," was arrested in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta last week at a seafood restaurant, where he was dining with his wife.

Although authorities said Houston angrily confronted police during her husband's arrest, she appeared calm in court Wednesday, hugging and kissing him to show support.

Authorities say Brown was arrested because he failed to show up for a court appearance.

Brown's lawyers said he failed to check in with a probation officer because he was suffering from an elbow injury in July that kept him bedridden and was mourning the loss of seven family members.

They contended that he had complied with a court order and completed 80 hours of community service in California. But the judge said Brown will get credit for only 40 hours because the order specified the service was to be done in Georgia.

Prosecutors called Brown a repeat offender and recommended more jail time for the Alpharetta resident. In January, Brown, 33, was sentenced to eight days in jail and ordered not to drive for a year after pleading guilty to a 1996 drunken driving charge in DeKalb County.

Last November, Brown was arrested in Atlanta on charges of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance. He also did a 26-day stint in a Florida jail in 2000 for a previous probation violation.

After Wednesday's hearing, Houston told reporters that she was pleased with the judge's decision.

During the hearing, the singer told the judge: "I apologize for being back in your court and taking your time. I have no reason, I am a human being."

Bobby is one of the dumbest people in this world:
An elbow injury kept him bedridden - OH HAYLE NAW!!
Loss of seven family members???  I wonder if the judge asked to see the obituaries or any medical records supporting his elbow claim?? If I were the judge, I would definitely ask for some documentation.

Whitless Houston: Answering the cell phone while your husband's attorney is making a presentation before the Court is RUDE!!! You said that you were pleased with the judge's decision - like you and your husband had a frigging choice!!! Don't tell your husband to stay strong, tell him to stay the hell out of trouble and off that isht y'all smoking!!

It was reported that he did this too at the Essence Fest. The Essence people had a piano/synthesizer backstage in hopes that he would perform...he didn't. Maybe Prince has social anxiety disorder?
