Name Your Game

Ok, in the English Premier League thread, DeltaSigStan made the following comment:

Phew, I'm glad I became a Red Devil fan two years before they won the Treble, otherwise I'd never hear the end of it.

BTW, I only say this because I am a Avalanche, Laker and Patriot fan, and at one point, all three teams held the major championship of their league. BUT I LIKED THEM BEFORE THEN!!!!

That post got me to thinking. It bothers me how people will jump on the bandwagon when a team starts to do well. Or, similarly, it also bothers me when haters accuse long-time fans of jumping on the bandwagon when they have been supporters all along.

So, since Stan is listing, lets all share as well. The good, the bad and the ugly....list all of your favorite teams good or not! :)

Kelly/Navane supports:

American Football:

* San Diego Chargers
* Any team which plays against the Raiders (heh).
* USC Trojans

Baseball:

*San Diego Padres
*Anaheim Angels (I lived in Long Beach for 7 years. There was NO WAY I was going to root for the Dodgers. Since I thought it would be nice to also support a more "local" team, I liked the Angels. I was so happy for them when they won the Series!)

Rubgy:

* England National Team
* Any local English team in the West Country! (esp. Bristol, Bath and Glos. - it's all good!)
* I always support England, but I do think the All Blacks are pretty cool.

English Football:

* Liverpool FC
* Bristol City FC
* Wimbledon AFC (no, not Milton Keynes!)

MLS Soccer:

* LA Galaxy

World Cup Football:

* USA National Team
* England National Team
* Poland National Team
* USA Women's National Team

Noticibly absent are any listings for basketball and hockey - I don't care for either sport. At my house, the others support the Lakers for basketball and the San Diego Gulls for hockey. Though, I only watch if I'm forced to or if it's a championship match.

Your turn!

.....Kelly :)

moe.ron 08-18-2003 09:06 AM

American Football:
New York Giants

Baseball:
New York Yankees (I was there during the Balboni era)

Rugby:
Either Springbok or All Blacks
Super 12 - Stormers
Provincial South Africa - Western Cape
Collegiate - Stellenbosch Maties (supposedly the largest rugby club in the world with over 12,000 members)

English Football:
Arsenal

Spanish Football:
Barcelona

Dutch Football:
Feyenoord

Hockey:
New York Rangers

Basketball:
New York Knicks

National Football Team:
French
South Africa
Indonesia

AOIIalum 08-18-2003 09:13 AM

My teams

American Football:

University of Kentucky Wildcats!
Any team that plays against Louisville
Indiana Hoosiers
Cincinnati Bengals
Cleveland Browns (but that allegiance goes with Tim Couch)

American Basketball:

UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY WILDCATS!
Again, any team that plays against Louisville
Boston Celtics

NHL Hockey:

Columbus Blue Jackets
Pittsburgh Penguins (when not playing the Jackets)

MLS Soccer:

Columbus Crew

KSigkid 08-18-2003 10:04 AM

BASEBALL: Yankees (like Arya, I was there during the Steve Balboni, Andy Hawkins era. I've been a fan from the bad times to the good, Don Mattingly is still my favorite all-time athlete, and anyone who thinks I'm a bandwagon-jumper doesn't know what they're talking about)

FOOTBALL: Giants. I became a fan during the LT and Phil Simms years, and have stuck with them, through bad and good.

COLLEGE SPORTS: UConn. I'm a HUGE UConn basketball fan (since the Cliff Robinson days), and follow their other teams too, even if I'm a Boston U. alum.

BASKETBALL: Knicks fan, even if they suck now.

HOCKEY: Loved the Whalers...now I follow a few teams, but never the way I followed the Whale.

Collin

Re: Name Your Game

American Football:

* Nebraska Cornhuskers
* Kansas City Cheifs (but I've stopped following the NFL so closely sinc e getting to college)

Baseball:

*Nebraska Cornhuskers (gotta support the ole' U)
*Kansas City Royals, but I'll be honest the only reason I'm still paying attention is because they're in first place. I dont' think this is bandwagonish b/c I'll watch during April, and usually by that point they are out of it. Watch out for next year though too.
*Whoever is playing the Colorado Buffalos :mad:

English Football:

* Arsenal but I haven't payed close attention for a couple years.

MLS Soccer:

* Kansas City Wizards

World Cup Football:

* USA National Team
* Croatian National Team
* USA Youth National Teams during Youth World Cups...how about them U-17's right now???

College Basketball
*Anyone who's playing Kansas, unless it's UT or Colorado

I can't stand the NBA, and I only pay attention to the NHL in the playoffs, and I'll usually pick a team at the beginning to root for since that makes it more fun. This past season it was Ottawa, and I think I may make them my semi-permanent favorite team.

LeslieAGD 08-18-2003 11:45 AM

The only team/sport to which I am completely loyal is Detroit Red Wings Hockey. I have been following them since '93...way before they won their three Stanley Cups.

valkyrie 08-18-2003 01:23 PM

I'm a Chicago Bears fan, and I will be no matter where in this world I live.

I'm also a Lakers and Bulls fan, and for college sports, University of Iowa.

*Whoever is playing the Colorado Buffalos :mad:

must be pretty bored during baseball season, considering that CU doesn't play Big XII baseball.

COLLEGE SPORTS

TEXAS A&M
Duke, yeah, yeah, i'm a bit of a bandwagon guy, but i'm mostly a Coach K fan. From all that i've read and heard about the guy, i'm a huge supporter. It works out well that A&M's BB team sucks and i can root for someone in the NCAA tourney every year.

NFL
Denver Broncos. I grew up in Denver with the team in the late 80's going to the Super Bowl 3 times and getting pounded 3 times. If you want to test my Bronco knowledge, i can name the reciever that caught the TD pass from Elway on "The Drive" can you?

Houston Texans. Mostly cuz they're a South Texas team, and their first year they had a lot of Ags on the roster. But i figure it's ok, cuz if they suck, its just cuz they're new.

NBA
GO SPURS GO!!!
(as if y'all didn't know) Been a fan since we moved to the Alamo city in '94.

MLB
not a huge baseball fan, but i grew up in Denver before the Rockies and was always a Mets fan(my dad's family is from NY) and even made it to Shea a couple times.

Since moving to Texas i've adopted the Astros as my new team.

that's about it. I've been fortunate, most of my teams have won championships. Now with Coach Fran i think A&M's on it's way, and i'm praying that the Astros can get their pitching and hitting together for the playoffs.

Kitso
KS 361 wins Coach Fran is gonna have at A&M over the course of his contract :p
