Crazyocutie's real rush... Finally
Yesterday was greek forum. That was really neat and overwhelming. There were soo many girls there. They were all pretty overwhelimed. I met with my Rho Gamma. Her name is Stacy and she seems really nice. I start all of the real rush activities today. I have to meet up with my RG at 8:30 in the morning in front of the Pi Phi house. I will update again a little bit after six tonight. I don't want to promise anything though because I haven't even finished unpacking. EEK!

Can't wait to hear the story and see the invites! :D

Do all of the sororities have houses? It looks like from their addresses that some do and some don't
|
Not all have houses. There are 10 sororities and 4 are houseless (DG, Kappa, Theta, ChiO). They're supposed to be building an extension onto our sorority row within the next couple of years to accomodate the houseless fraternities and sororities on our campus. In the meantime, the houseless sororities borrow some of the fraternity houses during rush.
|
Do the houseless sororities still get to live together in the dorms? Why are some houseless? Just curious. Thanks :D
|
Unfortunately, UCF has a huge housing problem. The campus has experienced so much growth and it's trying to compensate for the new freshman classes that are coming in. UCF has been building new dorms but they're not for sororities.
UCF's campus is completely planned out already...it's just a matter of building everything. Greek Park was built very small and only a few fraternities and sororities have houses (the majority don't have a house). The last property on Greek Park was bought in the early 90's by Kappa Sig. Greek Park 2 is in the plans but they've had a lot of setbacks in getting it built. It's been a rollercoaster ride trying to get it built (I'm sure adpiucf would agree!). UCF has a ton of wetlands and nature preserves. Our UCF environmental club has tried to block every Greek Park 2 proposal from going through. Now, I'm all for the environment and stuff but Florida is one big, swampy wetland. Why do they want to save this one? The only chapters to have houses are ZTA, ADPi, KD, AZD, PiPhi, Tri-Delta, Kappa Sig, SAE, Pike, Sigma Chi, Sig Ep, and ATO. This leaves Kappa, Theta, ChiO, DG, Sigma Nu, Lambda Chi, FIJI, Phi Delt, DTD, Pi Kapp, TKE, Delta Upsilon, AEPi, Beta, Lambda Theta Phi, Lambda Sigma Upsilon, Sigma Lambda Beta, and the countless NPHC and multi-cultural greek chapters still unhoused. It's a huge problem and it effects rush greatly. Also, many sororities do not want to colonize on our campus if they're not assured a house within a reasonable amount of time. Big problems because we are need of more sororities. We have 10 and we still have pledge classes that range from 65-71 girls and chapters that are at 190 sisters!!!! |
Good luck, crazyocutie!! I hope you have a wonderful time today and all week.:)

i heard...
I heard that Greek Park 2 hasn't been built yet b/c a species of endangered turtles live there and they cannot be displaced.
Just what I heard. C |
Rumor has it that there was 1 turtle left but he hasn't been seen in years. I dunno. Maybe sherbertlemons or adpiucf know more.
|
Oh the Turtles!
For YEARS, it was rumored that an endangered species of turtle had made its home across the street from ATO, Sig Ep and Sigma Chi-- the very land where the Office Of Greek Affairs had proposed Greek Park expansion.
THERE ARE NO TURTLES!!!! As ZTAngel said, UCF faces a very unique challenge-- it is growing at an astonishing rate. We nicknamed UCF "Under Construction Forever" due to rising popularity, prestige and student population at the university. UCF is a commuter school no more. I was very proud to attend UCF during the time when buildings, housing, parking garages and even our student union grew up around me, practically overnight. Student housing is in such demand, in fact, that the university purchased two off-campus apartment complexes (with multiple phases and buildings!) just to keep up. I think constructing new sorority and fraternity houses would help ease the student housing shortage, but it still needs to be determined "where" Greek Park 2 will be. Currently, off campus, in an area affectionately referred to as "the ghetto," are several fraternity houses. The guys lease a building of apartments and members reside there, and have their parties, etc., from these "Quad" apartments. IE: Lambda Chi, DTD, Pi Kapp, etc. Having a house in the ghetto is better than none at all, to be sure, but it is still much more of a status symbol to have on-campus housing. The sororities without houses on campus do not have houses here, but often, off-campus apartment complexes will set up a deal to have an entire bldg of a sorority there. Not all of the members live there (UCF sororities average just under 200 members and have enormous new member classes!), but it's a fun set-up nontheless, and b/c the chapters with houses on campus can't house everyone, even those sororoties will set up an apartment block at nearby apartment complexes. Those creative Greeks! So, to summarize, no TURTLES, no Greek Park 2, at least not for a while. |
crazyocutie,
Can't wait to hear more about UCF recruitment!!! Today was "Spirit Day" hope it was tons of fun. Good luck honey! violets |

Ok.. so here goes my story. The internet was down a little whole ago so I am just now getting the chance to get back on. All of the chapters were awesome. It was soo much fun to learn their songs, have our RG's bang on the door, and watch the doors fly open to lots of smiling faces. Today I visited all 10 houses. Here goes a play by play.
The first house I went to was Rose. They were so nice. I was a little nervous because I didn't know what was going to happen. It was really neat how they were all there dancing, and just came and grabbed one of us and chatted. I could really see myself here. The next house was Carnation. Wow, these girls were beautiful. The girl I talked to was really super nice and talked a lot. We were talking about housing a lot. We got to go on a house tour which was pretty neat. All of these sisters seemed to really have bonded together. It would be a great place to be part of. I think that it was one of the more popular chapters there. A lot of people wanted to go back. Then we made our way over to the Tulip. These girls were nice. I didn't get to talk much to the girl I was paired with because I was paired with another girl. I think that this girl saw that because she tried many times to get the girl to shut up so that I could talk. After that, we went to Lily. Lily was soo amazing. These girls made me feel at home. Time seemed to fly by while I was there. That is a good thing. The last house before break was Sunflower. Man o man, these girls were amazingly beautiful. We also got a mini-house tour here. The girl I got paired with was nice, but I wasn't feeling the connection. We had a little lunch session where I met up with my friend and saw how eachothers day was going. After break, we went to Daisy. These girls were so kind. They had the cutest little opening song. Too cute. Looking forward to going back again. The next house was Pansy. It was extremely loud in this place. I could hardly hear the girl that was rushing me. Later, I got paired with another girl and we talked about reality Tv. So much fun! Can't wait to return. Then there was Daffodil. This was another house where I was paired up with one rusher and another PNM. This time I think I had the upper hand and I definitely let the other girl talk. Then I got to talking majors with one of the other rushers. I really could see myself here. Then we have Geranium. I have to say, coming into this house, I had heard all of the stereotypes about them. I actually really loved them though. They were soo nice. I'm glad that I gave them a chance. Last was Hibiscus. I had some more good convo with them also. The girls here are nice. Still out on whether or not this is the one for me. Now, I go back to 7 parties tomorrow. I am not expecting to be going to 7 though. More like 3. But you never know. :) |
Crazy-O,
ZTAngel and I are so excited you had a great time today! We're busy PM'ing each other with our own "Match Crazyocutie's flowers with UCF sororities!" LOL! Are all of the door songs stuck in your head? When I was in school, my friends and I used to go jogging around the campus, and we would sing all of them! :) |
YAAY Im so excited for you! Sounds like you had a good time! I cant wait to hear how the next round goes :)
Nichole |
I'm so excited for you crazyocutie! :D Your descriptions were so good, and I love the flower theme. :) My fingers are crossed for you!!

Today was philantrophy day at all of the sororities. It was a lot of fun to learn about all of the sororities charities. The girls were great again. I only got invited back to 6, but that is still really good. Ok.. here is today's happenings.
The first house I went to was Sunflower. They were really nice and I like their cause. I got to talk to 3 girls. They were all super nice and chatty. I don't know if I see myself here though. I actually cut them yesterday (only because I had no clue what to do.. they were all so great). I was surprised when I saw them on my schedule because they are one of the more popular ones. The verdict is still out though. Next I went to Daisy. I really liked these girls. They were all really nice. I met 2 girls here. They had the cutest little craft. It was kinda hard to make though. It was fun talking to them. I also got to see their membership fees.. and they are not as bad as I thought.. YAY! After that, I went to Tulip. I cut these girls yesterday and I am soo glad that I got to go back. They were extremely nice. I had one of the same girls that I had yesterday.. which was good.. cause this is the house where she noticed that the other girl that was with me was talking over me. She and I talked for a good amount of time. Then I talked to another girl and she was super sweet too. Then I met the coolest girl. We talked about our grandparents. Too cute. I am definitely wanting to go back tomorrow. Then I walked over to Daffodil. These are nice girls. I got to talk to the VP. I didn't know until she told me... haha. Then I made their little craft.. but didn't actually finish. Oh well. I hope that I can go back tomorrow. Next was Rose. This was one of my favorites from yesterday. They were so incredibly nice again. I loved their idea for a craft. Very original. I saw one of the girls that I talked to yesterday.. having her said hi to me made me feel really good. I want to go back tomorrow also. Then I had a break. We went to one of the frat houses. That was kind of a new experience. I'll just leave it at that. The last one that I went to was Hibiscus. I loved this place. We talked about reality TV again. I love that topic.. hehe. They also have one of the most known philantrophy events. I want to go back here again tomorrow also. So I got cut from 4 houses.. but now that I look back on it.. I think that is how it should have been. I love the houses that I went to. The houses that I got cut from.. in case you forget were Carnation, Lily, Pansy and Geranium. I will reveal which one was which on Sunday.. hehe. |
can you tell us which ones you went back to...in any order of course!!! Good luck with rush...you are doing great! :)

crazyocutie: What a wonderful philanthropy day you had! Thank you so much for sharing all the details. I am sooo sorry for not updating sooner. I went out to dinner with my friend. Today I got invited back to 4 parties. Now, I will just jump right into it.
My first house was Rose. They are definitely my favorite. I think that they have been from day 1. I really really want to go back. I watched their video.. and it made me want to cry. I actually had to hold it back. I could really see myself hanging out with these girls forever. The girl I talked to yesterday came over and said hi. That really really makes me feel comfy with the place. The next house that I went to was Hibiscus. The girls that I talked to today were soo hilarious. I could have a good time with them. I wished that we would stop going in 2's though. It really is hard to get to know the person. Their video was also very good. Then I went to Daffodil. I really like these girls' theme. It was soo cute. Whoever decorated, was a genius. I had great conversation with these girls. They are definitely tied for my number 2 choice. The last house that I went to was Tulip. I really love these girls. I almost cried in their video too. It was soo well done. The girls I talked to were great. I didn't want to leave. They are at number 2 also. So in conclusion, I really could be at any of these houses. If on bid day I don't get my number one choice, I have no problem in taking the others. They are all great girls. To recap.. I got cut from Daisy and Sunflower yesterday. I am happy with the houses I have though. :) |
I hope you get your rose. Every lady deserved flowers, even better if they are roses.
Your bid day starts at 1pm so we should know by Sunday? I can't wait to find out who is who Best of Luck Chris |
WOW!!! You're really a trooper, actually having FOUR different houses where you could be happy! How can you go wrong? I hope you get your Rose, but I'm so happy for your beautiful and gracious attitude!
|
I wish you a beautiful bouquet! It's so much fun trying to guess, and it's so much harder when you're a dinosaur like me and you've been out of school for awhile.
Have a wonderful time! |
